She paused for a moment, watching the rain, then added, At that very moment, Fox Mulder was looking out *his* window. he thought, disgusted with the weather. It had been raining every day that week. Then, shocked at his own thoughts, he asked himself, Then he answered his own question. He sighed deeply, thinking of her, and continued staring out the window on that depressing, dreary day. Then an idea popped into his head. He thought about this for a minute, then asked out loud, "But what would I say to her?" "Say to who?" said a familiar female voice. Mulder spun around. "Scully?! Hi! I was just thinking about you!" "You had better have been thinking only good thoughts, Mulder. Because if you weren't-" "How could anyone ever think anything but good thoughts about you, Scully?" he said teasingly, grinning at her. He reached out to touch her hair. She swatted his hand away. "Stop that," she said, but she was grinning too. Silently, they stood like that for a moment, each of them enjoying the other's company. Then Scully spoke up. "So, Mulder, uh, who was that you were talking about when I came in?" "Oh, um, no one," he replied, rather hastily. "Are you sure?" "Actually, Scully, I was thinking about someone I've known for a long time." "An old friend?" "Yes. I've known her for a long time. She's even saved my life on occasion. She is the only person I can trust, and the only person I've ever really loved-excluding my family, of course." He paused for a moment, then admitted shyly, "She is you, Scully." Scully went pale. "*Me*?" she whispered. He nodded. "Yes." "Mulder, by any chance have you experienced any sort of head trauma lately?" Mulder realized. "Scully, you've got to trust me on this." "But, Mulder, I-I never thought that-" "Shhh," he whispered, putting his finger to her lips to silence her. Then he spoke again. "Scully, I love you." "Tell me again," Scully said softly. "I love you, Dana Scully, I love you. During the first few years we were together, I never thought I *could* love you, but lately-oh god, Scully, sometimes I've wanted so badly to tell you, but I was so scared, and unsure, and I-" He was growing more emotional with every word. Scully came over and put her arm around him. "Shhh, Mulder, it's okay, calm down," she soothed. Then she said, "Mulder, I-I love you, too." "You-you do?" he stuttered. "Yes, Fox-I mean *Mulder*." "It's okay. You can call me Fox if you want to." "But I thought you *hated* it when people call you that." "I do, normally. Mom, and now you, are the only exceptions." A wry grin crossed his face. "But under *no* circumstances is *anyone* allowed to call me 'Spooky.'" "Yeah, okay, sure, Fox. You can call me Dana if you want. I don't mind." She smiled radiantly. And from that day forth, they used first names when addressing each other. They carried on a secret romance, so they wouldn't be separated. They spent hours together, just chatting about *normal* things, because they had a lot to catch up on. And they never, ever missed a chance to kiss, or say, "I love you." -end of "A Rainy Day"- Author's Note: Well, how's that for a first try? Please e-mail me at sjlrose@aol.com.
