From: "Kris "Beast" Abel" Date: Thu, 9 May 1996 12:07:22 EST Subject: The Rest of the Stories This just sorta popped up one rainy night here in the Great White North where the weather is as finicky as it gets. Rain last night, now seven inches of snow on the ground and a snow day at that. I incoporated an adventure from the night before with something more to get to this story. Romance seems to come to me at the oddest times around here..... Disclaimer: The agents, their bosses, and the bastards about them are the props of CC, 1013, and FOX Broadcasting Co. They ain't mine to bugger with, but I'm doin' it anyways 'cause I like to mess with peep's heads and this is the best way I know.;) Schorry, schlurpee attack. Too much Orange Ooze mixed with Coke and Mountain Dew. This story is fer the gals that loaned me money to get hyper tonight...something they'll regret at tommorrow night's practice. Heh heh heh.;) Relationshippers Welcome, all else turn back for mushy stuff off the port bow. Der she blows! A Mulder-Scully thingy dead ahead! "Rain Turned Snow" by Kris "Beast" Abel, kabelicious@gmail.com The rain came down in drizzles outside the well-to-do apartment house of Agent Dana Scully. She glanced out at her from her doorway; pulling her rain coat tighter around her as she raised her jogging hood up over her fiery hair more. Rain always made her hair turn to static if it got wet enough. For extra protection, she wore a baseball hat under the hood and her hands were encased in gloves with the fingers cut out of them. A yip came from the floor next to her and she bent down to loosen the collar of the tiny Pomerian next to her. "Ready for your walk?" She asked the thing. It wagged its tail and jumped up against the glass in answer. "Let's go." Scully pushed open the door and they stepped out into the night's wet haze. A backpack was slung over her left shoulder for when the tiny animal became too tired to walk anymore. It was easier to sling the fellow into a bag to carry him home than in her arms because he squirmed too much to hold still. They walked for about five blocks before the little guy gave it up and lay panting on the ground. "That's one block less than your record," she remarked as she picked up the drowned rat of a dog and put him in the backpack. He squeezed into it and she zipped it up until only his tiny head peeped over the edge. Making sure it was secure on her back, Scully walked on another three blocks and went in to the local Seven Eleven for some tylenol and a magazine. As she was entering the driveway, a white van with wood side panels pulled up and four teenagers jumped out to go through the door; heading for the slurpee machine. All were wearing sweats, sneakers, jackets, and their hair was in pony tails with sweat running down their faces. All four were girls and one of them had a hat jammed backwards on her head with DC SOUTH SOFTBALL on it in yellow lettering. That was the high school that Scully's niece, Andrea, went to. She smiled as the girls rushed for slurpees. The bigger one with the hat, was jumping all over the place as she crammed all the flavors into one Big Swig glass. "Krysta! Come on! I gotta get some more Ooze into my glass!" The girl yelled. In answer, another girl flicked some Ooze at her. It hit her in the forehead and she yelped. "Erin! Come here you bowlegged freak!" The bigger girl yelled and took off down the aisle as the Ooze flinging Erin ran for her life. "Help! Dinah! Abel's after me!" She shrieked, heading directly for Scully. Abel, Scully had heard Andrea mention her before. Supposedly, she was the biggest brute at the school and a catcher for the JV softball team. The Erin she was chasing was a pitcher on the same team. Dinah was the other pitcher. She was jarred from her thoughts as Erin knocked her over. To protect Clyde, Scully flipped onto her stomach and got on all fours to get up. A strong hand gripped her arm and lifted her to her feet. A sweaty, freckled teenage face greeted her. Abel smiled and shook her head. "Sorry, 'bout that, Erin's a clutz when she's getting chased," Abel chuckled. "Yeah, right, Abel, you're the idiot," Erin retorted, removing herself from the floor. The Pomerian chose that moment to poke his head out from the pack and bark loudly. Abel and the rest of the girls immediatly crowded around Scully as they petted the dog. "He's so cute," Dinah said. "So soft," Krysta agreed, smoothing the dogs fur. Abel patted him lightly while taking a big slurp of her Moutain Dew drink. "You know, that stuff has more caffeine in it than coffee or Coke combined. I've seen people come into emergency rooms with heart attacks from drinking that stuff," Scully warned. "Don't drink too much of it." Abel grimaced. "That's what my mom told me. Are you a doctor or something?" She asked. "I'm a medical doctor, yes, but I work at the FBI for a living." Scully said. Awe registered in the girls eyes. "Whoa! Cool!" Was the general response. Taking one last pet on the dog, the girls waved good-bye and went to the register to pay for their drinks. "Bye!" Abel shouted as she bounded out to the van yelling "I GOT SHOTGUN!" at the top of her lungs. Scully smiled and grabbed what she needed before paying also. Arriving back at her apartment, Scully wasn't surprised to find her partner's car parked out in front. The drizzle that she had left in had become a downright storm and the wind threatened to blow the tiny dog off her back. She walked in through the front door and headed down the hallway to her apartment. Taking out her keys, the door opened right as she was inserting the key into the lock. Her partner stood there, his hair dripping wet and his lips turning blue. "Mulder!" She exclaimed and walked into the apartment; shutting the door behind her. "What's wrong with you?" She could see that he was freezing wet, but she meant why he was here. The emotional half of the problem. Mulder shook his head as he watched her rummage in the linen closet for towels. He smiled at the sight of his equally drenched partner with the tiny dog peeking out of the backpack on her back. Reaching out to her, he gently removed the pack from her; letting the dog out of his confines and placing the pack on the floor. The dog's body was all fluffed out and dry, but his head was soaked down to a skull. The contrast caused a smile to come to his chilled lips and then a laugh. He stopped laughing when he felt a towel thrown over his head and two tiny hands began to rub it furiously into his hair. Peeking out from under the towel, he saw the dog already hiding under the table from his master; thinking he was going to get the same treatment. The hands quit and he heard Scully move away from him. "There's some dry clothes in the bottom drawer of the dresser in my room, Mulder. Go change and dry yourself off some more," Scully ordered. He got up and dripped his way into her bedroom. After she was sure that he was in her room, Scully stripped off her soaked leggings, jacket, and peeled off her wet shoes and socks. Wearing her underwear and her t-shirt, she took the afghan from the back of her couch and wrapped it around herself. She settled back onto the plush little couch just as the door opened and Mulder entered the room. The sweats fit him a little long in the arms and short in the legs, but they covered him. "Better?" She asked as he sat down next to her. "Much better," he smiled at her. She looked at him hard; her eyes a clear blue that seared his soul. "Why did you come here, Mulder?" She asked. He shifted at the question. "I needed to talk to you about something, Scully," Mulder answered. She ran her fingers through her hair and left them there; propping her elbow up on the edge of the couch. "What is it?" Scully asked. "It's about...us, Scully. Our relationship," he said hoarsely. Hazel eyes locked onto blue eyes and stayed there, measuring her reactions to his words. "I-I feel that we need to talk about it." "Is it because of Modell?" She asked gently, reaching out to cover one of his hands with hers. "I don't blame you for your actions, Mulder. He was controling you then. It wasn't your fault." He smiled sadly. "It's not about Modell, Scully. It's about something more..something we should have talked about a long time ago," he rubbed his chin and stood up to walk over to her stereo on her bookshelf. Flipping through her CDs, he found the one he wanted and slipped it into the CD player. Soft piano music floated in the air as he pushed play on the stereo. He walked slowly back over to her; holding out a single hand to her. "Dance with me, Scully," he breahted. "Please." She swallowed as she saw his eyes darken and took his hand; letting the afghan fall away from her. The t-shirt she wore went to right above her knees, but her feet were cold as they touched the wooden flooring. Mulder pulled her clos to him, arm wrapping around her waist and her shoulder to hold her tight as he buried his face in her hair. Scully reached out and placed her own arms around his waist as they moved slowly about the living room to the music. Her ears perked up as the openeing strain came to her. It was something of her sister's. "Listen as the wind blows From across the great divide Voices trapped in yearning Memories trapped in time The night is my companion The solitude my guide Would I spend forever here And not be satisfied? And I would be the one To hold you down Kiss you so hard I'll take your breath away And after I'd wipe away the tears Just close your eyes dear." Scully felt the heat of her partners body sear through the black cotton t- shirt to her skin as his hand rubbed up and down her spine. His mouth was in her hair as it nuzzled her neck and tried to gain contact with her silky skin. The lyrics of the song seemed to have a hold on both of them, Scully thought. It was as if this song had been written for them in some mystical way. Night was Mulder's companion and he seemed to prefer solitude as his guide. Voices were yearning for the truth to be known and memories had been trapped in time; hiding secrets that the government wanted to keep hidden. It was the last stanza that scared her a little. Mulder shifted and she felt him turn his head to flick her hair aside as his mouth caressed her bare skin at last. A soft moan escaped her and she found her eyes locked with his and they moved towards the sofa. What was happening here? Crossed both their minds, but their bodies were another matter. "Through this world I stumble So many times betrayed Trying to find an honest word To find the truth enslaved Oh, you speak to me in riddles And you speak to me in rhyme Me body aches to breathe your breath Your words keep me alive And I would be the one To hold you down Kiss you so hard I'd take your breath away And after I'd wipe away the tears Just close your eyes, dear." Mulder's face became a blur as his head lowered to hers and his lips covered over hers. For the first time in years, she was speechless. "Into this night I wander It's morning that I dread Another day of knowing The path I fear to dread Oh, into the sea of waking dreams I follow without pride Nothing stands between us here And I won't be denied And I would be the one To hold you down Kiss you so hard I'd take your breath away And after I'd wipe away the tears Just close your eyes, dear." The songs rhythmn faded out and away as Mulder raised himself up to look deep into his partner's eyes. "I love you, Scully," he breathed before getting off of her and walking away into the kitchen. Dazed, her breath coming fast from his kiss, Scully stood and followed him; the afghan snug around her shoulders in a emerald cloud. He had his back to her as he stood, palms flat on the counter, staring out the window at the pounding March rain. She walked quietly up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist; snuggling her head into his strong back. "I always knew you'd be the one to start this," she said quietly. "You've always been the Curious George of this partnership." She kissed the sweatshirt beneath her cheek. "I've loved you since that day when you stole my heart. It was that final stakeout on Tooms for me. Did you know I almost did buy you iced tea, but only got the root beer because I figured you needed the caffeine?" She rubbed her suddenly tear-streaked face into his back. "I've loved you so long." He turned in her arms to face her. Seeing the tears, Mulder let his own go as he picked her up in his arms; carrying her into the bedroom. They fell asleep that night in each others arms with a relief and new found hope warming their hearts. @~--@~--@~--@~--@~ It was early the next morning when both partners were awakened by the doorbell ringing and the dog yipping in the living room. "Who comes to the door this early?" Mulder mumbled in her hair. She looked over his shoulder at the clock. "It's 11:00 in the morning, Mulder. We overslept," she muttered, eyes sliding shut once more. "Can you get it?" She asked, then thought better of it. But he was already moving towards the door; sweatpants only on his body with his hair sticking out in all directions. Mulder looked through the peephole before opening the door wide. A teenage girl wearing jeans, boots, a sweatshirt, and a DC SOUTH SOFTBALL baseball hat stood there. She smiled at his attire and gave him an appreciating stare. "I'm looking for a Dr. Dana Scully?" She asked. "I found something of hers last night." She said. He held open the door for her and she walked in. Scully's leggings and sweatshirt were still draped over the couch from last night. The girl didn't mind them as she pulled her L.L.Bean vest looser over her body. It was freezing outside, but the doctor's apartment was sweltering. "She'll be with you in a minute," the man said to her and went off to what must be the bedroom. Curious, Abel wandered around the apartment to look at the photos on the mantle over the fireplace. The man's picture was there along with the doctor. They were looking rather serious as they went over some paperwork at an office. Another one was of a red-haired woman who looked a lot like the doctor. She wore a crystal around her neck and looked sorta New-Agess to Abel's eye. "Can I help you?" A voice asked. Abel turned around to grin at the tiny woman standing in front of the tall man. "I found this tangle in my jacket last night when I got home," she said and took out something from her pocket. "I assumed it was yours." She dropped the object into Scully's outstretched hand. Scully gasped as she found she was holding her cross in her hand. A hand went to her throat and she realized for the frist time its absence. "I take it it's yours." Abel grinned. "Thank you! I didn't even know it was missing," Scully exclaimed. "How did you find me?" The girl shrugged. "That red hair of yours seemed familiar and I called a team mate of mine on softball. She said that it sounded like her aunt. When I told her about the cross, Andera said it was you and gave me your address. I sledded over here as quick as I could." She smiled. "I'm Kris Abel, but call me Abel. Everyone else does. Even my teachers." "Nice to meet you, Abel. I'm Dana Scully and this man behind me is Fox Mulder." She held out her hand and was rewarded with a strong, calloused shake from Abel. Mulder stuck out his own hand and Abel gave him a good grip of a shake. "Good grip," he smiled ruefully, running a hand through his ragged hair. She smiled. "My coach always thought so," she looked at the clock on the wall. "Yikes! I gotta go or I'll miss the Philes on television!" She yelped and made a mad dash for the door. "Bye!" She called out as she ran with surprising speed for a girl her size. Scully looked out the window with Mulder as the girl hopped into a..sled?! "Oh my God," Scully said as she saw the amount of snow outside. A good three feet covered the ground as she watched Abel climb into a dog sled attached to five brawny golden retrivers. She shouted to them and they sped off down what was the sidewalk. Mulder chuckled behind her as he drew himself away from the window to go back into the bedroom. Scully watched him ago and went to the kitchen in search of some food for breakfast. By the time Mulder returned, wearing his jeans and clothes from the night before, she had already fixed eggs and toast for the both of them. They are the meal in silence as the sun began to go down in the west. It was around 2:00 when Mulder admitted he should try to go home to freshen up before work tommorrow. Scully didn't want him to leave, but she didn't think she could save him from having her if he stayed. It felt good to be able to kiss him good-bye as he left. As she watched him dig out his car and drive away in the warm sunshine, Scully felt a part of herself become whole again. The rain of misery had finally turned into soft soothing snowflakes after all this time. @~--@~--@~--@~--@~ Well? How's that? Do I continue or do I drop like a hot iron?
