Happy birthday chica, here's a little fluff!!!! Author's Note: Thanks to Aimee for beta reading this for me. The best birthday I ever had was my 18th. Now you might think that it was because I felt that rush of independence, but I must admit I didn't feel any different than when I had gone to bed as a 17- year-old the night before. You also might think that it's because I felt becoming an adult gave me a free pass to go wild like Missy did, but I was still rule-abiding enough to know I couldn't do anything too crazy until I was 21. No, the reason it was the best was because that's the day I fell in love for the first time. It had started out as a pretty standard birthday. My mom woke me up at the exact moment I was born, 5:43... I always was an early riser. My dad called to wish me happy birthday and apologize profusely for being out to sea on my birthday. I told him it didn't matter but he owed me a father-daughter- outing when he got home. And my siblings went out of their way not to fight with me, which was hardest for Charlie since we always fought even though he was who I was closest to. At noon a couple of my best friends came over and took me to my favorite restaurant and we ordered enough food to make ourselves sick and talked, joked, and laughed loud enough to annoy everyone in the restaurant and our waiter. I got mostly books and music, some of which I would keep and some I was very glad came with a gift receipt. Again, pretty standard stuff. That is until I decided I needed to go for a walk and get out of the house. She was about half-way down the block of the street they lived on in base-housing when a dog came bounding out of no where and practically knocked her over in his eagerness to greet her. "Blue!" a voice yelled out as it neared where she and the dog, who was pretty much lying on top of her now, had landed. "I'm so sorry," the voice said as he attempted to get the dog to move and finally succeeded. "It's fine," she responded huffily but grudgingly accepted the proffered hand he had extended. He tugged her off the ground effortlessly and for the first time she got a really good look at him. She blushed when the first thought was that this stranger's dog could run her over whenever if it meant that she got to look into those hazel eyes. "Are you sure you're okay?" he asked again, still concerned, but she thought she noticed something in his gaze shift. "Positive." And that was when she, Dana Scully, met and fell in love with Fox Mulder. *** 5 Years Later Every birthday after that was spent together and he only forgot once, a mistake he quickly realized should never be repeated. The fifth year they were together was special however. They had spent 6 months apart due to an exchange program in England he had signed up for. It was taking a toll on both of them and their phone bills. When the phone rang early that morning she had expected it to be her mom but was pleasantly surprised. "Hello?" "Hey, babe," he answered, his voice scratchy from lack of sleep but with the note of happiness he always had in his voice when they spoke. She was wide-awake now. "Hey. I wasn't expecting to hear from you this early." "Do you want me to call back later?" he teased, already knowing the answer. "No." They talked for a good fifteen minutes but he didn't mention her birthday once. When he hung up, promising to call again later, she was on her way to being annoyed. The only thing that stopped her from calling back was the knocking on the door. 'Oh, well. I'll yell at him later,' she thought and went to answer the door. She opened the door, putting on a fake smile for whoever it was but it quickly turned into a real one. "Mulder!" She was so excited she didn't even care how much like a high school girl she sounded; it had been months since she'd seen him, she was allowed to regress a bit. She'd completely forgotten that she was mad at him and jumped into his arms. "Hey, I was in the neighborhood so I thought I'd stop by," he said after a couple minutes of greeting each other. She punched his arm for his troubles. "That was a terrible trick on the phone." "Ahh, but I wouldn't have gotten such a welcome if I'd clued you in." For extra measure, to ensure that he was forgiven, he gave her the puppy-dog look. She didn't fall for it but let him get away with it anyway. "So what are you doing here?" "Well..." he pulled a box out of the backpack he had slung over his shoulder, "I figured I'd better give this to you in person." She smiled appreciatively as he handed her the box and started unwrapping it as slowly as she could make herself go, so she didn't seem overeager. Inside the box she found another box. She glared at him; he knew the story of when her little brother had done this to her on her eighth birthday and how much she had hated it. He just smiled and urged her to continue. Box after box she opened to no avail, all the while he smiled happily and she got more and more frustrated, until she finally came to the smallest. "If you managed to fit a smaller-" she started to say as she opened it but stopped as what was inside caught the light and her eye. It didn't even occur to her to wait to let him ask the question. "Yes," she whispered breathlessly. He smiled wider and slipped the ring on her finger. "You sure you want to be stuck with me for life?" he asked playfully, playing with the finger of the hand he was still holding. "I'm positive." *** 2 years later For the first time in a long time she didn't want to go out to celebrate her birthday, Dana Mulder decided as she looked down at the tiny sleeping figure that had joined their family a few short months earlier. She just wanted to be here, with her family. As she stood there her husband came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. "Happy birthday," he whispered in her ear. "Another good year?" he asked. She found his uncertainty endearing. "You sure?" She turned in his arms and leaned further into him. "I'm positive." Then she took his hand and led him off to start her next year off right. The End Author's Note: I couldn't figure out how to include Atlantis in this fic so Sheppard/Weir shipper power!!!!!
