SCULLY: "This Bigfoot-monster-in-the-woods thing is getting old." MULDER: "Only you would say that." :::smiles at her::: SCULLY: "We have two witnesses - a 15 year old boy named Jake Andrews and a 45 year-old hunter named Andy Williams." MULDER: "I call the kid." SCULLY: "Why do I get the guy with the guns?" MULDER: "You both seem to like guns a lot - you would have a lot in common ." SCULLY: "Well then, I could see why you would want the kid - you both would have a lot in common, you haven't grown up yet." MULDER: "That was very cold, Scully." SCULLY: "Do you know why they give you all these assignments?" MULDER: "Why?" SCULLY: "I think that they are trying to get rid of you at the office." Drops Scully off at Willams, then heads to Andrews MULDER: :::walks up to the Andrews house and knocks on the door:: KID: "Hello?" MULDER: :::holds up his badge::: "Agent Mulder. I'm with the F.B.I. Can I talk to you?" KID: "Sure. I'm Jake." MULDER: "When did you see that thing in the woods?" JAKE: "All the time - and its not a thing , its a human girl." MULDER: "Do you know her?" JAKE: "I've protecting her." MULDER: "From what?" JAKE: "I can't tell - I promised her - I hated to tell this much, but she needs help." MULDER: "What does she look like?" JAKE: "Dark skin, like an Indian." MULDER: "Thank-you for the help, we will find her." JAKE: "Okay." ...Later in the car, and Scully talking SCULLY: "Its human? Oh, my Lord!" MULDER: "What's wrong?" SCULLY: "The man shot at it and hit her; he thought she was Bigfoot." MULDER: "We have to find her." Later in the woods SCULLY: "Want to split up? We have a lot of ground to cover." MULDER: "Okay, be careful." SCULLY: :::walks off::: MULDER: :::hears a crash from a tree::: MULDER: :::sees a girl trying to stand up::: GIRL: :::cries out::: MULDER: "Are you okay?" GIRL: :::looks at him, and her eyes get wide and runs::: MULDER: "Wait! I'm not going to hurt you!" GIRL: :::falls and cries out::: "Leave me alone!" SCULLY: "I want to help you!" GIRL: :::trips him::: "I warned you!" SCULLY: :::runs up to Mulder::: "Stop!" GIRL: :::runs to a log that crosses a river::: SCULLY: :::runs after her, but trips in the log::: GIRL: :::grabs Scully's arm::: "Hold on!" SCULLY:: "I'm going to fall!" ::starts to slip:: MULDER: "Scully!!" ::sees her fall::: MULDER: :::runs to the water and jumps in trying to look for her::: GIRL: :::runs down the bank, spots, and gets to her::: SCULLY: :::coughing::: "I'm okay." GIRL: :::helps her swim to the bank::: "You're cold, we need to get you warm." SCULLY: "Okay." :::walks with her to building::: GIRL: "It's an old church - just in case you were wondering." :::gets her a blanket::: SCULLY: "Where's Mulder?" GIRL: "I'll find him, lay down." ........ in the river MULDER: "Scully!!!!!!!!!" MULDER: :::dives under and then comes up::: MULDER: :::turns to late to see a log hit him in the head, his eyes roll back and he goes under:: Girl looking around the river for Mulder GIRL: "Sir? are you out here?" ::has an image in her head of the man under water, he was still:: GIRL: "Oh my God!" ::runs to river and jumps into the water and dives under and finds him:: GIRL: ::trying to pull up but his wrists and ankles, she is running out of air, the weeds brake and she brings him up and drags him up the bank:: GIRL: ::checks his pulse and breathing, nothing:: GIRL: ::starts to pump on his chest:: "Come on! Wake up!" GIRL: ::breathing into his mouth:: "Come on! Breathe - you cant die! Your partner needs you!" MULDER: ::water streams from the corner of his mouth, his eyes open:: GIRL: "Can you breathe?" MULDER: ::starts coughing and fighting for air:: MULDER: ::tries to sit up but falls back:: MULDER: "I need to get Scully!" GIRL: "Relax, she's okay." ::puts her hand on his head and makes his wound on his head heal:: MULDER: "How is she?" GIRL: "She was in shock and really worried about you." MULDER: "Where is she?" GIRL: "I'll take you there." MULDER: "Okay." ::standing up almost falling:: GIRL: ::catches him:: "Easy." MULDER: "Thanks. Am I hurting you?" GIRL: "No." MULDER: "What's your name?" GIRL: ::hesitates:: "Kat - my real name is Katrina, but everyone calls me Kat." MULDER: "My name is Fox Mulder." KAT: "That's a cool name, it's different." ::cries out and drops to her knees:: "Sorry." MULDER: "You're hurt." KAT: "Just my shoulder and my side." MULDER: "You were shot in the shoulder, weren't you?" KAT: "Yeah, but its healing." MULDER: "You need help, how old are you?" KAT: "13 since March." MULDER: "You're that young? You seem older. Why are you out here?" KAT: "Hiding - that's why you scared me." ::points to building:: "She's in there." BOTH: ::walks in:: MULDER: "Scully!" SCULLY: ::laying on blankets on the floor, she's asleep:: MULDER: ::goes over to her and kneels down he starts to feel dizzy, lays down beside her and falls asleep:: KAT: ::walks outside and sits on a chair and falls asleep:: A couple hours later after fell asleep....... SCULLY: ::wakes up and looks at:: "Mulder, Wake up. Can you here me?" MULDER: ::breathing softly, not waking up:: SCULLY: ::walks outside and sees Kat asleep with a kitten on her lap:: SCULLY: ::touches her shoulder to wake her up:: KAT: :: jumps up and cries out:: "Watch it! That hurts!" SCULLY: "I'm sorry, that's where you got shot, isn't it?" KAT: "How do you and your partner know about that? How long have you have been following me?" SCULLY: "We talk to the man who did it." KAT: "Oh, the biggest trigger happy lunatic in this part of the state." :: in a flat voice:: KAT: "He would shoot anything that looks at him cross-eyed." SCULLY: "Who's been taking care of you shoulder?" KAT: "Me, myself and I." SCULLY: "Your going to get sick if you don't get help." KAT: "Don't you think I'm not already? But I'm feeling better." SCULLY: "What happened to Mulder?" KAT: "He hit his head and drowned, I thought he was dead for a second." SCULLY: "Thank-you for helping us." KAT: "You really don't have to thank me - it was my fault. I shouldn't have run." SCULLY: "It's not your fault, you obviously are afraid of something." KAT: "Do you feel better?" SCULLY: "Yeah, thanks. I'm going to check on Mulder- I'll be back." KAT: "Okay." SCULLY: ::walks into the building and kneels down beside:: "Come on, wake up." ::strokes his hair:: MULDER: ::groans and slowly opens his eyes:: "Scully?" ::tries to sit up:: SCULLY: "Lay down - your in shock. You almost died." MULDER: "That girl.... Kat... she saved my life. A log hit me in the head, and the last thing I can remember is I couldn't breathe." SCULLY: "You're lucky, you don't have a mark on your head." MULDER: "I should, definitely since that thing knocked me out. The first thing I remember was her trying to help me breath... she is hurt pretty bad." SCULLY: "I know. I saw her shoulder." MULDER: "There is something pretty weird going around here and we need to protect her because there is something after her." SCULLY: "I agree on with this one, but how are we going to get her to come with us?" MULDER: "I'll talk to her, would you call Skinner and ask him for a place to keep her?" ::stands up and walks out side:: SCULLY: "Okay." MULDER: ::walks up behind Kat, she's playing with a little black kitten:: KAT: "Hi, feeling better?" MULDER: "Yeah, how about you?" KAT: "It don't hurt too bad." MULDER: "We need you to come with us." KAT: "4 words......... no way, forget it." MULDER: "Just for a while." KAT: "How much longer do you think I'm going to stay here?" MULDER: "What do you mean?" KAT: "I'm going to find my dad." MULDER: "What about your mom?" KAT: "She died when I was little, some lady killed her." MULDER: "How old were you?" KAT: "3, I still remember a little." MULDER: "Who has been taking care of you?" KAT: "Depends on your definition ... I was adopted ... I really wanted to live with my Grandma but they said she was unfit because she was old." MULDER: "Where is she now?" KAT: "She died last March." MULDER: "We are not going to hurt you and maybe we can help you find your dad." KAT: "I have to stay here, I have to take care of this kitten." MULDER: "You can take it with you." KAT: ::looking into his eyes like she was seaching them, trying to figure if she could trust him:: "How do I know I can trust you?" MULDER: "Your not trusting, are you?" KAT: ::cold flat voice:: "Oh, I'm trusting - just not with adults. There was only one adult in this world I did trust and she is dead." MULDER: "Who?" KAT: "My grandmother, she was 100% Navajo and so was my mom. I'm half." MULDER: "I promise that my partner and I wouldn't hurt you, I think you've had enough of that." KAT: "Tell me about it." ::takes a deep breath:: "Sure, fine, whatever. I'll go with you - doesn't seem i have choice." MULDER: "Okay, I promise you'll be okay." SCULLY: ::walks out:: "We have a place - it's not far from here." ::looks at Kat:: "It's only for a couple days. You'll be okay." KAT: ::nods:: Later in the car........ MULDER: "Kat, who is that?" ::points out the window at kid holding up a 'Honk If Your Horny' sign at the side of a stop light:: KAT: ::giggles and shakes her head:: "Luke." ::the car stops at the light:: LUKE: ::looks at Kat and talks to her through the window:: "Kat? What happened?" KAT: "Got caught. You got bored, didn't you?" LUKE: "Yeah, without you it is hard to get in trouble." KAT: "You could aways flip off that cop stationed up in the graveyard again - or you could scare the crap out of him tonight." LUKE: "I haven't done the scaring thing yet, but I like that idea. Even though we did it to those highschool kids last year at Halloween, a cop would be hilarious." ::takes off an alien pendant and puts it around Kat's neck:: "For luck." KAT: ::tears rolling done her face:: "Thanks." ::kisses him on the cheek:: ::car pulls out:: MULDER: "Boyfriend?" KAT: "Even better - my best friend since kindergarden." MULDER: "What is that thing around your neck?" KAT: "My alien pendant." MULDER: "How do you wear that thing?" KAT: ::in a cold flat voice:: "I put it around my neck and wear it. Agent Mulder, can I tell you something?" MULDER: "Go right ahead." KAT: "You talk entirely too much. I swear I was called a psycho because i never talked in school to people." SCULLY: ::laughing:: "A pyscho?" KAT: "They put it as anti-social, but I got their meaning." ::putting on her head phones so she could ignore Mulder:: MULDER: "She isn't very nice is she? Sorta hateful." ::in a whisper:: SCULLY: "She is not hateful - she's had a hard life and she doesn't trust us. If she was hateful she wouldn't have saved you or me." KAT: ::slowly falls asleep:: ........The car arrives at the cabin where they will be staying at SCULLY: "I'll wake her up." MULDER: "Okay." SCULLY: ::opens the back door:: "Kat, wake up." KAT: ::doesn't move:: SCULLY: ::feels her forehead:: "Mulder!" MULDER: "What's wrong?" SCULLY: "I can't get her to wake up, and she's burning up." MULDER: ::picks Kat up out of the car:: "She didnt even budge when I picked her up." They walk in... MULDER: ::lays down on a bed:: SCULLY: "She must be sick from the wound." ::brings stuff in:: MULDER: ::brings the kitten in:: "She might need this." SCULLY: "I'm going to need to work on her shoulder, the bullet's still in her. This will take awhile, you should get some sleep." MULDER: "Sure - will she be okay?" SCULLY: "Yeah, I'm just glad she is not awake. This would hurt pretty bad." MULDER: ::leaves the room and lays down on the couch and falls asleep:: MULDER: :::he starts to dream about a little girl playing out side in the snow, a man comes up to her and grabs her arm roughly, she cries out and tells him to stop, he tells her to shut up, he throughs her into a in-ground pool that was frozen, and the ice breaks from under her...she struggles to gwet otu and the man does'nt help her.....(break between dreams) the girl is a little bit older she is traped in a corner and he is hitting and he throws her up against the wall....(break again) this time he relizes its Kat and she is 12 yrs, the man grabs her by the arm and makes her fall down the stairs::: MULDER: ::wakes up fast:: "Oh God." ::he wonders if the dreams are real:: MULDER: ::walks in the room:: "Scully?" SCULLY: "She's okay now. Her fever's down a little, that kitten of hers is mean - he wouldn't let me move him, he hissed and snapped at me everytime I tried." MULDER: "I think he gets his personality from her." SCULLY: "I think he's just attached to her because he thinks she is his mother." MULDER: "Scully, you should get some sleep. I'll watch her." SCULLY: "Okay. Good night - if she wakes up, try to keep her calm." MULDER: "Okay, good night." SCULLY: :::leaves the room::: MULDER: ::sits beside Kat on the bed, brushes her brown hair from her forehead, and sees the scar he saw her get on the stairs:: "Why did he do this to you?" ::in a whisper:: ...Hour later KAT: ::slowly opens her eyes::: MULDER: ::smiles at her:: "You're finally awake." KAT: "What happened to me?" MULDER: "You were sick." KAT: "Ouch! My arm! ::lays her head back:: MULDER: "That kitten was trying to protect you." KAT: "Seth, you animal." ::sits up and gets a small bottle and starts feeding the kitten:: MULDER: "Seth? How did he get that name?" KAT: "Have you seen 'City of Angels' ?" MULDER: "Yeah, it was okay." KAT: "I needed a shrink after it, but anyway I named him after the angel." MULDER: "How old is he?" KAT: "4 weeks." MULDER: "You like animals a lot, don't you?" KAT: "Yeah, this one is my baby... he sorta keeps me company because I can't be with a lot of people." MULDER: "What happened to your forehead?" KAT: ::flatly:: "Don't want to talk about it." MULDER: "Why?" KAT: "I just don't want to." MULDER: "Are you aways this stubborn?" KAT: "All the time." MULDER: "Do you trust me?" KAT: "Haven't decided." ::digging through a bag and pulls out a walkmen:: MULDER: "What are you listening to?" KAT: "The Goo Goo Dolls and Sarah McLachlan." MULDER: "Who?" KAT: "Goo Goo Dolls are a rock band and Sarah McLachlan is an alternative." MULDER: "I've never heard of them." KAT: "They are my favorites - music is my life." MULDER: "I could never understand why people were like that." KAT: "Some times it's the only thing that makes sense to me, you can listen to Sarah McLachlan and maybe you would understand." MULDER: "Okay, is it loud?" KAT: "No not really." :::hands him the walkmen:: MULDER: ::listens for awhile:: KAT: ::humming the first song from memory:: MULDER: "That was weird, but I can sort of understand." KAT: "My favorite's 'Black and White'." MULDER: "You still need to get some sleep - you're still sick." KAT: "I'm okay. ::lays back and puts the head phones on:: ::slowly falls asleep:: Next morning (Mulder's asleep in the living room)...... SCULLY: "Kat?" KAT: ::opens her eyes:: "Hmm?" SCULLY: "Your skin's dark, but that was no excuse." KAT: "I'm 50% Navajo, my grandma said that I didn't show my white side." SCULLY: "She was lucky to have you." KAT: "I miss her so much. KAT: ::nods her head not able to look at him:: MULDER: "I know your dad has been hurting you - what did he do?" KAT: "I don't want to talk about that." MULDER: "Was it the pool thing?" MULDER: "The only weird thing is that you listen to a band called the Goo Goo Dolls." ::giving her a funny look:: KAT: "Give the poor guy a break, he was drunk when he came up with it." KAT: "Listen to 'Broken Wings' by Mr. Mister, with your eyes closed, then you'd get it." MULDER: "You listen to Mr. Mister?" KAT: "Yep, it's sad - they only came out with one album; they were great." MULDER: "I used to have the tape, I think I wore it out." KAT: "I have the cd, I listen to 'Welcome to the Real World' and 'Kyeri' non stop." MULDER: "Those were 2 of my favorites. Did you like 'Black and White' ?" KAT: "Yeah, I almost have it memorized." MULDER: "Do you like Duran Duran?" KAT: "I have their greatest hits on cd." MULDER: "I loved some of there music - definately the new ones." KAT: "Let me guess.... 'Electric Barbarella', 'Ordinary World', and 'Come Undone'." MULDER: ::looking at her strangely:: "How did you know?" KAT: "They are my favorites, too." MULDER: "I didn't think anyone in this world had the same taste in music as me. Do you like 3 Dog Night? ::expecting her to say who is that:: KAT: "Yep, I love 'One' and 'Joy to the World'. I have both songs momorized....do you like Aerosmith?" MULDER: "A little... I love that one song called 'Pink'." KAT: "That's my favorite too, that is so weird." MULDER: "What do you think of the Spice Girls and Hanson?" KAT: "They are so gross, Hanson dissapeared off the face of the earth and I wish the Spice Girls would, too." MULDER: "Same here." ::laughing:: KAT: "Do you like Savage Garden?" KAT: "All the Halloween movies except the third one, both Carries, all of the Psycho movies, and all the Nightmare on Elm Streets." MULDER: "I love Psycho, I haven't seen the new one, yet." KAT: "I have it on tape, it's sort of hidden." ::singing the words to 'Iris' before they are said:: MULDER: "You have them memorized." KAT: "This song is my favorite... I really relate to it." MULDER: "How?" KAT: "I don't want the world to see me because I don't think they'd understand." MULDER: "Oh." KAT: "Have you every found a song you've related to?" MULDER: " 'If they are good enough......' " KAT: " ' To hurt you and all the things they say so put on your armor and stand in the way, your wearing the target you took so long to earn and you start looking side ways and never return' ." MULDER: "What?" ::then hers her voice in his head...... 'He's an alien bounty hunter. I know you know what they are' ::: B-HUNTER: ::talking to Kat:: "Your coming with me." KAT: "I will if you leave them alone." ::walks towards him:: MULDER: ::grabs her wrist:: "No, he'll kill you." KAT: "Your not involved with this, no sense in me getting you killed." ::leaves with b-hunter:: MULDER: : ::runs over to scully:: "Are you okay?" :::helping her up:: SCULLY: "I'm okay. You've got to help her." MULDER: "I'll find her, lay down. I'll be back." ...In a car B-HUNTER: ::driving:: "I've been after you for a long time." KAT: "What are you going to do to me.....like I don't know." B-HUNTER: "If I were you I'd keep my mouth shut." KAT: "Why - are you afraid of me? I'm no threat to you." B-HUNTER: "Why are you lying?" KAT: ::confused::: "I don't know what you're talking about." :::trying to undo the knot so she can get free:: Meanwhile...... MULDER: "Sh**! ::found the tires of his car slashed:: MULDER: ::closes his eyes and sees the place where the bounty hunter is taking her and knows he can walk there in 15 min.:: A little After... B-hunter: ::throws Kat into a cell in a old building:: KAT: : ::cries out in pain when she lands on her hurt shoulder:: B-HUNTER: "I'd make your peace now, because you're not going to be around for much longer." MULDER: ::walks into the building quietly and sees the b- hunter ready to shoot her:: B-HUNTER: ::ready to pull the trigger:: MULDER: ::stabs the bounty hunter in the back of the neck with a knife:: B-HUNTER: ::falls to the floor:: MULDER: "Kat, are you okay?" KAT: "Yeah, you 've got to get out of here - there are more of them." MULDER: "I'm going to get you out of here." :::looking for the key and finds a file with her name on it , he takes it and finds the key, then lets her out:: KAT: ::grabs his wrist:: "We have to get out of here. MULDER: "You were for a couple minutes." KAT: "I wasn't dead, its sort of like recharging. The only way I can die from healing is if the person is dead." MULDER: "But I was dead." KAT: "Not technically, there are two kinds of dead: regular clinically dead and my dead." MULDER: "What's the difference?" KAT: "Very hard to explain but I can bring back clinically dead with out killing myself - but trying it with my dead will kill me." MULDER: "Is that going to happen to you every time?" KAT: "No, that was my first time with something that bad; I used to pass out over healing scratches." MULDER: "Can you heal yourself?" KAT: "No, but I have a very high endurance level, if I didn't I'd would more than likely be dead." MULDER: "What about reading minds and communicating telepathically?" KAT: "I hate to do it."
