Then her heard it was a crash coming from the apartment next to him. He got up walked to his kitchen to get a glass of water when he heard the crash again. It was the apartment that Padgett used to own. He had heard that someone had moved in there, a few days ago. He had been out of town and hadn't met him yet. After what happened last time, the minute he the chance. Then he heard the door next to his apartment open. Might as well do it know, he thought. He opened his door and turned to see his new neighbor. What Mulder saw surprised him. It was women between the ages of 23-26; rusty brown hair, beautiful green eyes, and was only a little shorter than him. She was leaning up against her door holding a big brown box. She looked lost in thought, and didn't notice anyone else is there. "Hi," Mulder said, softly. She literally jumped when she heard the voice. She turned to she him and she had a hint of fear in her eyes. She stared at him in a frozen panic. Realizing his appearance had startled he, he decided to introduce himself as quickly as possible. "I'm Fox Mulder." He extended a hand, "I'm your neighbor." He gave a small smile and pointed in the direction of his door. When she saw it had been open she took a deep breath and composed herself. He did live her, she thought to herself and realize she shouldn't be scared, on of the other people in the building told her he was a FBI agent. She took his hand a shook it. "Alexis Morgan," he nodded, "Sorry about the noise, everything is still in boxes and I get frustrated easily when I'm tired. I should have gone to bed a while ago, I have to get onto Eastern Time. "It's okay. Where are you from?" She seemed to be relaxing so he was going to be nosy. "San Francisco, well the bay area anyway?" She new he was trying to get information out of her, but it didn't really seem like it was for just the sake of getting to know her reasons, but for some other reason. She had heard rumors of the last tenant and got the picture. If he's going to interrogate me I might as well push back a little, "You work for the FBI right?" she said in an innocent sounding tone. "Yeah, how did you..." "People talk." She smiled and placed the box down by her door. "Are you a ASAC, SAC, Special Agent, or just support staff agent?" He was surprised she knew so much, "A Special Agent," he said cautiously, "How..." She smiled bigger this time as if she was going to laugh, "My Father was a FBI agent in San Francisco. I grew up hearing a sorts of things, I was the only one on my block who memorized the entire FBI hand book." They laughed softly. "What do you do?" satisfied with her last answer. "I'm a child psychologist, well just starting." "Private practice?" "No-I not to fond of talking to late out in the hall, do you want to come in?" He looked at his watch, he realize it was Saturday and he didn't have to be at work tomorrow. He thought there is no harm in getting to know Alexis "Weren't you going to sleep?" Shook her head, "Not tired." He nodded reached inside his door grabbed his keys and shut his door. He followed her into her apartment. "Home sweet home. Sorry it's kind of a mess." He looked around, it different from the last owner. The apartment was well furnished. It had a lived in feeling. The furniture seemed used, old, but cozy. She had closed the door and put the box she had been carrying in her kitchen. Mulder was standing in the space between the entranceway and living room. There were a few boxes stacked up alone the wall by the bedroom but otherwise it was very neat. He also notice that her furniture was set up the same way his were the desk facing the window the couch on the wall she shared with her apartment, the coffee tab. He shrugged it off. "Go a head sit down." She said from the kitchen, "Do you want something to drink?" "Ice tea if you have it?" he sat down on the gray soft couch. "Your in luck, I just made some." She came out carrying two glasses of ice tea handed one to Mulder as she sat down in the chair a cross from him. "What where did you go for college?" trying to start off where he had left off. "Stanford, I stay close to home, aye. What's your specialty?" "I'm a profiler." "Ah." someone who knows my field. "Why did you move?" "Independence." Mulder laughed he thought she was joking. "No, it's true. As much as I love my dad I can't stand the way he tries to protect me. And then there's Andy, my older half brother, he's a pain in the ass." She laughed. Mulder was not used to being around laughter; he found it refreshing and sweet. They talked for another hour before Mulder had left. They talked about their families and he had told her about Samantha and even his views of what happened to her, Alexis didn't judge him or laugh, she took the whole thing seriously. She believes in the paranormal and government conspiracies but no more than a healthy habit. She didn't go searching for them -- she let the ideas play in her head. He even talked about Scully, a friend that he could always trust. He told her nothing concrete but Alexis guessed how he felt. Then they talked more about her and her family. Her mother had died when Alexis was three and her Father and brother, who was currently a FBI agent, had raised her. She said they tried to protect her from everything and she moved to get a way from it. She had sort of wanted to take after her father but never had the courage to. He had also found out that she was 25 and had a fondness for science fiction especially Star Wars, and Star Trek. They were different but Mulder somehow felt close to her. *********************************************************************** Mulder was on his couch, not able to fall asleep. He kept thinking about what an Alexis talked about. He kept thinking about Alexis. Did he start to fall in love with her? No, he couldn't. He kept thinking about how she was different than Scully, not in a bad way but she was different. She wasn't Scully. There was only one Scully in his life and she was the one he loved and would always love. He than fell fast asleep knowing Scully was the only women for him. ________________________________________________________________________ Please send me Feedback.
