Summary: Mulder and Scully's twins receive new information regarding Purity Control and puts them into danger. -------------------------------------------- A TWIST OF ERLENMEYER FLASK Written by: Erin M. Blair -------------------------------------------- Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Thursday, 9:00 a.m. Fox Mulder was in study that he shared with his wife, Dana Scully-Mulder, as he looked over some old X-File cases that he and his wife worked on. One case in particular called 'Purity Control'... It still bothered him, remembering his ordeal. The Crew-Cut Man who murdered his source, Deep Throat. He heard footsteps outside the door, and he smiled as his wife approached. "Looking over some old cases?" Scully asked, smiling. She walked near her own desk which was beside her husband's desk. This is where they kept their old case files, computers, and other stuff. It was their home office away from their office in the X-File Divison at the FBI Headquarters in Washington DC. "Yes," Mulder replied. "Do you remember a case called "Purity Control", Dana?" Scully certainly did remember the case, and how she had traded the alien tissue in exchange for her husband's life. "I remember.." She sat down at her desk. She looked at photos of their children, especially at the twins, Fox Jr. and Dana. "I hope that they won't encounter a case like that.." "I hope not," Mulder sighed. "Knowing our son, I am sure that he wants to pursue it. He is so much like me in that respect." He paused. "I wish that he was more like you...like Dana sometimes." Scully's eyebrows arched up. "Are you sure that you want Fox to be more like me? I am glad that he is like you. He looks so much like you and Dana looks so much like me. It evens out." "You're right, it does," Mulder smiled. They heard someone come in, and it was their son, David. "Hi, David. Home from college?" "I'm on vacation," David announced. "You know that it's spring break." David William Mulder looked like his father and his older brother with his hazel eyes and his brown hair. His parents used the same middle name as his older brother because the name was special to both of them as their fathers were named William as was Scully's older brother. However, he inherited his mother's skeptical nature about the paranormal and he was an English major trying to get his doctorate. "You told us on the phone last week, David. What are your plans?" Scully asked. "I don't know," David smiled, mysteriously. He left the room, and headed up to his bedroom. He picked up his phone and dialed his sister, Melissa's phone number. "No, our parents don't know. I didn't tell them. They will be surprised." "You're not telling them about how you are going to Canada for a month?" Melissa Elizabeth Mulder replied to her younger brother. Her parents named her after Scully's sister, Melissa, and picked out the name "Elizabeth" because they both loved the name. She was at her apartment in Annapolis. She touched her crystal necklace, and her hazel eyes glanced around her living room. Her auburn hair was pulled back in a simple ponytail. "Are you leaving school?" David laughed. "No, but I don't think that I want to be an English professor. I want to write stories." He paused. "Missy, you are a free spirit. You know what it's like trying to live up to everything." "I heard them trying to get you into the FBI," Melissa replied, smiling. "Which won't happen," David said. "You can never be to sure," Melissa laughed. "I doubt it...because it's not something that I want to do, Missy. Anyway, Mom and Dad will know soon enough in a few months," David smiled. "That you got the part of the FBI agent in the U-Files," Melissa replied. "You know they should have asked Fox Jr." "But he didn't try out for the part, Missy," David replied. "I did." FBI Headquarters X-Files Basement Office Thursday, 9:00 a.m. Fox William Mulder Jr. was looking at his e-mail on his desk when he saw an anonymous e-mail regarding new information about a project called "Purity Control." His hazel eyes twinkled with excitement at the possibility of a new case. "Dana?" Dana Katherine Mulder looked up at her brother (as well as her partner), and she smiled at his excited expression. She lookedlike her mother, Dana Scully-Mulder, with auburn hair, blue-green eyes, and china doll features. She was a forensic pathologist, like her mother, and she now worked in the X-File Divison with her brother as his partner. "What is it?" Fox Jr. looked up at his sister from reading the e-mail. "This new information is worth checking out. Let me just tell you what it said. New information regarding the 'Purity Control' case that Mom and Dad had worked on before they got married and had us. I wonder what that information would be?" "I guess that we are going to find out," Dana replied. "Does it say anything more?" "The source said that I should meet him in an near the Lincoln Memorial," Fox Jr. replied. "Alone." "How come your source doesn't trust me?" Dana asked her twin as she looked up at him with her blue-green eyes. "I don't know. I've never asked," Fox Jr. sighed. "I'm just thankful for the information that we do receive." "He has tricked us before, and you still trust him. Fox, you are the only one that I trust. I trust you with my life," Dana replied. "That is because you're my twin sister, Dana. You know that I trust you." "I know that but you have to be careful, Fox. I don't want to see you get hurt," Dana replied. She was concerned for her brother, and she didn't want anything to happen to him. "I won't get hurt," Fox replied to his twin. "I will be careful. You know that I am." "You always tell me that, but then I have to come to your rescue," Dana sighed. "And I have to clean up your messes. It's always been that way." Lincoln Memorial Washington DC Thursday, 9:30 a.m. Fox Jr. was at the Lincoln Memorial waiting for his informat when he appeared from the shadows. "I thought that you wouldn't show up." "I thought that you would appeciate this news," said the older man. "Even your father would want this information." "You seem to know so much about my father," Fox Jr. answered. "All right, what is this information?" "Ever heard of Purity Control?" the man asked. Fox Jr. nodded. "There is another one..." "Another one?" Fox Jr. asked. "What is it?" "An alien fetus. They created a clone of the original tissue to make more alien/human hybrids," the man replied. He handed him a manila envelope which was filled with new evidence of what Fox Jr. sought most: the truth of alien/human hybrids. "Why would they do that?" Fox Jr. asked, as he looked at the envelope. "To create more hybrids," the man replied. "You're stepping onto dangerous territory, Agent Mulder." Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. "Mom, Dad, can I talk with you for a minute?" Dana Mulder asked. "Sure, Dani. What is it?" Scully replied. "Is there something wrong?" "I'm worried about him. He ditched me again," Dana replied. "That's nothing new, Dana. He has always seem to ditch you," Mulder smiled. "Your father always ditched me when he went off to go somewhere," Scully replied, as she smiled at Mulder. "But he is always there when it counts." She paused. "Remember Antartica?" "What happened in Antartica?" Dana asked. "It was after I had the two of you," Scully replied. "Your mother got stung by a bee infected by an alien virus," Mulder replied. He watched his daughter arched her eyes in disbelief. "I had to travel to Antartica to give her the vaccine." "When was this this again?" Dana asked, curious. "After the two of you were born, but your mother was pregnant at the time with Emily," Mulder replied. "It didn't harm Emily?" Dana asked. "No," Scully replied. "We made sure of it. All of the tests came back negative." She saw her daughter's concerned expression. "Don't worry, I am all right, and so is your sister." "How come you never told us this?" Dana asked. "Your mother and I wanted to wait to tell all of you," Mulder replied. "It was our way to protect you from learning too much." "Too much of what?" Dana demanded. "The truth," Scully replied simply. "Your brother is going to find out more than what we had unearthed." She looked at her lookalike daughter. "And I have faith that you'll help him." "Yes," Dana replied. "To clean up his messes." "You're very good at it, Dani," Mulder replied, smiling. He went back to the original topic. "Your brother wants to protect you from everything. It's normal." "I still don't like it, Dad," Dana sighed. "I didn't like it either, Dana," Scully replied. "I got used to it though." "You did?" Dana asked her mother. "Yes, I did," Scully answered. "It takes time." She smiled at Mulder. "But its worth it. You'll see." "I hope so," Dana replied. "I had been dealing with him ditching me for years, Mom and Dad. He keeps things away from me." "For fear that you are going to get hurt," Mulder replied. "Or maybe he is scared that you might be upset at him." "I am not upset, Dad. I am just worried," Dana sighed. "I know you are, Dana. I am also worried about him," Mulder replied. "We both are," Scully sighed. X-Files Basement Office FBI Building Washington DC Tuesday, Noon "Dana!" Fox Jr. exclaimed when his sister walked into the office. "I got something very interesting to show you." "Do I have to see it?" Dana sighed. She saw her brother nod, and she walked closer to his desk. "What is it?" Fox Jr. had the contents of the manilla envelope on his desk. There were photos of the clone of the original alien tissue from Purity Control. "Mom and Dad had this case before we were born, and there is no evidence that they had made a clone of the original alien tissue..." Dana peered at the photos of the little alien fetus, and sighed. "This is a clone?" "Yes, it is," Fox Jr. replied. "My source told me about how they are using this clone for more genetic experiments. This is a lot more than our parents had found out..." "Are you sure it's a lot more? I heard differently," Dana replied, remembering her talk with their parents. "It is a lot more," Fox Jr. replied. "Really?" "Did Mom and Dad ever tell you about Antartica and Dallas then?" Dana asked. "And what had happened to Mom when she was pregnant with Emily?" "No," Fox Jr. replied. "Tell me." "Mom got stung by a bee carrying an alien virus, and they took her to Antartica. Dad traveled there to give her the vaccine which saved her life," Dana replied. "When Mom gave birth, they had run tests on her to see if our sister will suffer from the affects of what happened. She didn't." "An alien virus?" Fox Jr. asked. "Really?" He watched his sister nod. "What is it?" "A virus which an alien gestates in a human body," Dana sighed. "I know. It sounds like a science fiction novel, but it really happened. Mom was exposed to this virus when a bee stung her as Mom and Dad were going to kiss." She paused. "I have a hard time believing this, but it happened." "How come they never told us this before?" Fox Jr. asked. "They wanted to wait," Dana replied, simply. "They wanted us to wait until we can understand it better." "Until the same thing happen to us?" Fox Jr. asked. "A lot of similar things have happened to us. Who knows? Maybe the same thing will happen to us." "I think that you are getting a little too spooky, Fox. We are not repeating things that our parents did. It just seems like we are," Dana sighed. "I wouldn't worry about it." "You can never be sure," Fox Jr. replied. Dana was silent. It does seem that their cases were duplications of their parents' old cases. Research Lab Georgetown, MD Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. "Why are we here?" Dana asked her brother. She watched as they walked towards a table. "He must have left in a hurry." Fox Jr. picked up a vial and handed it to his sister. "Look at this." "What is it?" Dana asked, looking at the vial. "Why don't you analyze it?" "All right. If this is monkey pee, you are on your own," Dana answered. She smiled at her brother and left the research lab to Quantico. FBI Academy Forensic Lab Quantico, VA Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. Special Agent Danielle Lesky, MD was at her desk when her best friend, Dana Mulder, walked in. "Hi Dana. What do I owe you the pleasure?" She was wearing a white lab coat which covered her dark blue suit which matched her blue-green eyes and auburn hair. Danielle was a forensic pathologist like Dana who had ditched a career in medicine for a career in the FBI. "I want you to help me run some tests on this," Dana replied, handing her the vial with amber colored liquid. "I want to know what this is." "All right," Danielle replied. "Come this way." The two forensic pathologists walked towards the lab table, and Dana got out the supplies for the analysis. "Thanks." "I used to teach forensic medicine here. Remember?" Dana replied. She watched her friend nod. "I remember," Danielle answered. She looked through the microscope, and gasped. "Dana, look at this." Dana peered at the microscope. "That's a few more stands of nuclei on the DNA." She looked up at her friend. "Do you know what this means? It means that its extraterrestial." "You mean that it's not monkey pee?" Danielle asked, wryly. "I think that Fox and yourself are getting closer to the truth." "I think that we are," Dana replied. "Be careful, Dana," Danielle sighed. "I think that the truth is getting a tad too dangerous." "I know," Dana replied. "Dana, would you keep a secret?" "Sure," Dana answered. "Is there something wrong?" "No, nothing is wrong. We had been friends for years, Dana, and I have this crush on your brother," Danielle sighed. "Do you think that he would be interested in me?" "I think so," Dana replied. "I just hope that he doesn't get into too much trouble." An Abandoned Wherehouse Georgetown, MD Same day and time Fox Jr. was following a man to an abandoned wherehouse, and he had come across tanks which had people in them. His informant, a middle-aged man, approached him with more news about the experiments. "What is this?" "Medical experiments," replied his informant. "On humans with alien DNA." "Why?" Fox Jr. asked. "To create a new race," the informant replied. "Dr. Reynolds was the one who had conducted the experiments after your parents had found out." "My parents knew about this? How do you know?" Fox Jr. asked. "I knew your parents," the man replied. "Or should I say I knew of your parents." "How?" Fox Jr. replied. "I am an old friend of the family," the man replied. "My father was one of your father's informants." He paused. "On to other matters, you need to find Dr. Reynolds about the experiments." X-Files Basement Office Wednesday, 3:30 p.m. Dana was looking at the vial when her brother, David, walked in. "Hi David. What brings you down here?" She smiled at her brother who sat down on a chair. "I have great news, Dana. I am going to play a believer in the FBI show called the U-Files," David answered. "That's great, David. Of course, I had always thought that Fox Jr. would love something like that. No offence, but you are skeptical as me," Dana replied. David noticed the vial. "What's that, Dani?" Like Fox Jr. and the rest of the family, they had nicknamed Dana "Dani" to separate her from their mother, Dana Scully-Mulder. "That is from an extraterrestial," Dana answered. She saw a skeptical look and sighed. "David, it's really from an extraterrestial." She handed him the vial to let him look at it. "It looks like monkey pee," David smiled. He looked at the vial and saw the amber colored liquid. "That's what I thought it was until I got it analyzed with Danielle's help," Dana answered. She watched as her twin brother, Fox Jr. walk in. "Hi David," Fox Jr. replied to his younger brother. "I didn't expect to see you." "I was just telling Dana about I got the part," David replied. He looked at the vial, and handed it over to Dana. "What is this thing, Fox?" "That's why I had Dana analyze it," Fox Jr. answered. He paused, looking at his twin. "What is it, Dani?" "It's extraterrestial," Dana answered. "I want to show you something," Fox Jr. replied. "Something that my source showed me." "Isn't that kind of dangerous?" David asked. "You are putting Dana in danger." "David, we are always in danger. All of us had. It's just a fact of life," Fox Jr. sighed. He paused. "Dana.." "All right, let's go," Dana replied. Abandoned Wherehouse Georgetown, MD Wednesday, 3:45 p.m. Fox Jr. and Dana walked inside the abandoned wherehouse and they were carrying their flashlights. "I don't see the tanks. Do you?" "No. I feel as though we are some sort of wild goose chase," Dana replied. "Actually, you're not," a man replied. "My father was your father's informant until he was killed for this. However, both of you are closer to the truth than ever before..." He paused. "What you need to do is find Dr. Reynolds." He handed him a sheet of paper where the doctor lives, and leaves. "What do you think, Fox?" Dana asked her brother, as they watched the informant leave. "I have to find Dr. Reynolds..." "I should come with you," Dana replied. She saw his concerned look. "Fox, I can take care of myself." "It's too dangerous. I don't want anything to happen to you. How could I leave with myself if something happens to you," Fox Jr. replied. "I think that I should do this. It's my inherited holy grail.." "It's mine too," Dana replied. "All right, you can search on your own." Dr. Reynolds' Residence Georgetown, MD Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. Fox Jr. knocked on the door, and then, he bursted through the door. With his gun, he searched through the property. As he was searching around, someone grabbed him from behind. It was a man whose hair was in a crew-cut. Reflecting Pool Washington DC Tuesday, 4:30 p.m. Dana was looking at her watch, and she wondered where her brother is. She had a gnawing feeling that he is in trouble. She saw the informant looking at her. "There's more, isn't it?" "Your brother has been captured," replied the man. "You have to obtain the cloned alien tissue to save your brother's life. That's your only chance." "All right, I'll do it," Dana answered. "How do I--?" "I'll provide a way for you to obtain the tissue. It's called 'Purity Control' and by the way, you remind me of your mother," replied the man. "Thank you," Dana whispered. Purity Control Georgetown, MD Tuesday, 4:50 p.m. Dana walked into the corriders, and she walked into the office. "What's the password?" said a woman behind a desk. "Purity Control," replied Dana. Dana was given permission to enter a room. she thought, as she looked at the erlenmeyer flask. It was cold, frozen to the touch. She lifted up the lid to reveal a frozen, cloned alien fetus. "Oh my God," Dana whispered, almost in disbelief. There it was. Their holy grail. The key to save her brother's life was this alien fetus. FBI Headquarters Reflecting Pool Washington DC Tuesday, 4:50 p.m. Mulder and Scully were at their bench by the reflecting pool. "Where are they?" Mulder asked his wife. He was worried for the twins' safety. "Dani is around, but I haven't heard from Fox since this afternoon," Scully replied. She knew that her husband was worried as she was too. However, she knew that their children can handle themselves. "They can handle anything, Fox. They did inherit our genes." "I know that. Dana is more sensible of the two. In fact, she got your strength of your beliefs but Fox is a lot like me," Mulder sighed. A man approached them. "You may know my father, Mulder, but I am your son's informant." "You are Deep Throat's son?" Mulder asked as the man nodded. "Yes," the man replied. "Right now, your son is captive while your daughter, Dana, is obtained a clone of the original alien fetus.." "Oh my God," Scully replied. "Purity Control." "It's happening all over again," Mulder sighed. He looked at his wife, and then at the man. "What is Dana going to do about it?" "She is going to exchange the alien fetus in order to save her brother's life," the man replied. "I know. Both of you had done this several years ago, but I think that your children need your help. I am going to help her with the drop tonight." "We'll do everything we can," Scully replied. She watched the man leave their view. She remembered how she felt during the few hours that she was without Mulder. "They didn't tell us. How come they hadn't told us about the case?" "I have no idea, but we'll find out," Mulder sighed. "I hope that they realized that they are getting too close to the truth." Parking Lot Georgetown, MD Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. Dana was waiting at the parking lot with the alien fetus that she was carrying for the exchange for Fox's life. "I have it," she said to the informant. "Let me do it," replied the man. "No. I'll *do* it," Dana replied, forcibily. "It's my brother's life that's in jeopardy." "Your life is in jeopardy if you do the exchange," the man replied. "Trust me, I know." He grabbed the alien fetus, and he was shot at by a man who had a crew-cut. At the same time, Dana saw her brother being forced from a van. She ran towards her brother. "Are you all right?" "Yes, go check out our source," Fox Jr. replied. He watched his twin sister checking out the source. As she was holding the man, he said the words that his father uttered to her mother. "Trust no one." She had a finally that everything was going to change. Their source was dead, and she knew that her parents would be upset with them. Fox Mulder Jr.'s Apartment Alexandria, VA Wednesday, 11:21 p.m. "Dana, it's me. I need to talk to you," Fox William Mulder Jr. sighed into the phone. He couldn't sleep and he was sitting on his coach, watching television. He was distraught since he received the phone call from their father about separating them after the Purity Control case. "What about?" Dana asked, in an exhausted voice. She was in bed wearing a blue silk nightgown. It was a long case. Their source was dead, and their parents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully-Mulder, were upset with the twins. "We're out of the X-Files, Dana," Fox Jr. replied. His voice was cracking with sorrow. "They transferred us to different sections." "What are we going to do?" Dana asked, concerned. "I don't know," Fox Jr. replied. "All I know is that I can't stop searching for the truth." "I know," Dana sighed. "I think that you meant "we can't stop looking for the truth." You have to remember that this isn't just your holy grail to find the answers. It's mine too." "Somehow, I just knew that you are going to remind me," Fox Jr. sighed. "I'll talk to you tomorrow," Dana replied. She told her brother goodbye, and hung up the phone.
