It's one of those things that came to me in the state between wake and sleep, so it might be strange. Also, I wrote and edited it in 45 minutes because I just had to get it out. Please forgive any horrid errors. ARCHIVE FREELY, BUT *ANYBODY* OTHER THAN GOSSAMER SHOULD LET ME KNOW! Feedback is appreciated! DISCLAIMER! You all know the score: Christ Carter, 1013 and Fox own Mulder, Scully, the Gunmen, Skinner, etc. If they were mine, I wouldn't have to struggle to pay the bills. He wasn't answering his phone and his cell was turned off. She was beginning to panic. Mulder had taken some time off after THE case. Mulder *never* took time off unless she made him because he was sick or injured. It sure had been a doozy of a case. One of the Seven Temples followers had convinced Mulder that she was his soul mate, through past lives. Mulder believed her! Scully didn't know what to think. She'd paced around the office for two hours, trying to get hold of Mulder with no success. She just couldn't take it anymore. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was very wrong with Mulder. She had to go to him now. Grabbing her purse she rushed out the door, not even bothering to let anyone know that she was leaving. It took her 15 minutes to get to Mulder's house. She was very lucky that there had been no speed traps on her way. Knocking on the door she got no answer. "Mulder? It's Scully. Please let me in..." Nothing. No response of any kind. Placing her ear to the door she thought she heard the unmistakable click of a gun being cocked. Without thinking she grabbed her key and let herself in. "Mulder NO!" She rushed to him and yanked the gun out of his hand, only later realizing how stupid that had been. "Goddamn it Mulder! What the hell are you doing?" "She's waiting for me, Scully. I need to go to her. Please give me the gun back. Please." "Mulder, this is insane! She's not waiting for you! She's dead." Scully removed the clip from Mulder's gun and her own, emptying both. She knew that Mulder had another gun and more bullets, but hopefully this would keep= him from hurting himself until she'd had time to talk to him out of it. "No, Scully. She's my soul mate. She's waiting for me." Scully had never seen Mulder so distraught. She seriously wished she had some sedative on her so that she could just sedate him until he came around. She made a mental note to keep sedative in her purse from now on.. "Mulder.." she said, softening her voice and sitting down in front of him, "there are no such things as soul mates. Even *if* souls are reincarnated, and that's a big if Mulder, it would be ridiculous to expect two souls to mate over and over. We have multiple loves in each lifetime, Mulder, why can't we have multiple loves across lives?" "Souls mate for eternity, Scully. That's what she said." "What makes you think she was right? Maybe a part of her wished that souls mated for eternity. Maybe a part of her wanted to be certain that she wasn't condemned to be with that lunatic for all eternity so she picked the first attractive man she saw and called him her soul mate." "Scully.. I knew her. From the second I saw her mug shot I knew her." "Mulder, people look familiar. We see people we think we know but can't place every day. Maybe you met her in passing years ago. Maybe she really made an impression." "Scully... give me the gun. She's waiting." "NO Mulder. She's not waiting. I will NOT let you do this." "Scully! I need to.. I need to be with her." "No! What about me Mulder? Where do I fit in? Why is it okay to leave me behind?" "You're my Sergeant, Scully. I'll see you again." "What about Samantha?" "I'll see her again too!" "Perhaps, Mulder, but is it alright to let her suffer and be tortured in this life just because you're certain that you'll see her in the next?" "What if she's dead already? What if she's waiting too?" "What if you're wrong, Mulder. What if reincarnation isn't real? What if this is your only chance? What if Samantha is alive?" Scully could see Mulder struggle. She could see the desire to live and find his sister warring with the desire to die and follow his "soul mate". "And what about me, Mulder? How do you feel about me?" "Scully?" "How do you feel about me Mulder? How do you *really* feel, deep down, in your heart of hearts?" Scully knew how she hoped Mulder felt. "I love you Scully. You're my best friend." "You only love me as a friend, Mulder? An ordinary friend?" "No... I trust you more than that. I care more about you than that..." "Do you love me Mulder? Really? What kind of love do you have for me? Just friend love?" "Scully, I don't understand what you're saying." "Mulder, I... I can't believe that that woman is your soul mate. It simply isn't possible." "Why not?" "Because if souls mated for eternity, how could I possibly love you so much? How?" With that Scully claimed Mulder's lips with her own. For a second Mulder fought. Fought with the warring emotions inside of him. Part of him was certain that Melissa had been right, that they had been soul mates. Another part of him was forced to face the fact that he loved Scully, deeply and truly and that he had for a long time. Suddenly he found himself kissing her back with a passion and depth of feeling he hadn't known before. Before she knew what had hit her Scully felt Mulder tugging at her trench coat. Shrugging her shoulders she helped him get it off. Next, he attacked= the buttons on her blouse. Losing herself in the feel of Mulder's skin on= hers she wasn't aware of the outside world for what seemed like years. "Mulder?" "Fox." "Hmmmm?" "You can call me Fox." The importance of being given permission to call him by his name did not escape her notice. "Fox?" "Yes Dana?" "I love you." "I love you too." "Fox?" "Dana?" "Do you still believe that that woman was your soul mate?" "I wonder if when she said that souls mate for eternity she didn't mean that a group of souls 'mate', destined to come together over and over again, in a different relationship each time." "You mean, maybe next time *I* can be the division head?" "Maybe.. maybe." The End.
