Well, newbie de-lurking... and I have been having such fun lurking too :)
I finally decided to post this because I'm working on something else, and
it was the *first* thing I ever wrote about Mulder and Scully, so please
don't toast me. This is set in Irresistable, right after `the hug` and
before Mulder does his fantastic finish up to the ep.
Please let me know what you think of this, even (*especially*) if you
hate it.

The X-Files and Mulder and Scully and Pfaster are used without

(well, what little original stuff in there is anyway).

Untitled, and written by Laurel Bresaz.

Night: black coiling restless in her hair. Air's like ice, and
the breathless feathering of speech hangs about like heavy tinsel.
Outside, she's moving through a world of silence; thick liquid silences
that flow and swallow reason. She's standing, waiting, almost empty in
front of-
Mulder twitched the blanket tighter around her shoulders, worried
again my her cool blank eyes. She turned and looked up at him, still so
pale with her eyes like huge pieces of sky in her face. "I'm fine,
Mulder," she insisted with the weakest of smiles. "Really; I'm alright now."
	*I'm afraid...*
Ignoring the other law enforcement officers swarming around the
house, he stepped closer and cupped a hand under her chin, smoothing his
thumb across her cheek.
*I'm so terribly afraid that I'll lose you...*
"I thought I'd lost you," he said quietly. "I couldn't face
that again."
Scully shuddered; old terror warring with new and disgust in her
soul to shake her. Mulder pulled her closer, gently running a hand over
her hair as she leaned into him, eyes closing over the tears she refused
to loose.
*I can see the same fear in your eyes, the way you watch me
sometimes.*
"I'll always be with you," she mumbled into his coat collar. She
looked up at him and gave him a small smile. "Who else is going to cut
your theories up like so much coloured paper?"
His half-smile died, arms stiffening against her, and like ice
against her skin she knew what he was seeing.
Donnie [knife: fragmenting steel, edges against her ankle]
Pfaster being led towards [hands swarming, crawling, touching hers] a car
[face shaping, changing; the cold empty eyes of an angel].
Mulder's eyes were very bright as he watched. Dana shuddered
again, drawing herself up as she turned.Donnie looked through her as he
was pushed into the car; pale, tragic eyes clear and empty.
	"Mulder" **hurt* him* "let's go."
He looked down at her, distant eyes coming back to her. "The
motel," he said uncertainly after a moment. Scully nodded.
	"Let's go," she repeated.
The car carrying Pfaster pulled away, growling past them. She
could see only blackness in the backseat; dazzled by the car's
headlights. Confirmed, her fears eased as she saw the true nature of the
devil within. Tears tracked her cheeks. They were less than her sobs from
before, but the sensation was pure and clean.
Dana was almost smiling as she looked back at Mulder. He came up
behind her, putting an arm around her for a second as he smiled at her.
