INTRODUCTION:.. We all know what happened when Mulder met Scully. At
first contact, sparks flew, egos flexed, and the chain reaction started.
But what if it wasn't the first meeting? What if they had known each other
before, just how much more charged could you make that fateful meeting on
March 6 , 1992 ? This story grew from the concept of how the first meeting
would be different if the two agents had known each other intimately before
but separated under extreme circumstances.
I chose the slant that they were in fact MARRIED to one another seven years
before. To set up this scenario so they would separate without contact for
seven years required some extreme angst and nasty business.

WARNING: If the thought of rape, spousal abuse, and brutal violence
disturbs you, avoid the first part of this story. Likewise if the use of
profanity or description of graphic sex and auto-eroticism are
distasteful to you , stay away from this story. If you can handle mild
naughtiness and implied sex, try part 2. It has it's own intro which will
carry the story.

I am working on a PG rated version but I'm not sure if anyone really cares
either way so let me know if you would like to see it.

MEETING THE INVISIBLE MAN (1/2)

June 1984 London England

Capt. William Scully had planned a grand family vacation just like in the
old days before his kids started to grow up. He was on temporary
assignment in England doing some PR work as part of a UN task force on
multi-national peace keeping missions. He arranged housing for his whole
clan to join him for the summer. At the last minute, Bill Junior received
orders to report for field assignment in the Persian Gulf and Charlie got
accepted for a University of California field internship. Although proud
of his sons, Capt. Scully was disappointed since this was probably the last
chance they would ever get to spend more than a weekend together. He would
be retiring soon and as strange as it seemed that would tie him down more
than his job. His only consolations was he had all the Scully women with
him for a 3 full months - His wife Maggie, his eldest daughter Melissa, and
his "Starbuck", Dana.

Melissa and Dana were thrilled with London, both for different reasons.
Melissa loved the night life and club scene. Dana enjoyed the history and
culture. After only a few days of exploring the city together, they chose
different paths. As expected, Dana spent more time with her parents.
Melissa would join them if they wanted or expected her to but she was hell
bent to take advantage of a free trip to England, courtesy of dear old
Dad. Although both his daughters were adults now, Dana just barely, he
still expected them to respect his house rules as long as they lived under
his roof. Maggie convinced him that it was unreasonable to expect Melissa
home before 1 AM and made him settle for a phone call instead. Melissa was
happy to check in since it gave her the freedom she wanted and her Dad's
approval. Dana rarely went out at night , and when she did, she was back
by 11.

One night after Melissa called to say she'd be home after she and her
latest best friends watched the moon rise over Buckingham Palace, Maggie
decided it was time to have another heart-to-heart with Dana.
"Well, Melissa is certainly having a wonderful time here, although it's not
quite how your father envisioned it. What about you, honey?"
"It's great ! Even after moving all over America, I never imagined I could
call another country home. But I guess where ever you and Dad are will be
home to me." Dana's relationship with her parents, especially her father,
was like giant pendulum that swung from extreme devotion to total
rebellion. She was in the devotion phase right now.
"Dana, no matter what your father thinks, you're your own woman, now. Of
course, we'll always be here, or wherever, for you but it's time to
consider what you want for yourself. "
"Thanks Mom but I'm still looking for what I want. It really doesn't matter
where I am as long as I have a career I enjoy. I'm nearly finish with my
BS in physics but I'm not sure it's enough. I already have several bio
classes so I've been thinking about completing the pre-med curriculum and
applying to Med. School after I get my degree."
"My daughter, the doctor. I think I like the sound of that. I know your
father will love it. But what about you? You've spent so much time in
school you hardly have a social life anymore."
"That's OK Missy makes up for both of us. Maybe that's why I try to make
up for both of us on the academic side. Maybe I can be a rocket scientist
and a doctor and she can be my public relations agent."
"Honesty, Dana. You should get out and meet some young people your age
instead of hanging us or the library."
"We'll see. If I meet someone, I want it to be someone interesting and
thought provoking. Someone who sees the world differently than me but
still has some common ideals. Someone who cares and wants to make a
difference in the lives of others."
Maggie sighed at the optimism of her baby girl. "I think that's what I said
when I was your age. But I settled for a man I was madly in love instead."
"I'm greedy, Mom. I want both."

A few hours later, Melissa came home with a guest. Dana was sitting on the
front porch reading H. G. Well's "War of the World" and enjoying the
cold dampness of the night air. She heard the commotion that always
preceded her sister and looked up. Her eyes caught sight of the most
gorgeous man she'd ever seen being pulled up along by Melissa. He waited at
the base of the stairs as Melissa went to Dana.
"Hi, Dana. Is Dad asleep?" she said quietly.
Dana was distracted by the stranger and answered slowly. "Uh, I think so.
He and Mom went to bed about a half hour after you called." Then she
whispered "Who's that?"
Melissa looked back at the young man and smiled to her sister "He's
something else, isn't he? I met him at the club tonight, him and some of
his chums from Oxford." Dana seemed impressed that Melissa had landed an
Oxford Man. "Well we planned to watch the moon rise over the Palace when
someone realized it was too foggy to see anything. Anyway, his friend took
a liking to my friend and off they went." They looked at the man as he
waited nervously. " He's stranded here until the train runs in the
morning. Personally, I think I got the best part of the deal." Melissa
smiled at the man and he smiled back shyly.
Dana's eyes widen with shock "Missy, your not going to sneak him into the
house, are you?"
"He's an American and he has no place to spend the night. I couldn't just
abandon him, especially since we have an empty bedroom. And don't worry,
he's sleeping alone... for tonight at least." She winked at Dana, implying
she had more plans for this misplaced American. "And you'll never believe
his name - FOX."

Melissa signaled for Fox to come up the stairs. As he approached, Melissa
grabbed his hand and presented it to her sister. "Fox, meet my little
sister, Dana."
"Hi, Dana, glad to meet you" he whispered. He towered over Dana as she sat
in the chair and even after she stood up he was a good 10 inches taller.
But all Dana noticed was his bright hazel eyes.
Melissa giggled slightly at her sister's loss for word and said "Dana,
aren't you going to say hello to the man?"
Dana finally took his hand and gave a firm shake, just like her Dad had
taught her, and said "Glad to meet you, Mr...."
"Mulder. Fox Mulder." he replied with a smile.
"Fox, stay out here until I make sure the coast is clear." Melissa said and
she slipped into the house.
"Do you really attend Oxford?" she asked him.
He nodded. "Psychology." He looked at Dana's book "Do you really read H.
G. Wells?"
"I am now. I think it's fascinating how he examines the human spirit
juxtaposition to non-human experiences, like time travel and alien
invasions." She was unconsciously trying to impress him.
"That's funny. I thought he was trying to show that the fantastic,
non-human experience as you call them, was just an extension of the human
evolution. That the mundane and the extraordinary coexist and interact
constantly." he replied intensely, consciously trying to impress her
"But the human spirit remains the constant." she countered.
"How else are you going to sell books if people can't relate." he
responded.
Her face wrinkled a bit. "I'm not sure how well I related to Martians."
"You bought the book didn't you?"
"No actually, my brother gave it to me. Along with 'The Time Machine'
after I tried to explain how Einstein's Theory of Relativity related to
time and space travel. Attached was a note that said 'You study physics
your way, I'll study physics my way.' So I tried his way."
"Sounds like you're open to new ideas, even if you don't believe them" She
shrugged and nervously opened her book again. Fox smiled broadly at the
fiery yet oddly shy petite redhead. "You're nothing like your sister, are
you?"
Dana began to get fidgety at this attention from this handsome stranger.
"Well, we're both Scully's -quick tempers, hard-heads, poor losers."
"So what are your bad traits?" Dana hid a smile as he continued "So, you're
studying physics? Why?"
"Because that's what makes the world go 'round. Why are you studying
psychology?"
"Because that's what make the world stop." She looked at him quizzically.
He turned and stared deeply into her eyes intent on gaining her attention
"You see, everyone plays this game we call life. The rules are constantly
shifting and changing but most of us keep up. But sometimes certain people
get a whole new set of rules in their head and force the rest us to stop
and watch."
"You're talking about people who are insane?" she asked for clarification.
"Mad men, messiahs, revolutionaries, pioneers." He paused, dropped his
voice lower and added "You, me."
Dana blushed and shook her head. "Uh, no one is stopping to watch me."
"I am." he replied softly. She saw the color of his eyes shift from hazel
to dark green.
Just then Melissa came back out "Come on, Fox. I'll show you your room for
the night. I'll sneak you back out in the morning."
He turned and smiled at Dana "Good night. And by the way, the Martians die
of the common cold."
Dana shut her book and glared at the young man grinning mischievously, as
he followed Melissa into the house. Dana sat in dark, trying to decide if
Fox Mulder was most wonderful man she ever met or the strangest man she
ever met. She finally called it a tie and went to bed, where she dreamed
of Martians, mad men and Mulder.

The next morning, Melissa over slept. Fox woke up and realized Mr. And
Mrs. Scully were up and about. He remembered what Dana had said about the
Scully's temper and decided to try to climb out the window. The window
refused to open wide enough for him to squeeze through but in the process
of opening it, the hinges squeak loudly. Maggie heard the sound and
checked the room expecting to find one of the girls. Instead she faced a
very surprised looking young man who seemed to have lost the ability to
speak.
"Who are you and what are you doing in my house?" She demanded. Capt.
Scully hearing his wife, ran up the stairs and entered the room.
"Who the hell are you?" he yelled.
Fox choked out a broken reply "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to intrude...
your daughter said I could stay the night..."
Capt. Scully threw up his hands "What is Melissa up to now?"
"No. Dad, it was me." Dana said as she entered the room in her robe.
He stared in confusion at his daughter "Starbuck? What's are you talking
about."
She walked over to Fox and waved. He waved back, unsure of what was
happening but placed his trust in the younger Scully. "This is Fox
Mulder, a friend of mine. He's an American, a psych major at Oxford. He's
interested in English Literature, like me, He stopped by last night to
talk about the latest book I'm reading and it got too late for him to catch
a ride back home. I told him he could sleep in the room we had set up for
Billy and Charlie, and he could take the train back home in the morning. I
meant to wake up earlier and tell you but I didn't set the alarm."
The story was so good even Fox believed it.
Capt. Scully look suspiciously at the young man. "Fox?" he questioned.
Fox raised his right hand "I swear, that's really my name."
"Where are you from, Fox?"
"Chilmark, Massachusetts. Near Martha's Vineyard." he replied quickly, then
swallowed hard preparing for the next question.
"What book were you and Dana discussing last night?"
"War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells"
"What time did the last train leave last..."
Mrs. Scully interrupted the interrogation "Honestly, Bill ! You've scared
the poor boy half to death. Dana says he's her friend and that's good
enough for me."
Capt. Scully grumbled to himself and finally addressed Fox again. "Well, I
guess if you're our guest I should offer you some breakfast."
He started to answer "No, don't bother..."
"Sounds great." Dana chimed in. "I'll change and join you in a minute." She
ran back to her room.
Maggie motioned to Fox. "Come on then. I'll fix you some good old fashion
American flapjacks. Bill, be a sweetheart and see of you can close that
window."
Dana woke up Melissa and told her what happened. Melissa sighed with
relief and said "Thanks, Sis. I owe you one."
Dana nervously said "I know which one I want." and looked down the stair
were their guest had gone.
"Fox ! You want him? You're kidding !" Dana shook her head. "He's not
you're type, trust me."
"We got along pretty well last night." she argued.
"For a few minutes. You didn't see him at the club last night. What ever
he pulled on you out there , don't believe it." Melissa was genuinely
concerned about her sister's naivet‚.
"Come on, Missy, Yes or No."
"We'll let him decide."
"Fair enough. Join us down stairs."

They talked causally at breakfast about unimportant things. Capt. Scully
was finally convinced he wasn't some crazy kid lusting after his Starbuck.
Maggie was happy that Dana seemed to have a friend but she also knew just
hours before he supposedly arrived, Dana had no one to talk to England.
Dana was careful to tell as much truth as possible. When Melissa came to
join them, Dana said Melissa met Fox last night, implying they where out
on the porch together when Melissa came home.
"What time do you have to catch the train, Fox." Maggie asked.
He checked his watch. "It leaves hourly. I should leave soon to catch the
9 o'clock. Dana, would you care for a day tour of Oxford?"
Startled by the offer, she turned to her father. He spoke his concerns
"She shouldn't have to come home alone after dark."
"I can borrow a friends car and bring her back by 11." Fox offered.
"What do you think, Starbuck?"
"I'd love to see the University." <And more of Fox.>
Mrs. Scully announced "Scratch one for dinner."
Dana returned to her room to gather some things to take for the day and
Melissa walked in and said "I guess he decided. But don't say I didn't
warn you."
Dana smiled a her sister and said "Thanks. For everything."

Dana and Fox got to know each better during the train ride and through out
the day. Dana was fascinated by Fox. He was intelligent, charming, witty,
and handsome. But there was something else, something dark in his soul.
It made him see the world a little differently than others. And made him
mysteriously sexy. Dana fought the urge to flirt openly with him. She
wanted him to view her as an equal not as just another date he'd dump in a
few hour. Oddly enough, Fox had the same thoughts about her. He actually
hated his name, Fox, but somehow it sounded good when Dana said it. They
talked about ordinary things - where they were from, how they ended up in
England, etc. - but they also discussed things that were out there - time
machines, Jack the Ripper, Jung's theory of collective consciousness.
"Oxford is kind of like a time machine" he explained "As you walk through
here, bits of history grab you and give you a vision of what it was like
around here over 500 years ago."
"You don't really 'get a vision' do you? You know all spooky-like?" she
asked.
"Sometimes, especially at night. You can hear the voices speaking old
English debating the cause of the Crusades, or smell the fear of young
women afraid to travel beyond the walls because men like the Ripper prowl
the streets or feel the ground shake from the Germany air raids."
"That's just your imagination." she said dismissing his story.
"Oh really? And how do you know I'm not just a figment of your
imagination?" he asked in the that tone that made Dana excited and scared
at the same time.
She blushed and answered "My imagination isn't that good."
He smiled and said "Either is mine. I don't understand Old English."

The summer went by quickly for Dana. Her new friend provided hours of
intellectually stimulating conversation and debate, causal teasing, and
many new perspectives. Oddly enough, the more time they spent together
the less inclined they were to pursue a romantic relationship. Melissa
thought Dana was wasting this treasure on a platonic friendship. Dana
pointed out that was the difference between them.

One day, while walking along the River Thames, Dana asked Fox about their
relationship. "In all the times we've gone places together, you've never
tried to kiss me or even hold hands. Melissa said that you certainly
weren't shy the night you met."
Fox stared down at his feet "Women at a club is one things. Relationships
are something else." He reflected before speaking quietly. "I'm still
recovering from had a bad experience with a woman I was involved with. I
guess I'm a little gun shy when it come to anything more serious than a one
night stand."
"Sorry." Dana offered, slightly stunned by his openness.
Fox perked up and took her hand gently. "Don't be sorry. I'm the one who
should apologize. I've monopolized your time. You could be out a real
date and..."
"...and I wouldn't have any fun because I would wonder what your opinion
was about everything that was going on." she teased.
Fox gave her a hug and said "I think you've single-handedly restored my
faith in women." then he slid his hand on to the small of her back to
guide her along as they walked.

That night, Fox offered to take Dana to some of the clubs he frequented.
She declined, worried she wouldn't fit in. She spoke candidly and honestly
"Melissa told me about how you behaved the first night she met you. She
called you 'a sexy shameless flirt'. If that's what she saw I can't imagine
what I'd see."
"Dana, you'd still see me. Those others including your sister don't see me
at all. I might as well be invisible. They think they see but it's just a
fancy illusion. Something I invented for my friends so they'd stop trying
to fixed me up with sexy woman." he comment dryly.
She rolled her eyes "Oh yeah, a fate worst then death."
He leaned close to her and whispered "In my book, smart is sexy."
Dana thought he needed a dose of reality and asked "Was she smart, the
woman you were involved with."
Taken back by her comment he leaned back slightly "Yes, she was brilliant
but..." He moved in even closer and spoken even softer "...but she doesn't
know the first time about time travel."
Dana quickly changed the subject "Want some ice tea?"
So instead of going out that night, Dana spent the rest of evening trying
to explain to Fox the various theoretical models for time travel. After an
hour of intensely listening , Fox simply said "Are you coming on to me?"
Dana bopped him with a pillow and laughed "You ARE a sexy shameless flirt."

The rest of the summer was filled with many more fun light hearted times
until one day, two weeks before leaving for home, Dana called Fox in tears.
"Dana, are you all right? What happen?"
"Oh God, Fox, help me." She cried "I've been raped."

Fox quickly came to her aid. She had called just after it happened and
agreed to meet him at a clinic he knew. Fox had a few unsavory encounters
while in London and knew just where someone could get good medical
treatment for little money and no outside involvement. Dana was terrified
of telling her father and mother, or calling the police. He tried to tell
her that the truth would come out eventually but she simply said she'd
face it then, hoping she would be stronger than she was now.

When she first arrived at the clinic all she could do was cry. The staff
was sympathetic and made sure she had no life threatening injuries, then
let her be alone until her friend arrived. As soon as Fox got there, Dana
held him tightly and tried to describe what happen but broke into sobs
often. Apparently, two men grabbed her off the street in broad daylight.
Their primary intention was to rob her but she had nothing of value to
steal. Except her dignity. One held her down and while other stripped her
then raped her violently, mocking her vain efforts to fight back. He even
said she must really be enjoying it to get so excited. She managed to get
a good sharp kick to the groin of her rapist but that only angered them.
For revenge, the other man sodomized her mercilessly. Stunned by pain
and shock, Dana was left in the alley, her clothes and belongings scattered
around her. After re-dressing herself, she called the only person she
could trust enough to tell this horrible incident to - Fox.

The doctor examined her as Fox held her hand and stroked her hair, trying
to calm her as much as possible. The areas of entry were traumatizde but
only minor tearing occurred, not requiring sutures. Venereal disease, AIDS
and pregnancy were the greater threats. They took a blood sample, gave her
a shot of long acting antibiotics and had her take a "morning-after" pill.
They advised her to get follow up HIV and pregnancy testing. The bruises
were starting to show and she knew she'd have to face her parents and try
to explain why she didn't call the police or go to a regular hospital. Fox
quietly asked her "Do you trust me?" She nodded silently. Then he asked
"Do you think your father trusts me?" She wondered what he was up to. .

Fox made a phone call from the clinic. "Capt. Scully, it's Fox Mulder.
Dana... Dana came to see me today and I just got an offer from an old
friend to spend a the week in Inverness... Yes , Sir that's at the mouth
of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. She'd like to come with me but I
have to leave this afternoon. I want to assure you that I'll watch over
Dana and get her home safely. Yes, Sir , here she is." He handed the
phone to Dana who shiver slightly at the though of lying to her father.
Fox whispered "The truth."
"Hi, Ahab. Yes, I do want to go with Fox to chase monsters. I promise to
save any white whales for you. We don't have time to stop by to get my
luggage so I'll make due with what I can borrow from Fox and his neighbors.
Thanks for understanding. Tell Mom I love her and I'll see her in a few
days. Bye."
She hung up the phone a let a sign of relief. "So Fox, what are we doing
for the next few days."
He smiled at her, and took her hand "Going to Inverness. I wasn't kidding
about an old friend up there."

Dana and Fox spent a week together along the Loch Ness. Fox's friend
didn't seem surprised that he showed up with a young woman and left them
alone for most of the visit. Most of the time was spent quietly staring
into the dark waters of the Loch. After spending several silent hours at
the Loch, Dana asked Fox "Do you believe in monsters?"
"Yes but not like the ones that might live in these waters. If Nessie is
in there, it's no monster. Just some big fish or whatever trying to
survive. No, we're the real monsters. Killing each other for a parcel of
land, blowing up children in the name of freedom.." He started to choke on
the words and held her tightly "...attacking women just to be cruel..."
Tears flowed from his eyes as he whispered "I'm sorry, Dana. I'm sorry I
couldn't stop them."
Dana felt a coldness sweep over her as she thought of the attack then she
felt the warmth of Fox's tears. "Fox, there wasn't anything you could have
done. You weren't even nearby." she consoled him. Even though she was the
one attacked, somehow it affected him almost as deeply.
"There's never anything I can do." he said sadly. "My sister disappeared
when I was 12. We were alone in the house then she was gone. I still
don't know what happened that night. But I couldn't help her either."
Finally Dana understood at least part of his darkness. "Is that why you
took up psychology. To understand these monsters?"
"No" he said quietly "To stop them."

Fox never spoke of the loss of his sister again. Instead he focused on
Dana and was there for her if she needed a shoulder to cry on or an ear to
listen. He spent every night outside her door, ready to intervene when her
nightmares overwhelmed her. One night she asked him to stay with her until
the morning. He was reluctant at first, concerned that he felt a strong
attraction to her as well as being her friend. But she insisted and so he
stayed, sleeping in a chair at her bedside, holding her hand in his. She
slept peaceful that night and had no more nightmares after that. Poor Fox
however was disturbed by erotic wet dreams of Dana and him together.
As the week passed, Dana's bruises looked better, enough to be dismissed
as minor bumps, but the scars within had only begun to heal. The fear of
disease and an unwanted pregnancy hung over her. Perhaps the most
frightening part was that she would have to face it alone. Spending their
last night together in front a warm wood burning stove, Fox comforted her.
"Dana, you shouldn't have to deal with this by yourself. If you can't tell
your family, call me, write me. I'll be there for you if you need me."
"Thank you." She regarded him sadly "I'm going to miss you so much. Not
just when I'm hurting, but when I feel like a good debate or I want to
share a dream."
He touched her cheek with his finger tips. She sighed and smiled. He
spoke in a whisper "Do you ever wish you had done things differently? Wish
you had explored new possibilities when you had the chance?"
"Fox, I don't believe in regret. Things happen then you move on. You've
told me so little of your past. Of the loss of your sister and the pain of
isolation. As an adult, you've expressed painful separations and feelings
of helplessness. I think you still harbor the same fears you had a child.
Let the past be. You need to move on."
He smiled realizing that Dana was still so innocent that she didn't know he
was talking about their relationship, not about his past. "I wasn't
thinking about my childhood. More like my manhood." He joked.
Finally understanding his meaning, she hugged him and said "Your manhood is
just fine. But I can always find another man. I only have the one good
friend. Good night." Dana retired to her room as Fox watched one more
chance slip away.

A week later the Scullys returned to the States. Fox couldn't see them off
at the airport since his classes had resumed at Oxford but sent Dana a copy
of H. G. Wells' "The Invisible Man" with the inscription, "Look and you'll
always see me. Love, Fox."

Dana returned to the University of Maryland while her parents stayed in New
York so Capt. Scully could finish his assignment. Her life rapidly fell
back into her old routine. She often thought of Fox but never could come
up with words for a letter or phone call. Apparently, neither could he.
After months of constant conversation, the pair was suddenly silent.

In the middle of November, Fox received a two line telegram from his
friend, Dana. It simply read "I'm pregnant" followed by a phone number.
He called immediately. "Dana, it's Fox." He heard a burst of tears. "Dana,
are you all right? Talk to me!"
"Fox, thank God. At least now I have someone to talk to. I don't know what
to do?"
"Is everything else all right? Are you healthy?" His voice was full of
concern.
"Yes." She grew silent for a minute. "Fox I've missed you."
"I've missed you, too. Sorry it took something desperate to get us together
again. I'm coming to see you."
"You can't just leave school?"
"It's just graduate seminars. I can take a short leave of absence."
"No, Fox there's nothing you can do. I just needed someone to talk to."
"Forget it, Dana. I'll be there this weekend and I'm staying until just
after Thanksgiving. I have an idea...."
"Fox, there nothing you can..."
"Marry me. Come back with me to England. I'll tell your father that I...
that it's my child. Conceived during our trip to Inverness."
"I can't..." she voice choked as she sobbed.
"No, Don't answer now. Think about it and I'll talk to you this weekend.
Give me your address in Maryland." He wrote it down hastily.
"Why are you doing this?" she asked.
"Because...because I can. I'll call Saturday morning when I arrive. Bye."

That Saturday, as promised, Fox Mulder arrived at Dana Scully's apartment
in Maryland. After their initial hug, Fox kissed her lightly on top of
her head. They continued to embrace until he finally whispered. "Marry
me, Dana. It's the only logical choice."
"Fox, you can't give up your life just to help me out"
" Don't you understand, Dana. I love you. It took me 5 months to realize
it but I love you." His dark green eyes looked straight into her heart.
"I think I love you, too, but I'm so confused I don't know if it's real."
she said.
He held her face in both hands then leaned over to kiss her. She tried to
turn away but his hands held her still. His soft lip met hers and he place
a warm tender kiss upon them then whispered "Will you marry me?"
"Yes" she whispered back and stretched up to met his lips again. A small
spark of passion ignited a deeper kiss, but it faded back into the silent
embrace.

They talked all afternoon. Not like a couple that was engaged, or a young
woman in distress and her savior, but like two old friend, which was really
what they were. It wasn't until after dinner they talked about how this
would all work. Next week they would go see her parents and tell them they
were in love, and Dana was going back to England with Fox and they would
get married there. If they were pressured into explaining why things had
to happen so quickly, they'd tell them she was pregnant. Her parents
would draw their own conclusions. Fox only had another year and a half to
complete his doctorate after which he and Dana would return to the US so
she could finish her degree. They wanted no ceremony or fanfare. They
just wanted to be married to one another. Fox could reassure them that he
had a reasonably large savings to sustain them until he could start
working. Fox didn't plan on seeing his estranged parents. They had all but
shut him out of their lives. He planned on sending them each a letter and
a photo of Dana and himself.

"Don't worry Dana, everything will work out."
"I trust you, Fox. But what about us...You and me together..I mean...I
can't..."
He smiled to calm her fears "Don't worry about it. There no reason to rush
into having sex. Once we're married we can deal with that. For now, I
just want to sleep with you and hold you close. Is that OK?"
"That's perfect" she sighed as she kissed his cheek and nuzzled his ear.
As they slept together for the first time that night, they each got what
they wanted the most. Dana felt safe and protected, and Fox felt loved and
needed. They laid together fully clothes in sleepware, her back to his
front with his arm wrapped around her. She woke several time in the night,
unaccustomed the to presence of another body in her bed. He slept
contentedly but she could feel his large erection against her buttocks. As
he shifted his weight, his erection press against her and she heard a moan
escape his lips. Unfortunately the sensation made her want to scream in
terror, recalling her brutal rape. She pulled away but remained in contact
with his hand.
Dana was no virgin. She had sex with a few different men. But now the
thought of sex with this kind, gentle, attractive man revolted her. Not
because of him but because of her and the horrible violation of her body.
She felt nauseated at the thought then realized it might just be morning
sickness. She relaxed a little and fell back a sleep, gazing at the man
who said he loved her.

Monday morning, Dana started the process of withdrawing from the
University. An understanding registrar granted her a one year leave of
absence for medical reasons which would convert to a withdrawal if she
didn't attend classes by the fall of next year. That was the hardest part
for her. She had worked so hard to stay at the top of her class and had
great plans for the future but now every thing was changing. She would be
married with a child by the middle of next year. "No regrets" she
reminded herself as she packed away her books. Fox helped her pack what
she would take to England with her. Everything else was boxed to go into
storage with her parents things.

Things went as well as could be expected with her parents. Capt. Scully
was furious that Fox would ruin her life like this. He'd actually taken a
liking to Fox because he always seem so caring and protective of Dana.
Fox remained calmed. He knew he had the truth on his side. "No matter what
you think, Sir, I love Dana. This isn't just about some rash impulse, some
mistake I'm trying to hide. It 's about keeping my promise to you when I
said I'd watch out for her. I didn't mean just that week in Scotland. I
meant forever. It took me months to get the courage to ask. Her condition
was just a reason to act now."
Capt. Scully could see that Fox was sincere and his love for Dana was
obvious. Their indiscretion must have been by mutual consent blinded by
they love for one another. Capt. Scully refused to give his approval but
gave up on arguing.
Maggie was concerned that Dana would be away from her friends and family.
Dana said "The few friends I have don't understand why I won't just get an
abortion and get on with my life. Fox is the only one who knew me well
enough to know I wouldn't even consider it. And family? You guys move
around so much I need a new address book every year. Everyone else in on
their own. Fox is my family and right now he lives in England so that
where I'll go. We'll move back to the States in a few years. By then Dad
will have retired and you'll settled down. I promise you can help raise
your grandchild."
Capt. and Mrs. Scully both felt a rush of pride as Dana mentioned their
grandchild. Maybe they could have a ceremony when they moved back to the
US, just for family and closest friends, Mrs. Scully suggested. Capt.
Scully agreed to call Bill Jr., so he could handle the over-protective
big-brother instinct. They all expected him to go AWOL, find Dana and
drag her home, and beat the crap out of Fox. Dana would write Charlie who
was still wandering around the California desserts, and Maggie would call
Melissa that night.
Dana and Fox spent the rest of the week there, sleeping together in the
same room. Capt. Scully winced at the idea but Maggie reminded him that
Fox and Dana belonged together now.

Thanksgiving was a very subdued affair at the Scully household that year.
Bill sent a telegram wishing Dana the best of luck and threatening Fox if
he hurt her. Charlie called over a radio phone to say Hi and Good Bye to
his sister. Melissa came by for a few hours after dinner. She took Dana
aside and scolded her "I told you to watch out for him."
"Look, Missy, he came all the way back from England to get me. I think
he's sincere. He does love me."
"It's you life, Sis, but believe me - This guy is trouble. He's too sexy
for his own good."
Dana could help but smile thinking about what Fox said about how people saw
him. Melissa thought she was smiling about something else and asked "Since
you're marrying him and I'll never find out first hand, how was he?" Dana
choked in disbelief. "Come on Dana I always tell you."
"That's exactly why I'm not telling." Dana replied.

Monday morning, after the holiday rush, Dana and Fox left for England.
They were officially married on Dec. 20 in Oxford. Fox made up for lost
time in his studies and spent many late nights writing monographs and
psychological profiles, as part of his doctorate thesis. Dana often helped
him by getting into a good debate over some of his stranger conclusions.
She discovered he was really quite brilliant and got frustrated as she lost
many of these debates but not without first uncovering any weakness in his
theories. What really irritated her was the way he'd interrupt her by
hugging and kissing her when her rebuttals began to falter. He said it was
a form of operant condition to get her to quit arguing. She responded by
debating longer and harder, which is what he really wanted anyway.
At age 20, Dana was learning a new life style as expectant mother and
housewife. She read volumes about child birth and child care. That was
her new 'major'. She taught Fox what he should expect as well although he
turned bit pale at some of the more graphic details of the actual birth
process. They spent their first Christmas together at home. Their
presents to each other were wedding rings. They chose something unique,
befitted of their relationship. The matching rings were gold bands inlay
with black and white onyx, to reflect the darkness that brought them
together but also the light they brought into each others' life.
Fox continued to be gentle and loving but became progressive frustrated by
her refusal to be intimate with him. Her morning sickness made matters
even worst. He tried using his psychologist techniques with her but
discovered his own emotions interfered with the process. He suggested they
seek counseling before the baby was born. Although she was afraid to face
it, Dana knew it would be best to start now. At least now she had Fox with
her to give her strength.

With the holiday rush they couldn't get an appointment until after the new
year. After a couple of appointments with the counselor, Dana felt
comfortable enough to tell the her the whole story of her rape. The
counselor stressed how important it was for her to recall the painful
details so she could face them and let Fox face them with her. For the
first time, Fox heard the whole story with every terrible detail. Her
feelings of helplessness and rage. The sensation of being viciously
violated, ripped apart from the inside by her attacker. The sense of shame
as they mocked her, implying she was in some way responsible for her own
plight. She described each individual act of humiliation - having her
nipples pinched by filthy hands, being forced to lubricate her attackers
with her own saliva, begging for them to come inside her so they would stop
hurting her, so on. She sounded remarkable calm., not sobbing like she had
been that night. She had detached herself from the event and could see
each detail clearly. She even described in detail the setting and the
appearance of her attackers. Fox listened and felt every emotion and
sensation within himself. He started to cry and Dana stopped to comfort
him. The counselor encourage her to continue. As she held Fox's hand she
told the remaining details of her ordeal. Fox suddenly became aware of the
fact that along with the horror he felt listening to the details, he had
become very aroused as well. He shifted in his seat to hid his harden
bulge. As Dana told the part about how she called Fox and he helped her
through the night, the tension became unbearable for him. He stood up at
said "I'm sorry, I can't take this. Call a taxi to take you home. I'll see
you there. I love you." He kissed her quickly and ran out. Dana and the
counselor sat stunned. The counselor finally spoke. "I guess we'll have a
lot talk about next time."

Fox ran to nearest Men's room and started masturbating roughly. He tried
to purge the image of his beloved Dana being raped by those animals but his
perfect memory captured each detail. In his mind, he became her oppressor.
He felt her body shudder against him as he forced himself upon her,
demanding her submission. He cursed them for violating his mind ,
revealing his dark desires to himself. Relief came mechanically and
painfully but he couldn't deny the surge of pleasure at the moment of
climax. He slammed himself against the wall, enraged and helpless. He
recalled a vague helpless feeling when his sister Samantha had
disappeared. He breathed hard and tried to think. <I'm not a helpless boy
anymore.> He left the room and went to a pub he knew that was frequented by
some of his rougher friends.

Dana went home and waited, wondering what horrible thing happened to the
her husband. She recalled the look of anguish on his face as he left the
office. She was nearly at the half way point of her pregnancy and
discomfort was a way of life. But with the emotional stress added, her
misery was as complete as she could imagine. Around 9 PM the phone finally
rang. It was Fox calling from London. He told her that he a gang of his
friends were hunting down her attackers with the intention of beating them
senseless, and castrating them if he could stomach it. She was beyond
shock. The kind and gentle man she loved sounded like just another wild
animal in the streets of London.
"Fox" she pleaded "Just come home. I need you here."
"I'm sorry, Dana. I have to do this. Maybe you can forgive those bastards,
but I can't forget what they did to you. How it hurt you. I can't just
stand by again and do nothing."
"You CAN do something. You can come home and be with me. Remember what I
said 'things happen and then you move on'? It's time to move on."
"I'm sorry" he cried "I can't move past what they did to you. Or to me."
He told her what happened after he left the office - his own auto-erotic
fantasy of raping her.
She was speechless. Her mind was numb. All she could hear was Fox saying
he was sorry over and over.
She finally spoke in a flat emotionless voice. "Just come home as soon as
you can."
Insane with hatred and remorse, Fox tore the phone off the wall and
screamed at all the demons that conspired to ruin his life.

The scum that inhabited the darker street were creatures of habit. Fox and
his friends found Dana's attackers in the same alley where they took her.
The pair of thugs were no match for six angry healthy adult males, who held
them while Fox extracted his revenge. Fox yelled incoherent obscenities at
them as he struck repeated blows to their heads, which rapidly became
bloody , not just from their own wounds but from Fox's fists. He threaten
to castrate them, to sodomize them with a broken bottle, to cut off their
penises and stuff them down their throats. Fox's friends were even shocked
by his rage and they tried to pull him away before he killed the subdued
pair. He broke free and started to strangle one of the rapist. As he
started into the eyes of the dying man, Fox slowly lost his anger and his
hand relaxed. The rapist started to breath again. Despite his anger and
his desire for vengeance, he wasn't a killer; he respected life, even in
its lowest form. Fox's friend were relieved he regained some control and
started to rush him away from the scene. The rapist realized the attack
was over and that they didn't have the guts to kill him. He taunted Fox as
he walked away. "Was she the small Yank redhead?" Fox frozen in his steps
"Yeah, she was a sweet one, hot, tight, eager to please..." Fox torn at
the man again and delivered direct blows to his groin until blood oozed
through his pants. Then he viciously kicked the unconscious man in the
crotch until his friends grabbed him and forcible carried him off. Covered
with blood and nearly catatonic, he was taken to the same clinic that
treated Dana.

Fox sat on the exam table, breathing heavily and staring glassy eyed..
"What's he on?" the doctor asked, as he checked Fox for reflexes.
"Nothing, he's just pissed as hell" one friend said.
"Yeah, and off the record, the two guys he was pissed at are back down
about 20 blocks in the alleyway." another friend added helpfully. The
doctor signaled to his assistant who rushed to out of the room.
After a few minutes and doctor reported. "We got him cleaned up, dressed
his wounds and gave him a tetanus booster. But he's a state of shock.
You'll need to keep an eye on him. Make sure he stays warm and don't give
him anything to eat or drink until he's fully conscious. If he gets worst
bring him back immediately. You'd better get him out before those other
two get here. What did they do to get him into this state?"
"The bloody bastards raped his wife."
Suddenly Fox snapped to consciousness. "DANA ! I have to call Dana" He got
up but lost his balance on his wobbly legs.
His sympathetic friend caught him as he fell and said "Take it easy,
Mulder. We'll take you home to Dana."

Fox tried to call home but there was no answer. Panic stricken, he called
the apartment manager.
"Mulder, where have you been all night? Dana started bleeding from below
so they took her to hospital nearly two hours ago."
They rushed to the hospital. Fox jumped out of the car and went to the
front desk. "They brought my wife in a few hours ago - Dana Mulder."
The nurse look at her log sheet. "Well, they brought in a Dana Scully
with a pre-partum bleed. Is that her?"
He hung his head and swallowed hard. "Yes, that's her."
"She's in surgery right now. Take a seat. We'll call you when she's out."
"Can't you tell me what happen?"
"It looks like a miscarriage, sir. I'm sorry."
He sat down and cried into the bandages that covered his battered hands.

Fox told his friends thanks for their help but he needed to be alone. They
all understood and asked for him to let them know if Dana was all right.
The surgeon entered the waiting area and asked "Are you Mr. Scully?"
"Mulder, my name's Mulder but Dana Scully is my wife. How is she?"
"She lost a lot of blood but she'll be all right. You do know we lost the
fetus."
He tighten his lip and nodded. "What caused the miscarriage?"
"Could have been anything. Trauma, stress, exposure to a toxin."
Fox felt more tears run down his face and he whispered to himself "Dana,
I'm sorry."
Aware of some unusual circumstance the surgeon said "Sorry for asking but,
were you the father?"
He shook his head. There wasn't any reason to lie any more.
"Do we need to contact him?"
"No, I already contacted him." he rubbed the bandages on his knuckles. "Can
I see her now? I've been away from her for too long already."
The surgeon eyed the wounds suspiciously. "I'll let you know when it's all
right." He went to the nurse and said "I think we may have a case of
spousal abuse. Don't let him in to see her."
The nurse spoke quietly "With all due respect, Doctor, I've been watching
this man for the last hour, talking to him. I don't think he'd ever harm
his wife."
"Guilt and remorse, even tenderness, is common after an attack. But for
God's sake, look at him! It wasn't his child and she didn't even use her
married name."
"I know, Doctor but you don't understand. This man LOVES his wife."
"That's what they all say." he replied with disdain.
"No , Doctor. This man NEEDS his wife. He's going to explode right here in
waiting room if you don't let him in to see her very soon."
He looked at the anxious man and saw the look of panic deep in his eyes.
"Maybe your right. Just make sure the Recovery Nurse keeps an eye on him."

Fox was a different man at Dana's side. Much calmer and more composed, he
sat besides her and whispered to her softly "I'm sorry Dana. I should have
listened to you. I should have moved on. I did this to you. The stress,
the fear, I'm sorry."
Her eyes fluttered open and dry words came from her mouth "It's not your
fault. It's mine."
"No, Dana. I made you lose the baby. Through my anger and vengeance."
She shook her head "I willed that miscarriage. I couldn't bear the memory
of my rape. And either could you." She tried to raise her hand to touch
his face but he took a hold of it instead. "Your hands. What happen?"
"We found them"
"And..."
"They'll never hurt you again. Don't worry their not dead. I knocked the
fight out of them."
She gripped his hands tightly and said "Fox, I will say this for you. You
revel in you obsessions."
"You're my favorite obsession, Dana." he kissed her tenderly and cried with
joy at her touch.

Dana called her family and explained everything. The rape, Fox's
kindness, the miscarriage. They were shocked but understood how this could
all happen. Her father asked if she would be coming back home and she said
she was still married to Fox. To his great relief, Fox learned she had
registered at the hospital as Dana Scully because she hadn't changed her
insurance yet. During her recovery, the man she loved so much attended
her every need, while finding time to completing his intense graduate work.
His gentleness and openness captivated her all over again. Buried deep was
the psycho who tried to kill two men and the lust driven would-be rapist of
his nightmares.

For her birthday in February, he took her to a quiet bed and breakfast
inn in the Lake District. She was fully recovered and he had started to
romance her again. He did truly love her and wanted to express it with his
whole body and soul. She love him as well but still associated sex with
violence against her. Despite her concerns, their first night started
out promising. They had advanced from teasing to tender, sensitive foreplay
but Dana became frighten at the sight of his full erection, anticipating
tearing pain on penetration. She let him slide the shaft along the moist
edges of her vaginal opening but pulled away if he tried to change the
angle to enter her. Desperate to come inside her, he begged for her to
take him in her mouth. She tried but the sensation overwhelmed him and he
lost control, almost choking her. They finally ended with mutual
masturbation, which brought them both to orgasm and some sense of
satisfaction.. The following night they did the same thing. Fox was
overjoyed that they seemed to be making progress.

Unfortunately, they fell into a steady pattern of building up tension
without relief that Fox sought. They watched, licked, and rubbed their
way into orgasms but Dana always called a halt before he could penetrate
her. Fox became increasing frustrated and restless. They attended therapy
sessions but he was always told to be patient, that Dana was still
recovering from the trauma of her rape and miscarriage. He started to
frequent sex shops to find something that might stimulate her enough to
consent to real sexual intercourse. A slender vibrator excited her enough
to allow him to insert two fingers in her guarded opening. Once again he
lost control and got too rough, causing her to retreat to square one. He
tried to be gentle even with his own masturbation as his violent moods
always frightened her. He regretted the day he went on a rampage because
he knew how seeing him like that scared her almost as much as her rape.
He started to watch the videos in the sex shops so he could jerk off as
roughly as he pleased, cursing and swearing at the woman on the screen who
weren't Dana. He stashed porno magazines in his study at the University,
to provide a distraction the morning after another unsuccessful night. He
tried other forms of auto-erotic stimulation privately to keep himself from
seeking the services of other women.

His former lover, Phoebe Green , who still attended Oxford, teased and
tempted him without mercy. She had been furious when he got married but
now she sensed his desperate desire and tried to take advantage of it. She
cornered him alone one morning after a particularly unsatisfying evening.
She stood too close for causal conversation but he didn't dare push her
away, knowing that in his sensitive state the touch alone could send him
out of control. He hated the way his mind and body still reacted to this
woman who tore his heart and soul apart for her own entertainment.
Phoebe spoke with well rehearsed sympathy "Mulder, I know that face. I'm
sorry the honeymoon is over, or perhaps it never started. Are we having
trouble with the wife performing her wifely duties?"
"What do you care? Maybe you're just jealous that someone else can hurt me
more than you." A small voice in his head told him to shut up, that he was
playing right into her hands.
She stepped even closer, so close he could feel her breathe "You know I
never meant to hurt you. I simply couldn't resist my deepest urges. Urges
just like the one you're having now." Without realizing it, Fox let out a
groan which signaled Phoebe that she was right on target. "I know what this
must be doing to you. A man as passionate as you are, denied his primal
cravings. I can help..."
Ignoring the obvious arousal he was experiencing, he said firmly "No, get
away from me. I don't need you."
"But maybe Dana does. I can show her what you want, what you really want.
Maybe she just needs a little coaxing with a woman's touch..." Phoebe had
no interest in a threesome but she knew she couldn't fight his love for
Dana , so she used it to excite him instead.
The image of these two sexy women performing for his benefit inflamed his
raw lust. He grabbed her and pulled her body tight against him and started
to kiss her when she let out a small laugh. The small voice in his head
was screaming <She's doing it again. But this time she not just screwing
with your mind, she's trying to hurt Dana.> With that thought, Fox finally
pushed her away. His eyes burned a hateful stare into hers and he said
angrily "Get the hell away from me! And stay away from Dana. You have no
right to exist on the same planet as her."
Surprised by his outburst, she tried to calm him "Mulder, listen to
yourself. You don't know..."
He roughly shoved her away and raised his right hand, threatening to slap
her. He shouted "Get the fuck out of my head ! Don't ever try that again!"

Phoebe had never seen him like this before. She had driven him out of
control with lust before and this looked remarkable similar, right down to
the raging hard-on pressing against his trousers. Except now he wanted to
hurt her. Her psychologist mind would have loved to stay to analyst this
one but her common sense told her to get away from this insane man. Her
pride prompted her to deliver one final parting shot "When your frigid
wife has you properly cuckolded, don't expect any sympathy from me."
He slapped her across the face. Hard. Shocked that he would actually strike
her, she turned and ran away without a counter move. He was thankful she
was gone. Not just because he couldn't stand the sight of her but because
hitting her triggered an orgasm.

Fox regained his control and tried to rationalize his actions. He wasn't
sorry for slapping her, she deserved it, but this was the second time he
had been sexually stimulated by a violent event. All the sexual tension he
was holding back was just looking for an emotional outlet and these
violent episodes provided that outlet <BULLSHIT, you're just using any
excuse to get off.> He went back home and confessed his near-infidelity to
Dana. She did what she always did when he was distraught and cradled his
sobbing head in her arms. She gently reassured him "I won't leave you. Not
as long as you tell me the truth. You've sacrificed everything for me. All
I have to give you is my love. I'm sorry I can't give you...what you
need."
"All I need is your love." he sighed "What I want can wait until you're
ready. I'll should help you instead of being so selfish that I....." his
voice tapered off , afraid of admitting to his actions and thoughts.
She stopped him from his exposing himself to more pain by kissing him
softly on the lips and whispering . "Thank you, Fox."

Fox continued to find ways to stimulant his wife while comforting her and
making her feel safe. One day he brought home a large dildo, clearly
larger that his erect penis. He had used a smaller one on her before and
she found it pleasurable but she didn't think she could handle something
this size.
"Trust me. Let me do. I'll be gentle. Don't I always stop when you tell
me?" She nodded nervously.
First he teased her with soft kisses and light touches all over her body,
eventually settling on to her clitoris. He whispered seductively "You're
very wet and very ready. Just close your eyes and relax." He covered the
dildo with lubricant and rubbed it against her clit to keep her excited.
He drew it slowly down, just separating the folds of flesh. She gasped and
started to grab his hand to stop him when he lifted it slightly to press
against her clit again. She moaned with pleasure and let him continue. He
did this several times, each time pressing deeper. "You want this, don't
you?" he whispered hotly. "It wants you." Her hips began to respond pulling
the dildo in deeper with each stroke. His own erection had been throbbing
the whole time but he did dare lose his concentration. < She was so wet and
open, I could slide in there and she'd never realize it..> Now he started
to stroke it back up, pushing the tip in slowly then rocking it out against
her clit. Her whole body responded to the touch, arching her back, pushing
against the bed. He switched motions again now sliding the tip in further
and back out again for a few strokes, each getting deeper, then sliding it
out against her clit. "Oh, God, Dana you're so beautiful. Especially when
you're hot. Are you hot now.?" She nodded "You want to get hotter?"
"Yes" she hissed though tight lips, her eyes still closed.
He shifted positions so he could lick her clit while pressing the dildo
deep inside her. The constant licking made her writhe with excitement. He
used the motion to drive the dildo in deeper with each slow stroke. She
began to raise her hips rhythmically, pushing it in further each time. He
increased the pace and pushed it in to the hilt. "Yeah, that's it . Take it
all. Take the whole fucking thing." The deep, intense penetration and
Fox's careful ministrations brought her to a convulsive orgasm.

Dana was exhausted by the session and fell a asleep almost immediately
after her orgasm. Fox rubbed her wetness on to his cock, just enough to
take of the edge off the tension. He would let her rest a while before
pushing her further. He'd broken through her final barriers and could
enter her at last. He remembered the last time he had real sex. It was
the night he met Dana but it wasn't with her of course. It was one of
Melissa's friends, whom he met at the club that night. It was a stand -up
quickie in a dark corner of the club. The woman, whose name he couldn't
remember, smelled of clove cigarettes and whisky. She teased him
mercilessly as they danced and pulled him into the corner. She became
bolder grinding her hips against his erection. He stood still and groaned
but made no other moves because he really didn't like her that much. She
finally accused him of being gay or impotent. For some stupid reason he
reacted by screwing her right there in the club, which is what she wanted
in the first place. <The bitch even teased me when she put on the condom.>
Then she went off to seduce his best friend then Melissa came over to keep
him company. He tried to stay aloof the rest of the night, tired of being
manipulated by women then discarded along with the soiled latex. Melissa
wasn't as direct but she had plans in the works as well. Then he met Dana
and everything changed. He changed, so he thought. But now he was there
making plans to seduce his own wife, teasing her out of her own control.
He told himself over and over , it's what she wants, too. He looked at her
quiet form and knew what she really wanted was to sleep in peace. Fox
decided go to sleep as well, pressing warmly against her back.

He awoke to an exquisite view. Dana was naked, straddling him on her
knees, rubbing her wetness against his length. She smiled "Glad you
decided to join me."
He smirked at her "Did I miss anything?"
"Uh, you seemed to have lost something" she point to his limp penis.
After nights of frustration, now that she seemed ready, he wasn't. Images
of the stupid bitch in the bar filled his head and in protest his erection
shut down. He pushed against her and said "Give me a minute." A minute
turned into 10 minutes and he still couldn't maintain an erection. She
smiled and stroked his placid member, "It's OK. I'm not going anywhere. We
can try later."
He tried to stroke himself into stiffness with marginal success. "Damn I
can't believe it. I must be some kind of fucking masochist. This is
useless." Dana let out a small laugh. The memory of Phoebe flooded his
brain and he started to lose control. "Do you this is funny?' He asked,
anger building on top of his frustration.
"Well, it is ironic. And you do look cute when you pout like that." she
said teasing. She realized too late this was not the time for games.
Something snapped in Fox's head
He sat up to challenge her. "Oh, is that why you've been driving me crazy
for nine months, because it make me look cute. This is all just some kind
of sick fucking game to you women." His voice rang on the verge of rage.
And worst, his erection began to firm.
"Fox, You're scaring me" Dana cautioned.
"You keep saying that ! I have never given you any reason to be frighten of
me, but you keep backing away anytime I raise my voice or hold you tight."
He grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him. He was fully aroused and
pressing into her abdomen. "Tonight you saw that you can take me in if you
want to. Hell you could have handled a fucking baseball bat. I won't hurt
you. I just want to fuck you proper." He didn't know how loud he was
yelling or how tightly he squeezed her arm.
"Fox you're hurting me now." Dana felt the terror creep over her again as
she tried to reclaim her arm.
"That not the kind to hurt I was talking about." He leered at her. He
rolled over her, released her arm and forced her legs apart.. She laid
still, afraid to move. Panting hard, he kneeled between her spread legs.
He massaged his red swollen cock with one hand and ran his other hand along
her vaginal opening. She had lost all traces of dampness, her fear
overcoming her passion. But it seemed that his anger drove his desire
further. He swore loudly "Fuck, I'm not going through all that again just
to get you wet." He grabbed the bottle of lubricant he used on the dildo
and rubbed it on his cock. The cool. slick sensation made him growl with
pleasure as he spread it on himself in long hard strokes then roughly
applied it to her. He pumped himself selfishly then yelled at her again
"Look at it ! I'm going to fucking explode inside you." Dana trembled with
fear, knowing she was going to be raped again.

He dropped his full weight on her and started pressed his erection against
her. He felt her muscle tighten in defense. He yelled into her face
"Open you're damn cunt, you cock-teasing bitch. You're my wife, dammit and
I'm going to fuck you whether you like it or not."
In a weak small cowering voice she cried "Please...no... don't hurt me."
Her quiet sobs finally got thorough his anger and reached his heart. And
it ripped through his heart like no pain he'd ever felt before.
It was like waking from a dream, or more like a nightmare. It was the same
horrible image that entered his head after hearing the details of her rape.
He rolled away from her, dropped off the bed to the floor where he hit
with a thud.
Dana's first reaction was to get away but instead she reached down to him
"Are you OK?"
He moaned in agony, not from the fall but from his own actions. "No, I'm
not OK. I'm a fucking asshole and I deserve to die."
"No, you don't." she replied softly "You just lost control again. I
shouldn't have teased you."
"Dana, I lose control all the time. I just can't hide it anymore. I
focused all my anger at women who've used me on you. Next time it'll be my
frustration with work or my disappoint over my parents. Some day I'm going
to hurt you and I couldn't live with that." He stood up and starting
getting dressed.
"Fox, what are you doing? Come back to bed with me." she pleaded.
"NO, not ever again." he said with determination. He wanted so much to
touch her and pretend this night never happened but it was something he
could never forget or forgive himself for. He couldn't even look her in
the eyes as he left "Good bye, Dana, I love you."
She knew she couldn't stop him. For once, he was in control "I love you
too, Fox." She cried and held herself tightly as he walked out of their
home.

Fox went out to the clubs he frequented and did his best to screw every
petite red-head he could find. When the clubs closed, he cruised for
hookers who fit the bill. He yelled at them as he ravaged them, then said
he loved them, then told them good-bye. He wasn't sure if he was trying to
hid the memory of Dana from his heart or ingrain it in his brain.

Dana became worried went he didn't return the next day. Some of his
friends had seen him the night before prowling in London but not today.
Another day passed and she called the police who took a report and
recommended she try the hospitals. She went to the clinic were she had
been treated and ask if he'd been in there. It was their policy not to
record names but the doctor on duty remembered her from when she was
attacked. Dana's worried look overcame his better judgment and he told her
that he came in that morning to be treated for a mild concussion and deep
scratch wounds inflicted by a prostitute who stole his wallet. "You know,
he was in here about six months ago. He'd gone bonkers and tried to kill
the two men that attacked you. Then about three months ago he showed up
with a vibrator jammed up his rectum."
"So that what happened to it" she said unconsciously.
"That man needs his head examined." was the doctor's medical opinion.
"He knows. He's a psychologist." she reply dryly
"He also need a full time medical team"
"Maybe I'll go to medical school."

The trail turned cold. He'd lost his wallet and money so he'd have to go
somewhere for the night. As a last resort, she went to the spot along the
River Thames where talked often only a year ago. There she found him
huddled on a bench. "I think it time to go home." she said softly as she
touched his shoulder.
He withdrew from her touch. "I don't have a home" he replied numbly.
"Yes, you do. And so do I. Yours is back in that apartment. Mine's in
Maryland."
He stared at her , his befuddled brain trying to comprehend. "You're...
you're going back?"
"The only reason I came here was to be with you. Now it will only hurt you
more if I stay. The U of M had me on a medical leave for one year. If I
go back this fall I can pick up where I left off." She touched his
shoulder again and instead of flinching, he leaned into it. "Fox, you need
to stay and finish the things you've started here. This marriage is over."
He spoke slowly and carefully "I guess we need to get a divorce."
"That should be easy. I haven't perform my wifely duties."
He smiled slightly and gazed at her, no hint of anger in his voice "Did you
plan this all along?"
She smiled back "I was ready to go to bed with you the first day we met.
Then our friendship got in the way. Then more things came up. I guess
certain things aren't meant to be."
"Like us?" He held her hand and studied her wedding ring.
"Actually I think we were always meant to be..." Then she pull her hand
away and removed the ring "....but not like this, not here, not now."
"So....when?" he said, refusing to take back the ring.
"When I believe in Martians, and time machine and invisible men. When you
learn what battles are worth fighting . When the right answer isn't the
most logical one.. When you learn when its time to move on."
He sighed deeply "I was hoping it would be during this lifetime." She
smiled back as they stayed silent for many minutes. He stood up and guided
her toward his car with his hand in the small of her back as he often did.
"I was right about you, you know." he said finally.
"About what?"
"Hundreds of people walked passed me today. And I had sex with several
women and I think one transvestite the past two nights. But every single
on of them looked right thorough me. You're the only one who saw me.
Despite everything I've done to hurt or embarrass you, you still see the
same me."
"I still love you, Fox" she said.
He stopped and looked at her with a pained expression "Please don't.... It
IS time to move on. I can't bear to hear you call me by that name. It's
too...personal."
"So what should I call you?"
"The guys at school just call me Mulder."
"OK , MULDER, I guess you should call me Scully from now on."
"I kinda like the sound of that, SCULLY. It makes us sound like good
buddies, not lovers."
"I think that was the original plan, Mulder."

Scully and Mulder went back to his apartment and unentangled their lives.
Although she spent her last days in England at his place, they slept in
separate beds and conversation was limited to the bare essentials. The
divorce papers were signed and her belongings were packed. They parted ways
five days later. A few letters and calls passed between them for the next
few months but all communication ceased after a year. They both put that
year of their life behind them and moved on.

END PART 1 -Continued in Part 2

MEETING THE INVISIBLE MAN (2/2)

SUMMARY OF PART ONE : Dana and Fox became close platonic friends while she
was vacationing in England in 1984. They share intellectual debates on the
works of H G Wells, quiet reflection on the Thames and a desire to change
the world for the better. Shortly before leaving England, Dana is
violently raped and turned to Fox of solace, too afraid to tell the police
or her parents. After returning to college, Dana discovers she was
pregnant and turns to Fox again for comfort. He confesses his love for
her and offers to marry her, allowing her family to believe it is his
child. They return to England and get married but are troubled by Dana's
refusal to be intimate with Fox. During a counseling session, Dana reveals
the details of her rape, which both horrifies and sexually excited Fox.
Outraged at his violent fantasies, he hunts down and tries to kill the men
who raped her. While he is gone, Dana has a miscarriage and losses the
baby. Wracked by guilt and trying to make a fresh start, Fox tries again
to romance his wife to nurture their relationship. Despite her love, she
cannot overcome her fear of sexually intercourse, although they engage in
tender moments and sexual foreplay. Fox's frustration drives him to seek
relief through pornography and almost back into the arms of Phoebe Green.
Anger and aggression grows to the point that he nearly rapes Dana.
Despondent over his actions, he leaves her for fear of hurting her but she
finds him wandering the streets of London. She encourages him to put this
in the past and get on with his life, just as she plans to do with her
life. They agree to a divorce and decide to not use each other first name
as it only served as a reminded that they still loved each other. They
quickly lose contact and went on to seek their own lives until.....

March 6 1992 Washington DC

Special Agent Dana Scully reported to FBI Headquarters for a new
assignment. Her new career so far had been interesting and she had
received recognition from her peers as being an excellent instructor, but
she was anxious to prove her worth as an investigative field agent. She
wanted to out from behind the autopsy table so to speak. She never felt
her decision to join the FBI was made lightly. It was chance for her to
make her mark on the world, to make a difference in the real lives on
people. Too many medical doctors practiced in the confines of a restrictive
setting or they had to constantly scramble for funding. and most research
was governed by corporate mentality. So the FBI wasn't the gateway to
condos on the beach or memberships in exclusive golf clubs, but it was a
place where she could distinguish herself. Oddly enough, although her
father thought of it as rebellion, part of her motive was to pay homage to
her father by serving her country just as he had. The last and least
important reason was that the FBI was the last known whereabouts of her one
time husband, Fox Mulder.

Her last letter from him said he had joined the FBI and would be training
at Quantio, Virginia. If the timing was right he could see her before she
went off to Medical School. But the timing wasn't right and thus ended
their friendship. Once in the Academy herself, she heard stories of
"Spooky" Mulder and read his monographs. She found a few phases in his
early monographs that she actually contributed, indirectly, during the
course of their debates. She wasn't at all surprised that his intuitive
nature combined with his formal training won him recognition. She often
thought of looking him up but still had no idea what she would say. "Hi
Mulder, How's life treating you? I earned my BS and MD , then joined the
FBI. And by the way , I still love you and I think I'm ready to have sex
with you." It just didn't work.

Of course, she had seen other men since her divorce. She even dated one of
her instructors at the Academy, Jack Willis. In retrospect, she realized
he was just a surrogate for Mulder. He was in FBI, passionate about his
work, tender and caring but she had hoped that an older more mature man had
the self control that Mulder had lacked. Instead Jack was brooding and
sullen, unable to relax and enjoy himself, and far too protective of her.
Playing and teasing with Mulder had been one of the best parts of their
time together. Recalling his unique sense of humor, his boyish grin and his
habit of playing dirty always made her smile. Mulder at his best was hard
to beat and even harder to forget. Despite her residual feelings and fond
memories, she had managed to put it behind her and move on with her life.

So at this pivotal point in her career, Dana Scully felt she was ready for
anything. Then while sitting in Chief Blevin's office she was asked the
question she had hoped to avoid since joined the Bureau. "Are you familiar
with an Agent named Fox Mulder?"
<Say something., Scully> "Yes I am."
"How so?"
<I was married to him for a year, but we were divorced because we were
sexually incompatible - Bad answer.> "By reputation.....Generally thought
of as the best analyst in the Violent Crime Section <why do I sound proud
of that>....He had a nickname at the Academy... 'Spooky' Mulder.<I guess
it's better than being call a sexy shameless flirt.>
"Are you familiar with the so called X Files?"
"I believe they have to do with unexplained phenomena" <Mulder IS an
unexplained phenomena.>
"...we want you to assist Mulder on these X-files..."
<They think he's lost it ! That he's out of control, again! They want me to
do their dirty work.> "I'm I to understand you want me to debunk the
X-Files Project, Sir?" <You lousy bastard, leave Mulder alone. What ever
he's doing with these X-Files you can bet no one else would do a better
job.>
"Agent Scully, we trust you'll make the proper scientific analyst. You'll
want to meet Agent Mulder shortly"
<Well at least he got that right.>

Scully found the basement office of Fox Mulder <Mulder I always knew you'd
hit bottom. And then take me with you.> She knocked on the door.
"Nobody there but the FBI's most unwanted."
It was definitely Mulder. He was still "The Invisible Man" to others, but
never to her. She wondered how much he had changed. She walked in and saw
the UFO posters and strange photos and charts everywhere. He'd changed a
lot apparently. He had a new obsession. And how he reveled in his
obsessions.
Then she saw him. Sitting at a table sorting slides. He had on glasses.
She didn't remember him wearing glasses. But they looked great on him.
His face was more drawn and his hair was shorter but it was Mulder. She
noticed his left hand. He still wore his wedding ring. Or maybe he just
put it on for her sake today. Either way, it was a welcome surprise. He
turned and looked at her. She drew a quick breath at the sight of his
smile and remembered the first moment they met. It was a 'first meeting'
all over again.
She extended her hand and said "AGENT Mulder. I'm Dana Scully. I've been
assigned to work with you."
He gave her hand a as firm shake just like she taught him.

Mulder had always known that their divorce was necessary at the time. They
were both too young and immature. He abandoned hopes of ever leading a
normal life and studied the dark places in the minds of men, trying to
better understand his own violent side. Although still prone to emotional
outbursts, he had learned to control his rage and no longer found sexual
gratification from aggression. Well, rarely found it, that is. Years ago,
he had conditioned himself with images of gentle, restrained lovemaking
with Dana. Now she had walked back into his life like a gift for heaven, a
reward for his patience. Or was it test?
He gazed into her eyes, clearly glad of his second chance and said in a
deep sexy voice "Isn't it nice to be suddenly so highly regarded.''
Nervously, she broke eye contact and scanned the room. Concerned that she
may have doubts about working with him, he turned back to his desk and
tried to lighten the tone. "So who'd you tick off to get stuck with this
detail, Scully?"
She suppressed a laugh and moved next to his chair then stroked his face
and smiled "Actually I'm looking forward to working with you." She winked
and added "I've heard a lot about you."
That was all the encouragement he needed. He grabbed her and pulled her
into his lap. She put up only a minor protest. He raised an eye brow at
her and teased "Oh really? I was under the impression that you were sent
to spy on me."
<Two can play this game, Agent Mulder.> she thought. She shifted slightly,
grinding into his awakening erection. As he moaned, she said "If you have
any doubt about my qualifications or credentials...."
He pushed her off his more sensitive areas, trying to stay in control and
anxious to show he'd keep tabs on her over the years "...You're a medical
doctor... you teach at the Academy..." He pulled out the copy of her
thesis she had sent to him in her last package to him. He waved it at her
"...You did your undergraduate degree in physics.. 'Einstein's Twin
Paradox: A New Interpretation .Dana Scully's Senior thesis" He dropped it
on the desk and dramatically announced "Now that's a
credential....Rewriting Einstein."
Pleased that he remember but irritated by his wisecrack remark , she slid
up his lap again until he flinched then kissed his cheek and whispered
seductively "Did you brother to read it?"
He smiled back and replied enthusiastically "I did! I liked it" He got
out of the chair, pulling her up with him. He stood behind her and
gestured to the items in his office. "It's just that in most of my work
the law of physics rarely seem to apply." He set up the slide project and
Scully realized <WORK, that's right we're suppose to be working.> She turn
her focus to the screen. He turned off the lights but didn't turn on the
projector. He stood behind her again and whispered "Maybe I can get your
medical opinion on this..." She nearly fainted as she felt his hot breath
in her ear followed by his hand guiding her hips so that her buttock
stroked his exposed erection. After seven years he still wanted her. That
would make one hell of an article for the New England Journal of Medicine -
the man with the 7 year hard-on.

But after seven years, she still wasn't ready to let him enter her private
space. Not because she was afraid of the pain of penetration as before,
but because she was afraid of the pain of separation. She knew once they
completed that final joining , she couldn't bear to lose him again. She had
been married to Fox, a wonderful young man with a kind, loving heart but
prone to fit of rage and a darkness he could never deal with. Now here was
Mulder, a brilliant, caring man who entered the minds of serial killers and
chased flying saucers. Perhaps that was how he chose to deal with his
dark side, by making it his job to bring the light into the darkness of
others. Now as his partner, she had an opportunity to help him finally
move beyond the fears of his past, something she wasn't able to do has his
wife. As for their personal relationship, that would have to wait; they
had a job to do. They were FBI agents. Of course that didn't mean they
couldn't have some fun. <What did he say in his last letter? He joined
because he though FBI stood for Fondling Before Intercourse, a skill he
perfected with her.>

She turned and firmly took hold of his erection. He gasped and threw his
head back, overwhelmed by the sudden sensation. He tried to pull her
closer but she stepped back and turned on the slide projector. Then she
went back to turning on Mulder. As the image flashed of the screen, she
gestured for him to present the case history. Mulder smiled realizing she
had every intention of mixing business with pleasure. Her face never
betrayed the actions below. <This is a test. A test of my ability to
control myself under stress.> He leaned back against the desk and let
Scully's perfect stoking technique satisfy his body, while his mind
attempted to engage her intellect. Pointing to the screen, he started
"Oregon female, age 21, no explainable cause of death...."

Mulder pondered the question of just how big a sicko you'd have to be to
look at autopsy photos while being jacked-off by your partner/ex-wife in
the basement of the FBI headquarters. About one Mulder's worth he figured.
He was still amazed at her even after all the years apart. Her sharp mind
that loved a challenge, her beautiful body that drove him wild, her loving
heart where he wanted a home. Long ago on the bank of the Thames, didn't
she say she thought that they WERE always meant to be together. But not
until she believed in Martians, and he knew which battles were worth
fighting, when the logical answers weren't the right ones. Made not yet
but soon, especially if he could get her to embrace the X-Files as he had.
She continued to tease his body. Time for him to tease her mind.
He turned to her and said seriously ".... maybe what you can explain to
me why it's Bureau policy to label these cases as unexplained phenomena and
ignore them." She regarded his question, as she gentled replaced his
genitals into a more socially acceptable position and zipped up his fly.
<Just so he knows, he's going to have to wait, again.> She thought for a
bit then realized he was trying to draw her into his obsession - the
X-Files. She was beginning to see the method in his madness.
He continued in a spooky voice "...do you believe in the existence of
extra-terrestrials ?" then smiled like the cat that ate the canary.

<Damn him and his memory.> Scully thought. Mulder was not only trying to
pull her into his professional crusade but also his personal life. She
wasn't going without a fight. "Logically, I'd have to say no. Given the
distance needed to travel from the far reaches of space, the energy
requirements..."
Mulder nodded impatiently barely hearing her words. <I got you, Scully.
You can't win when you start with the wrong assumption. Your logic failed
you this time.> He quieted her by grabbing her and kissing her passionately
on the lips. She broken free and glared at him. She knew he would only
interrupt her like that if he thought he had already won the argument.

He smiled, shook his head and said smugly "Conventional wisdom." He turned
her to face the screen. "You know this Oregon female. She's the fourth
person in her graduating class to die under mysterious circumstances."
Unwilling to back down, Scully took a defensive stance, arms fold and jaw
set tight. Mulder loved it when she did that. It gave him an excuse one
of his favorite tactics, one that always worked on her. He squared off in
front of her, and placed one hand on each of her shoulder. He tenderly
massaged her shoulders as he stared deep into her eyes. His hand wandered
down her arms, caressing her and pulled her towards him. He spoke in his
sexy tones "Now when convention and science offer us no answers, might we
finally turn to the fantastic as a pasusability." As his hands reached her
elbows , he stroked the edges of her breasts until she lifted her arms and
he unfolded them. He slid his hands to her wrists then guided her hands to
clasp behind his back, bringing her head to rest against his chest. His
arms encircled her and he gently kissed the top of her head. <Now THIS is
the fantastic turned pausable.> he thought.

Comfortable in his arms but not yet ready to give in, she continued her
argument as she gently nuzzled his chest. "The girl obviously died of
something. If it was natural causes, it's pausable that there was something
missed in the post mortem. If it was murder, it's pausable that there was
a sloppy investigation." He grinned and nodded at her refusal to accept
his views. < Some things never change. Scully's still a poor loser.> She
leaned back and looked up at his smug expression. She was determined not
to be dismissed. She pushed him back into his chair and leaned over him for
a change. His smug look turned to delighted surprise as her aggressiveness
aroused him again. She grabbed his tie and pulled his face close to hers.
She spoke clearly, slowly as if she was trying teaching him a lesson.
"What I find fantastic <is YOU> is any notion that there are answers
beyond the realm of science. The answer are there; you just have to know
where to look." She couldn't resist looking down at his groin to see if he
was paying attention. <Yup. I got his attention this time.> She pulled him
closer and gave him a quick kiss before pushing him back into the seat.
She let her hand trail down his chest and abdomen then brushed his
"attention."
Unswayed, Mulder got in the last word as he said slyly. "That's why they
put the I in FBI." <And you know what "I" in FBI that I mean> he thought.
He smiled mischievously and spun around in the chair, pretending to busy
himself with papers on his desk. "See you tomorrow morning Scully,
bright and early. We leave for the very pausable state of Oregon at 8 AM."

She thought <Fine, now he going to ignore me. All right you sexy shameless
flirt, we'll see just how 'pausable' this relationship can be.> She
started to leave the office, when he cleared his throat to get her
attention and held up two envelopes while still looking at the papers on
his desk. She returned and took a close look at the envelopes. They each
contained a key card to a suite at the Hyatt Regency near the airport. One
enveloped was labeled 'Fox Mulder' and the other had 'Dana Mulder' crossed
out, and was written over with 'Scully'. She took the one with her name and
slipped the other one into his shirt pocket. Scully blew a slow hot
breaths in his ear until he sighed and shifted his trousers. "See you in
the morning, AGENT Mulder." she whispered. "I'm looking forward
to....'working' with you." She nipped his ear lobe and dashed out of the
office before he could react.
Mulder sat there with an insane grin on his face pretending to work for
about five minutes. Suddenly he got up, grabbed his files and his jacket,
and ran out of the office, headed for the Hyatt Regency. He was hoping for
some long overdue "investigation" with the woman he had always considered
his partner, the one who always saw the invisible man who loved her.

Sure fine whatever. Just a fantasy based on some really bizarre
assumptions -
1. The Scully's in London -Sure why not. The timing is right, and right
for Capt. Sculley's post..
2. Mulder's violent outburst - He still tends to explode emotionally when
unnerved. Wouldn't he be more aggressive in his younger wilder days,
especial 1 or 2 years post-Phoebe Green.
3. Scully's innocence - she's only 20 at the start of the story. How
idealistic were you at 20?

I apologize for all the nastiness in Part 1 but nothing short of extreme
circumstance would have got them together then broke them apart so quickly.
No pedestrian love affairs in my stories.
