I am such a nocturnal person, and since I always get my best story ideas at night I keep a spiral by my bed. Well, I couldn't sleep and ended up hand-writing this whole story by flashlight. Special thanks go out to my betas D. and Angie. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "The center of dying, The heart of the pain The rose in the bottle, The thorns in the bottom The stars surround me, The cold astounds me" -- 'Forever December' Tabitha's Secret ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Sleep alludes me as it has so many nights before. I toss and turn, trying to find a comfortable position, before I settle in on my right side. I shiver and squeeze my eyes shut as I wait for the sheets to heat up around me. As the cold ebbs away, the scientific and practical part of my brain registers the fact that it is only my body's heat triggering the electric blanket that is making me comfortable. I quiet those thoughts and suddenly you are here, spooned up behind me, keeping me warm. Your hand rests heavily on my hip and your knees press gently against my calves. You prop yourself up and look down on me. My hair has fallen across my cheek; your hand leaves my hip to brush it back from my face. You dip down and gently nuzzle my neck, dropping a soft kiss here and there. I find myself shifting slightly in an attempt to give you greater access. This amuses you and you pull back to look down on me again. A smile plays on my lips and I hear the small pop of your lips as they break into a wide, toothy grin. I bite back a girlish giggle at the vision in my mind's eye. You dip back down suddenly and drop a kiss high on my cheek, just below the eye. I turn my face towards you, and you kiss my forehead and other cheek. A kiss lands on the tip of my nose and I prepare to meet your lips with mine. I'm surprised and frustrated when you skip down to my chin instead. Those feelings are soon forgotten as you trail kisses along my jaw until you are back where you started. I can feel your warm breath against my neck and a shiver runs down my spine. You know how that tickles me. You pull back once again and your hand comes to rest on my shoulder. It slides smoothly down my silk covered arm and finds its way to my stomach. It travels under my pajama top and lies on my quickly warming skin. You splay your fingers out in an attempt to cover as much area at once as possible. My own hand rests just above yours. If I moved it ever so slightly, I could caress your skin as you gently caress mine. I hold back, enjoying this impromptu massage. You slide your hand down until it rests on my abdomen and your thumb draws circles around my belly button. It should tickle, but it only serves to further relax me. My breathing becomes regular, and sleep finally beckons. You lay your head near mine and gently pull me closer until my back comes into contact with your chest. I want to be closer still, so I turn in your arms to face you. The cold sheets shock me back into reality. My eyes snap open and, instead of your face, they focus on the lamp beside my bed. Sleep abandons me again and I sit up, turning my attention to the clock. The red numbers proclaim it to be 3:48 AM. I have to get up in less than three hours. I gather up my comforter and move to the rocking chair set up in my room. I curl up as best as I can with the heavy blanket wrapped around my chilled body. Shivering, I gaze out the window and the loneliness surrounds me. Though I know it is emotional torture, I need my sleep. I let my eyes slowly drift closed and I beckon you back again. I want you back. Fin December 21, 2000 Start time: 3:20 AM End time: 4:15 AM (Psst. send feedback and visit my site at http://www.geocities.com/saddledreams . making certain you sign the guestbook.)
