Letter From the Heart
by Julie Burnham

To: Special Agent Fox Mulder
From: Dana Scully
Date: December 31st, 2000

My dearest Fox,
I'll be gone by the time you read this letter. I wanted you to
know some things, things I couldn't say while we were partners. I
treasure the times we've spent together, but you must know that --
after seven years of cases, you've become a truly valued friend. I
just wished that it could have been more.
"I thought that I knew all there was to know/ I knew all about love/
I lived the highs and made it through the lows/ I knew all about
love/ but know I must admit I'm surprised/ and feel I've only
scratched the surface/ 'cause baby when I look in your eyes/ I
understand my one true purpose/ You were sent to me/ by angels up
above, I'm certain/ I thought I'd show you what love can be/ but what
did I know/ until along came you/ to teach me about love/ oh yes,
along came you/ to teach me about love..."
You taught me that love... happens unexpectedly, and while I never
had the courage to tell you how I felt, I think you knew. I knew I
loved you from the first minute I walked through your office door. I
knew, with as much certainty as you believe in aliens and abductions.
You were right, though. I saw the aliens. They really are up
there. Saying goodbye has never been easy for me, although we have
both had to say goodbye to a lot of people close to us. This is the
hardest goodbye I've ever had to make. I wish you luck in searching
for Samantha and the Truth. Good luck, and (tearstain) goodbye.
                           Love,
                           Dana Katherine Scully
---------------------------------------------------------------------
As Mulder sat reading the letter for the thousandth time, he wished
that he had been closer to Scully. <Unfortunately, what's done is
done, and we cannot change the past.>
