She sat right down on the sofa
I said, "Where have you been? I've been waiting for you.
Cause last night I had something so good
These days get so long and I got nothing to do"

------ "Hangingaround" by The Counting Crows

-------------
The phone would not stop ringing. Mulder rolled over and reached for it,
not completely awake.

"Mulder."

"Agent Mulder, what...I thought this was Agent Scully's number."

"Yes, Sir. It is, Sir. Let me get her."

Ohmygod, what have I done, Mulder thought as he remembered where he was,
and why. As he stood, he surveyed the damage. The living room was a
disaster area, a result of this morning's activities. He began walking
toward
the bedroom, hoping to find Scully. As he entered the room, he saw her. She
wasn't under the blankets and appeared to be cold. He approached the
bed quietly, not wanting to get shot again.

"Hey, Scully, wake up. Skinner's on the phone for you. And he sounds
pissed."

"What time is it, Mulder?"

"It's, umm, hold on..."

He checked his watch, then quickly glanced at the clock on Scully's
nightstand to double-check the time.

"Shit Scully, we are in trouble. It's eleven. Didn't we have a meeting?"

Scully leapt out of bed, a look of panic on her face. She began rushing
around, trying to get herself together as fast as she could. Mulder just
stood
by the bedside and waited to be noticed. When her eyes settled on him, he
grinned.

"Hey, Skinner's still on the phone for you."

She hurried past Mulder into the living room and grabbed the phone.

"Morning, Sir. I know we are late. We're on our way."

"Don't bother, Agent Scully. The meeting is over. You didn't miss
much but your absence does not reflect well upon me."

"I understand Sir. And again, I'm sorry. We will be there shortly."

"Maybe you didn't hear me, Agent Scully. I said not to bother. Take the
rest of the day off. You obviously need some time to recoup from your last
case."

"Yes Sir. Thank you Sir."

"And Agent Scully?"

"Sir?"

"Give Agent Mulder my regards."

"Yes Sir. Good day."

She hung up the phone, a look of confusion on her face. Skinner wanted
her to give Mulder his regards, what does that mean. Then it dawned on her.
Ohmygod, Mulder answered the phone. Skinner knows that Mulder slept here
last night.

She was heading back towards the bedroom to confront Mulder when she
heard the shower start. To hell with it, she thought, I've seen him naked
before.

She knocked once on the door, knowing that he would not hear her. She
then entered the bathroom, bringing a gust of cold air with her. She heard
him exclaim loudly before sticking his head out to locate the source of the
cold. Upon seeing her leaning on the edge of the sink, he ducked back into
the shower and continued washing his hair.

"So, Scully, how much trouble are we in?"

"Oh not much, yet. I think once the facts that we were absent from the
meeting and that you obviously woke from a dead sleep to answer my phone
sink in we will be in a great deal more trouble."

"So, we missed the meeting. Oh well. Guess we'll just have to hide from
Skinner today, let him cool down."

"Actually, he gave us the day off. He seems to think that we need some
rest after our last case. He also wanted me to give you his regards,
whatever
that's supposed to mean."

"Thanks. Hey, could you hand me a towel?"

She grabbed a towel off the rack and held it out to him, purposefully
dangling it out of his reach. As he leaned further out of the shower to get
it, she continued to move the towel farther away.

"Scully, what are you doing?"

"Nothing."

"That's not nothing. Don't make me get out of this shower and chase you
down."

"You haven't got a prayer of catching me."

"Oh, yeah?"

As he started to get out of the shower, she bolted for the door, her hand
reaching for the knob. He reached her just as she was pulling the door past
her body. The sound he made as the door struck him in the head was only
rivaled by the sound of him hitting the floor.

Scully stopped cold and tuned around to see if he was all tight. As she
knelt down to check him for injuries, he reached up and pulled the towel
out of her hands. A cock-eyed grin began to spread across his face as her
eyebrow raised.

"Ha. Told ya I'd catch ya."

"You cheated. And you scared me, damn it. It's not funny."

No sooner were the words out of her mouth than they both dissolved
into a fit of laughter. Scully sank to her knees as she tried to catch her
breath. Once she could breathe again, she looked up at Mulder, sprawled
across the bathroom floor wearing only a little pink towel and began
laughing again. He looked down at himself and shrugged, then looked at a
very red Scully and began to laugh, also.

"I don't know what's funnier, Scully, me on the floor or you turning
beet red."

Scully was still laughing too hard to respond verbally, but she did
manage to grab the towel that was covering him. She looked up at his face
and saw that it was now beginning to flush as well. This renewed her
laughter once again and she couldn't hang onto the towel. Mulder grabbed it
back and immediately stood, getting out of Scully's range. He stepped
around her and left the bathroom, followed by her peals of laughter.

He got the spare pair of sweats out of the overnight bag that Scully
kept in her closet for him and put them on. He then returned to the bathroom
to find Scully sitting on the floor trying to catch her breath.

"Better now?"

"Yeah, thanks. So, Mulder, what do you want to do today?"

"I don't know. You?"

"Thought I'd finish up that report, maybe watch a movie."

"That it?"

"Why? I thought you didn't know what you wanted to do."

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe we could finish what we started this morning,
before I passed out."

"Hmmm... Let me think about this."

Several minutes passed with Scully once again leaning against the sink
and Mulder standing in the doorway toweling his hair dry.

"Well?"

"Sure, Mulder. That actually sounds like a good idea. Shall we?"
-------------

The End? (of course not)

Author's Notes: Any guesses about what's going on? And how much trouble do
you think they'll be in? Let me know.

"I've stood here before
Inside the pouring rain.
With the world turning circles
Running 'round my brain."
