And, I told my bestest best friend that I would dedicate this to her, so, this is dedicated to Jenna Renee. Oh, and I made up this characters all by myself, and I've never even heard of Chris Carter or the Fox network. Or, maybe I'm a compulsive liar. Anywho, they don't belong to me, they never have, and they never will. Saving Himself By Christyn Fox Mulder awoke in a cold sweat. He had the dream again. The one with the bright lights and Samantha. The one where she was taken. But, lately, the dreams were different. Oh, most things were the same; bright lights, aliens, the feeling of utter helplessness. But there was one key element missing from all of this. Samantha. Samantha was no longer in his dreams. She had been replaced by Scully. Dana Scully. In his dreams a small eight year old girl was crying out his name, but a few weeks ago this had all changed. Mulder now heard only the desperate cries of his partner over his answering machine. Mulder was unsure of what this meant. Even his psychology degree couldn't help him. Samantha was everything, she was his life's quest. Why had she disappeared so suddenly? As Mulder had these thoughts, things began to fall into place. Samantha had been his guiding light. His life was for her, his quest, was all in hopes of finding her. But Samantha was slipping away. Just as she had 26 years ago. But this time, it wasn't little green men, or government conspirators that took her. It was a sudden filling of his heart. Ever since Samantha, Mulder had been afraid of getting close, letting his emotions show. But when Scully was assigned to him, things began to change. Little by little, his heart began to fill with love. Love for Scully. Mulder bolted upright at that last thought. He tried to shake it off, but, somewhere along the way, he had fallen in love with Scully. His quest had changed. His quest was no longer to find Samantha, to protect her from harm. Sure, Mulder knew he would always look for Samantha, but she was no longer his light in the dark. His quest was for the truth, as it had always been, but now it was for truth for Scully. To find the people behind her abduction. To save her. Mulder knew that in saving Scully, he would save himself. Should there be a second part?
