Scene We'll Never Get to See
by Lee Burwasser <lee46b@gateway.net>

[hospital room, Doggett in bed, wakes up]
[cut to Scully, Skinner and Gibson Praise standing over him]

PAISE: He's awake.

SKINNER: Good. Agent Doggett, can you hear me?

DOGGETT: Uh . . . Yeah . . .

Sk: Good. Do you remember what happened?

Dg: Uh . . . Mmm . . . [cut back to Doggett in bed] Green! [tries
to sit up, falls back]
Green! I shot him, and he oozed green!

[three-shot, Doggett, Scully and Praise]

Sc: Then you know it wasn't Mulder. I've shot Mulder myself, and he
does *not* ooze green.

Dg: No. I guess . . . No.

Sc: Mr Praise has identified your target as a man we know only as the
Bounty Hunter. [smiles sadly at Praise]

Pr [earnestly]: You did the best you could. The best anybody could do.

[Scully smiles again, turns back to Doggett, all business]

Sc: We had some experts go over the documentation. The rental receipts
and the credit card purchases are real. The medical records were hacked
into his file. Very expertly,
too, but it's hard to slip things into Mulder's medical file. There's
so much there already.

[Doggett does not respond]

Sc: So, as a serious man, you have a choice of scenarios.
One: This species, with metabolism so different from ours that it's
toxic, evolved side-by-side with us on this planet, arriving at
capabilities equal to our own, yet
throughout history and prehistory, we never encountered them. From the
Voyages of Discovery to now, we have not found their home, nor any other
species with similar metabolism.
   Two: They arrived here recently.

[cut to the three standing over Doggett]

Sk: Agent Scully and I are enjoined from discussing the second
scenario, but you can ask Kersh when you get back to DC. You might also
ask him if Spender, Sr is still alive.
He'll know what that means.
