"Satellite"
by Amatia

I did not come back to kill. That was not my intent.

But holding that controller in my hand...I have to confess that I
love the feeling of power. And that's the key, isn't it? That's the reason
I joined them. To achieve power, power I knew could not be attained if I
stayed in the FBI.

The power I have now is not the power I wanted then.

I gave Skinner the disease so that he would serve me. It's like
what I told Mulder that night - he could either resist or serve. If Skinner
resisted, he would know, and he would have only twenty-four hours to remedy
his mistake - or die.

I need to have Mulder on the X-Files, and soon, or there will be no
chance of defeating the timetable. They tell me that Mulder's involvement
will only speed up the time we have left until colonization, but I believe
the opposite is true. What can one man possibly do that will cause them to
release the virus sooner? And as for the colonists, I have yet to figure
out why they chose bees to carry out their despicable plan. Bees, and corn.
It's utterly insane! To all our knowledge, it used to take at least a
hundred milliliters of the black cancer to infect a person. The amount in a
bee sting is minute compared to that, and now it's enough to create a
living creature out of?

I'm getting off-topic, the black cancer has nothing to do with the
nanoprobe technology that Dr. Orgel infected AD Skinner with. And The
Syndicate has absolutely nothing to do with the NPT test I ran on Skinner.
It was a project of mine, and I now control the men who want it. Senator
Matheson, for example. By infecting Skinner with the NPT, I made it
impossible for SR819 to pass in the Senate. Now, whomever wants the
technology has to go through me. And this time I will not hand it over like
I did with the vaccine for the black cancer.

You ask why I didn't let Skinner die.

He summed it up quite correctly when he told Scully that if he died
now, he died in vain. He can still be an ally to them, more an ally than he
has been in the past. That was why I killed the man who was trying to kill
him in the parking garage - a man that the Syndicate sent.

I know that my picture was on surviellance cameras, and I refuse to
believe that Mulder didn't recognize me. He's not that stupid that a
disguise will fool him. I know that he has resources at the FBI that will
manipulate pictures, and Mulder is, if nothing else, resourceful.

Do my arguments sound foolish to you? Do I sound crazy, maniacal?
You ask the true reason for my actions. You ask for the truth.

The truth, the truth...there is no truth.

There is no truth except for the fact that nothing can make me
betray Fox Mulder ever again. I am through betraying the man who I love.
For once in my life, I will be loyal to something, to someone. Mulder is a
planet, and I am his far-away satellite. But at the moment we are in
eclipse, I am hidden, and the sun stands between us.
