Everyone you recognize is from X-files, Chris Carter, and 1013 Productions.Detective Tim Bayliss who appears in name only ,played so wonderfully by Kyle Secor is from Homicide and everyone who does that show.If you get the joke about him I would love to hear from anyone who was at surprised about his character as I was. It had taken Fox Mulder a little while to figure it out, but once he had he wondered how he could have missed it. What his partner needed now was a boyfriend. Scully had been moody and sad lately and Mulder realized that if she had someone she would truly be happy. It also helped that he himself had just started a relationship with someone and he thought that if he could find someone so great; his partner could too. "Scully,"he asked her later that day. "are you seeing anyone right now?" If she was at all surprised by his change of subject, she didn't react."No, Mulder, I'm not. Why?" "Just curious."he said. He was going to have to play matchmaker. He loved her with all his heart and if there was any way to make her feel better, he was going to do it. It would probably have to be someone from work, because he knew very little of her friends. He didn't even know what kind of guy she liked. He saw an image of boring old Jack Willis and he saw an image of Ed Jerse who took her out to get a tattoo and then almost killed her. He would have to find someone who was somewhere in between. Fox Mulder had a very busy day that day and it had very little to do with the case they were supposedly working on. He was playing matchmaker. Or trying to anyway. He had very high standards and most guys he met working in the bureau were just not cutting it. By the end of the day he had it limited to three possibilities. These three were all agents that Mulder had worked with, men who were possibly good enough for her. Agent Scott Grey, Agent Kyle McLaine, and Agent Ray Sanchez. Mulder had narrowed it down to these three, now all he would do was have to hunt them down. "Agent Grey."Mulder called. The tall man smiled."Mulder. What brings you up from the basement?" Mulder briefly explained his mission. Scott Grey laughed. "What?" "I'm flattered that you thought of me and in any other situation I would probably jump at the chance to go out with Dana Scully." "But..." Scott Grey held out his hand. On his ring finger was a simple gold band. "Michelle and I eloped last weekend." "Oh."Mulder said disappointed. "Sorry, Mulder." Agent Kyle McLaine was a tall, outdoorsy type who actually had a good brain in his head. He and Scully would be a good match Mulder thought. After finding him, Mulder bgan his speech with, "You aren't still dating what's her name from records are you?" Kyle frowned."No, Lydia and I broke up awhile ago." Mulder continued with his plan. "Now nothing against your partner, Mulder, who I like and respect completely, but she really isn't my type." "Who is your type?" "Why? Are you planning on playing matchmaker for me next?" "I could." Kyle closed the door and lowered his voice. "This stays between the two of us. Don't even tell your partner." "I promise." "Do you know Agent Peters?" Mulder couldn't help but open his mouth."Bob Peters?" Kyle looked down. After assuring Kyle that he wouldn't say anything to anybody, he left the room shaking his head. One minute this guy was dating Lydia, the next he had a thing for Bob Peters. This guy had pulled a complete Bayliss on him. Oh well. One more to go. The last man, Ray Sanchez, was sitting at his desk when Mulder saw him. After a few minutes of chit chat, Mulder explained what he was there for. Ray smiled."Thanks for asking, Mulder, but..." Oh no. "What?" "I'm pretty shy. I mean she's so smart and pretty..." Bingo. "Meet her at Diego's restaurant tomorrow for lunch at one.Offer to treat her to lunch but don't tell her that I sent you.And have fun." Ray nodded."I'll be there." Or so he thought. He woke up with a temperature of 103 degrees and ached all over. A bad case of the flu. He would be lucky if he would be able to make it to the bathroom in time, much less the resturant. It was close to one. Scully was still looking at some files when Mulder stopped her. "Time for lunch." "Take out?"she asked him. "I've got a craving for some Mexican food. How about Diego's?" "That's fine. Who's going? You or me?" "You." 'Fine."she said."I'll be back." "Take your time." Almost after she left the phone rang."Mulder." He heard a hoarse voice say."It's Ray Sanchez. I've got the flu bad. Can't make it. Tell her I am sorry." It was thirty minutes later and she still wasn't back. He hoped that nothing had happened to her. He decided to drive over. He opened the door and saw immediately how stupid it was for him to come. it was so busy. He finally saw Scully waiting in line to get food. She wasn't even close to the front. He was just about to go up to her when someone beat him to it. From where he was standing he had a perfect view of their boss going to talk to her. Mulder frowned thinking that they still hadn't turned in their report yet and hoped she wasn't getting reprimanded. But it became clear to him that they weren't talking about work because for the first time in his life he heard his boss laugh. It wasn't as scary as Mulder once joked to Scully. Skinner actually had a nice laugh and then she laughed with him. Then something happened that Mulder never thought he would see. His boss offered whatever he was eating to his partner. They took alternating bites of the burrito wrap thing that Diego's was famous for. The line barely moved an inch. The food was gone but still they stayed in line together. His partner said something to Skinner that made him jump a little. Mulder couldn't help but snicker quietly. She said something else and leaned over and kissed his cheek. And from the wonderful spot he had he could see them kiss. Mulder quietly exited the restaurant. Well he personally would never put those two together, but now it didn't seem like such an extreme possibility. He smiled as he walked back to the car. Well in a way his plan had worked, just not the way he had expected. the end
