Mulder held Scully in his arms as they sat shaking on the floor of his apartment, minutes after
she had almost been killed by that that psychopath Phillip Padgett. He cradled her as she cried,
scared to death from what had just happened. He started to cry as well, as he thought about how
he had almost lost her once again. And once again he would have lost her before telling her how
much her cared for her, how much her cherished having her in his life like she was. When the hell
was he ever going to learn! Padgett had all but said that he could never have Scully, because she
was in love with someone else. Was it possible that Dana Scully felt the same way about him?

"Scully," He whispered, "It's okay, you're okay. He's gone, I'm not going to let anyone hurt you I
promise." He hugged her tight to try to calm her down.
"Mulder, when you said he was the killer, I thought you were nuts, but you were right! How
could I have been so wrong?" She started crying harder.
"You didn't know Scully. What did we learn at Quantico, killers look just like you and me." He
tried to lift her up to her feet, so she could sit more comfortably on the sofa. She let him, and he
glided her over to it, and sat down next to her.
"Mulder when I think about what could have happened, both now and in his bedroom---Mulder, if
I can't tell a loser, a killer, by now, how can I be qualified to be an FBI agent?"
"Scully you are one of the best agents I have ever known or worked with. Nobody is perfect.
Especially when you are trying to judge others." She put her head on his chest, trying to calm
down by taking deep breaths. Apparently it was working because the tears slowed to and turned
to just ragged breaths. He rubbed her back. He subtly looked at her, at her profile. He thought
once more how gorgeous she was, and he enjoyed the feeling of her in his arms.

Scully stayed silent. Was Padgett right she thought? Am I already in love with someone and I
don't even realize it? Is it Mulder, am I really in love with Fox Mulder? After working so long
with him she wasn't sure. Sure, she card about him, how could she not after going through so
much with him. And true they had almost kissed once. But had she completely over looked the
fact that she was in love with him? Was he in love with her? All these thoughts on top of what
had just happened made her want to scream. She looked over at Mulder and saw that at the same
time he was looking at her.

"Mulder, about what Padgett said yesterday...."
"Scully you don't have to explain anything," he said thinking although it might be nice, "He was a
lunatic, a killer."
"But Mulder..." She fell silent, debating about how to proceed, should she even proceed in her
current emotional condition? But than she thought, I just almost died, I more than anyone right
now should realize the importance of living life. What if I had died and never told him how I feel?
Mulder stayed silent as well, leaving it up to her to continue her sentence.
"He was right. I am in love with someone." Mulder wanted to throw up. Is this where she was
gonna say that she had been seeing someone but didn't want to tell him in case it'd hurt his
feelings?
"Is he a nice guy?" Scully started to laugh, despite her tears, or maybe through them, it was hard
to tell at this point. So many emotions going through her all at once,
"Mulder, " She said touching his face, "I love you. Nobody else but you." She kissed him, and
this time there was no damn bee to get in their way. He kissed her back, and they laid back onto
the couch, their kissing growing even more passionate my the minute
"Scully?" He managed to say in between kisses.
"Yeah?"
"I love you too." And he kissed her again.

They continued like this for a good while, also experimenting with the use of their firsts name,
both of which had almost never been used by the other. In their new happiness Scully forgot her
sorrow over what had happened. Instead she tried to focus on the newness of Mulder's love, of
his arms and mouth on her.

Padgett had been wrong, she wasn't lonely. Even though she and Mulder had never admitted
their love to each other, it had still been there, it had been there for a long time. They had been
together for a long time in a way, always there when the other needed them. It was just that it
had taken them a while to realize the strength of their feelings.

Mulder stood up, holding Scully's hand while he stood up. She knew what he was thinking,
because she was thinking it as well. She got up too, and they walked over to his terribly
decorated bedroom. As they walked in she started to laugh.

"Um Fox?"
"Yeah Dana?"
"How about we go to my place instead."
"I think that that is the best idea I've ever heard." He replied.

When they got to her apartment, they didn't turn on the lights, she lead him to her bedroom.
They lay down on her bed. They picked up from where they left off, and than cared it on even
farther, to a place they had both only dreamed of going. They made love that night, and Scully
forgot all about Phillip Padgett and all the pain his coming into her life had caused. He had been
wrong in every single thing he had said about her. Only Mulder could know her heart. There was
no way that a stranger could know her as well as Phillip Padgett had claimed to. Only a man who
truly loved her as much as Mulder did, and who she loved that, could know that much about her.

The next morning they woke up. Mulder looked at Scully and thanked god he had heard her
gunshots and gotten there in time. He hadn't lost her, she was hear in his arms, and she loved
him. He thought it ironic that she had almost gotten her heart ripped out, because that's what she
had given to him last night, and what he had given to her.

They talked for hours that morning, and they decided that if The Powers That be were going to
do it, they were willing to lose the X-Files in order to keep each other. They called Skinner and
he suggested that he could create an autopsy unit for Scully that would not "officially" be
involved with the X-Files, but she would be assisting him at every turn with X-File cases. This
was they could work together on the X-Files without being official partners.

Life could be great when you took some chances. And when you had the strength to finish
what was unfinished. Scully kissed Mulder once again as he left to go back to his place. he
planned to move out because the apartment reminded him too much of the two times he had
almost lost Scully. He try to move closer to her, but if that didn't work they just do a lot of
driving.
