Let Go, a Drabble

Let go.

You and I made the same lethal mistake: we thought we could live happily
ever after without working at it.  Without thinking regularly,
routinely: What are *her* needs?  How is *her* morale?  We each ended up
taking for granted the very center of our lives.

I never stopped loving Sharon; I stopped showing her that I loved her.
I never stopped caring; I stopped taking care.

I saw that parting friends was the best I could hope for; I worked like
hell for it.  Later, I realised it was the best I had to offer.

Let her go.
