She opened her eyes and looked at the silhouette in her bedroom doorway. His features were washed out from the light flooding in behind him but she knew who it was. He closed the door behind him and they were plunged into darkness. "I know what we had agreed to," he began, "but I can't deny what I need." Scully sat up and looked at the patch of darkness where she knew her partner stood. "Mulder, we can't keep doing this." "Sure we can." His tone was light, trying to relax her. Trying more to convince her. "Mulder-" The gentle warning was apparent in her voice. Mulder's stomach tightened with apprehension and longing. He had to make her understand. He had wanted his voice to be serious but it appeared closer to desperate, "I can't ask anyone else for this." "I know." Scully had to fight to keep her voice level. The wave of emotions this man brought to her was floating too close to the surface for her liking. Smooth, cool, rational Agent Dana Scully was still a woman beneath all her strength. And Mulder was a man who touched her heart in a way she dare not try to describe let alone classify. It couldn't be classified, she realized. "Please Scully. I know you hate to accept it but you need this as bad as I do." She was silent so he went on, "Is it so wrong for you to need something Scully? With everything we go though we can at least allow ourselves this." By the end of his plea he was beside her bed. She looked up at him uncertain. Within, she could feel her resistance fading fast. What he was asking her for, she wanted to give it to him. And wanted him to give it back to her. Now that they had become accustomed to the darkness she could see the longing in his eyes. He was right; how could she deny him? "Alright," she whispered, a smile beginning to form. Mulder smiled back at her, immensely relieved. He took off his tie and sat on the bed beside her. She was reclining lazily now, as if all her previous protests did not exist. He kicked off his shoes as his hands glided down his work shirt, leaving open buttons in their wake. Scully turned to look out at the crescent moon casting its blue silver glow over the city. She felt the mattress rise as Mulder stood to remove his slacks and took that as her cue. Shifting onto her side, she pulled back the blanket for her partner who slid under them and settled against her. He slid one arm beneath her neck and pulled her even closer with his other hand on her hip. Surrendering to him again, Scully leaned against his warmth, lifting her face to nuzzle his neck. Her eyes slid shut when she felt his lips press tenderly against her forehead. A soft sigh escaped her lips. Sleep quickly claimed them both. Maybe she could agree with him on this one thing. Maybe, from now on, she could relax and accept the comfort of her partner's arms. END Yeah, I know, really short but I'm glad I finished it! Thank you for reading it!
