This is just a short little didy that I came up with while taking the dog
out. It has nothing to do with my series that I'm working on right now,
Couldn't Live Without Her. (And, yes, I am still working on that! Have
patience!) I don't know if I'll do anymore with this. Maybe, if I get
inspired by a Muse. Write me and let me know what you think.

Chris Cross is mine. (Actually, he's my cousin.) Neither of us own Agent
Scully or Queequeg. No infringement is intended.

Nice to Meet You
by Angela Tallman

As I drove up to the house I saw her standing in the driveway. Her long
cotton dress was billowing. She had nothing to protect her from the chilly
December wind but a light cardigan. Her firery red hair was pulled up into
a bun. Most disturbing, though, was the yellow retractable dog leash that
dangled near her sandaled feet.

I got out of my car and walked to her. "Agent Scully?" No reply. "Dana?"

She looked up at me, suprised to see someone there. "Hello."

I had heard around the Bureau rumor mill that Agent Scully was a little
strange, if not all together mad. But her work in the X-files division was
superb. Her rather eccentric theories of the paranormal had "solved" many
cases but never was there any concrete evidence to back her up. Still she
always seemed to come out on top.

They say that she was once a great scientist. After her partner disappeared
over a year ago her belief in science to explain things was thrown out. She
was possitive that her partner had been abducted by aliens. The Bureau
found her openness to extreme possibilities a mit discomforting, and that's
where I come in. I was assigned to "debunk" Agent Scully's work where ever
possible being that I was a true blue scientist.

"Hi Agent Scully. I was assigned to be your new partner. I know it's
Saturday, but I wanted to meet you. I've heard so much about you. I'm
terribly sorry if I disturbed you."

She looked at me warily for a moment, deciding whether I was to be trusted.
Then she sighed and held out her hand. "Nice to meet you."

"I'm Chris Cross. Um, what do you want me to call you? I've heard that
you're sometimes called just Scully?"

At the mention of her name, a far away look came to her eyes. Then she
shook her head as if to shake all her thoughts onto the ground so she could
just walk away from them. "No. I'd rather you call me Dana if you don't
mind, Chris. Nobody's called me Scully in a long time. At least not to my
face anyway."

"Okay Dana. If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing out here?"

"I was just thinking..."

"Oh. Why are you holding a dog leash?"

"Queequeg. Oh, I was just remembering a case I did a few years back. I was
going through a box of old memoralbilia and then I thought I heard something
outside. I guess I just didn't put it down."

I wasn't completely sure I believed her. She seemed a little strange to me.
"Can we go in the house? It's rather cold out here."

"Sure, follow me."

"What are you doing tonight?"
She looked up, suprised. "I don't know. Probably cleaning out a closet or
something."
He grimaced. "Gotta get a life, Scully."
