Roulette

Part (1/2)
	*	*	*	*	*	*

As Scully dashed up the stairs to her front door, she dug her hand
around in her purse for her keys. Shaking under the difficulty of
restraining her unshed tears from falling, she jammed her key into the front
door and, wrenching the knob, roughly twisted the door open. She stepped
inside to the welcoming dark hush of her living room, the moonlight falling
through the windowblinds the only light. She slammed the door behind her and
leaned against it. Then, with the knowledge that no one would see her
crying, she bent her head down to her chest and let the teardrops dampen her
face. Silent sobs racked her frame as she replayed the evening in her head
and quietly cursed herself.

It happened, seemingly, as everything else did; unexpectedly.

The night started out well enough. Mulder and her were judiciously
finishing overdue paperwork in their joke of an office, exiled to the
basement of the Bureau building. Not that Mulder minded. Sometimes she
thought he reveled in his banishment since it only added to his questionable
reputation. She could just imagine the conversations his erratic behavior
in collusion with their strange assignments must create. ‘Yup, ya haven’t
heard about the basement. Oooh, Spooky lives down there. Better not go
down there, it’s like da Bermuda Triangle. An agent disappeared down dere
almost five years ago and she hasn’t been seen since.’

She smirked at her partner out of the corner of her eye. If only
Mulder had *done* his paperwork on time, then they wouldn’t be stuck in the
office on a Friday night. But she couldn’t bring herself to resent his
procrastination any more then she could resent his fashion sense. Staring
at the ridiculously colorful tie he was wearing, she once again considered
how his idiosyncrasies only endeared him to her. As her eyes drifted from
his tie to his lean frame, bent over his desk, her thoughts took on an
entirely different form. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows and she
could make out the muscles in his forearms. Shifting about from being
confined to a chair for so long, his rustling was making her body tense
subconsciously. Aware of his every movement, she could hear the friction
between his shirt and his skin, becoming lightheaded with the knowledge of
his nearness. And oh god, he was wearing those damn sexy reading glasses.
Her mouth twitched as she stared at him, a moist heat spreading through her
body. Since she didn’t often get the chance, her eyes raked over his
profile and wondered what would happen if she just strolled over and gave
him a little recess from his hard work. She could lean over and inhale his
strong, musky scent and then maybe undo the top button of his dress shirt.
And then…

Whoa there, honey, get a grip. Deep breaths. She leaned back in her
chair and unwittingly let out a sigh of frustration, covering her face with
her hands and rubbing her eyes.

     "Pretty tedious, huh?"

Mulder’s voice jarred her from her thoughts. "Hmm? What was that,
Mulder" she asked.

"You shouldn’t be here helping me, Scully. Come on, it’s a Friday
night. You have places to go, people to see. There’s an office party going
on upstairs. Why don’t you jog up and get the party started? Show those
wimps in accounting how to seriously jitterbug."

She let a chuckle slip from her lips, relieving some of the sexual
tension wiring her body. Only Mulder would consider *her* a partier. What
with the monastic social calendar she followed, she was surprised she could
still remember what the jitterbug was a reference to.

"Only if you accompany me to make sure the punch isn’t spiked, Mulder.
This paperwork is already late. I don’t suppose anything will come of it
being turned in even later. Besides, " she added with a giggle, "a party is
the only justification for the existence of that tie."

A mock hurt look crossed his features as he pushed himself back in his
chair and stood up, grabbing his jacket as he did so. She followed, glad
and reluctant to be escaping their solitude. But hey, it was a while since
her last party. Might be fun. Give her a chance to flex those rusty social
skills that had gone into hiding. She sighed, considering it a symptom of
her and Mulder’s exclusivity. When Mulder was present, everyone else just
seemed to be an afterthought.

She sneered at herself. You are truly sad. Hopelessly infatuated with
your partner and totally unwilling to do anything about it.

	*	*	*	*	*	*	*

Mulder’s eyes appraised the outline of his partner’s figure as she
strolled down the hallway in front of him. She was wearing a navy suit, the
skirt cut just above the knee, clinging in all the right places. The result
of his scrutiny being that his pants wound up clinging to him in a way he’d
just as soon Scully didn’t see. He adjusted himself discreetly and folded
his jacket over his arm in front of him, concealing his arousal. He
inwardly groaned at his knee-jerk reflex to his partner’s presence. He
couldn’t help it. It had become natural, his frustration. And his
perpetual physical arousal to her presence was tolerable, to the extent that
she drove him to distraction.

But then, he thought regretfully, who could resist her? Who could
resist Dr. Dana Katherine Scully? With her smoldering intense eyes and
luscious petite frame, her auburn locks and those perfect eyebrows she would
arch while giving him a questioning look, he was as helpless to her as he
had been to Modell. Although Scully controlled more than his actions; she
held the reins over the heart beating against his chest, and with her every
utterance, her every movement, a chord struck in him. Sometimes he would
just stare at her when she wasn’t looking like a schoolboy would at a
teacher he was infatuated with. What maddened him most was her absolute
innocence of her own beauty. She seemed totally unaware of her affect on
other men and it baffled him. Didn’t she know how desirable she was? He
longed to reach out and caress her hair, draw her close to him and put an
end to his physical and emotional frustrations. To tell her what he felt
for her without fear of refusal or reprimand.

But he couldn’t. He sighed at his weakness. He just couldn’t risk
losing her. Their partnership, their friendship depended on the mutual trust
they had built over years together. He couldn’t bear to threaten her faith
in him, in their union. It meant more to him than he could apprehend and as
long as he could keep the fingers that itched to touch her at his sides, he
would. That’s what was safest.

What a coward I am. Able to converse amiably with serial killers and
confront the most heinous forces within the U.S. government but totally
dumbstruck when it comes to Scully. Awed, stunned and terrified. Totally
hopelessly in love.

He broke out of his thoughts as he and Scully got off the elevator that
had brought them to the accounting division of the building. The party was
apparently already in full gear. Men and women lingered about the main
office, party streamers hanging from the windows and a concessions table set
up to their right.

"Well, should we call the FDA about those pork rines sitting on the
table or just macarena till we drop? Your call, Scully."

"Mulder, I’ve seen you dance. I don’t think we should subject these
poor people to that or else we might get stiffed on our expense reports for
the next few months."

"Oooh, Scully, I’m hurt. They called me Twinkle-Toes at Oxford."

"Sure, Mulder. Whatever you say." A sardonic smile radiated across
her features and his heart rose in his throat at the sight. She had no idea
what that simple smile did to him. He felt his throat tighten and for a
moment forgot where he was. Then with a start he regained his emotional
composure,

"Well, come on Scully, let’s boogey."

	*	*	*	*	*	*	*

After consuming a couple glasses of punch which were, in fact, spiked
with some kind of sweet liquor, Scully glanced around to see where Mulder
had run off to. If I had a collar on that man, he’d still find a way to
ditch me, I swear. Strolling around the room, making polite small talk with
the few other people she recognized, she soon caught sight of Mulder across
the room gesticulating animatedly to a circular cluster of people. Curious,
she headed their way, and was about to interrupt Mulder when she heard from
a man standing across from Mulder,

"Well, you have no choice in the matter, Mr. Mulder. You have to kiss
her." Mulder chuckled and straightening up, feigned a dutiful salute and
then leaned into the woman standing next to him and kissed her. Scully
stopped dead in her tracks, staring at Mulder and the woman. She knew her,
she realized. She was an accounting secretary from the fourth floor; tall,
leggy and twining her arms around Mulder’s back. She could have doubled for
any one of Mulder’s Bambi-esque admirers. Gail something. Gail Simons,
Gail Simmons, oh what, the hell, she didn’t care. She was kissing Mulder,
she was KISSING Mulder! Scully felt nauseous as her stomach clenched inside
her, turning over until she felt positively motion-sick. The sight of
another woman kissing Mulder sent her mind spinning. She felt physically
ill. A shudder ran through her as she realized that image would ingrain
itself to her memory. Her pain slowly took on the form of indignance. How
could he so lackadaisically kiss another woman? Tears leapt to her eyes and
she ruthlessly pushed them down, unwilling to let her pain become apparent
to a roomful of strangers. Suddenly, the man, John Weckes, she knew him
from Quantico she realized with surprise, glanced up and saw her standing
there, about six feet away from the group.

"Dana Scully, I can’t believe it, is that you?" he laughed and walked
up to her, embracing her swiftly. Disinclined to let her precarious
emotional state show, she hugged him back, laughing softly.

"John, hi, I thought it was you. What are you doing here?"

"Well, hey, a guy’s gotta make a living right? I got transferred to
Washington about six months ago from the Portland Office. I’m just
surprised to see you here. Man, talk about coincidences. Must be fate,
huh?" He grinned widely at her. A memory flickered across her mind as she
plastered a smile on her face. A memory of her and Mulder together on the
Tooms case, sitting in the car. ("If there’s an iced tea in that bag, could
be love," "Must be fate Mulder, root beer.") Fate, she thought bitterly.
How ironic that fate should play the matchmaker. She remembered too, how
Mulder hadn’t slept for days on that case, fearing that Tooms would strike
again. And she knew he had been afraid for her safety. She looked up at
Mulder, attempting to ascertain his thoughts. His face unreadable, she
decided to play it cool.

"So, what are you guys up to?" she asked. John slid his arm around
her shoulders and chortled, escorting her back to the center of the group so
that she might see what everyone was centralized around. On the table
behind them lay a an empty bottle of beer, on it’s side.

"Ya ever play ‘Spin the Bottle,’ Dana? Mulder there just got himself a
lipful." John said.

"Yes, so I see." Turning to face John, her back to Mulder she stated,
"Mulder and I are partners, John." Then, shamelessly flirting with him
solely for Mulder’s benefit she sidled up next to him. "Have you gotten a
lipful yet, John?"

"Why no, Agent Dana, I don’t suppose I have. Shall I let the bottle
help me out? Play a little romantic roulette?"

He looked as pleased as a kid at Christmas and she suspected that he
had already had a few drinks but was in no mood for prudence, what with
Mulder’s behavior. Giving him a thousand watt smile she added
conspiratorially, "Just make sure it lands on the right girl, John."
Without another word, John leaned over while everyone looked on and spun the
bottle. As if she was orchestrating it herself, the bottle slowed to a stop
with it’s head pointing directly at her.

John laughed loudly and then shrugged. "Just lucky, I guess. Hey
Mulder, you don’t mind if I indulge myself here, do you?"

From the periphery of her vision, she caught Mulder’s subdued response,
"Go ahead" and then, with a come-hither look crossing her face, Scully
leaned into John and let her hands go to the back of his head, lightly
caressing the ends of his hair. Then she slowly pulled him to her and
kissed him, insuring it was long enough to arouse the attention of others
and that Mulder was at the perfect angle to see it. Releasing John, she
smiled at the group which was by then watching her intently. John breathed
heavily,

"Geez Dana, are you sure they didn’t teach you something about turning
men on in Medical School?"

"Nope, just doin’ a what comes naturally." She turned triumphantly to
Mulder to see if she had illicited any of the same reaction from him but his
gaze was fixated on the ‘Dogs Playing Poker’ painting at the back wall.

"Great instincts." John slipped in, having regained his poise. The
others in the group had gone on to spinning the bottle, taking turns around
the group in a circle. Scully attempted to maintain the appearance of
interest, for the sake of her pride. She was loath to let Mulder know that
the very thought of him kissing another woman, even under the pretense of a
game, made her want to crawl under her bedcovers and cry herself to sleep.
She glanced at him cautiously. His brow furrowed, he seemed intent on the
game. Before she realized time had passed, she heard John’s voice,

"Come on Mulder, give it a go and make some woman lucky." Mulder
smiled tightly and leaned over, giving the bottle a brisk spin. Scully
watched with apprehension, trying to deduce where fate would plant Mulder’s
lips. The bottle slowed to a halt and the group looked up. It had stopped
with it’s head pointing at Scully.

"Lucky dog." John murmured under his breath.

She breathed in quickly and looked up into Mulder’s vast, inscrutable
eyes. Abandoning normalcy, her pulse pounded against her skin, causing
moisture to pool beneath her silk blouse and unbuttoned blazer. A soft heat
seared through her as her chest tightened. Mulder gazed at her for a long
moment and for an instant the intensity between them caused a silence to
fall over the group. Then Mulder shrugged.

"Nah, I think there’s something in the Bureau rules about that. I’d
just as soon start up a game of Pin-the-Tail-On-The-Donkey. Come on, who’s
with me?" Gail smiled up at him and joviality suffused the onlookers again.
John guided Scully away from the dispersing crowd and tried to make small talk.

"His loss. I guess being partnered with someone kindof gets you to
start thinking of them as a sister. Anyway, do you want to dance?"

     "John, I’d really rather leave."

"Sure. As a matter of fact, how about you and I go get something to
eat? I know a great Thai place nearby."

"John, I’d really rather go home. Will you take me? I’m suddenly not
feeling well."

"Sure Dana. I hope you’re not coming down with a bug. I guess we’re
getting too old to keep up our all night bashes like the one after
graduation at Quantico?"

She grimaced at his efforts to cheer her but she was inconsolable.
Mulder thought of her as a *sister*? Her mind a canyon, one thought echoed
through her. He doesn’t want to kiss me, he doesn’t want to kiss me. I
can’t believe it. He’ll kiss her, but not me. Her cheeks burned under the
weight of that humiliation and her heart sank under the weight of a more
abysmal realization.

For a long time, she’d known she was in love with Mulder. There were
so many small, seemingly insignificant moments that transpired between them
while so many enormously important events occurred around them. While
conspiracies plaguing the government hindered their efforts on the X-Files,
she found something profoundly more stirring in the man teamed with her; his
fierce dedication to truth. His firm and righteous faith in those close to
him. His trust in her. The very men who tried to encumber their
professional path had, with every obstacle they fabricated, brought her and
Mulder closer together. Working towards the same objective, their goals
intersected years ago, allowing them to travel the same journey. She always
believed that the path they traveled, when brought to fruition would enable
them to begin a new journey.

It never occurred to her that Mulder didn’t even consider her anything
more than a partner. Sure, he might not love her romantically but in the
least, they’d developed a friendship which she valued and trusted. He was
the focus of her life, the only man who had ever treated her as an equal,
intellectually and professionally. Swallowing with difficulty, she guessed
she now knew why. He didn’t care about breaking down her defenses in order
to pursue her romantically. She was a *sister* to him. But not even that.
He had a sister. She was a colleague. The term seemed so cold. So remote.

How could this be right? It felt wrong. She knew him, she knew
emotionally she was missing something, some step she hadn’t calculated, but
no. It couldn’t be it but… it was the only explanation she found to explain
his behavior. No matter how unpleasant it was, her tendency to rely on
logic brought her back to that old axiom: if one eliminates the possible,
whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. And while she felt
in her heart that Mulder didn’t see her only as a colleague, logic led her
to that conclusion.

     "Dana, are you listening?"

     "What was that, John?"

"Do you want me to get your coat?"

Her coat. Downstairs. In the office.

"No. I’ll be fine. Just, please take me home." The thought of
returning to the office to get her coat and car keys, where only a short
while before her and Mulder had been exchanging verbal water-balloons, made
her cringe.

John carefully escorted her out of the room, his hand falling on the
small of her back as Mulder’s had so many times before. She shook her head
with the strangeness of the sensation of another man’s hand splayed across
her lower back. Whatever. She had to get home without breaking down into
tears. Calm down. Calm down. Don’t think about it. Forget it. Forget.

As Scully and John threaded their way through the crowd out the door,
one darkening pair of eyes followed their path.

End part one of two….

No infringement is intended in the borrowing of these characters. I’m

the show…

Part (2/2)
         *	*	*	*	*

Mulder sat, complacently gnashing sesame seeds between his teeth while an
intense jealousy blistered every fiber of his being. He hunched down in the
seat of his car, across the street from Scully’s apartment, trying to attain
some semblance of aloofness, trying to convince himself that the jealousy
consuming him existed as a result of loyalty, friendship… but not love.
Abandoning the attempt, he rolled down the window of his car and spit the
seed fragments from his mouth. An acrid taste on his lips, he shifted
restlessly, wondering where Scully was. Going over the events of the
evening, he wasn’t too thrilled with his behavior but after seeing Scully’s
lips pressed firmly against John’s, he supposed he should be glad he could
still form words. And then… when the opportunity came for him to do the
same, he’d refused. The idea of other people being present during that
moment was unbearable. She wasn’t a party favor. He couldn’t pretend that
a kiss with Scully wouldn’t mean something. His lips curled in a scowl.
She sure as hell didn’t have much difficulty kissing that shit. Where the
hell was she, anyway? He didn’t see her car out front and could only assume
that she was out with John Weckes.

The thought paralyzed him. The notion that another man could touch her,
smell her… God, what kind of animal was he? Was he so territorial that he
couldn’t even allow the woman a shred of freedom? He groaned. It was true.
When it came to Scully, he was as territorial as any animal. He couldn’t
help it. That’s right, he thought bitterly. Spooky Mulder who doesn’t work
well with others. The poster-boy for paranoia, and then she came along and
ruined all those walls he had spent so long building up. Not by pounding on
them or kicking them down. She just opened the door and the floodgates came
pouring out. He had tried to remain distant, to put her off by espousing
strange theories in the hopes that she’d mock him, that he wouldn’t be
tempted to trust her. But she hadn’t. She’d listened carefully, weighing
his opinions and then offering her own. She’d made him a man again, one he
could respect. She made him better than he deserved to be. He didn’t
deserve her.

Suddenly, a light flickered on in her apartment. He jolted up in his seat.
How’d she get home. Oh god, a thought washed over him. Could she be in
there with him? Could they be…? He had been watching carefully at the
party to see if Scully was drinking and she’d had a couple. What if Weckes
was making a pass at her after inebriating her? The thought scared him. It
really scared him. The need to know she was safe outweighed the knowledge
that she’d disapprove his interfering. He had to know she was safe. Taking
a deep breath, he opened the car door to get out.

        *	*	*	*	*	*

Scully sat on the couch in her living room in the dark long after her
tears had dried. She contemplated her situation. Well, there’s no use
crying over spilled milk. Mulder didn’t want her. He was still her
partner. He was still her best friend. She owed him his freedom and if he
wanted to pursue other women, she had no right to confine him.

Leaning over to turn on the lamp next to her couch, she tried to keep
her thoughts positive. She slowly stood up and went to the kitchen,
determined to force food down her throat. The spirit may not be willing but…

A knock interrupted her internal monologue. Startled, she closed the
refrigerator door and approached the front door. She opened the door a
crack and caught sight of Mulder, gazing back at her intently.

     "Hey Scully, are you…alone?"

"Of course, Mulder. What’s wrong?" His defensive stance indicated
something was wrong. She’d learned to read his body language well. They
communicated without speaking sometimes, often much to the chagrin of others.

"Nothing, I just wanted to make sure you got home okay. You had a few
drinks earlier."

"Mulder, I can take care of myself." she sighed. "Well, do you want
to come in?" He stepped inside her apartment, relaxing somewhat, and turned
around to face her. In the light of the room, he discerned the tearstained
appearance of her face.

"Hey, Scully, what’s wrong? Have you been…crying?" Anger flooded
through him. If that jerk, Weckes, had done anything to upset her…Murderous
thoughts engulfed him. He could feel bile rise in his throat and his fists
tightened in response to his rage.

She turned slowly and walked back to the kitchen. He followed. His
voice low, he tried to speak calmly.

"Scully, did Weckes try something on you? I mean, did he…" His voice
trailed off and she continued to ignore him, saying only,

"Do you want something to eat? I was about to make myself a bite."

"Scully, listen to me. You have to tell me what’s going on. Did he do
anything, I mean, seriously, I have to know, I.."

     "Mulder, just shut-up, okay."

     "No, but.."

"Mulder, it’s not *him* I’m mad at!" she shouted, causing him to stop
dead like a deer caught in headlights. Suddenly, a strange grief seeped
through him. It was him. She was angry at him. He shook his head.

"But, what did I do?" She snapped her head up to stare at him and he
saw a blind fury boiling in those blue depths.

"What did you do," she responded bitterly. "More like what you didn’t
do." She fought with herself, trying to maintain her poise. Then, her
muscles relaxed in defeat and she treaded slowly to the living room, sitting
down on the couch. Mulder trailed behind her and stood at the entrance to
the kitchen, staring at her. Then he heard a small voice,

"How could you, Mulder? How could you kiss her and then refuse to kiss
me? Am I that…unappealing to you?"

The carefully checked pain in her voice caused tears to well in his
eyes as he blurted out,

"Don’t you get it Scully? I couldn’t just kiss you like that. I
couldn’t kiss you like that and pretend it’s a game. Because it’s not. Not
for me."

She contemplated his words. Somewhere inside her, a grain of happiness
started to grow, realizing the unspoken talisman of what he’d said.

"Mulder, what are you saying?" she asked calmly. Then she looked up at
him. He looked so…vulnerable. So open to her. His voice quavering, he
looked away, unable to look her in the eye and confess his sins.

"Scully, when I kiss you, if I kiss you, I don’t want it to be in front
of a dozen other people. Because it’s just you and me. I don’t see the
rest. They don’t belong between us. *Nothing* belongs between us." He
glanced up, afraid to see scorn in her eyes, or pity. But all he saw were
tears. They flowed down her face freely and although she made no noise, he
immediately went to her side and kneeled in front of her.

"Scully, what’s wrong? I’m sorry, I mean…" and his voice was stopped
by her fingers stopping his lips. He froze under her touch, not breathing,
mesmerized by her eyes. The air between them was suddenly thick, sparking
with the electricity they created. She watched her fingers caress his lips
and then, drawing her hand away, she watched his lips. Then slowly, she
leaned in and touched her lips to his.

He started at the touch and then, because he couldn’t prevent himself,
drew his hands around her back to bring her even closer to him. His mouth
opened and his tongue entered her mouth, moving over hers, exploring her
thoroughly. A sigh deep in her throat sent his body reeling and he could
feel his erection, hard against the couch, responding to her body unwittingly.

"Mulder, I think…Let’s go to my bedroom."

He couldn’t breathe. His muscles felt weak beneath him and he doubted
he could stand under the weight of her suggestion. Simultaneously, he
doubted he could stop himself from standing. In one swift motion, he
gathered her in his arms and carried her to the bedroom. Then, as carefully
as possible, he put her down, like a fragile gift, on her bed. He stopped
then, and looked into her eyes for some assurance.

She stared at him, perched so cautiously on her bed, unsure of his
surroundings, and a pure happiness swelled within her. God, she loved him.
Then, leaning forward, she slowly drew his tie off of him.

"I never did like this tie, Mulder."

"I’ll burn it in the morning." he replied somberly.

She laughed out loud and drew him to her, kissing him deeply. Their
mouths sought one another’s hungrily and his hands skimmed restlessly up and
down her back. Then, taking his hand, she stopped and pulled him up so that
he sat in the middle of her bed, leaning against the pillows at it’s head.
She slowly pulled herself astride him and inwardly smiled at the look of awe
that he gave her in response. She purposefully unbuttoned his shirt, taking
time to unbutton the cuffs of his sleeves, pulling his shirt away from him,
tossing it to the floor and then, smiling slowly, moved her head down to
touch her mouth to his exposed chest.

He gasped aloud at the sensations her mouth moving over him provoked.
She opened her mouth and let her tongue dance across his chest, nipping
lightly at his nipple. He groaned and tried to grab her head, to draw her
up to him, but she moved away, down further, peppering his well-muscled
stomach with feathery light kisses. Then, still teasing him, her hand
rested softly against his crotch and he jumped subconsciously.

"Scully, please.." he groaned. He couldn’t bear her tormenting
movements, the feel of her soft body above him, but not against him. He
grabbed her wrist and dragged her up to him, kissing her hard and then
rolled her beneath him. Shaking with arousal, he pulled at her blouse,
yanking it apart to expose the skin beneath. The sight of her unveiled
beneath him made him lightheaded and he lowered his mouth to smell her skin
and then, holding her arms down against her bed, opened his mouth to taste
her. She tasted so good, like jasmine and cotton candy and all the sweet
things of the world combined to one perfect flavor. Her chest rose and fell
rapidly and he could feel her squirming beneath him, her movements hardening
his erection even more. He looked up so that he could watch her. Her head
was turning from side to side and she clenched and unclenched her fists.
Her lips were swollen from their kissing and her cheeks were flushed. God,
she looked beautiful. He wanted to arouse her still more, though. He
wanted to hear her coital cries in his ears, and rejoice at the sound. He
slowly released one of her arms to place a hand on her breast. Through the
fabric of her lavender bra, her nipples hardened beneath his touch and he
was eager to taste her. He quickly unclasped the bra and exposed her soft
breasts to the air. He then closed his mouth over one nipple, his hand
moving over her other breast and he suckled her fervently, laving her skin
with his utmost attention.

Scully moaned beneath him and her legs parted to wrap themselves around
him. The sensation of his mouth on her burned her and a warm wetness spread
from beneath her. She wanted to touch him, hold him in her hands and show
him how much he aroused her. She shimmied beneath him and a growl escaped
his lips. He held her down, suckling her nipples and moving his hands under
her to hold her buttocks. Her hands caught in his hair and she pulled him
away from her, staring into his eyes. He looked drugged, not totally in
control of himself, but not in a bad way. She slid out from beneath him and
rolled him beneath her, her hand moving quickly down to cup him through his
pants. He arched his back and moaned loudly.

     "Sculleee."

Not willing to let up, she swiftly unbuttoned his pants and drew them
down, tossing them to the ground. She then threw off her own blouse and
bra, which had become hindrances to her efforts. As quickly as possible she
kicked off her shoes and slid her skirt off her hips and then pulled off her
nylons and panties, tossing them to the pile of clothes gathering on the
floor. Then, focusing her gaze on Mulder’s face, she slowly pulled down his
boxers and dropped them to the floor. He lay naked on her bed. Like a
fantasy come true, she thought. She moved up to hold his erection in her
hands and he cried out, shaking beneath her. She moved her hand over him
and then, moving her head down took him in her mouth. She licked the head
of his hardened arousal and then moved him in and out of her mouth in long
strokes. He moaned and his hips lifted to meet her, despite himself.

"No, Scully, wait.." he panted. Afraid he’d embarrass himself, he
pushed her away from him and stared at her, amazed. He wanted her beneath
him when he came, he wanted to be inside her. Unable to control himself, he
dragged her up to him, to kiss her. His mouth slanted over hers and he felt
his dick against her stomach, the friction of their bodies sensitizing him
still more to her touch. He had to take her, now, he couldn’t wait.
Rolling her beneath him, he touched her point of entry and she writhed
beneath him, tantalizing him with her movements.

She moved her hips in a primitive rhythm, grinding herself against him
and her arms went around him, her nails scratching him lightly. Then they
went lower, clutching at his hardened buttocks, bringing him closer to his goal.

Unable to hold out, he sank into her slowly, gasping at the sensation
of her welcoming folds. He thrust into her slowly, trying to make it last.
He reached between them to caress the sensitized nodule above her opening.
She whimpered beneath him and his thrusts instinctively got faster. They
moved together, and she wrapped her legs around him to bring him even deeper
into her.

"Mulder, please, no… Oh God." He could feel her muscles tightening
around him as she got closer. Then, he lightly flicked her clitoris and he
felt her buck beneath him, spasming as she came. He held her tightly,
trying to watch it in her eyes, trying to control himself. But his own
needs couldn’t be reigned in. Faster and faster he went on, clenching her
tightly to him, continuously plunging into her until with his own release,
he cried out her name and buried himself within her.

Moments later, after the waves had finished crashing, he pulled out of
her, careful not to crush her beneath him. He carefully pulled back the
covers of her bed and ushered her beneath them. Following, he felt a
strange fulfillment spreading through him.

"Hey Scully." he murmured, caressing her gently, wrapping his arm over
her, making sure she was real.

     "Hmmm, yes Mulder."

"I forgot something." She rolled over in his embrace and looked right
into him.

     "What’s that?"

"I love you, Scully." he said simply. She smiled warmly as a tear
trickled down her cheek.

"I love you too, Mulder. So very, very much." This man, whom she’d
suffered for and saved, who’d in return done the same. Each the other’s
salvation.

"What about all the rest of it. What do we do about… everything else?"

"It’s all just an afterthought, Mulder."

And as they curled together, letting sleep overtake the journey they’d
begun, their salvation found in each other’s arms, the thought in his mind
as he drifted off was that, as always, she was right.
