I promise that I'll get back to you as soon as I can. This takes place during Christmas 1998. Just pretend "The End" never happened. Now, onto my story! The Skating Lesson By Sandra It was only two days since Skinner had sent them up there, and Scully was already miserable. Usually she loved New York, especially at Christmas, but not this time, not on this trip. Maybe it was because she had always gone up with her family as a child, or with a "someone else". This was different though. This time she was alone, except for Mulder. *Well, he'd work as a boyfriend. I wish!* she thought to herself. As she and Mulder walked side by side past Rockefellar Center, she coudn't help but pause and gaze longingly at the ice skating rink down below them. He noticed her pause and stopped his yammering about the case and the dead ends it produced. "Hey Scully, you still with me?" he asked her. "Yeah, it just brings back memories. That's all," she replied. "What, the ice skating rink? Why?" was all he could come up with. He hated to see her sad, and that's exactly what this longing gaze was. Her "Gee I wish I could be doing that" look. He had been noticing it from her more and more these past two days they had spent in New York. Finally, after a moment's hesitition, she replied, "Yeah. When I was little I used to love to ice skate. There was a pond right by where I grew up and every winter, as soon as it froze over, I would be there, figure - eighting and carving circles in the ice with Melissa's skates on, even though they were too big. When I got my own new skates for Christmas one year, I was overjoyed and begged my parents to take me skating in a real rink. They had been planning a trip to New York for a couple of weeks, so that's what they decided to let me do. When we went up to New York, I got to go skating in Rockefellar Center. I still remember standing her for the first time, realizing that I could actually go down there and skate my little heart out. It was so much fun, skating down there. I just wish I could do it again someday, even though I'd proably fall and break my neck. Oh well, sorry. But thanks for letting me unload there. This whole trip just has me all tensed up. I don't know why. Anway---" she concluded as her voice trailed off. "We had better get goning, Mulder. It's almost dark and I'm starving." "Yeah alright," came his relpy. "Let's go back to the hotel. I have to make a few phone calls, get washed up and changed and then we can head out for dinner." When Mulder got to his hotel room, he immediatly took out his phone book from the desk draw and flipped to "Ice Skating - Rinks". He knew that this would be a perfect oppertunity to confess his love to Scully. And also one that he had to jump at. He welcomed the opportunity to be with Scully like never before. After calling the Rockefeller Center Rink, and giving his Visa number, he called Scully and told her to dress casual. "Why?" came the reply. "Cause we're going to a casual place. Anymore questions?" he answered back. "No sir," She replied sarcastically. " I'll meet you downstairs in 5, then ok?" "See ya then," he said as he laid the reciever back on the desk. Five minuites later, they were on there way to a small Italian place located a few blocks from the rink. When they finished there dinner, Mulder whipped out his Visa card and paid for it. Then he led Scully out of the restoraunt and down the side of the street. "Mulder, wrong way. The car's that way," she cautioned as they walked. "Nope, we're going for a little walk. I've got a surprise," he smiled. "Just keep walking and don't ask questions." A little while later, they reached the rink and found it completely empty. Only the lights were on and they paused to look down into the white illumination of ice. "Mulder, why are all the lights on if it's closed?" Scully asked. "I don't know, we had better go find out," he said a little too mysteriously. With a playful smack on the shoulder she led the way down into the ice skating rink. As they reached the bottom of the steps, she saw a small peice of paper folded up with "Mr. Mulder" scribbled across the top. She handed to her partner and then asked, "Mulder, what the hell's going on here?" "You'll see Scully. This is my surprise," he answered back as he unfolded the paper and read the note. When finished, he folded it up and put it in his pocket, then turned to Scully and said , "You said you dreamed you could come skate here again. So, Merry Christmas. You wish came true." With tears in her eyes, Scully finally managed to choke out, "You did all this for me Mulder? You rented out the rink just so I could go skating!?! I din't even know you could do that!! It must have cost you a fortune!! Oh my gosh, thank you so much." That was all she could say as she pulled hiim close to her in a sweet embrace. "You gonna skate or are we gonna stand here and freeze all night?" came Mulder's voice. "No, I'll skate, that's for sure!!" she excitedly relpied. As she turned aroung, she saw that two pairs of skates were lined up. Perfect white ones in her size, and black ones in Mulder's. She started tugging off her shoes and pulling on the skates and was in the middle of lacing them up when she noticed Mulder was just standing there. "Aren't you gonna come? I'm not going alone," she questioned. "Me!?!? No!! I can't skate." "Well, welcome to the world of learning," she stated matter - of - factly. "Now come on, put you're skates on. I'll give you a lesson!" Mulder stepped out onto the ice following Scully. Shakily, he put his hand out as she laughed and extended hers as well. With a firm grasp, she grabbed him and led him out onto the ice away from the edge. "Hey, hold on a sec! Where'ya going!?!?" he asked her almost afraid. "To skate. Come on," she answered firmly and pulled him into the center of the rink. Stumbling all the way, Mulder and Scully finally made it to the middle. When they did, she slowly let go of his hand an skated backwords a few strides from him. Then she made a wide circle around him saying, "Mulder, Mulder, what are we going to do with you? Look at you, wrong skating posture, no clue how to even skate, I wouldn't be surprised if you fell on your first stride. That'll have to change immedietly." "May I ask what that's supposed to mean?" he inquired. "Well, simply that first, you have to stand up striaght, like this," she directed placing one hand on the small of his back and one on his stomach to show him correct posture. "OK. Now," she paused and skated a few feet from him. "Skate to me. One foot in front of the other and try to glide. Don't take short little steps like walking. Glide, just like rollerblading. It's not that hard actually," she directed. As he slowly took one stride, and then another, he looked up at her with the biggest smile she'd ever seen. When he was only a few inches away from finally reaching her, Mulder got too excited and lost his balance. He grabbed Scully's hand and brought her down on top of him when he fell to the coldness beneath them. Laughing, Scully managed to choke out, "Oh Mulder! That was so much fun!! You should have seen the look on your face when you fell!! Oh!!! It was priceless!!" "I hope you having fun at my expense," he said. "I didn't think it was quite that hillarious. Besides, my ass hurts now." "Oh, but Mulder, that was soooo funny!!!" Scully exclaimed, still in stiches. "That was hillarious!" Before she has the chance to say another word, he quickly flipped her over so that he was on top now. "Hey, watcha' do that for?!?" she aksed. Before she had the chance to try to get up, he quickly placed his mouth over hers and kissed her, passionetly and sensitively, all in one. She responded with utter happiness, and didn't even try to pull away. When he finally broke the kiss, he said, "Does that answer your question?" "Yeah, I'd say so," she responded. "Mulder, I never knew..." was all she could manage to say. "Shhhh. Don't ruin it, just go with it," he said leaning in again for more of what he had started. This time the kiss was even more passionate. He wrapped his muscular arms around her and held her tight. This time it was her who pulled away. "Mulder, I've wanted this for so long. But I never knew you did, too," she explained. "Sure I have. Like ever since I realized you could be taken away from me at any time. It was your abduction that made me feel so strong. I mean, even before that, I knew I loved you, but not this much. When you were diognosed wih cancer, I knew I had to do something. But it was so traumatic for you, and me I guess. I just didn't want to ruin your life anymore than I already had. But now that's that's over... I kinda had a suspicion you, well, um... felt the same way. But I wasn't sure. Eddie VanBlunhdt kinda made me suspect that. But then I realized you were drunk beyond belief. Other things too though. Stupid little things," he explained. "Mulder, I don't know how long I've felt this way. Pratically ever since we first met. But then there was that incident in Tennessee, which delayed things. Not to mention Diana now. Thank god that's over. Oh, sorry," she said. "I forgot." "Its OK. That's over. She's over...we're over. Now, it's just me and you Scully. That's it, forever." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WELL!!??!!?? How did ya like it!! Did it suck too bad? Please send feedback. It's (yeah like you didn't read it enough already!) shipper1013@hotmail.com Anyway, I'll get back to you as soon as humanly possible, I promise. Hope you enjoyed my story. If I get enough positive feedback, maybe I'll try another one, the world never knows... Anyway, thanks for sending me messages. Oh, and I don't want any feedback if all you'e gonna tell me is that renting out the Rockefellar Center Rink is impossible. I don't want to hear it. This is my story and thats how it happened. Anyway...all other feedback is highly appreciated. (Think I begged enough?) Sandra shipper1013@hotmail.com
