Rating: PG Feedback would be much appreciated of course! The frustration had been killing him and he didn't understand why. She was the same beautiful woman she'd been all these years. The same sexy, petite body; same pouty little lips; same fire-red hair and the same ocean-blue eyes. She was just Scully, yet tonight she was so much more. Mulder squirmed in his seat, as it became more and more difficult to focus his attentions on the road ahead. He could feel his heart rumbling in his chest as he glanced over at her every so often. She was so soft, so peaceful sleeping there; her hair slightly tousled, the top button of her blouse undone, allowing him to see only a shadowed curve and a rim of lace. She had slept so long, but he didn't mind. He was actually content in seeing her lying there, wondering what she could be dreaming about; wondering if he would be one of the characters in her dreams. "Umm Mulder?" she mumbled. "Yes Scully?" She yawned and stretched her arms out in front of her, pausing for a moment to remember her question. "Are we close to a rest stop?" "I think maybe another 10 miles or so, why?" He studied her intensely, wondering what could have woken her from such a sound sleep. Perhaps it was that slight bump in the road they'd just grazed. Or maybe it was too cool in the car and she'd caught a nasty little chill. It could have been that she'd been having some wild, sexual dream and was awakened in the throes of her excitement. She was obviously looking for a place to exercise these fantasies of him she'd been having since the day they met, and he suspected that now was the time. Yes, he was on to her- "I have to go to the bathroom," she said, squirming in her seat. "Oh, right we're really close Scully, just hold on a few more minutes." Yeah, maybe the same few minutes he would need to snap back into reality a little 'Wild sexual dream...' Who was he kidding? He realized that he was definitely taking the next sleep shift. Ten minutes later they reached their stop, a beautiful scenic view; more scenic than Mulder had expected. They pulled into the loop and parked at the edge of the outlook. The moon was all the light they needed to see the backdrop of mountains and the dark clouds that misted their way around the tops of them. Mulder glanced at Scully and studied the wonderment in her eyes. The moonlit sky and child- like gleam in her eyes only made her more lovely to him. He wanted to reach out to her, to touch her soft skin in a way he never had before. He wanted to take her in his arms and share this moment with her, wrapped in his embrace, sheltered by the love he'd had for her since the beginning. He was so fixed on her beauty that he almost didn't notice her hand cup his own. She was still looking upward at the moon, eyes sparkling, and slight smile across her lips, indicating to him that she was indeed awake here. But was he? Maybe he was the one asleep in the passenger side, while she was driving. Could he really be awake? Could his Scully really be reaching out to him this way? Without a word at all? "Mulder, isn't this amazing? It's almost as if this moment was planned out." He turned toward her. "Are you suggesting that I planned this all out in an attempt to sway you, seduce you and erase your memory?" he said with a smirk. She squeezed his hand abruptly, noting his sarcastic imitation of her. "I'm being serious Mulder." "Oh, sorry - please Scully, continue." "Well, I just mean that something out there has brought us here to this spot for a reason. I feel some sort of pull that I can't quite put my finger on. Don't you feel it Mulder?" "Oh, I feel it, believe me -" Just then he spied a tear making its way down her cheek. "What is it Scully?" He reached out to stop the tear with his thumb. But she could not answer. She wasn't crying out of pain, but rather, fear. The love she felt for him was immeasurable and she was afraid to express this to him out of fear of rejection or the loss of a dear friendship. She always sensed a love from him, but it was often lost in a game of joking and sexual innuendo. Sometimes she just couldn't tell where his real feelings lay. "I'm sorry Mulder. I'm just tired and a little dazed; I'm fine, really." He didn't believe her. As usual, he suspected that she was covering up some hidden feelings and he wasn't going to let her slip by with it this time. "Here, let me get you a tissue and we're gonna talk about this." He said as he reached into the glove box. As he fumbled around Scully noticed something odd in there. She moved his hand out of the way. "Magic Shell?" she inquired with a raised eyebrow. "Don't ask," he mumbled. "Listen Scully, there is obviously something bothering you here, and you know you can talk to me, right?" She wasn't going to budge on this one; it was a perfect distraction from his annoying interrogation. "So, Magic Shell huh? I'm sorry Mulder, did you say rest stop, or Dairy Queen?" She giggled at her herself and looked up to meet his blushing stare. "Don't avoid the question, Scully." She frowned, "How about you don't avoid mine." "Scully", he said calmly, "Are you all right, seriously?" She decided to give up at this point, he obviously didn't want to share his sick little fantasies with her. "Mulder, have you ever just known that no matter how you feel about something, it is sometimes just better to leave those feelings in a nice dark place where they can't hurt anyone?" "I have." "Well, that just may be one of those times." He smiled at her and pulled his face close to hers. "Scully, I love you too." She was shocked. How presumptuous had that been? But he knew. And he was returning the feeling. "You do?" "Yes, Scully, always have, always will." "Oh Mulder, I do love you, so much. I could never tell you, I didn't want to lose you-" He pulled her tight in his arms. "I know, I know baby it's okay." She buried her face in his chest, breathing in his heavenly scent and basking in the moment. He lifted her face to his and kissed her softly on the forehead. She looked into his eyes and almost melted from his sleepy gaze. His face drew nearer as his lips grazed her chin, up to the tip of her nose and back down to her lips. Once there, he kissed her deeply. She could feel the love which he had confessed, to her, spilling out into his passionate kiss. His arms squeezed her tighter and she could feel herself losing breath, but she didn't care. This was the most amazing night of her life and she knew things would never be the same. She squeezed back and pushed herself deeper into his kiss. A slight trickling noise finally drew their lips apart. A refreshing shower of rain was now blanketing their car and the two found themselves as giddy as children. "Do you want to go out there?" he said with a boyish grin. "I don't think so Mulder. I feel pretty comfortable right here in your arms." He smiled at her romantic comment and placed another soft kiss on the top of her head. The two sat, wrapped in each other's embrace, admiring the rain and the moon above. The silence was a perfect setting for them to appreciate and savor this moment in their hearts. "So can I ask you a question, Mulder?" "Yes, Scully?" She grinned, "What's up with Magic Shell, anyway? -END-
