She had woken up so many times with puffy red eyes and a tear stained pillow. She had lost her closest friend, after all, the one she had shared almost everything with. But that was two months ago. Her moral support was gone, for Mulder was her strength. Her cancer had worsend rapidly, and with no cure in sight, she lay in her hospital bed and waited for death to come for her. Margaret Scully was constantly at her bedside talking with her daughter, but she didn't understand what she was going through, no one did. She felt herself weakening, drifting slowly into the abyss. "Mom, go home. You need your rest," Scully whispered. Maggie smiled. "Yout right, Dana. I'm exhausted, I'll see you tommorow." she replied softly. She kissed her daughter's cheek and left the room. "I love you mom." Dana said. "I love you more, " Margaret replied. "I'll see you tommorrow," "yeah, tommorrow." It was minutes past midnight when she felt a presence in the private hospital room. He kissed her forehead and watched her open her dreary eyes. She smiled, and brought her hand to his cleanly shaven face. "Hey G-woman," he said softly. "I thought you'd never come back to me," she wispered. "Scully, I didn't want to leave you. I had no choice. Seems you can't just go on without me," She gave a half hearted laugh. "Go to hell," she joked. "Nah, they won't take me, I've tried," he retorted. "C'mon Scully. I've found a cure for you. You'll be free of this disease forever," he said. He lifted his partner out of her bed and cradeled her in his arms. She rested her head against his shoulder and he carried her out of the room. Together they went downstairs to the lobby and opened the doors to the outside. "Mulder, it's midnight, why is it so bright outside?" she asked wearly. "Don't worry Scully. You'll just have to trust me," "Of course I trust you Mulder, I always have," she wispered, and peacefully closed her eyes. Mulder chuckeld and carried his partner into the light. -end of story- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- feedback is totally welcome.
