Summary: Mulder is restless at work, and he keeps bothering Scully. They share a dance. Spoilers: None Disclaimer: Here I go yet again. The characters of Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, and AD Skinner do not belong to me. They belong to Chris Carter, Fox Entertainment, and 1013 Productions (~I made this!~). No copyright infringement was intended, so please don't sue me. I'm just borrowing them and will return them at the end of the story, although I bet they will be a little happier in my story than CC keeps them! Also, no infringement was intended by the use of a Garth Brooks song. The song "She's Every Woman" can be found on Garth's Fresh Horses CD. I don't own Garth, although I wish I did, nor do I own the song. I just love it! Dedication: Well, this is my second Mulder/Scully romance story. After this, I am going to work on making my first story into a series. My first story is called "To Get Me To You" and should be archived soon on Gossamer. That will also be the name of my series. I would like to thank my mother for continually supporting my writing. I would also like to thank her for going to see the X-Files movie with me, even though she doesn't watch the series! Thanks also to my nephews, Brian and Brandon, for giving me enough peace in the day to complete this story, even though it is a romance...YUK! * * * She's Every Woman They had sat doing paperwork for the last three hours, and Agent Fox Mulder felt as if he were going to die. There was no feeling left in his legs from his waist to his toes, and there was also a large red mark on his face from where his head had been resting in his hand for the past hour. The words in front of him began to swim before his tired eyes. 'Sleep. Sleep would be so nice right now. Anything would be nice at this point as long as it doesn't have anything to do with paperwork.' Mulder moved around in his seat, trying to get into a more comfortable position, not that one actually existed. His movement caused the papers on his lap to rustle, and Dana Scully's Irish blue eyes rose to look at him over her computer. She saw the pain he was in as he grimaced in frustration at his work, and a smile appeared across her face. "Having problems, Mulder?" Her hand rose to try to cover the smile on her face, not quite totally concealing it. "Yeah, Scully. My ass is killing me. Other than that, life is fan-tastic!" Mulder stood up slowly and walked across the office, massaging his hind quarters as he went. He strolled behind Scully's little workspace to gaze over her shoulder at what she was working on. Her strength amazed him; the way she could sit for hours in silence and concentrate solely on the work in front of her. She hardly made a noise as far as he could tell. Scully noticed his presence behind her back and craned her neck to face him. "Is there something I can do for you Mulder?" She gave him her best annoyed-Scully look. "Me? Oh, I'm just standing here...admiring the work of my partner...my protegee." Mulder waited for the look that he expected Scully to glare at him, but instead received a slap across his lower leg. "Ouch! What was that for?" He rubbed his leg and gave her his best puppy dog pouty face, determined to make her feel as guilty as possible. It didn't work. "Oh, please! You're lucky that's all you got this time! Go sit down and work Mulder. We need to get this done before Skinner has our hides." Scully quickly repositioned her glasses and turned back to her glowing computer screen. Mulder lightly squeezed her shoulder and slowly shuffled back to his desk and the papers that were arranged on them. With a sigh, he sat down and tried to concentrate again. * * * ~15 Minutes Later 'Pencils. My pencils really need to be sharpened. And I have three half empty bottles of white-out in this desk. That's so odd too because I never use it. Scully must use it, although I can't imagine what she would use it for. She's always on the computer. Maybe it's the little green men! No, wait, I take that back. They're little gray men.' Mulder looked up to ponder his partner who was still hard at work. The glow of the computer screen lit her glasses with blue fire. She looked incredible that day as his eyes wandered silently over her face. 'What am I thinking? She looks incredible every day. Every day we work together, she gets more and more stunning. What an amazing woman.' At this point, Scully looked up from her computer and caught Mulder's eye on her. "What?" "What do you mean what? I'm just sitting here, minding my own business." Mulder folded his hands in front of him and gave her an angelic look; the picture of innocence. "You were looking at me, that's what! What has gotten into you? You're acting so weird Mulder. Well, weirder than usual!" "Oh gee thanks! Really, I was just noticing how 'spooky' you look when the computer screen reflects off your glasses." He raised an eyebrow at her, smirking his usual lopsided grin. "Spooky, Mulder? I thought that was your department! Anyway, please stop bugging me. I only have about half an hour of work left, and I would like to get it done in the near future!" Mulder threw his head back and chuckled at his partner who was so eager to finish her work, even at the price of having a little fun. 'Man she's funny. Funny and beautiful. I think I could spend the rest of my life looking at Dana Scully. Dana Scully. Daaaaaaaana Sculllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy... What a cool name. What a cool person. I can't believe that I'm lucky enough to have her in my life. Okay, c'mon Mulder. Work!' * * * ~ 5 Minutes Later "Hey Scully!" Mulder leaned back in his chair and laced his fingers behind his head, grinning. Scully's head hit the desk as she sighed loudly. "Now what Mulder? What this time?" She picked her head up and glared at him. "Don't get so touchy! I just wondered if you ever thought about turning on a slow song and dancing right here in this office. Ever think about it?" "No, Mulder," Scully said shaking her head. "I don't believe that has ever crossed my mind...why? What do you have brewing in that mixed up brain of yours?" Scully couldn't help the smile that crossed her face. "Well see, I happen to have this tape here, and it occurred to me that there's a song on it that suits you perfectly. So anyway...care to dance?" Mulder stood up, slid the tape into the tape player, and offered his partner his hand. "Please?" Scully gazed up at him and decided to go along with his idea. Sliding her hand into his, Scully stood up as Mulder pressed the play button. He placed his hand on her lower back and pulled her to him as he picked up her hand and held it to his chest. Scully placed her hand on his shoulder and leaned her head lightly against him. The music began to filter around the room, softly so that the tune was only for them and no one else outside their tiny office. Mulder and Scully began to sway, holding tightly to each other while the soft voice of Garth Brooks breezed around them... She's sun and rain She's fire and ice A little crazy, but it's nice And when she gets mad you best leave her alone Cause she'll rage just like a river Then she'll beg you to forgive her Oh she's every woman that I've ever known She's so New York And then LA And every town along the way And she's every place that I've never been She's making love on rainy nights She's a stroll through Christmas lights And she's everything I wanna do again And it needs no explanation Cause it all makes perfect sense For when it comes down to temptation She's on both sides of the fence No, it needs no explanation Cause it all makes perfect sense For when it comes down to temptation She's on both sides of the fence She's anything but typical She's so unpredictable Oh, but even at her worst, she ain't that bad. She's as real as real can be And she's every fantasy Lord, she's every lover that I've ever had And she's every lover that I've never had... The music had stopped minutes before, but Mulder and Scully continued to hold onto each other. Slowly Scully lifted her head from Mulder's chest and looked into his eyes. "Thank you for the dance Fox. That song meant a lot to me. It was beautiful." Mulder ran a hand through Scully's red hair, "Anything for you Dana." Slowly Mulder leaned down and softly kissed Scully's lips. Pulling away gently after a few moments of utter bliss, Mulder looked into Scully's eyes. "So, what do you say we pack up the rest of our work and head for home? I feel like taking my wife out for dinner!" Scully stepped back and began gathering up her belongings. "Your wife? I had no idea that you were married!" "Well, in this building I'm not married. My wife and I try to keep it a secret. However, the minute we step outside the doors, the transformation is amazing!" Mulder packed his papers into his briefcase and threw his jacket over his shoulder. "The transformation? Whatever does that mean?" Scully cleaned off the desk and straightened up the clutter. "Oh you know. The change from plain old Fox Mulder and Dana Scully into Mr. and Mrs. Mulder that happens when we leave here." "Oh, that change! I remember that now! Alright, Mr. Mulder, let's get out of here. I'm starving!" Scully switched the lights off as she walked out the door. "So honey," Mulder smirked, "What are you making for dinner tonight?" He ran ahead of her to avoid getting smacked again. Scully yelled down the hallway, "Nothin' doin' buddy! You promised to take me out and I'm holding you to it! Mulder? Mulder get back here!" The door closed and locked and the sound of Scully's footsteps could be heard retreating quickly down the hallway, calling after her husband as she ran. ~The End~
