Rutheford
Denver, Colorado
Bullier Gorge
4:13am

The wind was blowing hard as a figure slowly climbed up to the edge of the
cliff. Flashes of light could be seen though out the sky which gave light
to the worn and tattered figure. The figure was a girl no more than nine
who was barefoot and wearing only a nightgown to shield her from the coarse
wind. Clutched in her arms was a small teddy bear. The girl's face was
expressionless as she slowly stood up at the edge of the cliff. The cliff
overlooked a gorge about one forth of a mile deep. For safety reasons the
state had constructed a barb wire fence to keep cattle and other animals,
as well as people, out; but somehow the girl had found her way around it.
However this place was not new to the girl. She had been here many times
before. The wind stopped and the girl, still clutching her bear, glanced
blankly up to the sky. There was a bright light and a high piercing sound
that caused the bear to drop from the girls' arms. The girl was used to
the bright light but never before in this experience had she ever heard
that awful noise. Cringing, the girl looked into the sky only to be
engulfed by a flash of light. In that same instance the sound vanished as
well as the girl. The wind resumed and the cliff was vacant once again
except for the lonely little teddy bear.

Bullier Gorge
9:30am

The area had been roped off with police “CAUTION: Do Not Enter” tape. Men
could be seen all around busily looking for any piece of evidence they
could find. At the bottom of the gorge there was a special medical team
searching among the rocks for any sign of what could be the body of the
little girl. Back on top a blue ford escort pulled through a path that had
been cleared in the barb wire fencing and stopped just on the other side of
the tape. Two people climbed out from the car, a male from the driver's
seat and a female from the passenger side. Simultaneously the two pulled
out badges from their coats and the female stated “I’m Agent Scully and
this is Agent Mulder, we’re with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”
A very puzzled Sergeant Mike Deavers walked over to them and exclaimed, “I
didn’t know they called in the FBI.”
“We seem to get that a lot,” Mulder said turning to Scully.
Scully just gave Mulder one of those, shut up and let me talk Mulder,
glances. “Could you give us a little background on this incident?” Scully
asked.
“Well.” Sighed Sergeant Deavers, “All we know is a little girl around the
age of 9 disappeared from her house last night and no one saw her or could
find her.”
“Why are you searching here?” Inquired Mulder.
“Well we brought out tracking dogs to try to find her and they lead us to
the edge of this cliff and that’s where we found something.”
“What did you find?” Scully asked, inquisitive as always.
“We found the child’s stuffed bear.”
“Isn’t that unusual to bring out the tracking dogs until the child has
been missing for 24 hours?” Mulder wondered.
“Usually yes but under these circumstances we thought it best to go
ahead.” Before Scully could ask the Sergeant answered knowing what she
would want to know next. “The girl, Jordan Lee was her name, has just
started to sleep walk for the past month. She had never left her house,
well at least her mother didn’t think so. She was always safely in her bed
every morning and the front door was locked. It is unusual for sleepwalking
persons to lock and unlock doors.”
Scully nodded.
“Where is the bear now?” Mulder asked.
“Back with the girls mother. She requested it back and we didn’t see any
use for it.” Deavers said.
Mulder nodded and turned towards the car. Scully walked closer to the edge
and gazed at the people below, followed by the Sergeant.
“Have they found...” Scully paused, “Anything?”
“Not a trace down there. As I said the only clear evidence was the teddy
bear.” Stopping slightly as Scully turned around Deavers said, “One thing
that puzzled me though...”
Scully turned to Deavers with an interested look on her face.
“This area is surrounded by a barb wire fence, almost impossible to go
through without snagging clothing or hair. We searched this fence and
didn’t find anything. How did the girl get through there?”
“Thank you for your time Sergeant.” Scully exclaimed heading toward the
car. She could see that Mulder was anxious to go somewhere and she knew
better than to keep Mulder waiting.
“Oh, and Agent Scully,” Deavers said, “If you do find anything, please let
me know. I’m kind of interested to know what happened.” He finished, nodding.
Scully just simply nodded and maneuvered herself into the rented Ford
Escort. Mulder got in beside her and strapped himself into the seat. “So
where are you so anxious to go off to Mulder?” Scully asked.
“I want to visit the mother. Maybe she could tell us more about the
sleepwalking.”
Mulder was quiet for a while as they drove down the curvy road into town.
He was almost afraid to tell Scully what else he had found out about that
night for fear that she would just laugh at him and tell him that it was
his overactive imagination again and tell him that there was just a logical
explanation for the whole thing.
	“Scully,” Mulder said cautiously.
“Yes.” She said turning to him.
“Last night a man was walking home from a party and he noticed flashes of
“lightening” in the sky and then one big flash over towards the gorge. He
said he had never seen lightening act that way before.”
“He was probably drunk and besides they weren’t any weather reports of a
storm or even a lightening storm last night.” Scully said.
“We’re here.” Mulder said as the blue escort pulled along side the curb of
an old Victorian home.
They walked up to the door. Mulder reached over to the doorbell and pressed
it. In return a melodious song of Beethoven’s fifth echoed throughout the
house. A woman of 35 or so came to the door with bloodshot eyes. She had
obviously been crying.
“Mrs. Lee?” Scully asked sympathetically. “I’m Agent Scully and this is
Agent Mulder, we’re with the FBI and we were called in on your daughters
case.”
Once again their badges were pulled from their jackets and displayed so
that woman could see them.
“Oh yes, please come in.” Mrs. Lee said stressfully. “Why have they called
the FBI in on this? Did they find anything?”
“No ma’am, I’m afraid not.” Mulder said. “In fact I’m not ever sure Agent
Scully and I know why we were sent to this case.”
Mrs. Lee lent them through her tile hallway in the living room that was
tastefully decorated with pictures of they family. Pictures of the family
skiing and tubing down hills. On the mantle by the fireplace was a 8 x 10
of Jordan.
“Is Jordan an only child Mrs. Lee?” Asked Scully.
“Yes,” Mrs. Lee answered, seeming distant. Spencer, Mr. Lee, and I tried
for another child. We were lucky to get Jordan.
“Where is Mr. Lee now?” Scully asked.
“He is at work. He left early this morning. He usually leaves around six.
I was still in bed and we had no knowledge that Jordan was not in her room.
We called him and he said he was going to try to get off as soon as he could.”
“Could you tell us about Jordan’s sleepwalking habits?” Mulder asked.
Mrs. Lee seemed to snap back into reality. “Well she had never done this
before. I think it has only been happening for about a month.” Pausing,
“Sometimes I would wake up in the night and Jordan would be walking around
in the house clutching her bear. Just walking around. I knew it was
dangerous to try to wake sleepwalkers so I just guided her back to her bed
and closed her door. In the morning the door was still closed so I guess it
was only once a night. I asked her if she remembered anything about that
night. She didn’t know anything about it.” Taking a deep breath she
continued. “I never had any idea that she would go outside. It get to
around 54 degrees at night here and Jordan was always warm when I guided
her to bed.”
“You said that she was clutching a bear. May we see it. That is what they
found at the scene and I just wanted to glance at it if it is all right
with you.” Mulder said gesturing to Mrs. Lee.
“Not at all, I’ll go get it.” Mrs. Lee got up from her chair and shuffling
toward the stairs climbed them.
As soon as she was out of earshot Scully glanced at Mulder curiously. “Why
did you ask to see the bear?”
“I just thought it might have something on it. I thought we might be able
to take it to the lab and test it for any materials that might have been
caught on it.”
Scully just shrugged. Mulder always had weird intuitions and maybe, just
maybe this could lead to something.
Mrs. Lee walked down the stairs, her gaze fixed on the bear. The bear,
however, was not yet visible to Mulder or Scully. Looking up as she reached
the bottom of the stairs she said, “This was Jordan’s favorite stuffed toy.
She wouldn’t go to sleep without it even though she is 9. We tried to break
her of the habit but it didn’t do any good.”
“That’s O.K., Mulder still sleeps with his blanky.” Scully said shooting a
smirk at Mulder.
“How would you know Scully? Did you see me?” Mulder said accusingly.
Mrs. Lee smiled but that slowly faded. She handed the bear to Scully. They
found this at the edge of the cliff. I just hope she didn’t drop it
before...before...” She paused almost afraid to say anything. “Before
she...fell.”
Mulder glanced at the bear. Seeing it for the first time his expression
suddenly became serious and his face was became very pale.
Trying to comfort Mrs. Lee Scully said, “When we visited the scene they had
crews working on top as well as below the cliff and they hadn’t found
anything. I don’t think Jordan fell.”
Gulping Mulder asked, “Where did Jordan get this bear?!”
“Um... I think she said that one of her friends gave it to her as a gift.”
Mrs. Lee said trying to think.
“I’m sorry, I can’t think clearly right now.”
“We understand.” Scully said. “Thank you for your time Mrs. Lee. We are
sorry to disturb you.”
“Please just find Jordan,” Mrs. Lee said as tears welled up in her eyes.
“May I have the bear back please.”
Looking at Mulder, Scully said “I think that will be o.k.” She noticed
Mulder had been awfully quiet and now he looked a bit sick. Concerned
Scully quickly handed the bear to Mrs. Lee and they headed out the door.
Outside Scully turned around. “If we find anything we promise we will let
you know immediately.”
Mrs. Lee clutching the bear looked down and just nodded.
Mulder was already in the car and his expression was much like Mrs. Lee’s.
Scully wondering what made Mulder suddenly act this way, got into the car
and put her hand on his shoulder.
“Mulder are you o.k.? You’re not sick are you?” Scully asked concerned.
Mulder still blankly staring, slowly turned his head to Scully. “I know
that bear Scully.”
	“What?” Scully asked puzzled. “How?”
Looking away Mulder gripped the steering wheel. “Samantha had one just like
it.”
“Well I’m sure it could be alike. Perhaps they both got the bear at a
similar store.”
“No Scully.” Mulder said strongly. “You don’t understand, my grandmother
made one for Samantha just like that. I remember it because Samantha would
always carry it around. She named it Rutheford. One time I took it, and as
a joke, was about to write on the belly with marker when Samantha came in
and took it away as I was making one blue mark.” Mulder paused, “Scully,
that bear had a blue mark on its stomach.”

Storicher Grove (Near Bullier gorge)
4:30pm

In the distance the sound of dogs barking could be heard. A pile of leaves
was blowing in the wind. The sound of the dogs became louder. With the
dogs was the sound of crunching leaves. The dogs came to a stop and the
crunching of leaves halted also. Sergeant Deavers crouched over a small
body. It was Jordan. He felt her neck for a pulse. He breathed a sigh of
relief. He noticed she was awfully warm for being out here just in a
nightgown all night. He didn’t see any sign that she was hurt so he took
the chance of lifting her up in his arms as he carried her to his truck not
far from the outskirts of the grove.

St. Luke’s Hospital
5:15pm

Deavers had made it to the hospital in ten minutes and in that time he had
radioed ahead to have someone notify Mr. and Mrs. Lee about the condition
of their daughter. When he arrived at the hospital the girl's parents were
already there. They rushed Jordan into intensive care just to make sure
everything was O.K. They soon found that she was not unconscious, just
sleeping peacefully. They woke her up.
“Where...where am I?” The little girl asked in wonder.
“You’re in the hospital.” Mrs. Lee said leaning over her daughter.
Jordan glanced around the room to become familiar with her surroundings.
“You sleepwalked last night again,” Mrs. Lee continued, “but this time you
got outside and they found you in the grove near the gorge.”
Not thinking that any of this was unusual Jordan simply asked, “Where’s
Rutheford?”
“Right here.” said Mrs. Lee pulling out the teddy. She knew her daughter
and she knew that she would want the bear as soon as she woke up.
“When can I leave mommy?” Jordan said hugging the bear tightly to her chest.
“Not until tomorrow, the doctors want to make sure everything is O.K. with
you.”
“Will you and daddy stay here?” The child said in a saddened tone.
“Of course sweety.” She said patting her child on the head.

St. Luke’s Hospital
7:00am

Mulder and Scully entered though the double sliding doors and walked up to
a counter. Again showing their badges and Scullly repeating herself once
more told the clerk who they were and asked where they could find Jordan Lee.
The clerk pointed them in a direction and they nodded their heads and
headed down the hall. They walked into a little room only big enough for
one patient.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee were fast asleep in two chairs placed next to their
daughter's bed.
Exchanging glances Scully and Mulder walked over to the chairs. Scully
gently shook Mr. Lee.
He woke up groggily and rubbed his eyes. He obviously hadn’t gotten a lot
of sleep that night.
“Yes, how can I help you?” Mr. Lee said still not fully awake. By this
time Mrs. Lee was beginning to wake up. Mulder glanced over at the girl and
saw the teddy bear clutched in her arms. He placed his hands in his pocket.
He began to become a little anxious. He wanted to know where Jordan had
gotten the bear.
He HAD to know.
“Mr. Lee,” Scully assumed, “I am Agent Scully and this is Agent Mulder, we
are with the FBI. We spoke to your wife yesterday about the disappearance
of your daughter. I see they found her. Is everything O.K.?”
“Yes, fortunately. They didn’t find anything wrong with her.” Mr. Lee
explained. “Everything’s O.K.”
“Do you mind if we wake her up?” Scully asked. “We want to ask her some
questions.”
“Sure, but good luck, we’ve tried. She didn’t remember much.” Mr. Lee said.
Mrs. Lee gently shook Jordan.
	“Uhh...Earthquake...?” Jordan whispered.
Scully and Mulder smiled.
“No hunny, Mr. Mulder and Miss Scully want to ask you some questions.”
Mrs. Lee explained.
Jordan sat up in her bed as Mulder sat next to her. She rubbed her eyes and
glanced over at Mulder.
	“Hi Jordan.” Scully said.
“How do you feel?” Mulder asked.
	“Fine.” Said Jordan.
“Jordan, I know a lot of people have been asking you this but just try to
remember something...” Scully paused. Jordan moved her eyes from Mulder to
Scully. “Do you remember anything that happened to you on the night that
you left your home?”
Jordan removed her glance off Scully and stared into the air.
Looking back at Scully she sighed, “No....sorry.”
Mulder, taking a deep breath, asked “Jordan...where did-”
Mulder was interrupted by the doctor that had examined Jordan, who had just
walked into the room.
“Sorry to interrupt you Mr. Mulder but may I talk to you and Miss Scully
outside?”
Mulder glanced at Jordan and then at Scully.
	“I’ll be right back Jordan.”
Mulder reluctantly got off the bed and walked out of the room behind Scully
and the doctor. He glanced back at Jordan and the bear.
“I wanted to ask you two if the police or the FBI had found out why Jordan
was out there in the night?” The doctor said.
“They don’t have a good explanation yet.” Mulder said. “And why she was
fine when they found her.”
The doctor exclaimed, “That’s what confused me, a little girl gone from her
home at night, walks out into the freezing air and isn’t found until the
next afternoon. You’d at least think she would be hungry or cold. Not a
thing. She said she wasn’t hungry and Sergeant Deavers said that she was
unusually warm when he found her.” The doctor said pausing and glancing
through the window of the room at the girl, “I just don’t get it.”
Mulder and Scully just exchanged glances. “Is that all doctor?” Mulder
asked anxious to get back into the room.
“Yes that is all. ...But,” The doctor said stopping Mulder and Scully,
“You will let me know if you find anything won’t you?”
Mulder and Scully nodded and were about to reenter the room when they
almost bumped into a nurse going into Jordan’s room.
“Oh! Excuse me. I’m sorry but visiting hours are over.” The nurse said.
“I just have to ask Jordan one more question.” Mulder said almost pleading.
“I’m sorry Mr. Mulder but I can’t go against Doctor’s orders.”
Mulder sighed and seeing that the nurse wasn’t going to let him in turned
around and walked down the hall followed by Scully. Mulder knew that Jordan
was going home tonight and he could just ask her at her home in the
morning. He HAD to know.

Mulder sat in the car with a stern look on his face all the way to their
hotel. Scully just looked at him sympathetically.
“I’m sure it’s not the same bear Mulder.” There was a long silence. “It’s
been so long.” Scully said quietly. “Besides where would she get it?”
Scully said more reassuringly. “You said Samantha had her bear with her
when she was...taken.”
Mulder just looked at Scully.
“I know...but it is just to much of a coincidence.” Mulder said.
There was another long silence after Mulder finished his sentence. That was
unusual because Scully usually had an explanation for EVERYTHING.

The Lee’s home
9:00 PM
Back at her home, Jordan’s parents had left her side just long enough to
eat a late dinner and also to allow their daughter to get some rest. Jordan
just laid in the bed holding the bear in her hands just looking at it.
“Samantha said he might recognize you.” Jordan said confidentially to the
bear. “Oh Rutheford! I wish I could tell someone so bad. I hate lying to
everyone, especially my parents. I want to tell someone but then I’ll get
in trouble like I did last time. I told Jenny, my friend, and I ended up
missing. You’re the only one I can tell.” She hugged the bear, closed her
eyes and fell asleep.

Mulder’s Hotel room
10:30pm
Mulder had gotten ready for bed early, well at least for him, and he was
lying in bed trying to piece together all of the evidence. They still
hadn’t figured out how Jordan had left her home, how she got to the forest,
and how she was found in the grove later when the police had sworn they had
searched the grove earlier. She wasn’t even cold which seemed to stun the
doctor. Surely all night with only a nightgown would make her a little
cold. But one question still burned in his mind...Where did Jordan get that
bear? All of the sudden he thought, she has sleepwalked a lot, maybe, just
maybe, she would go out tonight again.
Mulder got dressed and headed out to the grove.

Back at the Lee’s home Mr. and Mrs. Lee had gone to bed about 9:00. They
had checked on their daughter multiple times and double bolted the door.
They weren’t going to take any more chances. They were sound asleep, and in
the little room next to them where a little girl was supposedly sleeping,
was an empty bed.

Storicher Grove
11:00 PM
Mulder had gotten out of the car and was wrapping his coat around his
waist trying to fight the freezing air whirling around him. He tried to
find the place where Jordan was found in hopes she might be there again. He
didn’t find anything. Just then the wind picked up, it seemed to be coming
from the gorge.
He started running to the gorge, crunching through the leaves. At the edge
of the grove Mulder could barely see the edge of the grove. For one thing
the light was too bright. LIGHT?! At this time of night. Mulder glanced
into the sky shielding his eyes. All he could see was a bright light. One
that he had only seen a few times before. He took his gaze off of the light
and tried once again to focus at the edge of the cliff. He could just start
to make out a small figure. JORDAN! Not daring to advance out of the grove
he just stood there helplessly watching as the light, still the same in
magnitude lifted Jordan off the ground. Then once the wind had calmed down
and again, all was dark. Mulder’s eyes took a while to readjust from bright
light to hardly any at all. When they did he walked over to the edge of the
cliff and started looking around for something... anything that Jordan
might have dropped or left. It starting getting to cold for Mulder and he
reluctantly walked back to his car. How anyone could survive the night out
in the cold without freezing was beyond him. But he now knew that that was
no longer an issue.
Mulder tried to sleep that night but all he could think of was what he
saw, what was it and how was he going to explain it to Scully? She would
probably try to give a good explanation for it anyway. No matter how he
thought of it, it was going to be hard to explain.

The next morning Mulder got up, went and got Scully and they headed out to
the Lee’s house. He wouldn’t tell her just yet, he would wait until her
got to the house and they would find Jordan missing then he would tell them
where she was. They walked up to the door. Mrs. Lee answered.
“Is Jordan missing?” Mulder asked without hesitation
“Why...no.” Mrs. Lee paused. “She’s eating breakfast. Why do you ask?”
Scully just looked at Mulder as she always did when Mulder seemed to ask
his crazy questions. “You look surprised Mulder, like you thought she
wouldn’t be here.”
Mulder just ignored the comment. “Was the door locked this morning when you
got up?”
“Yea, why?” Mrs. Lee asked accusingly.
“What is all this about Mulder?” Scully asked seeming a little annoyed.
“May we come in and sit down? I have something to tell you.” Mulder said
shooting a glance at Scully.
“Sure.” Mrs. Lee said looking at Scully questionably.
They walked into the family room and sat down.
Mulder started explaining, “Last night I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking
about Jordan and thought since she was home that night that she just might
sleep walk again.” Mulder paused. “You said the door was locked this morning?”
“Yes, Mr. Mulder, but I don’t see what you are saying. Jordan was here
this morning she was fine.”
Mulder took another deep breath. “So last night I thought Jordan might
sleep walk again so I went to the grove. I got to the spot where they found
Jordan but she wasn’t there...”
	“Mulder!” Scully said.
Mulder put up his hand and continued, “But then I saw a light coming from
the gorge. When I got through the trees I saw Jordan standing...on the edge
of the cliff. There was a light coming from the sky. It was to bright to
see where the light was coming from. Then Jordan was gone.”
He stopped and glanced at Scully and then at Mrs. Lee. He didn’t know what
to say, and for once, neither did Scully.
Mrs. Lee just stared unbelieving at Mulder. “But that’s impossible, Jordan
was in her bed all night.”
“Are you sure it was all night?” Mulder questioned.
“Well I did check on her a few times once about 10:00pm then again at
4:00am this morning.”
Scully, breaking her silence, asked, “Mulder what time did you go to the
gorge?"
	“About 11:00pm”
Sleepy eyed, Jordan wandered into the room one hand rubbing her eyes and in
the other, of course, the teddy bear.
Immediately Mulder glanced at the bear.
“Hi Mr. Mulder, Hi Miss Scully.” Said Jordan.
“Jordan?” Mulder said jumping right in. “Do you remember anything last
night?”
	“No...why?”
“Honey, Mr. Mulder said he saw you sleep walking in the...woods last night.”
Jordan glanced at Mulder as she clung the bear tighter in her arms.
“Can I talk to Jordan alone?” Mulder asked. He knew he could talk to
Jordan without getting any “I don’t believe what you are saying looks”
“Sure.” Mrs. Lee said reluctantly. “I’ll go make some lemonade.”
“I’ll help.” Scully said as she glanced back at Mulder while following
Mrs. Lee to the kitchen.
“Jordan, you don’t remember anything from last night?” Mulder asked again
as soon as they were out of the room.
Jordan glanced around the room nervously. “Not really Mr. Mulder.”
“Jordan, you need to tell me the truth. What happened last night?”
“I can’t tell you!” Jordan said sounding a little more nervous.
	“Why not?” Mulder asked.
“Cause I’ll get in trouble.” Jordan said softly.
“I won’t get you in trouble.” Mulder said.
“No, not you.” Jordan said a little softer.
Not letting the subject die, Mulder kept asking questions, “Can you at
least tell me who gave you the bear?”
Jordan now had her head down and just shook it from side to side.
In a softer tone Mulder said, “I’ll make sure nothing happens to you if you
tell me.”
Jordan looked up at Mulder. “Really!?” She said hopefully.
Mulder nodded.
In the kitchen Scully was explaining to Mrs. Lee why Mulder sometimes,
well almost always, had these crazy ideas. She explained about his sister’s
“abduction” as he called it. Scully took the tray from Mrs. Lee as they
walked into the family room. Scully stopped in the door way. The room was
empty.
	“Mulder?” Scully asked.
She set the tray down on an empty table.
	“Mulder?” Scully called again.
Mrs. Lee and Scully searched throughout the house and outside but they were
no where to be found. Mulder’s car was still there but there was still no
sign of them anywhere. Scully dialed Mulder’s cell phone but there wasn’t
any answer. What was stranger was there didn’t seem to be what sounded like
a connection on the other end.
“He took her.” Mrs. Lee said sounding frightened.
“I don’t see why Mulder would do that.” Scully said, “It just doesn’t
sound like Mulder.” She paused, “I’ll call for back-up.”
Within 20 minutes there were police forces searching the perimeter and all
around the town for the two missing. They even checked the gorge many
times. After 2 hours of searching they still weren’t having any luck.
Scully was still at Mrs. Lee’s house trying to comfort her once again while
they waited for something, anything on Mulder or Jordan. Scully had tried
Mulder’s cell phone numerous times but every time she got the same thing,
nothing.
After a long period of nothing being spoken Mrs. Lee said, “Maybe we’re not
looking in the right place.”
“Where else could we look?” Scully asked trying to see what Mrs. Lee meant.
Mrs. Lee simply pointed to her ceiling.
“No, you don’t actually believe Mulder do you Mrs. Lee?”
“Miss Scully, we’re running out of options.”

Mulder opened his eyes.
It was pitch black except for one little light above him. He sat up and was
a little surprised that there weren’t any restraints trying to hold him
down. He gave his eyes a couple of minutes to adjust to the darkness. He
looked around the room. The room was circular with one light on the ceiling
in the middle and many smaller ones around the room over the tables that
were just like the one Mulder was on. Black, cold tables that were all
empty except for his and the one next to him. Jordan’s little body lay
there almost lifeless. He reached over and gently shook her. She woke up,
looked around and sighed.
	“Here again.” She breathed.
“Is this where you’ve been going?” Mulder asked.
“Yea, for about a month now.” Before Mulder could ask his next question
she continued, “Yes I remember every time I was taken I just couldn’t tell
anyone or They would...punish me.”
	“Punish you?” Mulder questioned.
Jordan just nodded. “They...knew when I told someone what was happening to
me and they would take me and do all sorts of tests on me.”
“What sorts of tests?” Mulder asked.
“That’s the only part I don’t remember.” Jordan said looking around.
Mulder was just about to ask her more about her tests when something else
caught his attention. A door on the opposite side of the room opened and
light flooded the room. Only a silhouette could be seen. To Mulder’s
surprise it had the shape, not of an alien form, but of a human much like
Jordan’s size. The figure slowly walked toward Mulder with something in its
arms.

Despite what Scully said, Mrs. Lee still wanted to look for Mulder and
Jordan in other places besides the ground. Scully decided that it was
useless to try to argue with her so she called in a radar team to search
the skies. No sooner had they set up their equipment when they found
something, “out of the ordinary.” They tracked the “object” and found that
it was hovering over the gorge, which was weird because the searchers had
looked near, around, and down in the gorge many times. Police, medical and
search units were all sent out to the site but nothing could be seen.
Again, radar was set up.
“Sir,” said one of the officers to Sergeant Deavers. “The radar seems to
be showing some sort of malfunction. It says the flying object is here but
it can’t be seen.”
Even though it was light outside one of the officers fired a flare into the
area where the object was said to be. The flare collided with the alien’s
ship and it could now be seen by all who watched.

Inside the ship the figure continued to walk toward Mulder until it could
be seen under his light. Mulder’s face changed from wonder to amazement and
back to wonder again as the figure came into focus.
	“Samantha!!??” Mulder whispered.
“Yea, It’s me Fox.” She said.
	“But how....I mean...” Mulder stuttered.
“You saw Fox. You were there with me.”
“Why didn’t they bring you back like they did with Jordan?” Mulder asked.
“They said that I was crucial in their plans and I couldn’t return until I
wasn’t needed anymore.” She said almost sadly.
“Come with me now! They don’t need you anymore.” Mulder said more boldly.
“They’ve had you long enough.”
“Fox,” Samantha said calmly, “I don’t belong down there anymore.”
Before anymore could be said the jolt from the flare shook the ship.
Samantha looked around. The door to the room opened and about a dozen small
alien-like figures scurried through and grabbed Jordan and Mulder. The
“aliens” realized that they had been seen and they had to get Mulder and
Jordan back as soon as possible or risk more exposure. Mulder tried to
fight them off but to no avail.
“Samantha!” He said reaching out for her. “Come with me!”
“I can’t Fox, I told you I don’t belong there anymore.” Samantha said not
changing the tone of her voice.
Suddenly her face changed. “Fox wait!”
Mulder tried to turn and face her.
She ran up as close as she could to Mulder. “Here Fox.” She said handing
him the object that was in her hands.
“Samantha,” He cried as tears welled up in his eyes.
“Don’t worry Fox, I’ll be fine.” She said as he was pushed further and
further away from his sister.
The last thing he saw was Samantha, solemnly standing with tears in her
eyes watching Mulder, who this time was being taken away by the aliens.

Back on the ground a commotion had started. Police had positioned
themselves with their weapons ready to fire on the target found by the flare.
“No! Don’t shoot. Mulder and Jordan may be up there.” Scully said, which
surprised even herself that those words had come from HER mouth.
The police teams seemed to ignore her as they maintained their position,
but before the first shoot could be fired there was a bright flash and then
stillness.
“Sir,” said the officer sitting by the radar. “It’s gone.”
“Lower your weapons.” Sergeant Deavers called. “It’s gone.”
Mrs. Lee started to cry. “They took my Jordan.”
All Scully could do was embrace Mrs. Lee. Tears began to well up in
Scully’s eyes as she thought about Mulder as well.
	“Wait!” Scully said.
She let go of Mrs. Lee and ran toward the grove. The others just stood
there for a minute and looked at each other. Then they began to follow her.
“I found them, over here!” Scully yelled.
When the others caught up to Scully she was on her knees feeling for a
pulse on Mulder and Jordan.
She gently shook them as Mrs. Lee joined her by her side. Jordan didn’t
respond but Mulder started to slowly wake up. He placed his hand on his
head and gave a little moan. Scully just breathed a sigh of relief. He
looked over at Jordan.
“Will she be ok?” Mulder asked.
“She’ll be fine Mulder..., how are you?” Scully asked.
Muler didn’t answer her, he just glanced up through the trees and up to the
sky.
“What happened up there Mulder?” Scully asked glancing at the bear and
then at Mulder?
Mulder simply answered, “I found Samantha.”
Those were the last words muttered between the two as they both looked up
to the sky.
