Readers beware, you're in for a scare. Actually, you're just in for a mushy little story. I know this is the wrong time for a Christmas story, its just I had the idea in August, so that's when I wrote it. By the way, I apologize for all the hesitation dots in this, I've been watching Star Trek so long, I tend to make my characters speak Shatneresque There's a spoiler for Gethsamane in the very beg Disclaimer- All the characters from the show are CC's, 10-13's, and Fox's. I have a theory that if they didn't want all us fanfic authors stealing them, they'd take better care of them. Belinda Scully is sort of mine, but she also belongs to the aforementioned really cool dudes, because they created the Scully family. The song "All My Life" belongs to Linda Ronstat and Aaron Neville. Dedication- To my Uncle Steve, for getting my family both a computer and internet access (and saving our butts when they crashed,) and to my bestest friend in the whole wide world Maria, for indulging my sometimes annoying sense of humor. (Long live the voices!) Leftovers of Christmas Past (1/1) As Special Agent Dana Scully ran into the basement of the J. Edgar Hoover Building, she was still shaking her head trying to clear it of the awful dream she'd had the previous night. Or at least she was praying it was a dream. She stumbled into her office to find her partner, Special Agent Fox Mulder casually doing paperwork. When Scully didn't see a bullet hole in his head, she breathed a sigh of relief. Mulder looked up at her. "Scully! How nice to see you! Thought you were just gonna stay at ho **** "She's la-ate" Mulder thought out loud. Scully was supposed to have been to his apartment at six with Chinese and videos to make it a Blockbuster night. He looked at the clock. 8:30. He had already called her apartment 6 times and got the machine. Worried sick about his partner, he ran out into the driving rain. Fifteen minutes later, he stumbled into a Shell station to see his partner standing there. But something was terribly wrong.... "Scully, what did they do to you??????" "What did who do to me, and how the hell do you know my name?" "Oh-no, don't tell me they gave you amnesia! I'm your partner! The aliens... they...they...you're a little girl!" "Sir, I think you'd better go to the hospital..." She turned to see someone running toward her. "Dana!" she yelled. "I think we'd better take this guy to the hospital, he seems sort of..." she twirled her finger in a circle by her temple. Dana Scully glared the drenched agent. "Yes, he does doesn't he." Mulder stared at her. "Scully, you're...you're...you're OK!!!!! Dammit, you scared me, I thought you were abducted.!" "Ooops, I did forget to leave a message, didn't I. I forgot I had to pick up my cousin Belinda." Mulder looked at the 15-year standing next to Scully. "I'm very sorry, Belinda. I'm Agent Mulder." "It's alright, just please, call me Lindy. So, you're the partner Dana's always raving about." Mulder looked at Scully questioningly. "Uhmm" she stammered. "It's getting late Lindy, we better go." In Scully's little car, Lindy turned to her cousin. "Sorry 'bout saying that thing about Mulder, it's just that you talk about him so much that I thought you were y'know, hooked up." "Do I?" Scully asked. Her and Mulder had been mistaken for a couple before, but never by a member of her family. "Yes, you sound like either his girlfriend or his stalker. How does Aunt Margaret get along with him? You told me how she is about men in your life..." Scully sighed. "My mom loves him. She wants nothing more than for us to get together." Lindy stared at her cousin. She was a rather perceptive child and picked up on Scully's body language. "Do you love him?" "Hmm?" Scully pretended she didn't hear the question. Actually, she hoped she hadn't heard it right, because it was getting harder to lie every time. "Dana, I know you heard me. Do you or do you not love Agent Mulder?" "We are partners, and good friends, but I DO NOT love him." "Ok, but it sure does seem like it" "I don't care what it seems like, I don't love him." "Touchy touchy." Scully turned frustratedly to her cousin, who had a Cheshire-cat grin on her face. ***** "Lindy, I'm leaving now!" "Its Christmas Eve! Don't you EVER stop working?" "Look, I'm off tomorrow, we'll spend all day at my mom's ok?" "Oh boy, a wonderful thing to look forward to, all day "Belinda, sweetie, why don't you go play with Bill's kids?" Dang, those shrimps are LOUD!" "Well, there isn't anything I can do about that, and I really have to go, or I'll be late." "Dayyynaaaaaaa, can't you just take one day off?" "No I can't." "Well, take me with you. I want to meet Mulder. I mean, meet him, not have him go psychotic on me." "Lindy, he's always psychotic." "And you love him for it, don't you?" "Will you give it up? No, I don't love him!" "If you don't take me, I'll go myself." "Oh, and how will you do that?" "Taxi. I grew up in New York, remember?" "They won't let you in." "Trust me, there are ways of getting in." "The FBI building?" The statement was accompanied by the now-famous Scully-look. "Hey, I thought you saved that look for me." Mulder said, leaning on the doorframe. Scully jumped. "What are you doing here?" "Scully, the aliens really did abduct you last night, you have amnesia!" Scully sat down on her couch and dropped her head in her hands. "Dammit Mulder, just tell me why the hell you're here before I explode." "Your brother borrowed your car, so we're carpooling, remember?" "Oh yeah, that's right." She stood up. "Lindy, do me a favor and just stay here. I really don't need you lost in D.C." Lindy sighed as they left. When they were safely gone and out of sight, she ran to the phone and dialed a familiar number. "Hello?" came the voice from the other end. "Hi Aunt Margaret!" "Why hello sweetie, can't wait to see you tomorrow." "Can you do me a favor?" "Whatever is it?" Lindy outlined her plan to her aunt, who cackled with glee when she finished. "Oh, that's perfect, you do that now." ***** The phone on Mulder's desk rang sharply. He picked it up. "J. Edgar Hoover building, Agent Mulder here, how may I help you?" "Hi Agent Mulder, is Dana there?" asked Lindy. "Sure, hang on a sec." He handed the phone to her. "Hello?" she said. "Dana, I have some really bad news." "What is it?" Visions of her apartment burned down flashed through her head. "Christmas was canceled." "Huh?" Scully sounded bewildered. *If this is some sort of prank...* "Aunt Margaret and Bill went to go see Aunt Carrie and her family in South Carolina, so we can't have Christmas there." Scully sighed. "Guess this means I have to cook." Lindy giggled. "I have to get back to work, we'll talk more when I get home, kay?" "Sure." They hung up. Mulder glanced over at her. "So, what's up?" "My mom and Bill went away, so our Christmas plans were canceled." Mulder saw how depressed she looked. "Christmas with your family is really important to you, isn't it?" "Yeah," Scully sighed. Mulder wanted to help, he really did. He just didn't know how. Then he had an idea, strange as it was. "Well.....would you and Lindy like to spend Christmas....with me?" "Sure Mulder, anything's better than being alone." Mulder was, to say the least, shocked at her acceptance. Then, the thought ran through his mind * I'm gonna have to clean my apartment...* **** AUTHOR's NOTE part 2- Well, I know what you're thinking, this story is supposed to have romance, we have a bit of UST but no romance. Well, I assure you, it will be coming up. Scully rang the doorbell at Mulder's apartment and tapped her foot impatiently. Five minutes later, Mulder finally answered the door, and for a moment he just stared at her. She wasn't wearing anything that special, just a lacy blouse and midnight-blue satin skirt. But Mulder couldn't help thinking that there was something special about it, something different it brought out in her. Then, he finally realized what it was. At work, she was always wearing professional skirt or pants suits. But the satin and lace brought out Scully's feminine side. Wait, he changed his mind. In professional mode, she was Scully. But here, here she was Dana. Scully snapped her fingers in Mulder's face. "Hello? Anyone home?" Mulder shook his head to clear it. "Oh. Yeah. Come in." Scully and Lindy walked in. Lindy somehow instantly felt at home, maybe because the apartment reminded her of her room at home. Mulder tried to clear off his couch. He hadn't got much cleaning done, his official excuse was the dust bunnies had held him hostage, but the real reason had been he was too busy thinking of Dana. He invited them to sit. Lindy ended up next to a video box. Just looking at the cover, she tried not to giggle. Scully saw what she was looking at. "Uh, Mulder, Lindy here is ***** "So," Mulder said, "how'd you like it?" Belinda grinned. "It was great, we NEVER have microwave turkey at Aunt Margaret's!" Scully tried very hard to keep from laughing. "Actually Mulder, it was really good, you musta spent, what, five, ten minutes, slaving over a hot microwave..." Scully couldn't keep her laughter back and she almost fell out of her chair. "Well, glad to see you ladies liked it." Mulder couldn't help but smile, he'd never seen Scully's humorous side much before. Belinda was still not finished with her comments. "Oh, also, I forgot to tell you how much I LOVE your tie, pink Christmas trees on a blue background, very..." "Tacky is the word you're searching for." Scully answered, a wicked grin in her eyes. Mulder looked down. "I didn't plan to wear this one, I was going to wear my electric-blue Rudophs with the hot- pink background." Belinda turned to her cousin. "And you say he's constantly depressed!" Mulder faced his partner, the smile gone. "You do?" Belinda answered for her. "Yeah, she's always worried about you." Mulder looked at Scully. Her blush spoke volumes. "Why....Scully...I didn't know you cared." "Mulder, I..." He cut her off. "Dance with me." Belinda took her cue to stick in the tape she's brought. Mulder rose and came over Scully's chair. He extended his hand. She took it and rose. They walked over to the only clear spot in his living room. He put one arm around her shoulders and took her hand in his other one. She slipped her arm around his waist. Then the music started. Am I really here in your arms It's just like I dreamed it would be Feel like we're frozen in time And you're the only one I can see Hey, I've looked all my life for you And now you're here Hey, I've lived all my life for you All my life Scully realized just how true those words were to her. She could not believe that this was actually happening to her, that her dreams were coming true. She noticed Mulder staring at her, and she met his eyes as Aaron Neville started to sing. And I never really knew how to love I just hoped somehow I'd see Asked for a little help from above Send that angel down to me The refrain repeated as Mulder considered the lyrics. Phoebe, Marita, Agent White, none of them could hold a candle to what he felt for Scully, he had just had trouble expressing it. Caught up it the rising music he dipped Scully. I never thought that I could fell a love so tender I never thought I could let those feelings show But now my heart is on my sleeve And this love will never leave I know I know As the refrain started once again, Mulder kissed Scully tenderly. He looked at her, then kissed her again, fiercely, and she found herself returning it with every bit of the passion coming from repressed feelings that had been between them for five years. They parted for air and Mulder whispered "All my life, I've searched for my soulmate-" Scully continued his thought. "And all my life it's been you." ******************************************************************************** Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Like it or didn't like it?
