Summary: Mulder asks Scully for help. She helps him. But when things take an unexpected turn, who's going to help her? Disclaimer: Nope, not mine. CC & 1013 own them a little bit. Okay, okay, a lot. Oh, and I borrowed Ellen too. Remember, Scully's friend? Set Up by Agent Spooky Dana Scully's apartment Saturday, 10:21am "I'm finished", announces my partner sitting back on the couch and closing his eyes. "Well, I'm not", I say with a hint of annoyance. "Come on Scully, making an expense report is not that hard", he smiles smugly at me. I glare at him. "That's because you took the easiest one for yourself." "Tell you what, why don't I make us a cup of coffee?" I nod my thanks and he gets up. On his way to the kitchen someone knocks at my door. "Could you get that?" I ask, not taking my eyes off of my laptop. I hear him talking with someone and look up to see who it is. Then I see my partner and my next-door neighbor, Darlene-I'm-all-breasts-and-no-brain, chatting happily in my kitchen. I decide to get up and see what's going on. "Hey, Dana," says Darlene, "I was out of sugar and came by to see if you could borrow me some." "Sure, I'll get it," I say opening my cupboard. From the corner of my eye I can see her looking at Mulder up and down, and Mulder, well, is just looking down at her. I finally find the sugar and give it to her. "Thanks Dana. I'll bring a piece of the cake for you when it's ready. Bye." "Bye," I say openning the door. "Bye, Fox," she says practically purring. "B-bye," says my jaw-dropped partner. I close the door and lift my eyebrow "Fox?" He shrugged. "She asked my name." I walk back to my living room and sit in front of my laptop. Mulder stays in the kitchen making coffee. "I don't remember seeing her before." "See moved in next door a couple weeks ago." He brings two cups of coffee and sets one in front of me. "So, do you know each other well?" "Not really. We met briefly." "Oh," he sounds disappointed. I look up at him "Why? You wanted me to set you up on a date or something?" "Would you?" I hesitade. "Mulder I..." "Forget it, Scully. I was just kidding," he says, although he didn't look like he was. After Mulder finished his coffee and I finally finished my expense report, he went home. I thought about my neighbor and Mulder's request. He said he was just kidding, but I know him too well. Maybe I could set him up on a date with her. God knows he deserves a little fun. So I do just that. I talk to my neighbor about going on a date with my friend whom she met at my apartment and she eagerly says 'yes'. I phone Mulder to tell him about the news. I tell him her phone number and he thanks me. We hang up and all it's fine with the world. Or so I thought. ***************************** FBI Headquarters 12:03pm It's been a month since Mulder started dating that bimbo. It's all he talks about. 'Darlene said, Darlene did, blah blah blah'. She even calls our office. At least twice. A day. She already called two times today. Just then, the phone rings and Mulder picks it up. "Hey baby." That'd be time three. I mentally will myself not to roll my eyes. He hangs up the phone and looks at me. "Hey, Scully?" "What?" I say harsher than I intended. He looks taken aback. "Darlene and I are going to lunch. Wanna come with us?" "No, thank you. I'm just going to finish up here and go home. I'm not feeling too well," I lie. Well, it's not really a lie. I am feeling a bit nauseated. My partner is instantly concerned, crouching beside me and feeling my forehead. "You are a bit warm. Come on, I'll drive you home." I am warm, Mulder. But not from what you think. "Mulder, I'm fine. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Besides, I still have somethings I need to finish before I go." He looks uncertain. "Go on, Mulder. Go have lunch. I'm fine. Really." He slowly gets up. "If you're sure..." "I am," I smile and he walks out, closing the door behind him, and I feel like crying because if a month ago I had said I wasn't well, no matter how hard I tried to convince him that was nothing to worry about, he would have never walked out. "Oh, God, what did I do?" I whisper to myself "How am I going to get out of this mess?" Suddenly, a light comes on in my head. I need help. And I know exactly whose help I need. Dana Scully's apartment 03:12pm I'm pacing my apartment for the thousandth time when I hear a knock at my door. I practically run to open it. "Hi Dana!" "Hi Ellen," I say and we hug. "Come on in." She does and we sit on the couch. "It's been a long time," she says smiling, "you look well." "You too." "And sad," she says. "I am sad," she nods, "and upset, and desperate, and in love and-" "You're what?!" she almost shouts. "I'm in love Ellen. And I didn't realized it until it was too late." "Why don't you tell me what happened." Half an hour later we are sitting at my kitchen table, drinking coffee. "So you set him up on a date." "Yes. What was I thinking?" "You were thinking about his happiness. You wanted him to be happy." "Yes, I did. I do. But I want him to be happy with *me*," I bury my head in my hands, "Ellen, what am I going to do?" "Did you ever think about telling him?" I peer between my fingers "I can't tell him. It's not fair. Not now that he found someone he likes." "You've got nothing to loose, Dana. Worst case scenario he'd say he doesn't feel the same way." "Or we can loose our friendship, our partnership and everything we've built for the past six years," I say miserably. "Maybe, but if you don't tell him how you feel you could also loose your chance of living happily ever after." I chuckle. "You sound like a cheap fairy-tale." "Then run Princess Dana and tell your knight in shining armor how you feel about him or loose him to the wicked witch forever." Scully's apartment 08:09pm After Ellen left, I phoned Mulder and asked if he could drop by. He said he was on his way. I decided to listen to Ellen and tell him how I feel. He should be here any minute now. A knock at the door startles and I get up to answer it. My partner, at least for now because I don't know if I will still have a partner when all this is over, stands at the other side. "Come in." He does and we sit on the couch. "Mulder, the reason I asked you to come here is because I need to tell you something." "I need to tell you something too." "Let me go first or I'm afraid I'll loose my nerve," he nods for me to go on, "I should have said this a long time ago, but I didn't realized it until you started dating Charlene." "Darlene." "Whatever. The point is that I miss you. I miss the time when there were only the two of us. I miss the lunches we had together and the movies we watched Friday nights and the jokes we made about each other tastes in movies," I take a breath and continue, "what I'm trying to say is that I-I love you," his eyes widen a little, "I'm in love with you, I guess I was since the beginning, but only realized it now," I can't look at him anymore so I stare at my lap. Then I feel two fingers gently lifting my head until I'm looking in the eyes of Fox Mulder. "I have something to tell you too." "What is it?" "Darlene and I broke up." "Why?" "Well, like you Scully, I didn't realized it until now but everything that Darlene said or did I'd think 'this is not what Scully would do' or 'this is not what Scully would say' and then I realized that I couldn't be happy with her or any other woman for that matter." My eyes are watering. "Why?" I say so low that almost I didn't hear it. But he did. He always does. "Because she wasn't you." I don't know if I want to laugh, cry or hug him so I do all three at the same time. "I love you Scully, always have." And then we kissed. I don't know if we are going to have that happily ever after fairy-tale kind. I know there are going to be bumps and turns along the way. But of one thing I'm certain, we will always be together. And that is happily ever after to me. THE END
