Okay, here's another story...yes I should be working on TREASON
but Kim said I could take a break :) Anyway, let's all sing
along......none of these characters are mine. They belong to
Mr. Carter and Company. If they did belong to me, I'd have a
Mulder dream sequence where Scully is doing the "These Boots Are
Made For Walking" video instead of Nancy Sinatra :)

Ummm....one last thing. there is a slight style change in the
middle of the story and that is on purpose. Just something new
I'm trying out, you probably won't even catch it.

Ooops almost forgot to thank Kim, for everything, support, encouragment,
and most of all for putting up with me when I'm Silly :)

"Take A Walk With Me"
by Tas

"That man just pisses me off!" Slamming her dishes into the
sink, she looked disgustingly at the offending stoneware,
hands on her hips. Feeling not in the mood, she simply walk
out of the small kitchen, stomping her way into the living
room.

"Why does he have to be so damned stubborn?! Aurghhh!"
Throwing her hands up in frustration, she plopped herself
down into the couch. Sitting there with the TV on, she
mindlessly flipped through the channels. Finding nothing of
interest, her thoughts once again wondered back to him.
Turning her head she found herself looking into the eyes of
a small fluffy dust collector. "So tell me Yappi, why are
men such idiots?"

Scooping the small dog up into her arms, she walk through
the apartment, admiring the blue light streaming in from the
windows. "It's not as if this were the first time he had
ever done this.... I mean why should I get all worked up
about it all......" still talking to the dog but speaking
to herself, her mind wondered to a different place, a
different time.....

"If there's ice tea in that bag.......it could be love"

.......She smiled as she thought back to that fond memory.
"Oh Yappi, what am I going to do with him?" Looking down at
her arms she peered into the quizzical eyes of her small
roommate, "Oh! What the hell am I doing here?"

In a short thirty minutes, she had on a serviceable suit and
had done a fairly decent job with her hair. Checking
herself once more in the mirror she light out a small
visible sigh that incorporated her entire body. "Dana
Katherine Scully, you are one pathetic soul. You know you
..... " her little self lecture session was disturbed in mid
sentence by the shrill ring of her phone. Letting out
another sigh of a completely different nature, she rushed
out into the bedroom.

"Hello?"

***********************************************************************

"Hey it's me." His voice was familiar and comforting even
on the phone. With the receiver held in place between her
head and shoulder she let a small smile creep it's way onto
her face as she tucked a loose strand of auburn behind her
ear.

"You were right Scully, it's not going to happen again....at
least this time." She could hear the smile in his voice,
which only added to the one on her face. Even when
admitting he was wrong, the man wouldn't let himself be
defeated, how typical Mulderish.

"Go ahead, say it...you are entitled an 'I told you
so,'....." another smile, but soon his voice took on
another tone, one that sent chills through her body. It was
soft, tender and full of a compassion that she had only seen
in his eyes and felt in his touch, "Um look Scully.. I'm
sorry about today.... I mean this afternoon I was being a
total ass and I just wanted to say I'm sorry."

If they were face to face, he would have been hitting her
with his "little boy caught with hand in jar 'but I was
getting it for you' pleading eye" look right about now.
That would just have to wait till tomorrow......or maybe
tonight. The fleeting thought sent butterflies throughout
her stomach as well as a deep burn in her cheeks. Flushed,
she placed a hand on her chest and was surprised at the heat
that was there as well.

"Take a walk with me Scully," She could hear him getting out
of the car. Closing her eyes she pictured the night and the
park as he described it for her.

"The moon's already gone, all there is left are the stars
Scully. Just me and the stars....oh and of course you too,"
again the smile, "can you hear the chirp of the crickets and
the soft gentle breeze? God! It's beautiful, looking up
it's so vast and just plain....magical. Makes you kind of
wonder doesn't it? I...I know we've had this conversation
before but..." Hiding a smile behind her hand she could
picture him now staring up into the stars with all of the
amazement and beauty of a child. "Scully....nights like these
were made for lovers....lovers and dreamers." Listening to
his soft voice sent her into a hypnotic trance as she swayed
in time with the rhythm of his cadence, eyes closed she
could almost feel him next to her, reaching for her, holding
her.

Together they walked, his voice in her ear leaving gentle
touches on her skin. Laughing and giggling like two
teenagers learning for the first time the art of flirting,
they talk of nothing and of everything at the same time.
Stepping her way to the window she found herself looking out
into the night, up into the stars and into her soul. There
in the deepest reaches of herself she found him, and for the
first time in her life that night she felt ..... happy.

"Hey Scully......um....tomorrow night, you wanna have
dinner? I mean a real dinner where we get all dressed up
and I pick you up with flowers and ...........I'm sorry
this is stupid"

But it wasn't, in fact it was the best offer she had had in
a long time and she couldn't think of anyone else she would
rather spend a quiet evening with. Just the thought of them
together sent chills of fire running rings around her spine.
She told him so and quelled his fears.

Suggesting that they both take tomorrow off so that they
could both get 'properly' prepared for the occasion, Scully
was surprised at her own forwardness.

"Why Agent Scully....are you suggesting that we play hooky
tomorrow? I woul........hold a sec, something's going on
down in the parking lot."

She waited quietly, phone pressed to her ear, her heart
pounding in her chest. She spoke softly into the phone
asking if he was okay, if everything was fine. Hearing only
the soft sounds of his breath she paced in front of the
window cursing herself for not being with him. He was her
partner, she was supposed to be there, backing him up,
looking out for him. Biting the corner of her lower lip, she
waited for his voice.

"Scully," His voice was barely a whisper, she could hear him
breathing hard, off in the distance she heard his gun
sliding out of it's holster, "get on your cell phone and
call the police to this location. There's something fishy
going on here......I think a deal is about to go down....
there's about four adult males and a female by the trunk of
a....blue Honda Accord......stay with me Scully." She was
a step ahead of him as she already had the D.C. police on
her cell phone. After relaying the info to the night officer
she got back to Mulder hoping that he wouldn't be doing
anything stupid and rash, but it was too late.

"Freeze! Federal Agent. Hands in the air....I SAID FREEZE!"
The phone was no longer held to his mouth, but she could still
hear everything in fearful digital clarity. *Mulder don't!
The police are on the way!* she wanted to scream into the
phone but her voice was gone, everything was gone, all she
could do was listen as the horror unfolded miles away.

"Alright, everyone step away from the car and down on the
ground! I SAID DOWN NOW!.........Scully you still there?
Well it looks like we got ourselves a ...."

The crack of thunder reached through the air as it exploded
in her ear, piercing her heart, shattering it. Even as she
watched her own phone tumble to the ground she could hear the
loud clatter as his hit the pavement only to be followed
by the sickening thump of what could only be his head. Too
afraid to pick it up, to call out his name and only have the
silence of death answer her, she stared it at as it laid there
on the carpet stained in blood.

An eternity passed before she found the courage to retrieve
the phone. Kneeling on the floor with the phone gingerly
place to her mouth she called his name. When she got no
answer the fear returned filling her with a wave of nausea
that she barely fought off. Repeating his name she soon found
herself screaming at the top of her lungs.

Cursing him, damning him for his stubbornness, for his
incisive need to find his stupid truth. She called him every
name she could think of and when she ran out she made up
more. Between the sobs and the tears she cried out to a God
that wasn't listening, to save her from this nightmare, to
wake her, to take her instead. In the end she broke, like
her heart, her life was now shattered in more pieces than
there were stars in the sky.

"......................dana......................"

His voice was soft, distant, weak ....... it scared her, it
scared her more than the silence. And though it didn't seem
possible, her heart broke yet again.

"....dana," barely a whisper his voice was like the wind on a
still summer's night, " it's so cold dana........so cold....
why is it so cold?"

Haltingly she spoke. Telling him to hang on, to fight, to
think of the truth they still had to find together, to think
of Sam, of his mother.

"...........mom?.....i...i want to go to sleep now...it...it
hurts too much mom.....tell sam I love her.......tell dana too
 okay mom....don't forget dana......"

Like a needle burning white hot the words lanced through her
soul. Yelling out his name, begging him to stay awake, she
promised never to leave him alone, to never doubt his
theories, to always love him. But again she was answered by
the sound of silence.

......fin

that's all I have to say about that

Strands of silver in the wind, eyes like emeralds brings me in
Feeling the warmth of her embrace, I see the world in silver grace
Dragon eyes and Dragon soul, she stirs within me an ache that grows
Standing at the edge of darkness, she rescues me from the night
Staring at the edge of darkness, I am rescued by her light
