Spoilers: I'd say a possibility up to the present there really isn't anything though. Summary: Scully is leaving the X-Files and Mulder cleverly comes up with some gifts to make her stay Notes: The Movie NEVER happened. But everything else did. La la la. ON WITH THE SHOW Mulder came into his office late. He looked at Scully and she looked back at him. She had a depressed look on her face. Mulder decided that something was up. "Scully, what's the matter?" Scully turned her head uneasily at him. Then she began. "Mulder, I-I...this is hard for me, I hope you understand that before I go on but I am....leaving the X-Files." Scully looked at him, her face was registering no emotion. "Scully, but why?" "Mulder, There is nothing left for me here, this assignment takes up to much of my life, to even get a life! I hope that you understand, please don't make this harder for me then it already is." Scully replied feeling a little nacious, she couldn't imagine what she was doing to Mulder, she only hoped that he understood. Why was she doing it to him in the first place? She thought about that question in the few seconds that she had before Mulder continued protesting. She decided that, she always hoped, no make that wished, that Mulder would give her a family, one day, and that they would find his sister, and that they would settle down in California. But he didn't seem to be offering any of those things, and it didn't look like they were going to be happening. "Scully, where did this suddenly come from? We have been working so well together! Nothing was wrong! What snapped?" "Mulder, I told you, I need to start a family, please don't do this to me, I need to go, Skinner should be sending down my reassignment papers any minute now, please sign them when they arrive. Thank you." She reached over and gave him a quick hug, then she excused herself from the room and shut the door behind her. Mulder stood there with his mouth hanging open. This had happened so fast, nothing was seeming to register with him. He pinched himself to make sure that he wasn't dreaming no her certainly wasn't dreaming. He left his office, if this was what Scully wanted then so be it, Mulder's inside voices fighted, giving him a headache. He had to do something he decided. He looked over Scully's recently new desk, It was nice, Mulder himself had picked it out for her. He looked at the pictures she had set up and arranged nicely. There was one of the two of them together, he liked that one, there was one of her whole family, before her father and Melissa had died. There was one seperately of her mom. And there was one of just her. Then there was a vase of flowers, filled with lilacs, the ones that the other day, she had claimed were her favorite, Mulder had to try something. Later that day, Mulder was in the CD store looking for a cd, one that he had thougt would be very nice to find for her. He picked it out of the shelf, and carried it over to the cashier. "$17.80 please, sir." The young cashier told him. "Here," Mulder said as he pulled a 20 dollar bill out of his pocket. "Thanks here is 18, 19, 20$. Thank you very much. Please come again." "Thanks." Mulder said as he walked out the door. He held his hand up for a taxi. One abruptly pulled over to his side of the road. "Please take me to the 'Anderson Flower Shop' " He directed the driver. 20 minutes later, Mulder was in the flower shop. The scent of all of the flowers combined was giving him a headache. He walked over to the sales clerk and asked him where the best lilacs in the store were kept. "Over there," The clerk replied, gesturing with his hand what direction to go. "Thank you," Mulder said, as he moved in that direction. He saw the beautiful lilacs sitting in racks and on vases, he decided he would need a lot to make her want to stay. He picked out the 30 best ones he could find. The sales clerk looked at him strangely when he saw as many as he was buying. "Could you put these in an arrangement for me?" "Um, yes one moment. You realize, sir, that this is going to be an expensive purchase don't you?" "Yes, I do and I have my reasons, so please run along and put them in an arangement" "Ok I'll return when I am finished." The sales clerk walked into the back room. About 10 minutes later he walked out holding the most enormous bouquet in his hands. "Gee, your girlfriend certainly is lucky" The sales clerk said as he rang up the bouquet. Mulder hesitated when he heard those words. He had wished for many years that she would consider to be his lover. She never seemed to want to pursue that type of a relationship. Back in a different cab, he decided he had to make one more stop. A jewelry store. He graciously paid the driver, got out of the car, bouquet and CD, and walked into the store. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Scully walked around her apartment, for the last time that it would be set up. She was packing up and leaving for California the next day. She was just about to sit down and watch some televison when there was a knock on her door. She got up and looked through the peephole, which revealed Mulder! With very big packages. She opened the door and let him in. "Hi Mulder" She said, he grabbed her hand and brought her over to the couch along with the packages. He sat her down and then sat next to her. He placed the packages next to her. "Scully, I know you are leaving, and I know that there is nothing that I can do to get you to stay, but I'll try my hardest, " He said as he handed her the first gift which was the cd. She opened it. He directed her to play number 17 the music poured through the room, and before they new what they were doing they were dancing with eachother. Another turning point A fork stuck in the road Time grabs you by the wrist Directs you where to go So make the best of this test And don't ask why It's not a question But a lesson learned in time It's something unpredictable But in the end its right I hope you've had the time of our life So take the photographs And still frames in your mind Hang it on a shelf of good health And good time. Tatoos of memories And dead skin on trial For what its worth It was worth all the while I hope you had the time of your life. When the song ended, Scully was on the verge of tears but Mulder cheered her up. "Come on Scully, don't get mushy on me now, there are still 2 gifts, he sat her on the couch and gave her a small jewelry box. She opened it. It was a bracelet with an anchor and a compass on it. She looked at him curiously. "The anchor, is to let you know that I would like you to stay. The compass is incase you do leave, to help you find your way." Mulder explained. "Thank you Mulder, it is beautiful and very thoughtful." "You're welcome but we are still not finished." He handed the very large box over to her. She had to stand up to open it. Her face broke out into a wild smile, as she saw what the contents of the box were. She pulled one of the flowers out of the bouquet and thread it through her hair. Mulder decided he better give her the next gift, before something he might later regret happened. "Last one, Scully." Mulder said as he got down on one knee in front of her and pulled out a jewelry box from his pocket. "Dana Katherine Scully, Will you marry me?" Mulder said very seriously. "Mulder....Of course, I mean yes I will." Scully answered as Mulder slipped the ring onto her finger. He stood up, and she snaked her arms around him. She pulled herself up and touched her lips to his. The kiss was deepened by him. It was there first kiss, and a very good one at that. It wouldn't be forgotten. "So I guess this means you are staying?" "Yes, It does" "Damn, I'm good" "I love you Mulder." "I love you to Scully" ~*~END~*~ FEEDBACK: Please I crave feedback!! DKScully43@aol.com!!
