RATING: PG CONTENT WARNING: M/S Tension, UST, Skinner Angst? CLASSIFICATION: V, A Post One Son, Pre Arcadia SUMMARY: Skinner's motives and thoughts in assigning Mulder and Scully the Arcadian Falls case. Skinner POV... It's short. DISCLAIMER: Characters belong to Chris Carter and 1013 Productions No infringement intended. *** I'm sitting in my office, pondering the sight I witnessed only moments ago. There's a rift between Mulder and Scully. No, not one of those little arguements they have, over what to put on their reports, I know about that of course. It's not about their differing opinions... Not because Mulder is a believer and Scully a non-believer. It's something deeper than that. I can sense it. I can see it in her eyes. I can see the masked pain and hurt she's hiding. I can see him looking at her, looking somewhat guilty. I don't know what he's done this time, but I know it hit her hard. Getting the X-Files back hasn't even seemed to lighten their mood. They've come to my office several times in the past, and never have I had this sense of.. foreboding. That somehow Mulder has cut her so deep, that she won't forgive him. The relationship between them had always been astounding in my eyes. They can be frustrated with each other, for awhile, but in a matter of seconds they have forgiven, and forgotten they have even argued. This time it's different. This time he scarred Scully. God, she hides her emotions so well, it was a shock to see her looking torn. As if Mulder had taken every part of her, and crushed it. I don't want to be left in the dark, but I can't just prance into their office, demanding what's wrong with them. There has to be something I can do though. My secretary handed me a stack of files earlier in the day, ready to be assigned to the agents under me. There has to be an X-File in here somewhere. I look through them, most of them boring, when I find one that I think might work, though it doesn't seem like an X-File, but rather a murder case. Mulder and Scully can pose as a married couple for this case. Oh, what a cute couple they would make. It was perfect, it could work. They've been partners for so long, they have the chemistry. I know they love each other, they share a sort of unconditional love. I know they know they love each other, but have never discussed taking their relationship one step forward. Maybe somehow, someway, they will manage to find each other in a situation and finally take the step forward. Right now though, they need to forgive each other.. before anything can happen. I'll assign them this case, and they will come closer together. They might not think it's a X-File, but I'll find a way to make it look like one. I buzz my secretary. "Send Mulder and Scully to my office." I lean back in my chair, praying that after this case, the tension will ease, and that once again Mulder and Scully will be Mulder and Scully. Together. THE END. Author's Notes: I had this idea in my head for a long time, I had to get it out. I know it's late, but that's what vacations are for, to write XF Stories.
