She was seven years old. She was sitting on a park bench in front of the sanitary facilities while her mother was taking Melissa to the rest room. Her father and the boys had gone to drive bumper car. She had wanted to go with them, but they wouldn't let her. 'Leave that to the men!' Bill had told her. She had wanted to call him a very bad name, but that would have annoyed her father and ruined the whole day so she had obeyed and kept quiet. Now she was sitting on the park bench, waiting for them to come back. Suddenly a young boy, about two years older than she was, came to the bench. He gave her a smile and sat down beside her. He was eating an ice cream. She decided she would ask her mom to buy her one, too. Vanilla and strawberry maybe, or vanilla and chocolate. Or vanilla and strawberry and chocolate. The boy noticed her longing gaze at his ice cream. He held it out to her and asked, 'You wanna take a bite?' She gave him a puzzled look. 'You cannot bite ice cream, you have to lick it', she told him. 'Yeah, normally you lick it', the boy agreed. 'But you can also take a bite if you want to. Why don't you try it?' He held the ice cream cone in front of her mouth. She hesitated then she took a bite - and scewed up her face. 'What's the matter?' he asked. 'Don't you like strawberry?' 'The cold hurt my teeth!' He grinned. 'What's so funny?' She shot him an angry look, while rubbing her teeth with her tongue in order to warm them. 'Nothing. I'm sorry', he said, still grinning. They sat in silence while the boy finished his ice cream. 'You're here alone?' she saked him then. 'Nope', he said. 'My parents took my sister to see the Punch and Judy show. I'm too old for that stuff. And you? Where're your mom and dad?' 'My mom's at the rest room with my sister. My dad and my two brothers are driving bumper car. I wanted to go with them but they wouldn't let me.' 'Why not?' 'Cause I'm a girl.' 'That's stupid! They think you can't drive bumper car 'cause you're a girl?' 'Yeah.' 'I think you could do it', the boy said with total conviction. 'Really?' She eyed him suspiciously. 'Of course.' 'That boy is really nice', she thought. She smiled at him. He smiled back at her. Then she saw her mother and Melissa coming from the rest room. 'I gotta go now', she told the boy. She stood up. 'Wait a minute', he said, grabbing her hand and pulling her back. Quickly, he placed a kiss on her cheek, then he got up and ran away. She blushed and turned her head to look for her mother and Melissa, hoping they hadn't seen it... She woke up when her alarm clock rang at seven o'clock. 'Can I ask you something?' Mulder asked her about two hours later. They were in their office. 'Yes, of course. What is it?' Scully asked back. 'Something personal?' 'Well, yeah. What is it?' she repeated. 'Do you know the name of the first boy you ever loved?' 'Yes, of course...' 'I don't mean your first boyfrien, I mean - the first boy you ever loved,' he explained. 'No matter how old you were', he added. 'Why are you asking me that?' She was perplexed. 'Because I remembered something last night. Something that happened when I was nine years old.' 'What happened?' 'In the summer of 1971 my parents and my sister and I spent a day at an amusement park. I met a girl there - I don't know her name - and we sat on a park bench and talked, and I liked her a lot, and when we said goodbye I gave her a kiss, and then I ran away because I feared she'd get angry at me. She was the first girl I ever kissed. I don't know why I did that. She was really nice. I guess I had a crush on her. I've never seen her again.' 'Yes, you have', Scully thought. She stared at Mulder, remembering the dream she'd had the previous night. She couldn't believe it. It wasn't possible. 'I don't know why I told you that', Mulder continued. 'It's just, I haven't remembered that in years and...I always wondered what her name could've been. I wish I knew. By the way, her hair was red, like yours...' Then he noticed the strange expression on her face. 'Scully, are you okay?' he asked her. 'Mulder, you know her name.' 'What're you talking about?' 'Oh, my god, Mulder, I don't believe this!' 'Scully, would you please tell me what's wrong?' 'The first boy I ever loved...I was seven...I never knew his name...at least that's what I thought...' 'Scully?' 'Mulder, you were the first boy I ever loved!' The questioning look on his face told her that he still did not understand. 'That red headed girl at the amusement park was me. And you were the boy who told me he believed that I was able to drive bumper car although I was a girl.' His face showed an expression she had never seen on it before - it was something between surprise and shock. The, after a few seconds, he started to smile. It was the same smile the young boy had given her almost thirty years ago. 'I wonder why I've never recognized you', he said. 'I think it's because I never remembered that little girl until last night.' Last night... Why'd she had that dream last night? Why had she remembered that day at the amusement park in her dreams. She knew that from now on it would be different between Mulder and herself. She had always wondered what he was like when he was a boy. Now she knew. And she also knew why she'd always had the feeling that she had known Mulder all her life. 'Scully, do you think we're meant for each other?' he asked all of a sudden. She stared at him in surprise. He had shocked her and he knew it. But something had made him ask her that question. She didn't know what to say. She was still in shock. 'I don't know...' 'I think you do', he replied. She had to smile. She got up from the chair she'd been sitting on and walked over to him. Standing right in front of him she looked him sraight in the eyes. 'You know...I've always wanted to kiss you back' she told him. 'You're welcome.' His smile was rapturous. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him softly on the cheek. 'Come on, Scully, you're not seven years old any more', he said teasingly. 'You're right.' She brought her hand up to his neck and pulled his head down. Their lips touched, and they kissed. 'You wanna go drive bumper car now?' he asked her afterwards, a little breathless. 'As you said, I'm not seven years old any more', she smiled. 'Any other suggestions?' 'Sure', she said. 'Take me home.' -----Ende-------------------------------------------------------------
