SPOILERS: None whatsoever. AUTHORS NOTES: This is probably going to be a continuing thing, so tell me what you think. Yes, I know that this would never happen, but hey, I'm allowed my fun, aren't I? This entire story is fluff...mush, but no mind candy, sorry. ((Surprise)) By: Divine Joker 'What on earth is he up to now?' she thought mildly as she entered her apartment, dumping her bag of groceries beside the door before pausing to examine the brown package addressed to 'Scully'. When she had seen the envelope, she had immediately known that it had been Mulder, but what was in the package had her curiosity piqued. Biting her bottom lip, she threw it onto her couch and headed into the kitchen to put away her food. She hurried, putting the food haphazardly into the fridge and cupboards, wanting to look at the item sitting on her couch. Finally finished, she entered her living room with a glass of red wine and sat next to the envelope, picking it up with her unoccupied hand. Openeing it, she poured the contents onto the cushion beside her. A cassette, and a note. Flipping the cassette over, she looked at the note. Hey, I know you're thinking what I'm doing. So am I to tell you the truth, but I had to. So either I'm utterly blind, incredibly dense or hoping beyond my mental capacity. I hope you understand why I did this after you hear the tape. So go ahead. He hadn't even signed, knowing that she would know who it was from. Cocking her head to the side she stood and walked over to the stereo and put in the tape. She pressed play and held her breath. **All I am.... All I'll be... Everything in this world, All that I'll ever need, Is in your eyes, Shining at me** 'This can't be happening...' she thought blindly, trying to hold back the tears. She missed a part of the song. Catching her breath, she caught up again. **I do... Cherish you... For the rest of your life, You won't have to think twice. I will... Love you still... From the depths of my soul, It's beyond my control** Her eyes were really tearing now, and she was rocking on her feet. Her arms were grasping her shoulders, hugging herself. **I've waited so long, To say this to you, If you're asking Do I love you this much... I do** She started to shake. She turned and sank heavily onto the couch, her head falling sideways. She couldn't comprehend any of the millions of thoughts that were floating through her shocked mind. But her mind wouldn't let go of the lyrics that were still floating around her home. **In my world, before you... Lived outside my emotions, Didn't know where I was goin'. Till that day, I met you** Now she openly began to weep. Her dreams of living happily, getting married... all the things she thought that she may have never had were starting to warp. Here was a man she admired and adored with all her heart. A man who would litterally run to the ends of the earth to save her life, yet didn't know how to say that he loved her, to her face at least. The song had finished, and Scully sat there, deciding how to go about this. Finally she picked up the phone. After five rings, she heard the tell tale click of someone picking up the phone. "Mulder." "Marry me." She hadn't meant to make sound like a statement, in fact she hadn't meant to say it at all. But there it was, and now she held her breath to wait for his answer. She heard a tight little gasp, followed by a pause. "Don't tease me..." "It's not a tease, Mulder. I'm completely serious." And she was. That was the thing that surprised her the most. "I figure if you can take me by surprise and tell me you love me..." she paused, thinking that one over. "Well, in a way... anyway, I can take you by surprise and ask you to marry me. And I'm dead serious, Mulder." She felt something stinging in the back of her eyes. "Dammit, I'm crying Mulder." "I believe you. So am I." the two lapsed into a silence that endured for several minutes. "Yes." A smile burst onto Scullys face, and she didn't know whether she should laugh or cry...or both. "Mulder?" "Yes?" "I'm feeling kind of lonely. Wanna pick up some pizza and a movie and come over?" all she heard was the click of the phone. She chuckled and settled back onto her couch, rewinding her tape to hear it again.
