Little Black Dresses


Clarice Starling opened her door.  "Come in."

Dana Scully smiled.  "Hello Claire - the fire ready?"

"In the backyard," Starling nodded.  "Excuse me- I have
to go get mine."

Scully, carrying her contribution, made her way to the
backyard.  Carefully she settled into a lawn chair and
waited.  Moments later Starling rejoined her.

"Little black dress number one," Starling unfurled hers.

"Little black dress number two," Scully shook out hers.

"Good-bye!" they yelled as one, throwing the gowns onto
the fire.

As the gowns burned, the women sat in companionable silence,
contemplating their fates in smoke, shadows, and stars.
