SUMMARY: Mulder is visited, late one night. A light knock woke Mulder. By the light of the television he saw the slithering shadows of a person standing outside of his apartment, pacing. The gun on the coffee table was in his hand two seconds after he had awoke. Mulder silently approached the door, gun lying against his right hip, loosely held. "Funny isn't it?" The noise drifted under the door. Mulder said nothing, though he knew the voice. He gripped the gun tighter in response. "This intrigue and mystery, when we both know each other so well. We're so similar, yet so intent on maintaining this distance. Like we aren't part of the same brotherhood." Angered by this statement, Mulder flung the door open and pointed his gun at Krycek. "We are nothing alike. I am a human being. You...you're an insect." He spoke these words slowly, through clenched teeth. His trigger finger was quivering. "Then why haven't I been stepped on yet? Because if you kill me, like I know you think you want to, you will lose too much. Answers, your job, Scully." Krycek whispered the last word, and smiled. "You act very brave for a man with a gun in his face." "I've been around to long, longer then you think, to be scared of men like you. Don't get me wrong, I have much respect for you, but I know you. Like I know me. And you wouldn't do it." And Krycek reached up and took the gun. "See?" "I hate you." "That's fine. I expect that. You don't know any better now. But soon...you'll see. I'll make both of you see." "If you know me so well," Mulder spat, "then you know that I would do it for Scully's sake. And damn the consequences." "And that is what makes you such an useful tool. She is your weakness. That is the message I was sent to give you. Remember it." Krycek turned to leave. His casual saunter did Mulder in. In one swift motion, the gun strapped to his ankle, the gun he had been to tired to remove that evening, was up and fired into the back of the one-armed man. Krycek kept walking. Mulder slumped to the ground. "Scully, what are we going to do?" He sighed. Crawling back into his apartment, Mulder found his couch, and fell asleep. The End. Quick note: The show needs Krycek to be bad. That is what makes him great. His evil. Amy in Ohio ++++++++ "The world loves a bastard." Rimmer
