The pressure had been building all day.
The city was hot and mucky
without a breeze
or the slightest bit of air.

The pressure had been building all day.
He felt trapped in the flat
    and left without a word,
getting no further than the doorstep.

The pressure broke
with the first roll of thunder
anticipated and very much needed,
followed by the inevitable downpour.

    The pressure broke
    when he overheated the milk
    and she lost her temper,
picking up on his every fault.

The pressure eased
after a brief downpour
and the clouds converged together
to block out the sky's tears.

    The pressure eased
when the baby began to cry
and both parents offered their comfort,
    differences forgotten in their care.

The pressure was lifted
as the rain eased off
leaving the air fresh and renewed,
ready to start again.

    The pressure was lifted
as the baby slept between them
while his parents whispered apologies in their kisses
and the milk overheated once again.
