This is not as exciting as some other stories and I am reposting
File #1 since it has been a long time.
Each file is complete, but some might be curious about #1.
The best part is they are short. AAD

The Red Suit Files -- by A. De Lisle

                 File #1

"Hi, Scully", Mulder said. "Things have been so slow lately, I
started looking at some old reports. I found one about a Special
Agent Bill Maxwell who had a phenomenal record of solved cases, but
most were in the two years before he retired. What do you think of
following up on some of them?"

Scully replied, "Are these really x-files?"

Mulder chuckled and said, "Some of the reports say the culprits
kept muttering about a man in a red suit. Some said he could fly.
One was so positive that he was put in a padded cell in a mental
institution. He became very religious and eventually was released,
but it wasn't long before he was back."
"I thought we might interview him. I called the parole officer
and got his current address. He works at a homeless shelter near here."

Mulder and Scully arrived at the shelter between meals, so Johnny
would be free. They found him reading his Bible. They inquired if he
would talk to them and he agreed.

They asked about his criminal record and how he came to reform.
He talked freely about his crimes and told them how sorry he was.
He had been alone in the padded cell with nothing to do but read the
Bible. Gradually he had realized how wrong he had been and vowed to
help people wherever he could, especially if he could help them
find faith. He served food and washed dishes at the shelter and read
his Bible between meals.

Mulder looked at the file in his lap and casually said, "What
about the man in the red suit?"

Johnny jerked and looked around cautiously. "What man in a red
suit?", he said.

     Mulder quoted from the report.

Johnny screamed, "Super Guy!" and hid under the bench.

Several hours later, the attendants managed to get him out
still clutching his Bible.

As the ambulance drove away, Scully said, "My, but that man
in the red suit made a big impression. I'd like to meet him."

They collected the reports and headed for the door just as a
volunteer named Ralph (Hanley or Hinkley) came in. Of course, he
wasn't wearing his red suit. Maybe next time.

                        File #2

Scully was shuffling papers when Mulder came in. She lookd up
and said, "Another slow day. I am tired of reading these reports.
How about we look at another of Agent Maxwell's cases? I found one
that has a lot about a man in a red suit, but he doesn't seem to be
the same one."

Mulder replied, "Just what we need to brighten up the day."

They found an address and went hunting. The first address
belonged to a woman. She said that the previous tenant was an actor.
Mulder and Scully looked at each other with big grins. They were
sure his current address would be on file at the Equity office.

The Equity office secretary listened with interest as they
told her about the case and was happy to look in the records. She
couldn't find his address, but she did find the address of his agent.

Off they went to locate the agent. He was busy with a client
and two phones, but eventually he had time to listen. He laughed
and told them that they could find the actor at Whopping Big Pizza.
They rushed off to that location and sure enough, there was a man
in a red suit. He was laughing and joking with people, trying to
interest them in buying pizza. They approached him and asked if he
had worked with Bill Maxwell.

He said nostalgicly, "Only the one time. That was the best
time of my life, but I don't want to do it again. I am Captain
Bellybuster and I was working for a hamburger chain. It turned out
they were really smugglers and we had a great time catching them.
I lost my job, of course, but I got another pretty soon."

Captain Bellybuster kept talking about his later jobs and how
he never saw Bill again. Mulder finally asked if he had ever seen
a UFO either when he knew Bill or any other time. Captain
Bellybuster gave a negative reply, so Mulder pressed on.

Mulder queried, "I have heard people say there was a man in a
red suit who was seen flying. They said it was too far to have
been a jump. Did you ever do any acrobatics?"

Captain Bellybuster turned pale and said, "I promised not to
tell anyone about that." Mulder persisted and Captain Bellybuster
finally told him there was another man in a red suit who could fly
and who "popped" in and out.

Mulder looked quizzical and asked, "Popped in and out?"

"Yes,", came the reply, "he could make himself invisible and
come and go. It was eerie. Bill kept jumping every time he did
it. It really was funny. Bill's friend's name was Ralph, but I
never was sure if his last name was Hanley or Hinkley. He had a
gorgeous girlfriend named Pamela who is a lawyer."

Scully asked, "Do you know where any of them are now?"

Captain B thought for a minute and then said, "Well, all that
happened in Southern California, so I guess you might try there. I
think I heard them discussing Ralph's class, so he probably taught
school and Pamela is probably still practicing. The California Bar
Association might have her current address. Bill had had some
injuries and he was older, so he probably retired."

Mulder thanked him and they left.

Mulder said, "Well, Scully, we have some new clues. Maybe our
next witness will narrow it down."

Scully laughed and said, "I think Captain Bellybuster reads
too many comic books--a man that can fly like Superman, wears a red
suit and now is invisible! Come on, Mulder, let's get back to
those reports and reality."

"OK. But next time we have a case near Los Angeles, I want to
follow up our new clues--he might live there and his girlfriend is
a gorgeous lawyer. How many of those can there be?"

Scully thought it over and then said, "Lots. Remember it's in
California."

Maybe they will find time to search further before they return from
the vacation at Palm Springs. That was in California, wasn't it?
I recommend everyone read "Palm Springs" by Nicola Simpson.
