Spooky
by Rachel Carper

Mulder stood uneasily next to Scully and Skinner. He hated these
Bureau dinners he was always being dragged to. He scanned the room looking
for a quick escape. Skinner noticed and immediately shook his head at him.
Mulder slumped down and moved on to people watching, something he had
picked up from his Oxford roommate. Scully noticed him slumping and elbowed
him. She was surprised when he suddenly stood up straight. "Excuse me," he
said to Skinner and Scully and headed off across the room toward the doors.

Scully and Skinner exchanged looks and followed him across the
room. They caught up with him when he stopped next to a Baron from the UK
and his beautiful date. Scully noticed Fitzwaren and Miller. She disliked
both intensely. They seemed to enjoy tormenting Mulder. That always brought
out the protective side of Scully. Miller turned toward Mulder and gave him
an insincere smile. "Ah, Mulder. Come to meet society?"
Turning toward the Baron and his date he said "Sir, let me
introduce you to Fox Mulder"
"Fox!?" the woman exclaimed turning around and noticing Mulder for
the first time.
"Yes, silly name isn't it?" smirked Miller. Fitzwaren giggled as well.
Ignoring the two Mulder said "Hey baby, how's it hanging?"
Scully hung her head. She new Mulder often seemed as if he had no
social skills, but really. Skinner cleared his throat and tried to think of
a way to smooth THIS over. To everyone's utter amazement the woman threw
herself into Mulder's waiting arms.
"Fox! It's been forever. Where the hell have you been. Baby let me
look at you." She took a step back keeping a hold of his hand. She looked
him up and down and then grabbed and hugged him again. "God, you look good.
I always loved you in a tux." She turned to Scully and Skinner. "How did
you get him in a tux? There were five of us and we could never get him in
formal wear no matter how hard we tried. Not even for that dinner with the
MP." She turned back to Mulder. "Have you seen the others? They're gonna
die."
"The Clan is here?" MUlder questioned looking around. "How could I
have missed them?"
"Good question. You lived with us long enough."
At this point the Baron tapped her on her shoulder. "OH, sorry
dear. This is Fox. I'm sure I told you about him. We lived together at uni.
Oh, there they are. Excuse me." After dropping that bomb she walked
determinedly across the room to a group of four of the most beautiful women
any of the men had ever seen.
The Baron turned his attention to Mulder. "So, your the famous Fox.
We must have a chat sometime. Clair's mother informs me you are the only
one who can get her to behave."
"Um, I don't think I'd say that." Mulder sounded terribly
embarrassed. He turned and introduced the Baron to Scully and Skinner.
"If Agent Mulder is half as good as the Earl says, you are very
fortunate Mr. Skinner." the Baron said shaking Skinner's hand.
"The Earl?" Miller questioned. This was not what he had planned
when he had introduced Mulder. He had assumed Mulder's legendary lack of
manners would embarrass him into leaving. That would leave the delectible
Agent Scully fair game.
"Clair's father," the Baron responded. He noticed someone wave from
across the room. "Excuse me." he said nodding and wondering off towards
several Senators and the Vice President.
Just then Lady Clair and the four other women arrived. The women
took turns hugging Mulder and exclaiming over him. "God you look fantastic
in a tux." "Yes almost as good as those shorts" "No, not those ratty blue
ones" "Bet he still has them. Don't you Spooky?"
The conversation seemed to go on without a pause. The women didn't
seem to expect answers and they all seemed to keep touching Mulder.
"So tell us Spooky," Miller said with a leer. "how did YOU meet
these lovely ladies"
The five women turned on Miller as one. "What did you call him?"
demanded Lady Clair.
"UM, most of us call him Spooky."
"No you don't. Only those of us who have slept with Fox call him
Spooky, and I can guarantee YOU have not."
Everyone turned to look at Mulder. He appeared to be trying to sink
into the floor. "Um, yea, well.' he stammered. The women turned and gave
Miller and Fitzwaren scathing looks. "He slept with you?" Miller sounded
surprised.
"Actually," one of the women said "he slept with all of us." All
the other women nodded and stepped closer to Mulder. "He's so good," the
only brunette said "He's SPOOKY" they all said in unison.
The two men shot Mulder a surprised look. They looked at the women
surrounding him and nodded. Then they turned and slunk off.
Skinner looked at Mulder "Care to explain that, Agent?"
        "No." was Mulder simple reply.
Scully looked at the women and then at Mulder and said " A harem of
women show up claiming to be old college girlfriends and you don't want to
explain?"
        "No" repeated Mulder.
The brunette looked at Skinner and smiled. She took a step forward
and said "It's all my fault." Then she turned to Scully and said "Actually
we prefer the name Clan. You see at uni there was a name mix up. My name is
Mitchelle. The housing office thought it was Mitchell. So they put Fox and
I in the same room. That was junior year. The girls and I had all met
Freshman year. For whatever reason our room became the meeting place.
Probably because it was the only one with a kitchen. Slowly everyone
basically moved in. One night we all had a big drink up. At 'bout four we
all crawled into the bedroom and passed out on the bed. It was a giant
puppy pile." she smiled remembering. "About seven am some bozo came
knocking on the door. So we rolled Fox out of bed and he answered the
door." Her eyes took on a far away look as she continued to remember that
morning.
****************

Fox padded bare foot to the door. He was bleary eyed and unshaven.
He rubbed his face and opened the door. To his utter surprise the head of
his department and the visiting lecturer from the FBI stood in the door
way. "Mulder," his professor said "Director whohal would like to talk to
you."
Mulder stood back and opened the door wider. He motioned the men in
with his arm. "Have a seat," he said. After they had chosen chairs Mulder
sat on the couch. Several minutes latter Mulder was
regretting opening the door to the two. They seemed to be interrogating
him. The door to the bedroom opened and a beautiful brunette walked out.
She wore only a sweatshirt which seemed to match the pink sweats Mulder had
pulled on to answer the door. She blinked at the men and said "Morning
Fox." and went into the kitchen. Moments latter the bedroom door opened
again and another beautiful woman came out. She looked at the visitors in
surprise. "Morning." she said on her way to the kitchen. The two men turned
quizzical gazes on Mulder. He just shrugged and looked sheepish. As the FBI
director began his questions again a beautiful blond wet from a shower, and
dressed only in a towel, came out from the bedroom. "Coffee." she muttered
as she bent down and kissed Mudler's cheek. "Kath's making it." Mulder
replied.
The FBI Director turned a by now impressed gaze on Mulder. "Just
how many women do you have in your bedroom at one time Mr. Mulder?" he
asked.
Mulder looked at the kitchen where the three women could be seen
making coffee and then at the bedroom door. "I think there are only two or
three more." he replied. His two guest looked shocked. "Most impressive,"
the director said before he could stop himself.
The brunette came into the room carrying a tray with coffee and
tea. "Yeah, he's so good he's SPOOKY."

***********

All the women laughed. Mulder stared at the floor looking
uncomfortable. Scully glanced at the women and noticed the loving
protective look on their faces. The group continued to stand there chatting
and fairly soon Mulder noticed that Mitchelle was flirting fairly heavily
with Skinner. He turned and made a motion with his head and the group began
to wander away. Lady Clair turned to Scully. "We love Fox. He's very
special. We're all so glad he found someone like you." The others nodded.
Scully just smiled and turned to Mulder. "Com'on Spooky, lets dance" she
said.
