Author's note: This is in response to SADanaMldr's first fic challenge~ ~ Write a Biogenesis sequel: Mulder and Scully ... (Scully, after coming in contact with the space ship) can now speak telepathically (they can hear each other and everyone else in their heads)... they also each have a new found super human power ... okay, that's it, make it interesting ... I prefer MSR, at the very least UST ... but it is not required. Hope it's interesting! hehe Psycho Kinetic Manipulation by Kirsten She couldn't believe her eyes. Mulder was right all along. It was obviously a space ship. No doubt she had ever had could tell her otherwise as Scully stood up quickly, water lapping around her ankles. She let go of the hem of her skirt and let it splash into the sea as her fingers moved to her temples. Shaking her head, trying to relieve herself of a deafening noise drowning her every thought, she dropped to her knees. This sensation or phenomenon she was experiencing, was the same as the one that sent her partner to a rubber room almost a week ago. It felt like someone had turned on a radio in her mind, way too loud and they couldn't decide on a station. There were voices--so many voices, but what was worse-was the static in between. A few members of the archeology team were at her side in seconds and helped her to the research tent. Scully dimly noticed the concerned looks they were giving her, at least those that hadn't run away in terror when they observed her condition. This feeling was becoming unbearable. Her head pounded with so many others thoughts, so many she couldn't hear one clearly. Sitting bent over, her face in her hands and her hands on her knees, Scully collapsed to the ground. She heard herself whisper, "Stop--oh, please just stop." And it did----everything. The silence was indeed golden as Scully sat up relieved the voices had finally ended. She only then realized as she looked around that she had another problem and or concern. Everyone around her was frozen, somehow stopped in time. This being the reason for the silence, she scientifically summized. Even thought processes had stopped. Scully recalled the anguished request she had made a few minutes before. She walked outside the tent and saw that the waves still washed ashore and the birds still flew in the sky, yet people were stopped in their tracks everywhere she looked. She considered making another silent request yet was so afraid the voices and the physical pain they caused would return. "Go," she stated hesitantly, and everyone went. So did the voices, only slightly more bearable than before. Just before she hit her knees and commanded everything to a halt again, as she instinctively knew she could, one distinct and distant voice separated itself from all the others. [Scully--where are you?] She heard his voice so clearly amongst the others. "Mulder?" She spoke aloud, spinning around expecting to find him standing behind her. [Scully!] [Mulder--] "Mulder!" [I can't . . . I can't hear . . .] Scully winced and pushed at her temples as Mulder's voice started to fade. The multitude of thoughts or voices seeped once again into her consciousness. She started to sway in delirium as two of the remaining workers at the sight caught her before she fell. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Scully awoke in a hospital bed what seemed minutes later. When she saw her mom come into her room, she realized the minutes must have been days. Scully noticed the voices were still with her, however it was her mom's thoughts that she heard. [How many times am I going to have to stand here--at your bedside and wonder if your going to live or die?] "Hi Honey--you gave us quite a scare. How are you feeling?" [I wish you'd quit this dammed job and think about getting a normal life.] "I'm fine Mom--it's just . . . my head--" "The doctor said he had you on some sedatives to calm you . . said you'd been hallucinating?" [You're probably losing your mind from some radiation experiment or something this crazy career----this job of yours has exposed you to!] "I'll be fine Mom--really! Don't worry . . ." she tried to sound as convincing as she could. A nurse ducked into the room. "Excuse me Ma'am, but visiting hours are over in five minutes, and Miss Scully needs her rest. I'm sorry." "Okay--let me just say goodnight then," she smiled at her daughter and kissed her on the cheek. "I love you Dana." [Please don't let me lose you like Melissa.] "I love you too Mom, see you tomorrow, okay?" "Just try to keep me away," she joked. [I can't lose you too--] "I love you Mom--"she said again as a single tear rolled down her cheek. "Me too Sweetheart." The door closed and Scully was alone again with the voices. Either she was getting accustomed to the never-ending sounds or the drugs were doing their job. She tried to concentrate and pick out one voice among the many. The best she could do was what she guessed was some of the floor nurses nearby. She drifted off into a fitful sleep listening to thoughts on irritating patients, a Cornwell novel and the romantic interests of one young nurse for the doctor on shift this evening. Scully was drifting in a peaceful place and enjoying the silence in her mind. [Scully--I'm here. You can hear me--can't you? Scully?] Mulder brushed his fingers along her cheek and through her hair. She shifted in her sleep and sighed in unconscious relief. Even in her sleep, Mulder could hear Scully's confusion and her troubled thoughts, broken as they were. [Oh my God . . . Mulder . . . I found . . . artifact . . . ship . . . my head hurts . . . voices . . . so many voices . . . Mulder? . . ] [I'm here Scully--right here beside you--] She opened her eyes and looked up into his. [I love you Mulder] [I know--and I love you too Scully, so much. This is going to be hard to accept, but you'll be okay-I promise.] "What's going on Mulder? I can hear you in my mind." [Near as I can tell, it's some kind of Psycho Kinetic Manipulation.] He smiled softly. [You remember Scully? It's how Carrie got even at the prom.] The voices grew louder. "I'm not sure if I can take much more of this," she cried. [Scully--concentrate on my thoughts and on me.] "Mulder!" she sobbed from the pain. [No! Scully--don't talk--think! At this point, if you talk it gets worse. Concentrate on my thoughts only.] [Mulder--help me--please! The voices . . . ] He grabbed her by the shoulders and as her blue eyes pleaded with his hazel, Mulder's lips found hers. As their kiss deepened, the voices that plagued Scully's tortured mind quieted--completely. All there was--was Mulder. They still held each other when the kiss finally ended. Scully laid her cheek against Mulder's chest as peace washed over her. Peace only Mulder could bring. As they held each other in the darkness of the hospital room, a nurse came through the door quite shocked to find a strange man in Miss Scully's bed after hours. "WHAT! in--the--world! are you doing in here? and just WHO are you? she glared at Mulder. Mulder stood, walked over to the well-built nurse, smiled, raised his hand and said, "Goodnight." The stalky nurse smiled, checked Scully's IV and whispered, "Goodnight Miss Scully--Mr. Mulder. Sleep well." She let the door shut softly behind her. [Err--Mulder? How did you do that? What just happened . . . I missed something, didn't I?] Scully stared at Mulder, who looked back at her with a twinkle in his eye. [It seems I've developed the ability to be more persuasive than usual-Scully] He smiled ear to ear. [I just mentally suggest something and it happens. I don't know how or even why--but it works every time.] [Okay, Pusher Jr., This wouldn't be how you managed to free yourself from the psych. ward--would it?] [Scully! You read my mind!] [Funny Mulder.] [What about you Scully? Noticed any other "unusual abilities" lately?] He raised his eyebrows. [You mean other than being able to read your twisted mind?] She gave him her sarcastic smile. [Yeah--other than that.] He sat back down on the edge of her bed. [Lets just put it this way Mulder--I was wrong about time being a "universal invariant." Before I passed out on the beach in Africa, I was able to stop time?] [Ooooo! Sounds like an X-File!] [Shut-up Mulder--I'm serious, why is this happening to us? I just don't understand . . . ] [I don't quite know how Scully. All that I do know is it is starting to make sense to me. Both of us were infected with the "virus," you in my hallway and me in Tunguska. We were then exposed to alien technology. It must have enacted something within us, turned on a switch. Just like Gibson, we now can read thoughts and like the aliens, we have special abilities--or super powers! We just haven't had the time to learn to control them yet.] [I'm not sure I want any of these "gifts" Mulder. I can't even speak to you normally without feeling as if my head is going to explode.] "You'll be able to speak your thoughts again Scully. It'll just take some time and practice--" [I'll help you--together we'll learn to use our gifts, then maybe we'll finally have a slight advantage over our enemies.] [I hope you're right Mulder.] [I know, it's going to be hard to get used to Scully, and even harder to accept, but we can work through this. You and me, we've always had a connection as partners, now it's just stronger.] [It's not just stronger Mulder. It's like we've laid all of our cards on the table. We'll never be able to keep secrets from each other again. Can you live like that?] [We'll have to learn to. It's not like this is anything completely new to us Scully.] He leaned forward and placed his forehead against hers. [You're the only one . . . the only one who's ever been able to read me like a book.]
