CATEGORY: V RATING: I'll err on the side of caution and say PG. SUMMARY: Scully contemplates her relationship with Mulder. Contains a spoiler for the third season episode Irresistable. Saturday Night Musings by Denise Lacy Scully sat curled up on her couch covered with a throw against the slight chill in the air, reading the latest issue of The Journal of Forensic Pathology. Or at least trying to read it. After realizing she had read the same sentence three times and still didn't know what it said, she closed the Journal to let her mind wander where it would. What was going on between her and Mulder? She realized many times Mulder did thing to protect her, and being honest with herself had to admit she sometimes did the same thing to him. But where were they headed? The desire to protect someone you care for is universal, but shouldn't they trust each other enough to be honest about the motives behind their protectiveness? She thought back to when she had been troubled enough to talk with the Employee Assistance Program counselor during the Donnie Pfaster case. She had been almost ashamed by how much the case bothered her. She worked on dead bodies all of the time. Why had this case been so different? It was the sheer horror of it, she admitted to herself. The realization that human monsters existed. People who took pleasure in things too horrible to contemplate. Her need to protect Mulder from the intensity of her feelings stemmed from her abhorrence of him feeling the need to protect her. She was a grown woman, a trained FBI agent. If Mulder was ever hurt or killed because he was trying to protect her she could never live with the guilt. By contrast she had to admit, if anything ever happened to her or Mulder and the other one hadn't done everything in their power to protect the other, neither one of them would be able to live with themselves. So. Mulder was a complicated man. At times the many facets of his motivations blurred and he became totally focused on his target, without regard to anyone or anything else. And when you were the target of his focus...a delicious shiver ran through Scully. He was a hunk, she had to admit. When had she quit even bothering to look at other men? It was true none could compare with Mulder, his intellect, his attractiveness, his vulnerability. But what about her desires for a husband? Children? Her biological clock was ticking. Was she ready to give up those dreams to chase goblins with the man of her dreams who was unavailable to her? The man of her dreams? Where had that thought come from? Was it true? Was she in love with Fox Mulder? There was a knock at the door. "Scully, it's me." Dana opened the door and there stood Mulder holding a bouquet of flowers. He smiled and said, "I've been thinking this evening. We need to talk." End
