Intro: With all the hoopla about Mulder and Scully kissing in the movie and on the show, and with all the 'shippy' episodes planned for the season, a hot topic is how/when/where might M/S finally 'do it.' With a head cold trapping me in the house for several days, I explored this concept from several different angles. As you read, remember - Be kind, I have a fever. And it was taxing experience for them both. Just the day before, the pair stood before AD Kersk once again and were reamed out for some kind of violation of policy. The matter was so trivial even Scully couldn't take it seriously. It was minor enough that no further action was deemed necessary but just to make a point, they were both suspended for two days without pay. Mulder spoke with Scully as they walked from the office. "You know what they're trying to do? They want to break my spirit. And they want you to resent me instead of helping me." "Mulder, if I don't resent you by now, I never will." Scully replied trying to cheer him up. Mulder cracked a smile and said, "You noticed they stopped trying to separate us. They think if they put the thumb screws on, you'll leave. Like you did before." He cut off his words and quickly apologized. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way." Scully just sighed. "No, it's true. I was ready to quit. But not to get away from you. It was because I couldn't stay with you." Mulder nodded with a big grin. "So what are you thinking, Mulder? I know that look. It means you have an idea you know I'll hate." Mulder placed his hand on her back and escorted her towards the door. "See Scully, we are a match made in heaven. Now we just have to prove it to them." "Mulder what are you talking about?" Scully asked, thoroughly confused. "Once they realize you won't abandon me, they'll have to discredit us both." Mulder announced. Scully looked doubtfully at him. "Look, they've pressured you, censured you, even tried to kill you but they've never discredited you." "What about when I lied about your death?" Scully asked. "I discredited myself." "Skinner and I shared the blame. You were acting as my agent in good faith. And when I came forth I released you of any responsibility." Mulder clarified. "And you were dying of cancer so some leeway is allowed." "So I'm a paragon of truth. What does that have to do with you?" Scully asked. "I'm the paragon's best friend." Mulder said as if made everything clear. Scully looked a bit uneasy. "Mulder, we're partners and we trust each other with our lives but we're not really friends in the usual sense." Mulder nodded enthusiastically. "I know. That's what we need to change. From now on, we are best friends. We need to start doing things together apart from work or my private investigations." Scully frowned. "The FBI discourages fraternization among co-workers." "But a recent Superior Count ruling determined that unless it can be proven that it creates a conflict of interest, it's none of their damn business." Mulder chimed in. "Don't you see Scully? It's the perfect way to tell them to butt out of our personal life." Scully thought for a moment. "Mulder, do you have a personal life?" "I do now." Mulder grinned. __________________________________ So now they were on suspension and away from the office. Usually Mulder would be in his apartment digging away at old files or trying to find new contacts but today he joined Scully for an outing of her choosing. He expected a boring lecture or recital but instead he found himself being serious out-matched in a game of racquetball. Scully beamed as she prepared to serve for game point. "Mulder, I can't thank you enough. My racquetball partner moved away two years ago and I haven't had a chance to find a new one." Alert for the serve Mulder snapped, "Don't try to pysche me out by saying you haven't played in two years. Just serve the damn ball." Scully grinned as she served and drew Mulder into a sucker shot that caught him on his weak backhand. Mulder growled with frustration but for the first time he saw Scully really enjoying herself. In all the years of working together, she had never been just plain happy. He realized he really liked what he saw and when Scully teased him about losing he just nodded and followed her off the court. He noticed several men eyeing her as she walked by so he moved closer and put his hand on her shoulder. Scully laughed a bit and pushed his hand off. "Mulder... you're all sweaty." "What's the big deal if I touch you?" Mulder said innocently. "You're just as sweaty." "Hardly." Scully rolled her eyes. "Besides, it's my sweat." Unexpectedly Mulder grabbed her and gave her a playful hug. "Yeah, but best friends are suppose to share." She laughed and struggled for a bit until she realized he was gently kissing her neck. He suddenly let go and quickly said, "I'm sorry. I just..." He shrugged unsure of what just happened. Scully gave a cautious smile. "That's all right, Mulder. No offense taken." Then she sighed and added, "Well, except for the sweat. Now I really have to take a shower. I'll meet you in lobby in 15 minutes." Mulder nodded and headed for the Men's Locker room while Scully went to the Ladies. Two of the club regulars who knew Scully casually stopped to talk to her in Locker Room. "Dana, who is that gorgeous thing you were playing with out there?" one asked. Scully raised her eyebrows. "That? That's just Mulder." The other woman said "You mean 'he's-just-my-partner-we-work-together' Mulder?" Scully nodded as if it that were obvious. "No wonder you never let him out. That is one partner you don't want to lose." Scully shook her head briskly. "No, you don't understand. He's just Mulder." The first woman replied, "That man is not 'just' anything. You said he was cute but he goes way beyond cute. Did you see those eyes? I would die for any man to look at me the way he looked at you with those eyes." Scully continued to deny the implications. "Mulder and I are just partners at work." "Dana, there's a flaw in your logic. This is not work." The second woman replied drolly. Scully had no intention of explaining her life history to these women. It was hard enough for her to understand. "We just decided it was time to actually get to know one another, way from work." "And you don't see where that's leading? Not that I would mind one bit." Scully headed for the shower. "We're just friends." "Then what was that kiss?" they asked in a parting remark. "Good question." Scully said quietly to herself. Mulder had kissed her before but only in times of stress, when she needed comfort. Never just for fun. Of course there were men who threw kisses around casually to every pretty woman but Mulder never struck her as that type. Maybe he just got a little carried away in playing 'best friend' that he got confused. She promised herself to be more careful in future about getting physical with him. Some how the thought made her take a deep breath. Mulder waited nervously in the lobby. There was no doubt in his mind that Scully was an attractive desirable woman. But she was still his partner and friend. He had no right to express his affection in ways that implied anything more. Not that he hadn't spent nights fighting the urge to imagine her as something more. It was one thing to get off on some porno star's antics but fantasizing about a woman he had to face everyday was just plain stupid. The few times he did give in, he felt ashamed of himself for days afterward, long after the short lived pleasure faded. He decided he'd make it up to her by proving he was a gentleman at heart. No more close physical contact. He sighed to himself as he realized that for the first time, in the several times he'd kissed her, he actually tasted her. The memory of her salty sweetness lingered in his mind until Scully came out to join him. "So what are we going to do now?" Mulder asked cheerfully. "You're going home." Scully answered curtly. Mulder looked a little hurt. "Are you going home, too?" "No. I'm going shopping." Scully said matter-of-factly. "Good, I'll go with you." Mulder chimed in. Scully opened her mouth to protest but Mulder stopped her short. "Look, I set my whole day aside to spend time with you. The least you could do is let me tag along." "Mulder, I thought you'd enjoy the racquetball but I know you'll hate shopping for woman's clothes." Scully argued. It was hard to disagree that he had little inclination to shop for woman's clothes but he really did want to spend some more time with her. "You know Scully, I like way you dress. It's conservative but it really looks good on you." Scully sighed heavily. "All right. Come on then but don't say I didn't warn you. And just to make this even more of an event, we're going to the Mall. I don't have time to run around town." Mulder grouched under his breath. He hated malls and she knew it. But he went because at least they would be together. The next outing would be his choice and he was already thinking of places to take her that she'd hate. Shopping wasn't as bad as he expected. It was a weekday so the Mall was nearly empty. He and Scully got to chat about things they never talked about at work - favorite foods, old hobbies, best friends. He got to watch as Scully modeled clothes but he wasn't much help. She always looked great as far as he was concerned. Several sales women commented how sweet of him it was to take time to go shopping with his girl friend. After the third store, he gave up trying to explain they were just friends. At their last stop, as he waited for Scully to change, his eyes wandered across the sales floor and suddenly stopped on a black silk nightgown. He got a lump in his throat imagining Scully wearing it. His reaction was more obvious than he realized as a sales woman approached him and said, "She would look cute in that." Cute was hardly the word he'd use. More like irresistible. Just the thought was making him excited. The sales woman noticed and moved in for the kill. "I'm sure we have it in her size. We can send it to your place so you can surprise her later." Mulder tried to say "No I can't. It's not appropriate. We're just friends." Instead he just continued to stare at the garment and handed the sales woman his credit card and driver's license. She quickly ran the transaction and told him it would be delivered the next day. Before Mulder realized what he had done, Scully popped out of the dressing room and paid for her selected items. Like everything else she did, Scully was a very efficient shopper and they were done in just a few hours. "That's it for being buddies today, Mulder." Scully proclaimed as she dropped him off. "The only thing I have left on my agenda is a Medical Society Dinner. So unless you want to listen to a boring talk about intestinal parasites and their treatment..." Mulder grinned. "You're just a party animal, aren't you? Sorry but every friendship has to draw a line and mine ends right about there." "Thanks for today Mulder. It really was fun." Scully said sincerely. "So are we on for this weekend?" Mulder shrugged. "Why wait? We're still on suspension. How about tomorrow?" Mulder thought maybe they could go jogging together or something. Scully agreed to stop by in the morning and sped off. As Mulder watched her leave, he felt a strong desire to follow her, to stay with her...always. Suddenly, he shook his head trying to clear such foolishness from it. he reminded himself. But the image stuck and he spent the rest of the evening trying not masturbate to the memory of her taste, her taut compact figure and the feel of her in his arms. Scully was only slightly less distracted. She left the Medical Society dinner early and spent the evening looking over the clothes she had just bought. There was something exhilarating about modeling them in front of Mulder. The way he stared at her, looking over her body in way he would never dare to do at work. It was almost as if he could see right through the clothes, not just to her naked body but to her naked soul. Scully picked out the most conservative of her new clothes and put them on in front of the mirror. Then as she imaged Mulder watching her, she performed a slow and seductive strip tease. All the while, he would watch her with the same expectant stare but growing more anxious by the second. After she snapped off her bra, exposing her bare breasts and erect nipples, she imagined approaching him and coaxing him to remove her panties himself. She closed her eyes and sighed as she imagined his large strong hands sliding over her hips, pulling away the silky fabric, wet with her sweat and desire. Suddenly she felt horribly ashamed and exposed. She grabbed her robe and stepped away from the mirror. Scully scolded herself. She could fantasize about all the movie stars and fashion models she wanted but Mulder was her partner and trusted friend. To debase him to nothing but a sex object was unthinkable. True, he did kiss her but that was an innocent playful kiss, not a prelude to some sorted affair. Scully went to bed in tears, confused and frustrated, wanting Mulder so much as a lover but needing him so much as a friend. The next day Scully arrived at Mulder's apartment bright and early. She tried to conceal the puffiness around her eyes from crying the night before but as sharp as ever, the moment he saw her he asked if she was all right. Of course she answered, "I'm fine." Scully brushed off his concerned look and cheerfully asked what he wanted to do. He grinned and tossed her a basketball. Scully stared at the ball and bounced it on the floor twice then said, "Your kidding?" Still grinning, he shook his head and opened the door. "Mulder, your eight feet tall and I'm a midget. You'll decimate me." Mulder grabbed the ball from her and jogged down the hall, dribbling the ball. "Scully, you're so competitive." he mused. "After the whuping I got yesterday, I wasn't planning on playing against you. You're my partner for a pick up game." He held the elevator door open as she caught up with him. Scully stood there with her arms crossed giving him 'that look'. "OK, fine, whatever. Then who ever we play against will decimate US." Mulder grabbed her shoulder and shook her teasingly. "Hey, don't underestimate yourself. Or me." Scully looked over at his hand and he suddenly pulled it back, smiling self consciously. Scully sighed and took the ball, studying it like a piece of evidence. "No, Mulder, I'd never underestimate you." Since it was a Friday, the court was empty when they arrived. It gave Scully sometime to practice her rusty form, with some coaching from Mulder. Finally some of the 'four-day-work-week' crowd showed up. Mostly junior executives and white-collar technicians, they all gave Scully the once over before teasing Mulder about being desperate for a partner. Mulder hotly replied, "She's the best partner I've ever had and together, we can beat the crap out of any of you bozos." Answered with a round of 'ohs' and 'ahs', Mulder accepted the challenge from two men who stepped up from the crowd. Scully noticed they were both about the same age as Mulder, slightly shorter but much more muscular. In fact, one looked like a professional body builder. Mulder saw her studying the men and the confidence faded from his face. The 'body-builder' guy took advantage of Mulder's mood and approached Scully. "You may have the body and the brains, but I don't think you have the moves to back up your loud mouth partner." Scully snatched the ball from Mulder and snapped back, "I hell I don't. You're going down, Mister." Mulder perked up again and added, "Now you're in trouble. You got her pissed. Last time I got her pissed, she shot me. And she LIKES me." The game got off to a rough start for Mulder and Scully. She was nervous and made some bad passes. Mulder took her to the side and suggested she think of it as 'a really weird stake out' and the ball was vital evidence. Before long they managed to rally back. Scully recalled some moves her dad taught her so she could play against her brothers. She took the other team and Mulder by surprise and scored the winning points. As was tradition, the losing pair bought drinks for the winners at the convenience store across the street. Sitting on the curb outside the store, Mulder guzzled his iced tea while Scully sipped her spring water. The 'body builder' guy sat next to Scully and offered her some gum, which she accepted. "Look, it's been a while since I've been so thoroughly trounced by someone I was sure I could beat. You're quite a woman." Scully blushed at the remark but before she could respond, Mulder was leaning over her challenging the guy. "Hey... What do you think you're doing?" He shrugged dumbly. "I just thought I'd talk to her. You said you two were just friends so what's the big deal?" Mulder growled, "Right now, she's with me. So back off." The man left without an argument shaking his head at Mulder's mixed messages. Scully gently touched Mulder's back and whispered with concern, "Mulder?" Mulder sat back with a frustrated huff. "I'm sorry Scully. I don't know what came over me. I had no right..." Scully took his hand in her and said, "This isn't working out as you planned. It's too hard to be friends, Mulder. We mean too much to each other. Without the work to focus on, all we have is each other." There was sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach as she prepared to draw her conclusion. "We have to keep our relationship strictly professional." Mulder nodded silently. His great idea had totally backfired. Instead of becoming her 'best friend' he had made himself her worst liability. The last thing she needed was a jealous, horny partner who frigged himself silly every night thinking about her. Resigned to the circumstances, they quietly headed back to his apartment. He offered her the shower which she accepted gratefully, even though she knew she should have left right away. Even for her, ending this new phase of their relationship was difficult. Mulder sat in his living room depressed and despondent. But even in his sullen mood, he couldn't help but think of her so near and vulnerable. He could easily sneak into the bathroom and catch just a glimpse of her. He tried to banish the thought but fighting the urge only made him more excited. Mercifully, she finished showering and he hid in the kitchen until he heard her announce 'it was his turn.' He dashed into the bathroom before she could see him in his unabashed state of arousal. Once he was in the shower with the water on, he resorted to relieving his tension by the only means left to him. His cold soapy hand was a poor substitute for anything she could offer. But the truth was she could offer him nothing but memories of a brief taste or touch. Scully gathered her things in the living room, wondering if she should wait until he came out of the shower. What could she say when he did? Just then, there was a knock at the front door. She accepted the delivery in Mulder's absent but noticed the package came from the same store they had been at the day before. Odd since they only sold women's clothes. Her curiously overpowered her common sense and she opened the package enough to peek inside. It was a gift wrapped box bearing her name. Unable to turn back now, Scully unwrapped the box and found the night gown Mulder had bought for her. She touched the smooth fabric and sighed heavily. They shared more than a purpose and a mission. They shared a deep dark secret fantasy of one another. Her tears fell onto the never-to-be-worn garment. The sharp ring of the phone wrenched her back into reality. After a few rings, Scully picked up the phone. "Hello?" "Agent Scully? This is AD Kersh. What are you doing at Agent Mulder's apartment?" the gruff voice asked. "We were playing basketball." she replied truthfully. "What's happening?" "It's just as well you are there." he sighed. "As of now, you and Agent Mulder are back on active status. We have a hostage situation and the chief negotiator insisted on bringing in you two. Meet up with a police escort at the precinct station in 15 minutes." "Thank you, Sir." Scully replied automatically. "Don't thank me. I don't want the blame if this thing blows up in your face." he replied rudely. Scully hung up the phone with a slam then banged on the bathroom door. "Get out and get dressed! We're back on duty! And Kersh is certain we're going to screw up." Mulder instantly popped his head out of the shower and smiled at her. Paraphrasing her earlier remarks, he responded, "The hell we are. He's the one going down." _______________________________________ Mulder and Scully arrive at the office building under siege and were escorted to the command center. A very serious looking woman approached them. "Agent Mulder, Agent Scully. Glad we could find you." Mulder recognized her immediately as the Agent in Charge of the Duane Barry hostage incident. "Agent Kazdin. What's the situation?" "No aliens this time. Disgruntled federal employee, James Cooper, who says his co-workers have all been replaced by robot android look-alikes." She replied dryly. "He specifically requested you as if he knew you had some kind of experience in these things." Mulder took off his jacket and nodded. "Well, technically the term 'robot android' is redundant. And previously the co-workers were more like zombies but I think I can handle this." Kazdin rolled her eyes and sighed. "So that's why I called you. No one else would touch it with a ten foot pole." Scully cleared her throat. "So why did you request me as well." Kazdin gestured towards Mulder. "No one else would touch him with a ten foot pole." She flashed a brief smile and continued. "Seriously, I have the full medical back ground on Cooper and the co-workers he's taken hostage. Because of your background, I'd like you to review them for anything we may have missed. We may go by the book, but I'm willing to rewrite the book if the situation demands it." Mulder made contact with Cooper while Scully reviewed the files. The man had 'secrets' he wanted people to know before 'they' took him away like they did with the others. Scully pointed out that Cooper had a history of paranoid delusions which had been successfully treated until a recent bout of drug related problems. Mulder nodded but added, "Just because you're paranoid..." "...It doesn't mean they're not after you." Scully finished. They smiled at each other. This was the essence of their relationship. Working together, filling in the missing gaps in each other's logic. Mulder played a game of 'what if' with the hostage taker. He finally convinced him that hurting the 'androids' only put the lives of the real people in danger. Cooper argued that this was the only way anyone would listen to him. Once again, Mulder offered himself in exchange for the hostages. Cooper agreed but only if there were no listening devices or hidden cameras. Just to make it easy, Mulder was to come out wearing nothing but his underwear. Cooper warned that if he found any hidden device, he would rip it out and any body part attached to it. "I think we should take his threat seriously." Mulder remarked self consciously. Kazdin was hesitant but Mulder insisted Cooper was still behaving rationally according to what he perceived to be real. "I can change his reality." Mulder argued. "He trusts me because I listen. And I can be honest with him. One thing he will understand is that no one can hear the words of a dead man." Kazdin frowned. "No, that'll be the next case we work together. All right, strip and get ready. Try to get him to let you call us at regular intervals otherwise we'll call every 5. If he keeps any of the hostages, he can't be believed and we're moving in 10." "Uh... Agent Kazdin, there's only one more problem." Mulder mumbled. "I don't have any underwear on." Scully and Kazdin rolled their eyes. "I was in a hurry and..." The situation was quickly remedied with a towel taken from the ambulance standing by. Scully spoke to privately Mulder just before he left to make the exchange. She had her doubts about this being a good idea but there was no changing his mind at this point. "At least no one can say you're not man enough to go all the way for the naked truth." He smiled then saw the concern and caring in her eyes "I just wish I were man enough to go all the way for you." Without thinking he quickly kissed her on the lips and started back towards the door. Scully was more worried for his safety than ever. That was not the kind of attitude anyone should have going into a life or death situation. "Mulder, you do realize I love you?" Mulder nodded slowly. "I do now." he whispered then stepped outside. The exchange went smoothly. The negotiation team watched as Mulder crossed the plaza behind the cover of a riot shield, then held open the door as the hostages scampered out one by one. When the final one reached safety across the plaza, Mulder stepped into the building and out of sight. Then began the anxious waiting game. The first call came after 5 minutes. Mulder quickly said, "Don't call. He doesn't want to be interrupted. He'll let me call when he's done." So the wait continued. The office was isolated in such a way that any attempt to insert a covert observation team was impossible. Scully helped to interview the hostages to determine the man's mental stability and made a strange connection between them all. They all had a history of substance abuse. In and of itself it meant nothing and all indications showed their best move was to wait. Then Scully's cell phone rang and she nearly jumped out of her skin. "Scully, it's me. Don't tell anyone else." said Mulder's voice through the phone. "Just listen... I convinced Cooper I could trust you not to let the cat out of the bag. I think I know what's happening here. I'm sure you already notice something odd in the medical files. Don't let any of the hostages leave and get three men -the department supervisor, the assistant supervisor and the office manger - down there in the command center. I'm going to call in 15 minutes. That's how long you have to get them there. I'm going to sound totally out of it and you have to convince them the only way to get us out is breaking down the south wall." Scully whispered, "Did he give you an ultimatum?" "No, a confession." Mulder replied. There was moment of silence then he added, "I love you, too." And hung up. Without a second thought, Scully did as Mulder asked and rounded up the men. The call came just as he promised. Mulder ranted and raved about how they were going to all die at the hands of an evil force of body snatching robot androids unless he and Cooper stopped them now. Kazdin sighed. "Mulder's lost it and we're out of time. We'll have to take them by force...Immediately." Scully quickly intervened. "Agent Kazdin. 'Robot android?' That's not Mulder talking." Scully pointed out that Mulder made have be forced to ingest hallucinogens by his captor. "If we allow this to degrade into a gun battle someone's going to get hurt. Probably Mulder since he's running around in nothing but a towel." "So what's the alternative? Talk fast." Kazdin liked Mulder and didn't want him hurt but she needed to make a decision quickly. Scully grabbed the blue prints. "The south wall. We can break through the wall with the vehicle battering ram. They'll be at the front door. We'll take them completely off guard." The Department Manager argued violently against the destruction of property but Scully pointed out they had 'an agent in distress' trapped in the building. Kazdin authorized the use of the battering ram despite the continued protests which had escalated into threats. Scully made sure no one left the command center during this critical operation. When the ram came through, the SWAT team that followed found Mulder calmly sitting behind a desk holding a gun on Cooper who had his hands raised in surrender. "It about damn time." He announced totally un-surprised. "My feet are getting cold." Then he pointed to several packages that seemed to drop out of the damaged wall. "Oh look...what's that?" he said with a smile to his prisoner. As it turned out, the entire office was involved in a scam involving counterfeit documents and large payoffs. Nearly everyone in the office had a history of drug abuse which the managers exploited to secure their cooperation. The secret wall safe contained all the records and transactions as a safety precaution against anyone 'double-crossing' them. But when they discovered Cooper's history of paranoid delusions, they isolated him and tried to get him out of the office. That's when he flipped out. While talking to Cooper, Mulder was able to calm him and filter out the truth. But Cooper still wanted 'everyone to see the proof', hence taking down the wall. With damning evidence for all to see, several of the former hostages had already started to confess and arrest charges were being drawn just as fast. Mulder sat beside Scully in the command center with a blanket wrapped around him. In the confusion, they lost track of his clothes. Agent Kazdin was talking to AD Kersh on the phone, saying if he wasn't willing to use Mulder and Scully to the best of their talents she would ask her supervisor to request their transfer to her division. She thanked Mulder and offered to replace his suit if he sent her a bill. Kazdin whispered to Mulder just as she left, "If you ask me, I think she (pointing to Scully) hid them." Mulder just smiled and nodded. As they walked back to the car, Scully said sincerely, "Well, Mulder. You managed to pull it off again. Congratulation." "WE did it, Scully." Mulder corrected. "I couldn't have done it without you. No one else trusts me like you do. No one else knows me as well as you. And EVERYONE knows were partners. Even the hostage crisis team and the local paranoid nut case." As Scully adjusted the driver's seat of his car, she looked over at Mulder trying to get in the passenger's seat without losing his blanket or towel. She laughed lightly and he growled at her. "You think this is easy? Let's see you play FBI woman in your underwear." Mulder bit his tongue realizing the implications of the remark. But Scully didn't laugh nor did she look ashamed. She just kept smiling. Mulder decided to take a chance. "Actually, I'd love to see you playing FBI woman in your underwear." Scully tugged at his blanket so it draped over her arm as it reached across his bare chest. "I know just what to wear. The black silk nightgown from the store we went to yesterday. The one they delivered to your place today." Mulder sagged in frustration. "I'm sorry Scully. I'm not trying to be an asshole. It just comes naturally." Her hand gently caressed his chest. He suppressed a deep groan. "Mulder, I'll not upset about the nightgown. I'd love to wear it for you." she whispered softly. "Scully," he gulped trying to maintain under the pressure of her attentions, "I thought we decided we had to keep our relationship professional?" "That was before I realized what that meant...for us." Scully shifted so she could slide her upper body under the blanket and rest against his chest. "Face it, our standard of professionalism has never been the same as anyone else. Your passion is as much a part of it as my logic. And it all hinges on 'the truth.' The truth is Mulder, I love you and I can't imagine being with anyone else." She gently ran her tongue along the base of his neck as he squirmed with arousal and nervousness. "Scully, when I said I love you, I meant it. I love everything you are and everything you stand for." Mulder panted, as he stole a kiss. "But I also lust after your body so badly it hurts. It's driving me crazy right now. But... but I can't cheapen you like that." Stroking his chest lightly, she asked "What makes you think intimacy cheapens a person? Selling it, forcing it on someone, holding someone hostage with it - that's what devalues the person and the act. But intimacy shared as an expression of mutual love and devotions is a pure and honest as a chaste kiss." She kissed him lightly on the cheek to make her point. Mulder began to allow himself to respond to her touch, stroking her arm softly. "You didn't learn that in catechism." "No I learned that from my best friend." She soft kisses became more intense and her hand wandered towards the towel. Reaching between the folds she slowly stroked his already erect shaft. "Look, hard evidence. Just what I need." she purred. Mulder nearly screamed at the sensation of her touch and tried to rock back in his seat. The car began to buck under his sudden movement. "Scully," he gasped "If you're going to do that we really need to get out of here." "Do you want this now?" Scully quietly sighed as her ministrations became more intense. "Oh yeah!" Mulder cried. "But what if someone sees us?" "I'll tell them to butt out. There's no conflict of interest. You are my interest." Scully unleashed a wild passion Mulder couldn't even have imagined. Barely covered by the blanket, she lowered her lips around the head of his erection. Mulder gave up trying to restrain himself since it was obvious Scully had. He watched as her mouth enveloped him in a deep loving kiss. He'd had blow jobs before but this was something completely different. Scully was making love to him; the part of him he'd been ashamed to admit needed her. Just the thought was enough to send him over the edge. He came in a shuttering orgasm but was careful not to force himself on her. It would always be her choice. He just thanked his lucky stars that HE was her choice. "Agent Kazdin!" called the paramedic as they prepared to leave the scene. "I found Agent Mulder's clothes in the back of the ambulance. Do you know where I can find him?" Agent Kazdin glanced over at the car in a deserted side street, gently rocking back and forth. "I'll take them and forward them to his office. I don't think he'll be needing them tonight." Once Scully was satisfied that Mulder was beyond holding back any more, she quickly drove back to his place. Mulder didn't even bother getting dressed but Scully slipped on the nightgown and put her street cloths on over it. Then she acted out her fantasy strip tease to an appreciative audience of one. When she was down to the gown and her panties she leaned into Mulder as he sat on the couch and pulled his hands to her hips. He didn't require any more suggestions as he nervously slid down her panties, while his face pressed against the silky material covering her breasts. Stepping out of the panties, she pressed even closer to him then lower herself into his exposed lap. He seized her hips and anxiously positioned her, looking into her eyes frequently. He needed to see the love and approval in her eyes before he went any further. He saw even more than he hoped for. More than approval, she needed him. Mulder was so lost in her gaze he almost didn't realize he was already sliding into her but soon the physical sensation surpassed any conscious thought. The slick gown slid along his chest as Scully rocked her hips pulling him deeper within her. Desperate to have all of her, he pulled off the gown and captured her right breast between his lips while his hand massaged the left one. Scully ran her fingers through his hair and kissed him gently, even as her body thrashed wildly against his. She called his name between moans and sighs of pleasure then suddenly words formed that sent a chill down her spine as she said them. "Our world will never be the same." "But it will be ours. Always." Mulder's confident answer quieted final reservations within her, just as his passions ignited her. Her body convulsed in a powerful climax that pulled him over with her. They realized the deafening cry in their ears was the sound of their own unrestrained passion. Then the room became suddenly quiet except for the heavy panting breaths. Mulder spoke first. "Wow!" was all he could manage. Scully laughed and teased, as she still caught her breath, "After all that, that's all you have to say?" Mulder smiled and sank back on the couch. "After all that, that's all I can say." Scully stretched out over him, gently kissing his hypersensitive flesh. "That's what friends are for." she whispered softly. "Best friends." Mulder embraced her in his arms, joined as one. "Don't you mean partners?" It was a perfect moment for them both. They had their work. They had their dreams. And finally, they had each other. Filling in the missing gaps in their lives. A match made in Heaven. END ________________________________ ________________________________ This got a bit longer than intended simply because I realized Mulder and Scully can't have a relationship unless the X-Files, or at least their work, is a part of it. So I had to sucker them back into a case before I could get the big finish. Like the bit about shopping for women's clothes? (Think - David Duchovny as a transvestite in 'Twin Peaks') ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////// THE PERFECT MOMENT- SETTING 2 - IF WE DIE TODAY Pursuing yet another vague lead without the knowledge or consent of their supervisor, Mulder and Scully were in a rented cargo van when they were forced off the road and plunged down an embankment in a pit quarry. They were both knocked unconscious as the vehicle tumbled down and came to a sudden stop in the soft dirt. As they regain consciousness, they realized they were being buried alive. The dirt was already too deep to open the windows or doors to escape. There was little hope of rescue because no one knew they are even missing. . "At least the van is up right." Scully commented as she rose from her seat. Clicking on the dome light, she surveyed the situation "I hate to sound negative but I think we're dead." Rubbing his bruised head Mulder replied, "Come on Scully. Don't hold back. I can take the truth." "Judging by the sag on the roof, there's a heavy layer over us already." She pushed against the head liner to illustrate her point. "If we do manage to get out of the van, we'll never be able to tunnel our way up." "I suppose you already tried the cell phone." Mulder asked hopefully. Scully held up her phone. "Too deep. No signal." Mulder looked around cautiously. "If they keep loading on the dirt is this thing going to collapse on us?" Scully sighed with resignation. "I don't think so but we'll most likely suffocated before that happens." Mulder unclipped from the driver's seat and joined Scully in the rear of the van. "I don't suppose it helps any to say I'm sorry for getting you into this mess." "I'm not a priest, Mulder. I don't take confessions." Scully shot back tersely. Mulder pouted and hung his head in rejection. "Mulder, I was just joking. It's not your fault. I came of my own free will." "I can't believe it's ending like this." Mulder shook his head. "We're so close." "So close to what? The Truth?" Scully challenged. "Which truth, Mulder? The truth they believe or a truth even they don't understand. The lies run so deep and twisted, I'm afraid there is no simple answer." "It's all a moot point now, I suppose." Mulder lamented tapping the roof. "If I could go back in time and start over, I would chase after the history first instead of following their trail of breadcrumb clues and lies." "If I could go back, I wouldn't have let you go so far out there." Scully joined in. "I thought that's what you've been doing." Mulder grinned and took her hand. "You did everything you could, Scully. If you had pushed me any harder I would have left you in the dark and stopped listening to you." Scully slid closer to him and said, "I don't think I would have allowed that." She thought silently for a moment then asked, "Mulder, have you ever wondered why we keep working together despite all that's happened." "I need you. To keep me honest, to keep me grounded." Mulder replied without hesitation. "I suppose you stayed because you understand that. You value what I'm trying to accomplish. You want answers and you want justice, just like me." Scully nodded slowly. "That's all true. But there is something else. Something we've avoided facing for years. Something we'd never openly confess to one another." Mulder gazed into the soft blue eyes and spoke just as softly. "Oh...you mean the fact that we love each other." Scully nodded silently. "Well...yes, there's that." Mulder drew his arms around her and kissed her softly on the lips. Scully returned the kiss as if they had always been lovers then settled snuggly in his embrace. "When did it happen, Mulder? At what point did friendship and compassion turn into something more?" "I don't know. Years ago." Mulder sighed. "But if I had to pin point any moment when I realized how much you meant to me it was when Duane Berry took you. Part of me was missing without you." Scully kissed him again. "When I went after you in at the SETI site in Puerto Rico. Up until then I could have believed we were just friends, partners." Mulder laid back, pulling Scully on top of him. She wrapped around him in a perfect fit. "So what have we been doing for the past 4 years? Have we been consciously avoiding these emotions?" "You're the psychologist. You tell me." Scully sighed and she reached up to turn off the dome light. "There are a lot of reasons, I suppose." Mulder rambled with an almost detached manner. "Avoiding any distraction from our search, mutual respect for our individuality, insulating each other from our own problems, fear of rejection and failure." Kissing her again he teased, "At least we know it wasn't because we were afraid of breaking the rules." Scully laughed lightly. "Maybe at first, until I realized that didn't stop us any other time. But it was a good excuse to keep our distance. This may sound odd but I think we wanted to avoid debasing our feelings for one another with a crude physical relationship." Mulder chuckled and said, "I know exactly what you mean. Courtly love, pure love, from the heart not the glands." They tightened their embrace and kissed deeply from each others lips then separated with a long sigh. There were several moments of silence as they clung to each other in the dark. Mulder cleared his throat and whispered, "Scully ...Dana, we're probably going to die right here in a few hours, when the air runs out." She murmured an affirmative. "Is it selfish to want to make love to you at least once before we die?" "I was wondering the same thing." Scully replied quietly. "Mulder, I know if we make love now then die here together, we'll never have time to regret the choice. But what if we don't die? What if by some miracle we are rescued?" "Are you saying if we make love, it means you've abandoned all hope?" Mulder asked sadly. "No, I'm just asking if we're doing it because we love each other or because we have nothing else to lose?" Scully's voice was clearly straining, almost of the verge of tears. Mulder responded with actions instead of words. He sank his tongue between her lips and lavished every surface with the tip. He was already full aroused and by shifting her slightly, his firmness pressed against her lower abdomen. She was breathing in short gasps as his hand pulled open her blouse and gentle caressed her breast. She felt his other hand tugging at her waist band trying to slide down her pants. In what seemed like an instant, they were naked and locked in a lovers embrace. Scully rested against his manhood, holding back the final joining. Doubt and guilt cooled the hot desire for a 'crude physical relationship'. Mulder was almost beyond words as his groans and movement urged her to continue. Once unleashed, the need to have her was greater than even the need to survive and he could think of nothing else. Scully was certain he was merely consumed by nothing more animalistic lust and broke way. "Dana, wait..." cried an unfamiliar desperate voice. Mulder grabbed at her carefully, afraid to lose her in the dark. He rolled on top of her to restrain her but it was clear he was no animal. Even so, his voice cried in desperate need for her love. "If we live until tomorrow, I'll make love to you tomorrow night and every night after that. We can't go backwards. We can't hide truths we know are real. Even our own truths." Scully felt his hot panting breaths against her cheek and every inch of his uncovered body trying to press against her. "But is it just an escape? A betrayal? A surrender?" Her body quivered with fear of the unknown and desire for the unrequited. Mulder's soft rich voice flowed from his lips without a second thought. "It's what you've always demanded... Proof, evidence that I love you and that I'll sacrifice everything for your love in return." Like a magic key, his words opened her heart and silenced the doubts forever. Scully willingly welcomed her lover's passion and slowly he penetrated the last barrier between them. The sensation was so intense Mulder almost came immediately. Her heat and love engulfed him completely. Scully held him close and stilled her own body to give him time to cope with the new reality of being her lover. Gradually and carefully, he began the long slow withdrawal followed by a deep and powerful thrust. Scully moved in perfect time, heightening the effect until he lost any sense of reason or purpose except to love her. Their cries and moans went unheard by the rest of the world. Although they knew every gasp stole moments from their life, they also knew each thrush and each sigh gave them a small piece of a life together that they might never share otherwise. No words were spoken as their bodies joined in total union, one climax shared by one soul. At that moment they both realized that what they feared was never a true threat. This wasn't a 'crude physical relationship' It was the joining of spirits they had always hoped for. Exhausted and sated, Mulder weakly tried to move away to relieve his weight resting on her. But she held him in place, not just with her arms but with the supple muscles lining her vaginal walls. Mulder let loose a tremendous moan and instantly knew he wasn't going anywhere. He tried to tell her how incredible she was but all he could manage were more moans. She understood him none the less and continued the gentle internal massage, in rhythm with his sighs. Before long he was hard again within her and he tried to thrust against her. But she firmly held his hips in place as her deep muscles made love to him. Once he realized what was happening, he surrendered control to her completely. It was the final bit of proof she demanded and he offered it willingly. In moments, the issues of control and proof vanished from their minds as his body answered hers in perfect sync. Once again they climaxed as one, joined at the soul. This time Mulder made no effort to move away from her but rolled over still intertwined with and within her. The air was already heavy and they panted not just from exhaustion but from a real lack of oxygen. They were dying but Mulder needed to say one last thing before they were forever silent. "Dana, whether we die today, or tomorrow or a hundred years from now, I love you." Scully already felt the lightheadedness and dizziness of oxygen deprivation, combined the overwhelming aftermath of making love to Mulder. But she understood and believed his every word. "I love you too... Fox." She smiled weakly and said "No, you're still Mulder and you always will be. I fell in love with Mulder. And when they find us, let us be together so they have the proof you've shown me - that we are one soul, one life." The dark quiet filled the van as the two whispering breaths became one sound, joined in unison. Gradually, the one breath drew deeper and slower and finally stopped... __________________________ Mulder's eyes snapped open to the bright sunlight as a voice inside his head screamed to get out of the car. The van was perched on the steep quarry wall as a loader dumped more dirt and rubble over them. The door was already jammed closed and the van was starting to slide down. He still had a chance to dive out the window but he realized Scully was unconscious in the passenger seat. Mulder grabbed his cell phone and dialed '911'. He barely had a signal but he shouted to the operator his situation and location. She repeated it just before the van slid down and he lost the signal. Mulder banged his head against the side window and lost consciousness again. As they regain consciousness, they realized they were buried alive. I can take the truth."... _________________________________ Two hours later a rescue crew responding to a frantic 911 call, discovered a van buried in fresh dirt in an abandoned quarry. Luckily the dirt wasn't very deep and the crane on site was still operational. The first order of business was to see if there were any occupants in the van and to render aid if need. The rescuer cleared an area by the rear window and peered in. Seeing what looked like a body, he carefully smashed the window and pulled it clear of the frame. He disappeared from sight as he dove in. Within moments he popped his head back out and called for the paramedics to bring oxygen. The rescue crew chief asked about the condition of the victims. The rescuer looked back to make sure his victims were still ok then looked up to his chief. "There's two victims, male and female. They didn't appear to be breathing when I found them but with the fresh air and a little shaking and they came 'round. Must not have been out very long. They're kind of banged up but no other injuries that I can see." Looking back again he added, "And I can pretty much see everything." The chief raised an eye brow. "Well, they're naked and they we're... uh ... 'together' when they passed out." The paramedic handed him the portable oxygen unit and small hand from within the van grabbed it from him. He ducked back in and after a few moments stuck his head out. "She says she's a doctor and can handle it. He's still pretty groggy. Look, since this van is stable right where it is, can I give them a few minutes to... uh...compose themselves before they come out?" When Mulder and Scully finally emerged they were fully 'composed'. Wanting toavoid a back lash from the FBI, Mulder concocted a story that he and Scully were 'making out' when the van rolled in the quarry. He further speculated the dirt dumped over them was just someone illegally disposing of construction rubble. Looking at the van he joked that he was glad he took out comprehensive insurance. Convinced there was no foul play afoot the rescue crew left with another great story for the books. That left Mulder and Scully alone to wait for the tow truck to pick up the van, which had been mostly unburied by the crane operator. While Scully as glad to be alive and just as glad not to have to face the AD about this one, she had an uneasy feeling about what had transpired. "Mulder, why didn't you say anything about calling 911." Mulder looked sheepishly at the ground and sighed, "Would you believe me if I said I didn't remember making the call?" "No." she replied flatly. "Why didn't you tell me?" She had a sinking feeling that he had deliberately deceived her but after all they had been through she refused to believe he was capable of such an act. Mulder exhaled heavily. "The truth is... at first I didn't remember. Look I got knocked out twice in just a few minutes. My brains got a little scrambled." "I understand that. But then what?" Scully said softly. "It wasn't until after we admitted we loved each other that I remembered making the call. Even then I wasn't sure anyone understood me." Mulder confessed. "That's when I asked if you wanted to make love." Scully slapped him and shouted, "Mulder, how could you! I don't believe you could do anything so despicable!" She moved away to make some distance between them. "Scully... wait... listen. " Mulder insisted "I asked if it was selfish to want to make love to you before I died. We could have died today. We could die tomorrow. Or any time for that matter. Don't you understand? We only have now." "But why didn't you tell me? Why did you let me believe I was going to die?" She could barely hold back her tears with her anger. "Because you are going to die...someday. You may as well face it. I had to." Mulder cautiously reached out to her. When she didn't move away, he slowly wrapped his arm around her. "But your not going to die alone. I'll always be a part of you." He kissed her gently and felt her open up to him again. "I wanted to tell you that when you were dying of cancer. But I couldn't. So I tried to keep you from dying instead. Today I realized that I can't save you from death forever. So instead, I gave you the perfect moment of life and death, when the only thing that matters is you and me... together." Scully turned in his arms and kissed deeply to thank him for his gift. Her intensity took his breath away and he almost staggered when she finally pulled away. "Mulder, did you mean what you said about making love to me everyday?" Mulder smiled and kissed her quickly. "I meant every word of it but after what you did to me today, I'm not sure if I'm up to it." Scully beamed with an unexpected shyness. "I'm not sure I could do that again without the threat of death hanging over me. But as you say, we could die at any time." Mulder felt an awakening arousal as she pressed against him. Nervously he tried to distract himself from losing control. "You know, even though we used more oxygen having sex, we probably saved as much by relaxing more afterwards... and we didn't keep talking which wastes a lot of oxygen..." "Mulder, stop wasting oxygen." Scully whispered just before pinning him against the side of van. One hour later, the tow truck driver found the Mulder and Scully in much the same away way that the rescue team did. But this time they were both breathing quite well. Heavily in fact. A perfect moment to celebrate life. END ___________________________ ___________________________ Hope the flashback bit didn't throw you off too much. I didn't actually plan it that way but I wanted the impact of dying together without actually killing them. I realized they came to the conclusion they were going to die rather hastily but I didn't want this story to get too long and drawn out. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////// THE PERFECT MOMENT -SETTING 3 - KNOCK, KNOCK (Loose script format) One night in Dana Scully's apartment.... KNOCK! KNOCK! (at her front door) SCULLY: Who is it? FROHIKE: (in a whisper) It's me. (Scully opens the door and he's standing there holding a bouquet of flowers.) SCULLY: (Sniffs the flowers then frowns) Not tonight. I have a fatal exception error in my homefun.dll file at address 00EA5. (Frohike sulks and leaves unsatisfied.) 10 minutes later... KNOCK! KNOCK! SCULLY: Who is it? SKINNER: (in a whisper) It's me. (Scully opens the door and Skinner grabs her and gives her a passionate open mouthed kiss.) SCULLY: (breaks away breathless then frowns) Thank you, but not tonight. I have three autopsies to review, one case report to finish and 2 dozen expenses to justify. (Skinner squares his jaw and grunts heavily then leaves unsatisfied.) 10 minutes later... KNOCK! KNOCK! SCULLY: Who is it? KRYCHEK: (in a whisper) It's me. (Scully opens the door and Krychek has what appears to be a vibrator in place of his artificial hand. He's leering at her and brushes back his hair.) SCULLY: (Lightly fingers the vibrator then frowns) Not tonight. I think they're watching me and besides Marita called and... (Krychek dashes out apparently very excited and only temporarily unsatisfied) 10 minutes later... KNOCK! KNOCK! SCULLY: Who is it? JEFF SPENDER: (in a whisper) It's me. (Scully opens the door and he's carrying what looks to be an effigy of Mulder's head on a pike) SCULLY: (strokes the fake head and frowns) Not tonight. Your mommy's calling. (Throwing away the pike, wanders off whining for his mommy, unsatisfied and clueless) Scully walks around the apartment. There is a setting for a romantic dinner for two, complete with candles, soft music and champagne. She double checks the place settings and waits until... 10 minutes later... KNOCK! KNOCK! SCULLY: Who is it? CSM: (in a whisper) It's me. (Scully opens the door and he's standing there with a box of chocolates in his hands and a cigarette hanging from his lips.) SCULLY: (checks the label on the box and frowns) Not tonight. (She clears her throat and points to a sign on the door which reads 'Thank you for not smoking'.) (Sourly he crushes his cigarette on her carpet then lights another. Mumbling something about life being like a box of chocolates, he throws down the box and leaves unfulfilled, bitter, rejected and unsatisfied.) 10 minutes later... KNOCK! KNOCK! SCULLY: Who is it? CHRIS CARTER: (in a whisper) It's me. (Scully opens the door and he standing there with his arms full of colored paper scripts, highlighters, white-out, and Post-it notes.) SCULLY: (Eyes the huge pile of scripts marked 'Season 10' and frowns) Not tonight. Surf's up! (CHRIS drops everything in the hall and runs away, laughing all the way to the bank...uh, I mean beach.) Scully sighs and picks up the stray items left in her hall way by unsuitable suitors. After a quick trip to the dumpster, where she ignores a disembowel Stupendous Yappi, she returns to her apartment and waits until 10 minutes later... KNOCK! KNOCK! SCULLY: Who is it? MULDER: (loudly) It's me. (Scully open the door and Mulder is standing there empty handed looking very worried.) SCULLY: (Smiling and acting bored) What is it tonight? Alien abductions? Government conspiracies? Killer cockroaches? MULDER: (nervously taking her hand) No Scully. Tonight it's about us. SCULLY: (leading him to the couch) Then you picked the perfect moment to say something. MULDER: (still nervous) I realize I've acted like an asshole almost the entire time I've known you but you have to know I care about you. (Scully nods passively) Well, it's more than that. I love you and I can't stand the idea of you being with anyone else. I finally realized the only way I can expect you to always be there for me is to let you know how much I love you. (He pulls her near and kisses her on lips.) SCULLY: (wrapping her arms around him, sighing innocently) You don't know how long I've waited to hear you say that. MULDER: (showering her with kisses) I know...years... SCULLY: (checking her watch behind his back) Well actual about an hour... MULDER: (perplexed) Uh? Nevermind just as long as we're together now. I don't know what's going to happen to us but I'm sure we'll figure something out. SCULLY: (Leading Mulder to the prepared table) Why don't we talk about this over dinner? We'll work out something. MULDER: (Eying the table suspiously) Uh, Scully...? Did I miss something? SCULLY: (Smiling seductively) No Mulder. You are the SOMETHING. The next morning 10:00 AM, Scully's Apartment KNOCK! KNOCK! SCULLY: (Slipping on Mulder's shirt) Who is it? AD KERSH: It's me! Kersh! I'm checking up on you and Mulder. You both called in sick. MULDER: (Opening the door, dressed in nothing but Scully's robe) We're just fine, thank you. Just taking a personal day. Now blow off so I can get back to bed. (He slams the door shut.) (Behind the door, Kersk can hear giggling, growls, and furnature moving around.) KERSH: Agent Scully! Don't think I won't report this! I've had this place under observation for months... (Suddenly from behind he's grabbed by Skinner and Krychek, with CSM looking on.) CSM: I believe you've gone far above the call of duty. We admire that in a man ... but not in this case. I think we'll take that report NOW. And please give all the names of your informants to Mr. Krychek. He'll see to their...payment. (Kersh is briskly ushered outside by the three to a waiting car manned by Spender in short 'sissy' pants, Carter in a wetsuit and Frohike with a paperbag over his head.) Inside Scully's bed room, Mulder and Scully are tangled under the ruined sheets, no visible clothes on their body. They kiss long, deeply, and passionately then Scully lays her head on Mulder's bare chest. Both look VERY VERY satisfied. END ______________________________ ______________________________ No, no I don't think Scully's "that kind" of woman but after all she is a 'knock' out and she can't wait forever for Mulder. Well, she can wait an hour at least. Why is she waiting for Mulder to come to her instead of going to him? Get serious...she's the one with the real bed. (Personal Note: My boyfriend has a futon mattress on the floor; I have a Queen sized bed. Where do you think I'd rather spend the night?
