Summary: A year after Gethsemane, and Scully's in a bar when a tall man
drops by to keep her company :)

Author's Note: I know this is corny and all that, but 1) it's based on
a sappy country song and 2) I'm just having a little fun with a
post-Gethsemane situation. Send all feedback to
ashke@unforgettable.com... and thanks to Rina and Nat for putting up
with me telling this crazy thing...

One Year After The Events of Gethsemane
A Bar in Alexandria, VA
4:20 pm.

Dana Scully was sitting in the bar, having a whisky. A year had passed
since she had discovered her partner, Fox Mulder dead of a gunshot wound
to his head. She sighed and pressed her forehead against the cool
glass. Sometimes it was just too much to take, being in Quantico. Not
only did she miss her partner with the other half of her soul, but being
back in Quantico was *boring.*

Doing autopsies and teaching students who are where she once stood was
unbelievably dull when she compared it to her four years in the
X-files. She was still living with the cancer she had been diagnosed
with so long ago, and she was only getting worse. That's what her
doctors told her, anyway. She sighed again as the door opened and a
tall man walked into the bar.

She felt somebody watching her, and she turned around with a gasp.
<It's... no, it can't be...> He gave her a wry smile, and took the seat
across from her. She smiled and said, "I don't recall seeing you around
here; you must be new here."

He shrugged, and spoke while looking at her face like he was a man in a
desert and she was water, "I'm just passing through, but from the looks
of you, I might be settling down."

"You know, I had a love once, but he -- he left me a long time ago."

"I bet it broke your heart..." He sighed, "You know, I had a love once,
too, but I acted like a fool, and I'd give anything to be back in her
arms again."

He smiled at her, and asked, "Why don't we take this matter somewhere
else and get to know this feeling that's so strong?"

She grinned back at him. She had loved him for a long time, but had
never had the chance to tell him; now was her chance. "The invitation's
open, because you look like just what I've been waiting on."

"Why don't we take this matter somewhere else? "

"Lead on." She grinned at him.

He rose from the table, and tossed some bills down before pulling her up
into his arms. "Damn, Scully, it's about killed me to be away from you."

"A necessary evil." She said matter-of-factly.

"I love you, Scully."

"I love you, too, Mulder..." She sighed. "Now take me home and prove it.

"As you wish." He guided her out of the bar with a smile, and they were
determined that they would never be separated like that again.
