Ratboy's Revenge by Cheryl Levine Looking around his basement office, Fox Mulder wondered what his next case would be. He felt closer to his partner, Dana Scully, than ever before. He was enamored by her strength and independence despite her cancer. Despite his blandishments for her to check into a hospital with her worsening health, Scully was resistant because she could not admit to herself that her cancer was real. After working on a legion of cases with Mulder, Scully felt that she could not abandon him. Scully knew that she must keep Mulder calm during the field work, as he tends to be mercurial and unpredictable at times. The phone rang and Mulder grabbed it. "Scully," he said when he hung up the phone, "Ratboy is dead." "Mulder, I've never hear you call Agent Krycek 'Ratboy' before. I thought that was just on the Internet." "He was beaten to death--he deserved it after killing my father..." "He killed my sister, too," Scully interrupted. "Let's not get magniloquent now, Mulder. That's the last thing you need." "Scully, they want you to do the autopsy and they want me to write an elegy. But, Scully, what can I say at his funeral? I despised Ratboy. And don't say I didn't because I know that you did, too. Melissa was killed as an attempt on your life. By him and Cancerman." After completing the autopsy on Krycek, Scully began reporting her findings to Mulder. "It looks like I have some evidence here that it was done because he could not defend himself with his one arm...here is a scrap of cloth--we'll run some tests on it...look, he has a scar behind his ear and his lungs are filled with second hand smoke...Mulder--is this report so soporific that you need to take a nap?" "No, Scully, I just don't think that Ratboy is really dead. It could be a clone, or a distraction..." "No, Mulder, it's him. Why don't you go talk to the officer who found his body?" As an interlocutor in the interrogation, Mulder knew he must keep the conversation moving and be aware of a possible salvo from the police which could ruin his FBI career. As the interview concluded with no new leads in the case, Alex Krycek walked into the police station... comments to dllevine@erols.com Okay, we have to do this: all of the background, history and characters are not mine, they are Chris Carter's, Fox's and 1013's. You know the drill. However, all actions and stories are my own. ThanX to CC for creating such a great show that leaves so much room for expanding it through fanfic. That done, here's the stories.
