Dedication: To Joey, for beta-reading and being a great friend, whom I missed terribly during my holiday. And for Gitte, who suggested the idea, thanks Gitte! My endless love 1 (1/1) Dana Scully parked her car in front of her mother's house. Her mother had asked her to come by, because she wanted to discuss something. The door flew open and her mother welcomed her. "Hi Sweetheart." "Hi mom, is everything alright?" She asked, worried that that was the reason her mother had invited her to come over for dinner. "Everything's fine honey, can't I just invite you for dinner every now and than?' Maggie grinned. "Of course you can." Scully smiled. Walking to the living room, her mother asked "How's work?" "Work's alright. We've been busy." Scully answered, already knowing what the next question was going to be. And yes, there it came "And how's Fox doing?" Scully blushed. "Mulder, mom, and I think he's doing fine." "You think?" Her mother's voice echoed in disbelief. "Yes mom, I think. I don't keep track on him every minute of the day." "Oh." That seemed to surprise her mother. Scully sighed, she had explained this to her mother a thousand times before. Somehow her mother didn't seem to understand that she and Mulder were friends and nothing more, or maybe she didn't want to understand. The problem was that the harder Scully denied any involvement with Mulder, the harder she found it to believe the lie herself. But, she also knew, that they would just stay friends. The fact that she was head over heels in love with her partner, didn't mean he was too. Why would he? She wasn't his type at all. "Dana?" Her mother interrupted her train of thoughts. "Huh, yes?" Scully looked as if she had seen her mother for the first time for the first time. Maggie Scully grinned, no matter what her daughter kept telling her about just being friends with her partner, she knew better. The look in her daughter's eyes when she talked about him told her more than enough, it was the look of a woman in love. The same look Maggie had seen in Mulder's eyes many times before. She wondered why those two were making things so difficult. Maybe they just needed a little help, a little push in the right direction. That's what Maggie was planning on doing the coming Christmas, she had found the perfect way. "Are you alright?" "Yes, I'm fine, why?" "I don't know, you looked so lost in your thoughts, I just thought...." "I'm fine mom, really, is there something you wanted to talk about?" "Uhm yes, are you going to do anything with Christmas?" "Aren't you home?" "I wanted to do something different this year. I'm thinking of going to Hawaii and I actually wanted to go with the whole family." "That sounds like a great idea. What did Charlie and Bill say?" Scully liked the idea, it would be the first time in a long time the whole family would be together again. They saw each other enough, but somehow somebody always seemed to be missing. "I talked to them and they have both agreed to come." "Great mom, count me in." Scully smiled. "I already hoped you would. You can bring somebody if you want?" Maggie offered suggestively. "Mom!" Scully yelled, blushing furiously. She knew exactly who her mother meant with somebody. "Okay, okay. It was only an idea." Maggie quickly said. She grinned, the first step of her plan was fulfilled, the next would be to convince Fox to join them. That was probably going to be a little more difficult, but she was sure that she could convince him with the right persuasion. LATER THAT AFTERNOON As soon as Scully left Maggie picked up the phone, to call Fox. "Hello?" After a few times he answered his phone. "Fox?" He didn't immediately realize who he was talking too. "Yes?" "Hello, Fox it's Maggie Scully." "Oh hello Mrs. Scully." Immediately after that followed by the concerned question "Is Scully alright?" Maggie smiled "Yes, she's fine, I'm calling, because I wanted to ask you something." "Oh," he waited for the rest. "We're going to Hawaii with the whole family, during the Christmas holiday and I would like to invite you to come with us." She waited for his reaction. It stayed silent for a moment, at the other side of the line. Mulder was doing some thinking. Going to Hawaii, together with Scully and her family? He had to admit, ever since he had started to realize he was head over heels in love with his partner, he had wanted to spend more time with her, besides work that was. And Scully in a bikini would be nice too. And it would be a lot better than spending Christmas alone in his apartment with one of his videos. But no, he couldn't. The fact that he was madly in love with her, didn't mean she was. She probably never would. What could she ever see in him? "Ehm, thanks for the offer Mrs. Scully, but ...." Maggie was prepared for that. "Come on Fox, it'll be fun." "No really, I think...." "You already have other plans?" She knew very well he didn't, Dana had told her herself. "No, but...." "Well, than why not? Isn't it better than spending Christmas alone?" "Well yes, but...." "Think of it. It'll be nice to spend some time in the sun, lying on the beach, just relaxing. "Well," he didn't have time to come up with more reasons why he shouldn't come, because she interrupted him again. "So, you'll come?" "I don't know Mrs. Scully, what did Scully say?" "I didn't ask her, but I'm sure she'll like it." "How about Bill?" Scully's brother wasn't exactly one of Mulder's biggest fans. "I'll deal with Bill." Maggie knew he was running out of excuses and she also knew he would love to come. "I would love to, Mrs. Scully." "Great! I'll let you know when I know more details. Oh and Fox?" "Yes?" "Don't tell Dana." "Why not?" "Let's surprise her." "Uhm okay." Mulder agreed. After that, they finished their conversation and hang up. A FEW WEEKS LATER FIVE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS Scully looked at Mulder, who was working concentrated. "Mulder?" He looked up from his computer "Yes?" "What are you going to do this Christmas?" "Oh, I'm going to spend it with a friend and her family." He hoped she wouldn't ask more, he had promised Maggie not to tell her. "Oh." Scully didn't ask any further, thinking that he had a new girlfriend, he was going to spend Christmas with. She felt a pang of jealousy. She had hoped he hadn't had any plans, so she could have invited him to come with her. She was sure something could have been arranged and her mother wouldn't have mind. "Have fun." She told him, turning back to her computer. Mulder looked at her, had he really seen a look of disappointment and jealousy in her eyes? Or was that only what he had wanted to see? Probably the last one he decided, wishful thinking. He also turned back to his work DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS WASHINGTON D.C. AIRPORT Maggie, Charlie and his family and Mulder were already at the airport. Bill and his family would take a different plane, so the only one they were waiting for was Scully. Mulder had been introduced to Charlie and to his surprise he really liked Scully's younger brother. He was nothing like Bill and they were getting along very well. Charlie and his wife Natalie had two children, a 4-year old son, Nicky and a 1-year old daughter, Jenny. While Mulder was talking to Charlie, Nicky managed to climb into Mulder's lap and fell asleep there. Mulder smiled, than looked at his watch for the 10th time in 5 minutes, a concerned look on his face. Charlie grinned when he saw Mulder looking at his watch again. "Relax Fox, Dana is usually the last one." That got him a look of disbelief from Mulder, since Scully was always the first one when they were traveling. But obviously her family members were even more people of the clock than she was. At that moment Scully came running in their direction. Mulder didn't see her coming, because Nicky had woken up and wanted to play with "Uncle Mulder." "Sorry Mom, I know I'm late, I..." She had gone to Mulder's apartment first, because she had wanted to say goodbye and wish him a Merry Christmas, but to her disappointment he hadn't been home. So now she was running late and on her way to the airport she had thought of all kind of excuses, traffic jam, traffic lights, car trouble. Everything would be better than telling her mother the truth, or she probably wasn't going to survive the coming days. But as she was about to start her round of excuses, Mulder turned around, with Nicky on his neck, who had decided that Mulder was his new horse. Scully's jaw dropped and she could feel her face turn red. "Mul..., Mulder?" She stuttered. "Hey Scully." He gave her one of his goofy grins. "Mulder, what are you doing here?" "Well uhm your mother invited me to come with you, I hope that's alright?" He looked a little worried, maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. Scully looked at her mother, with a look that said "Thanks a lot mom." Maggie just gave her a big smile. Scully wouldn't say it out loud, but she was also thankful that her mother had asked Mulder to join them. Maybe it would be good to spend some time away from work, maybe it.... , She told herself. Suddenly she realized Mulder was still waiting for her answer. "Of course not, it'll be fun, the more people the better." She quickly assured him. He looked relieved and rewarded her with another one of his smiles. She smiled back widely. Then they made their way to the boarding gate. Maggie handed everybody their tickets. "The plane has two to two seats." She explained, handing Mulder and Scully their tickets. Scully thought when she saw she was seated next to Mulder. "I want to sit with Uncle Mulder," came Nicky's voice from behind them. Scully waited for Mulder to answer that. He would probably agree, she thought. She hoped he wouldn't. He had to know how much she hated flying. "Why don't you go sit with daddy, I'm going to sit with Aunt Dana and than you can come sit with us a little bit later, okay?" The little boy pouted at first, than his face cleared and he grinned. "Okay." Mulder walked further, followed by Scully. "Thanks Mulder." He turned around and smiled. "What for?" "You know." "Not really, but you're welcome." He took her bag from her and put it in the cabinet above them. "You want to sit near the window?" He asked. "No thanks." She hated flying and sitting near the window only made it worse. Thank god for her, it was a calm flight. They chatted, Nicky sat with them for a while and before she knew it, it was time to land. Scully sat back in her chair, not looking very happy, when the plane started to make it's landing. Suddenly she felt Mulder's hand taking hers, squeezing it reassuringly. She looked up and he smiled at her. "Don't worry, we'll be down in a couple of minutes." He whispered. She silently thanked him with a smile. TWO HOURS LATER WAIKIKI BEACH HOTEL After picking up their luggage, they made their way to the hotel, with rental cars. Their hotel rooms were all close to each other. Scully and Mulder's rooms were connected with a door, as Maggie had said with a meaningful smile. Scully wondered if her mother was trying to tell her something. She had just put down her luggage when the door opened and Mulder came walking into her room enthusiastically. "Look Scully." In one hand he was holding a box of peanuts and in the other something that looked like wine. She grinned, he looked like a little boy, happy with his new toys. "Where did you get that Mulder?" "From my room, don't you have it?" She looked around and discovered some on the table in her room, together with glasses. "You want some?" Mulder asked. "You know the rules of the FBI don't you?" Scully said teasingly. He played innocence. "No, what?" "Partners aren't allowed to have fun in the same hotel room." "Want to try out what fun is? He quipped. "No thanks, I think I'll go with the wine." She said. "For now." "Okay, your choice." He opened the bottle of wine and handed her a glass. He raised his glass. "To a great holiday with a great friend." She blushed. "I'll drink to that." "Oh and Scully?" "Yes?" She sipped from her wine, enjoying the feeling, relaxing and making small talk with Mulder. "We're on a holiday, so we're not partners, just friends, okay?" "Deal." She wasn't going to argue with that. She liked it too much. LATER THAT DAY They were lying by the swimming pool. Bill and his family had also arrived, to Mulder's surprise he hadn't gotten any snide comments or remarks at all. Obviously Maggie had had a good talk with her son. The women were lying in the sun, the men and children were in the swimming pool. Maggie noticed how her daughter's eyes followed every move Mulder made. At that moment Mulder climbed out of the pool and walked into their direction. Scully quickly closed her eyes, pretending that she hadn't been looking the whole time. He stopped in front of her, taking away all her sun with his tall figure. "Coming in, Scully?" She opened one eye and looked at him lazily. "No, thank you, I think I'll just stay here." "Are you sure?" "Yep." "Really sure?" Now she opened both eyes, to see the look in Mulder's eyes. Uh oh, that look never meant much good. She saw a teasing glint and a big grin on his face. She tried to ignore it. "Yes, I'm sure, why?" That question was answered, when he quickly picked her up from her chair and jumped into the swimming pool with her. "Mulder!" She screamed, coming up for air. "Yes?" Again an innocent smile on his face, as if to say I'm going to get you for this." She promised. "Oh and who were you going to bring for that?" He started to swim away. "Me." She answered, swimming closer to him. "You think that'll help you?" "Yep." She quickly dove under, pulling at his leg. She didn't come far. His arms encircled her waist and with one move he pulled her above the water, turning her around. Suddenly they were really close, staring at each other, saying nothing. Hands started to move, heads leaning in closer, lips almost touching, when they were interrupted by Nicky's voice. "Look Uncle Mulder!" For as far as that was possible in a swimming pool, they jumped apart. Their faces turning red in a millisecond. Mulder quickly turned his attention to Nicky, who jumped into the pool, while Scully climbed out of the pool and made her way back to her chair. Her mother looked at her, amused. "You had a nice swim honey?" The question was asked a little too innocently. Scully's face turned even more red, but she just answered. "Yes mom." And closed her eyes. Hundred of things were going through her head. What if Nicky hadn't called Mulder? Would they have kissed? But why? She had always thought he wouldn't answer her feelings. Had she been wrong? Or had it just happened in the heat of the moment. Mulder, who was still in the swimming pool, was having the same thoughts. Could Scully really be in love with him, or had it just been the sun and the moment? What if Nicky hadn't called him? No, it was probably only wishful thinking. But what if....? It was as if they were finally able to let down their guards. Without the press of work and the X-files they were just like any other people in love. Enjoying the sun, relaxing and being in each other's company. Things started to change and maybe that was what they had been waiting for a long time. LATER THAT NIGHT DINING ROOM The children had had dinner early and were taken to bed, under a lot of protest. After that, the adults went down to have their dinner. Dinner was great, and since it was Christmas Eve, everybody was in a happy mood. Everywhere you looked people were laughing, chatting and dancing. The room was decorated with Christmas trees and mistletoe. Charlie and Natalie had already found their way to the dance floor. Bill also stood up and asked his wife Tara if she wanted to dance. "Want to dance Scully?" Mulder stood up and offered her his hand. Scully looked at her mom, not wanting to leave her alone, although she would love to dance. Her mother smiled. "Go ahead honey. I'll be fine." "Are you sure?" "Yes I'm sure, go dance you two." "Okay." Scully got up from her chair and put her hand in Mulder's. A spark of electricity went through her when their hands touched. They were on their way to the dance floor, when her mother's voice stopped them. "Dana?" She turned around. "Yes mom?" "You know the rules don't you?" Her mother pointed at something above their heads. Two heads looked up and turned red, when they realized what Maggie was pointing at. After all, what's Christmas without mistletoe? Scully expected a quick kiss on her cheek, when Mulder leaned down. He didn't. It was a quick kiss alright, but his lips closed over hers tenderly, for one moment enjoying the feeling, before he let go again. She stood there in shock, all sense had just left her mind, when his lips had touched hers for the first time. All she could think of was the feeling it had given her and how she wanted to feel it again. Mulder was quicker in finding back his senses. "Come on Scully, let's dance." His hands moved around her waist, pulling her closer, her arms found their way around his neck willingly. They made the perfect couple, as they started to dance. My love there's only you in my life The only thing that's right My first love you're every breathe that I take You're every step I make And I, I want to share all my love with you No one else will do And your eyes, they tell me how much you care Oh yes you will always be my endless love Two hearts, two heart that beat as one Our lives have just begun Forever I'll hold you close in my arms I can't resist your charms And love I'll be a fool for you I'm sure You know I don't mind Cause you you mean the world to me Oh I know I've found in you my endless love Oh and love I'll be that fool For you I'm sure you know I don't mind And yes you'll be the only one No one can deny this love I have inside I'll give it all to you my love My endless love As the song ended they automatically leaned in closer, eyes connected the whole time. Mulder rested his head against Scully's forehead for a moment. "I love you Scully." He whispered, his voice full of love and emotions. "I love you too." She smiled. His lips moved over hers slowly at first, getting more passionately soon. They forgot everything around them, lost in their own world, all they saw was each other. Maggie, who hadn't been paying attention, because she had been talking to somebody, looked up, when she heard laughing and clapping. A big smile spread over her face when she saw her daughter and Fox. It was the best present she would get this year. Minutes later they finally realized where they were. Letting go slightly, but not completely. They smiled at each other, they had finally been able to find, what they needed the most. Their endless love. The end
