The scenes and characters this story is based on were created by hris
Carter (The Man)..and portrayed wonderfully by Gillian Anderson &
David Duchovny. I didn't make them up..if I had, do you think I'd be
sending this out for free? I think not..:) So, all those great ideas
are property of 1013 Productions..I just figured I could borrow them a
little bit...

This is the first piece of fanfic that I have actually got finished..I
can normally never end stories..so, be gentle with your comments..but
tell me the truth..:)

My undying gratitude goes out to Amy & Caroline...you two have
kept me (mostly) sane the past few months. And for the folks in the
Cafe..this was written while strung out on caffeine..:)

He could recite every frame of this dream. From the blinding flashes
of light, to the color of the trim on the nightgown that she wore. The
same dream, year after year, the feeling of wrongness, of
helplessness, and the feelings of his entire life crumbling, all tied
into this dream. Of course, as with all dreams, his mind added touches
that weren't really there. The way that sometimes the girl who
floated in mid-air had dark hair, and sometimes her hair flamed in the
light, nearly blinding his eyes, and his heart. The way that sometimes
he could see his sister's things laying around the room, and that
sometimes the room turned into an apartment living room, with
broken glass lying on the ground. Either way, the dream always
caused his awakening to be accompanied by the beating of his heart
and his labored breathing being the only things he could hear. Sitting
up in a fright, he stared at the phone, considering reaching out to
touch the one thing that could calm him as no other.

In her dreams, she walked through a hallway. The hallway had doors
every so often, each one seeming to call her senses. Some called to
the child, some to the woman, all to the heart. So many choices. She
paused at each door, trying to decide. In her sleep, her forehead
crinkled, and her eyelids fluttered. To make the wrong decision, to
cause hurt to someone in her life, that was what she strove to avoid.
As she went farther & farther down the hallway, it seemed as if the
door on the very end was calling the loudest to her ears. She turned
her body toward it, trying to discern the inside by studying the
outside. As she reached to grasp the handle, her hand shook. When
she turned it, she could hear the other locks slide home, forever
sealing the other paths that she did not choose. She paused, part of
her wishing that she hadn't made a decision, another part sure of her
choice. She stepped forward as the door was swinging open and....

The phone next to her head rang. As she reached across the
darkness, her indecision faded, as it always did. And at the sound of
her voice, his dream fears abated.

finis.

Please don't leave me again I cried
And I threw bitter tears at the ocean
But all that came back was the tide"
