X-Files Basement Office
February 23, 2000

Scully entered the basement office to see Mulder
with a small blue box. "I hope this isn't another
key chain."

Mulder laughed. "I promise you - it's not a key
chain. It's better than a key chain." Mulder watched
Scully's luscious lips form a quick smile as he handed
her the blue, velvety box and a card entitled, "Dana"

"Dana? You always call me 'Scully' - is there something
wrong, Mulder?"

"No."

"You're not dying - are you?" inquired Scully, as her
face quickly formed a look of concern for Mulder.

"Absolutely not. Come on, Scully, open the package.
I'm waiting."

Scully opened the box to reveal a diamond ring and then
she looked up at Mulder, rendered speechless.

"Scully, will you marry me?"

Scully nodded. "Of course I will!" She watched as Mulder
slipped the ring on her finger as she watched the ring
shone brightly under the lights. "How did you know my
ring size?"

"I asked your mother," said Mulder with a smile. He
took her in his arms for a warm, tender embrace. "Do
you love the ring?"

Scully's lips form into a quick smile. "Yes, I do. It
must have cost a fortune."

"You're worth it, Scully." Mulder gave a short pause.
"Read the card."

They broke the embrace as she opened the card to
reveal a handwritten letter inside. Scully turned
to face Mulder as he read the letter out loud. "Scully,
you're my everything. My soul-mate. Now you're my
family. I love you, Dana Katherine Scully. Mulder."
A short pause. "It's true, Scully. You're my family."

"And this has got to be the best birthday I ever had,"
said Scully. "And I love you, Mulder."

End of Vignette.

Author's Notes:

Today is Dana Scully's birthday, and I wanted to write another
"Scully's Birthday" story. In "A Special Birthday Present," Mulder
gave her a desk. I wondered what he could possibly give her this
year? That's when the idea of an engagement story and a tie-in to
"Closure" would be more appropriate this year. After everything's
said and done, Scully's the only one left as far as Mulder's concerned.
I know they love each other (yes, I'm a Shipper) and after watching
"Closure", the most logical thing in their relationship is a marriage
between Mulder and Scully. Of course, I've been thinking *that* for
years! =)
