Category: MSR Summary: Scully struggles with her decision of convincing Mulder to leave. Disclaimer: All things X belong to CC and 1013 productions. Author's Notes: Ok so I have found a new way to write short fic! ok so maybe not a new way. I have been watching a lot of X-Files videos lately and I've noticed as I am watching them that words often come to my head. And so this little peice was born, inspired by Lyle's amazing X-Files video "Scully" set to the breathtaking music of Hans Zimmer, from Pearl Harbor. So I hope that the folks reading from Ephemeral and Gossamer like it, God knows i never would have thought "A Baby's Love" would have done so well, so we'll see. And to Lyle if you read this, write me and let me know some of your video recomendations because yours are truly incredible! Here goes.... "Waiting to Hear his Footsteps Behind" She opens the door and steps out into the hall, her heels clicking against the familiar tile. Many times she has walked down this hall with her partner. Today, she walks it alone. She bites her lip refusing to let it all go. The phone calls, the hospital visits, writing in journals and holding weeping mothers. She tells herself that she has done the right thing, she must believe that she has done the right thing. Tears are her only comfort now as she moves through the day without him. Jumping at every sound of the phone, wishing so badly to hear him speak her name. He will be back, she tells herself. In time, he will be back. As she walks on down the hall she suddenly feels it. That familiar shudder in her spine. The same shudder she felt the first time she arrived at Quantico so long ago. She smiles to herself as the pride surges within her. Here she can fight where others cannot. Here she is a hero, and as she stands in front of a room full of new Pathology students she realizes for the first time, that she can show them a future of immense possibility. She will tell them the tales she whispers to her newborn son each night. Each detail, each discovery, each step along the way to the truth so that they too can believe. She knows that Mulder will return, but until then she will continue to walk down that hall, heels echoing across the familiar tile, waiting to hear his footsteps behind.
