Sorry this so short! Summary: "Mulder, you are not alone." ************************************************************************************************* "You are not alone." She says to him, as she lays her hand on her stomach. He is leaning against his desk, and is staring at the fish tank. He begins to speak but stops before he can make a fool of himself. "Put out that fire in your head Mulder. Just stop the charade, and ask me." "Is he, is she...he or she..." "I don't know." she says with a gentle smile. "Is it, I mean, mine?" he says, shuffling his feet like a little boy who just told the red hair girl he liked her at recess. "Mulder.... You knew it the moment you saw me. I know that you knew." She says walking towards him. "I... wanted to be. I didn't want to speculate anymore." He pauses and places a hand over her stomach. He gently rubs and then whispers "Hello." She smiles gently at him and they settle down on the couch and begin talking, talking for the very first time in months. The light outside grow dimmer as they order Thai food and eat, and then they order Chinese for dinner. They don't leave the couch for hours. Scully doesn't want to have to be away from him more than nessesary. Although, she soesn't think it would be nice if he came and watched her go to the bathroom... She returns to the couch and his lids are heavy. She suggests that she go home so he can get some sleep. She says that he has been through the ringer the past couple of months. And although she doesn't want to, she says that she knows that he could use some time alone. Then he takes her hand, and she gets a look of confusion on her face. He leads her toward the bedroom. "Scully, put out that fire in *your* head and lay with me tonight." He smiles, as he takes her in his arms and lays her down. She is still unsure. "I'll be here when you wake up. I promise." he says and kisses the top of her head. They fall asleep to the sound of each others breathing. When she wakes up, she is still in his arms, and the sun is shining brightly on her copper hair, and he says, "You are not alone, laying in the light." *END* You are not alone Laying in the light Put out that fire in your head And lay with me tonight. -Not alone Patty Griffin
