Scully dropped what she was doing-- or rather quit typing--to get a small mirror from her purse. It took a few minutes to find a way to get light to reflect in the mirror into her eye, but finally she was able to extract a loose eyelash from amongst the others still attached to her eyelid. It seemed to be a terribly long eyelash, longer than her eyelashes were. Maybe it was Mulder's eyelash.... How strange and wonderful that they were close enough, their lives were intertwined enough that his eyelashes could get mixed with hers. She wondered if they'd slept close enough that their eyelashes had mingled and clung to one another in the night. The sheer absurdity of such a thought didn't escape her, but she quickly dismissed the boring logical discussion her mind wanted to have with her. She wanted to be silly and dreamy and in love. It was a luxury she hadn't allowed herself since she high school. What was that old thing about finding a loose eyelash? Something about blowing it off the tip of your finger as you made a wish, she remembered. Should it be Mulder's wish, if it was his eyelash? She studied him across the room at his desk. Working diligently on paperwork (for once), he hadn't yet noticed her distraction. Even as she had the thought, he looked directly at her, a question on his face. She was bowled over, not for the first time, by the intense happiness she felt. "Make a wish, Mulder," she said as she puffed a breath that sent the tiny eyelash to parts unknown. He gave her a strange look but smiled as he indulgently closed his eyes in the manner of a child over birthday candles. She knew that whatever he wished, it would be her wish too. End.
