Category: MSR, H Rating: PG Summary: After William is born, things change with our two favorite agent. These things involve a dance and some interesting, sap warning though! TO BE CONTENT The CD player sang out a quiet lullaby as she finally put her son down to sleep. He had nursed at her breast no less than an hour ago, and the impression was still stained on his mind. The look of contentment on his baby's face, and Scully's relaxed expression as she did not notice he was still in the room. Or perhaps it was her contentment that meant staying in the room was acceptable. Once she had finished, she pulled t he topof her pajamas back together and sat down next to Mulder as she burped her son. He watched amazed as he giggled and burped and then let out a chocked sob. She held him up in front of her face and smiled, rezilliently. William looked lost until he reached out for her and she hugged him, as tightly as she could in the situation. She handed him over then, to him, and he cradled his son in his lap. Looking at him again, as if he was an apparition that would disappear if he got too close to him. The baby reached and grabbed his hand and brought it down to his face. He gently sucked on Mulder's pointer finger and Mulder chuckled low in his throat. The baby ceased all movement and looked up at Mulder, he was now the one amazed. A moment later he let out an excitied squeal, and shook Mulder's hand as best he could. Mulder smiled so much that it hurt. he couldn't remember a time that he had smiled so much in one day. Scully carefully took William out of his hands and led them down the hall, to the guest room, which surved as the nursery for now. Mulder follow, and watched as she put her-their child in the basonet at the foot of the queen bed. She layed him down and he immediately picked up his stuffed play thing, a little alien, a gift from Frohike. He hadn't let that toy out of his sight for the past four days that he had been at home. It was the first time that Mulder had allowed himself to come over to her apartment. What with all the visitors, and her mother, and Bill. He knew that she needed solitude, he just wasn't sure exactly how much. He felt like the black sheep. She had tried earlier, to convince him that he was part of the family, and that he had been for a long time. He tried to believe her, and he had heard her, her mother, and several other people talk of how it was not his fault. That none of it was, okay maybe *some* of it. But that he cared about her too much to hurt her intentionally. And he did. Oh, he did, with all he was worth. She was rubbing the infant's back, just to be sure that he went completely to sleep. He did, and she hummed quietly for awhile. Content to stand there like that for a time. After some time, Mulder placed his hand lightly on her arm, and she turned to him slowly. She smiled at him and turned just to check on him once more. Mulder reached across the bed and switched on the monitor. They walked back together to her room, just in time for a new random song to play on her stereo system. A random song, that to Mulder's ear was slow and melodious and he was compelled to touch her. So held his hand out to her. She reluctantly took it and pulled her into his arms. She laughed when she stepped on his toes and he laughed, from deep down in his chest. He easily toed off his sneakers and kicked them into a corner. She listened to the words, but she smiled when she couldn't remember that she had ever bought that CD. Ah, Tara, two years ago at Christmas. How can people attact so much meaning to words, sung with so little hope. But it was inevitable at this point that every song she heard held some secret meaning, for her, for her child, and for Mulder. The music was down low so not to disturb the baby. "What ravages of spirits conjured, This temptuous rage, Created a monster, Broken by the rules of love and fate has led you through it, you do what you have to do and fate has led you through it, You do what you have to do... And I have the sense to recognize that I donnn't know how to let you go, Every moment marked with apparitions of your soul, I'm ever swiftly moving, Trying to escape this desire the yearning to be near you, I do what I have to do, The yearning to be near you, I do what I have to do but I have the sense to recognize that I don't know how to let you go, I don't know how to let you go, A glowing ember, Burning hot, Burning slow, deep within I'm shaken by the violence of existing for only you, I know I can't be with you, I do what I have to do and I have the sense to recognize, But I don't know how tolet you go, I don't know how to let you go, I don't know how to let you go... Scully sighed as the song ended and the CD skipped to another song, and she stayed in his arms, still swaying to the calming music. "I have a smile stretched from ear to ear to see you walking down the road, We meet at the lights..." And she no longer listened to the words. She was positively engrossed in the presence of the man who held her. And it was then that she finally realized that no matter what his soul was, it was undeniably hers. No matter if it was man or woman or alien, that she was holding him as much as she held him. But none of that mattered. Not the past, only the presence. "We made him together." She reassured him. They continued to dance until the CD changed. The mood was broken with Aerosmith singing about how a 'Dude Looks Like a Lady'. He looked at her and she... well... she laughed. She fell back onto the bed, while Mulder watched her. Then she regained her composure and looked up at him. They stared for a minute until began to sing along with the music. She began to laugh even harder. "Yeah, yeah. Dude looks like a lady." He smiled, he grinned as he sang along with the rock. He then raced from the room, and Scully propped herself up on her elbow. He busied himself looking through her closet in the hallway. When he found what he was looking for, he let out an excited "Yes!" and raced back into the bedroom with his recent discovery. Scully began laughing again when he came into the room, like Tom Cruise did in 'Risky Business' with his sunglasses on, and more than that, a mop in his hand. He met the lyrics halfway through. "Back stage we're having the time Of our lives until somebody says 'Forgive me if I seem out of line' Then she whipped out a gun Tried to blow me away." He sang into the mop as if it was the real thing. He was shaking his head and using the mop as a guitar the as well. He was jumping and sing, though as quietly as he could in the situation. "So never judge a book by its cover Or who you gonna love by your lover Love put wise to her love in disguise She had the body of a venus Lord, imagine my surprise. Let me take a peak dear, Do me, do me, do me all night, Turn the other cheek dear, Do me, do me, do me, sue me, What a funky lady, Oh, she like it, like it, like it, like it, Oh he was a lady." He finished the chorus by jumping up on her bed and singing to her, as tears rolled down her cheeks. He finished and collapsed on the bed next to her. "You're staying the night then?" she asked, as she wiped her face. "Sure. If you want me to, I mean." "I always want you to." she said and squeezed his hand. "Okay, then I'll take the guest bed, or the couch. Whatever." he said, a hint of doubt lingering in his voice. "No, you sleep in here." He just looked at her for a moment. "No, we both sleep in the other room. With William. We *are* a family now." she said, but the last part was dripping with uncertainty. Did he want to be part of this family, she certainly wanted him to be. "I wouldn't have it any other way Scully." And they walked to the nursery where she fell asleep in his arms, and he watched his newborn son slumber. END END END! Well, it was going to be longer but it is 4:50 in the morning.
